It is quite odd since I never owned a Nexus S or really any Samsung phone for that matter. Has anyone else received an e-mail like this?
I got the same email couple of weeks back when the first gb leak was out

No big deal, I think the build property was just changed. Many people including myself got the same email.
Okay, thanks guys. I Just wanted to make sure it wasn't some odd stupid thing I did. Thanks for the help!
Yeah, I'm pretty sure this is just because of changes to the build.prop

No, this isn't the same as every other thread asking about Google Voice support for Honeycomb tablets. This is more of an update on the matter. Today, Google Voice was updated and I side-loaded the Market version onto my tablet. I haven't updated the version on my tablet in a while, so maybe this isn't anything too too new. Instead of being the normal Phone UI, but bigger, now, it seems that Google has implemented a Honeycomb specific UI. I've attached a couple of screenshots of what the new Market Version of Google Voice looks like on my Transformer.
It's starting to look pretty sexy.
This next part, take with a grain of salt. Earlier, while I was updating Google Voice from the Market on my phone, I swear the "What's New" section mentioned a bunch of new features that aren't listed there now when I go back. Specifically, the features that were listed and are now removed were related to MMS, and were marked as "NEW". I'm assuming that these features will be added soon in an upcoming release.
I've noticed this as well. Have not seen anything with mms yet but that would be nice.

Yea, I actually tried MMS'ing myself just to see if maybe it was released, but they didn't want to publicize it yet, and it didn't come through. So, I'm just hoping it'll come soon in an upcoming release. That, or I was imagining the whole thing.
They also seem to have finally enabled retrieving texts / voice mails via background data as well, so there should be a lot less of a lag between the time a text / voice mail comes in and the time you know about it on your tablet. And, there's a new Honeycomb-specific Google Voice widget
can you upload the apk for your GV on HC so I can load it to my XOOM?
The widget is nice too. It's just like the Gmail widget.
Here's a link to the app for anyone who wants to try it.

The download won't install, I think this may be the DL for phones which are NOT compatible with Honeycomb although there are rumors of Honeycomb support. I tried the DL from my EVO - it appears to be the same package and posts the alert after attempting to install it.
I just thught I'd share the results I got when I tried the attachment and the mobile apk. Of course I APOLOGIZE IN ADVANCE if I have erroneous information!

I had to uninstall my previous version before I could install the new version.
For all of you saying the download isn't working, all you have to do is install it on your android phone, pull it, and push it to your tablet and install it there. There hasn't been any "tinkering" or "hacking" done to this apk, it's simply the Google Voice Market Version. It's the same apk for phones as it is for tablets
If you're having trouble, and you already had Google Voice installed, try uninstalling your previous version. I was using one of the old "hacked" versions and needed to uninstall it before it let me install the newer Market Version

I haven't installed this on the TF, but looking at the permissions list on the phone it can "edit SMS or MMS, read SMS or MMS, receive SMS." Was all that about MMS in there before? Never really looked. Still waiting for "receive MMS," heh ...

hey guys although i havent find nothing online that said so but a seen a few people talking about it in threats and even a tmobile sales men told me that there suppost to be a another ota for the g2x. some people thinks its gonna be 2.3.4 and have the LG Camera in it?
im just wanted to pass this along
and i will appreciate no hateful comments against LG/Tmobile.
we have this phone and we just go from there
Well, we're getting ICS either way thanks to Cyanogen... But it would be nice if LG and T-Mobile still showed some love for our phones!
I kind of doubt we will see another OTA update anytime soon but if we do great.
T mobile is all about the Sensation and Galaxy S 2, and LG has had enough if this fiasco of a phone. Cyanogen is the only hope of this ever getting another update, of any flavor.

it was 2.3.4 and their ota its 2.3.3 i talked to my friend today to see if he heard anything of another ota for the g2x. he said no he hasnt heard anything and pretty much they have forgotten or given up with the g2x.
my opinion on this is if this phone isnt going to be that much of a deal to companies. well i thing NVIDIA should release their drivers to the devs!!!

maybe i should google that too.
The guy makes good points and is upset he threw his money away you have to add to that by being a jerk?
If the "OTA" is going to be 2.3.4, it's going to be outdated. We've been on 2.3.5<-- for almost 2 months now. (Well, with CM7, EB, Faux123, MIUI, etc.)
well that would be nice to see 2.3.4 at least.. maybe they can make the damn 4g icon and signal bars green like gingerbread is suppose to be. then give us the lg cam back then hopefully give us gtalk with video chat.. since skype hates tegra 2's and wont support are phones.. i shouldnt have to root my phone to get things that should just work with a stock rom.

Correct, it's just with google on the back of the phone like the G2. Only Google phones made are the nexus line.
Hell will freeze over before this phone gets another official update. If you wont root and update it yourself but are savvy enough to use xda you have no one to blame but yourself.

The difference is that the devices in the Google Nexus line have their roms developed by Google engineers. Other devices must rely on the respective manufacturer to update them. On the Nexus line Google also pushes out the OTA themselves and never takes them down like T-Mobile did for the G2X. That was lame. Why not keep the OTA on your servers forever like Google does. Plus Google lets anyone get the OTA on any carrier. TMO limited it to people connected to their network (not even MVNOs) only. Since Google does their testing of new versions of Android on their own Nexus line, new roms get pushed out pretty darn fast. Soon, alas, they are going to declare the venerable Nexus One end of life (EOL) and stop providing roms for it. It might get ICS but we'll have to wait and see.
But the G2X is a great phone and the differences between 2.3.3 and 2.3.4 and 2.3.6 are so minimal there is nothing really to be upset about. No O2X worldwide has even gotten any official versions of GB yet, so you can be thankful, for once, that the US is a litigious society and the class action forced LG to release GB before they planned to. But now that they did, any future versions are questionable. LG doesn't have a good record of updating phones very often or very quickly.
i almost got to the point where i was gonna trade my g2x for a nexus s just because its a google phone and i know it will always be updated fast. but its hard to down grade from the g2xs nice specs

I'd much rather keep my G2X, even if it was still on 2.2, rather than trade for a Nexus S. Keep your G2X.
After having google wallet working flawlessly on NSCollab Sprint 1.0.51 I decided to try the ICS roms that were available. Everytime I went to set my account back up I would get the message "Error adding Card". So I went back to my backup of NSCollab Sprint 1.0.51 where it originally worked. So when I went to wallet it gave me a message saying that my bank had removed my card and to call this number. The man I talked to at google basically informed me that wallet doesn't support custom roms. It goes by the original stock rom ( even though NSCollab Sprint 1.0.51 wasn't stock) and the google wallet app knows its on something else. Here is the letter I received from google:
Hi Ronald,
Thank you for calling Google Wallet. You called us regarding Your Google
Pre-Paid Card not showing your balance.

Maybe this is old news to some but I didn't know this. So it looks like google wallet is pretty much useless unless you stay with the same rom? It seems to me though I have seen people post that they signed back in to there original accounts fine after flashing and had there balance still there. Anyone have any idea of a way around this and have gotten there wallet working after flashing from one rom to another?

I've been using Wallet on Bugless Beast GPA19 for some time now without issue, but from the reports I have read from other users, it can be very finicky. It seems that it has to be installed or baked into a ROM with clean data (at least to start). Some folks will get the Market updates for Wallet and others won't. If your device won't update from the Market and you try to manually update to the latest version of Wallet, it can cause Wallet to stop functioning. I actually had this happen to me and I needed to restore a Nandroid to get it working again.

This is what you walk into with open source software, with the nexus line of phones, you get updates first not right away.
Its the cost of having an open platform. Its unfortunate, I like being on the cutting edge but its all about preferences. I like flashing, tinkering and messing up. This platform allows it, the other popular platform is more streamlined and closed. You get updates for all the phones once but in my opinion its lacking the tinkering factor. Also, once you go samoled, you never go back.

You should have no issue with unlocking n rooting a nexus..
- Only setback would have to be, the device not being found w/ your pc. aka manually installing the samsung driver properly.
I just redid my sdk after a fresh winOS. n i always spend the most time on just this part...
Rooting the NexusLineup is are one of the simplest bootloaders to unlock.
If i'm not mistaken the whole nexus line up was built for the developing purpose n experience;...
N to answer your ICS-OTA Release for the crespo4g no matter what people tell you.
google had a setback w/ the ns4g n only this device. Cause of 'wiimax' connection issues.
I personally think google is looking for outside help rather then trying to figure it out.
But until you see the official tweet from the official nexus/google/android twitter accounts, or your unrooted device receives the ota. Then no ics rom will properly work to its full ability for our 4Gmachines!
To set record straight there was the orginal rollout for the NS4G.
People reported the issues.
Thats why they didnt continue.
This is why i only stick w/ apple.

I'm floating in the same boat brooo
So as much as I love android there is one thing that I kinda of envy when it comes to blackberrys and Iphones and and that would be bbm/imessages. Now im well aware there are apps out there like gtalk or chaton which acts like imessages but I personally would like to see this built into the messaging app itself. I am no developer or anything but it seems that imessages works on the device when it is linked towards the email used for the app store so would it not be easy for google to implement this into their os? I mean on the start up of each android device it does ask you for your gmail password so I was just thinking that this just may be a really nice feature to come out with key lime pie or something. Does anyone else feel this way?
Is this any different from Google Talk? Instant Messaging tied to the Gmail account, rather than the phone number. It's just not as immensely popular.

Well thats the thing. GTalk is perfect but for example all of my friends who own android products havent even heard of it. Im just thinking if google linked GTalk to a phone number then it could be good.

I have to admit that I do miss bbm from when I used blackberry's. But besides that mild feeling of exclusivity I don't really think its much different thn just texting

Ya i hear ya. I guess the only reason I feel something like Imessages would be helpful is because if we are in places with almost no service but there is wifi it would be pretty amazing. Then again i would be scared for samsung or google to implement this because the last thing we need is another apple lawsuit haha
