[Q] Help please - Selected Odin EFS Clear - Verizon Droid Charge

This is a warning to others and a call for help in the unlikely event that someone has a fix. I forgot what the Phone EFS Clear checkbox did in Odin. In trying to fix another issue, I selected the box. I now get a Sim card initialization failed error after boot.
So - don't check the EFS clear checkbox, backup your EFS folder (I think you can do this with root explorer). Does anyone know how to restore the EFS data if you cleared it with Odin?
Thanks.

I believe you fried your sim card

Did this work? I have the same issue, and I have been unable to find another solution, or even a EFS file on my own.
Any other solutions are welcome as well. Thanks for reading.

Wouldn't you restore that info if you replace your sim and odin back to stock ee4 or is it something more hardware oriented?

I'm contacting Verizon today, the replacement SIM they have sent me is showing as not recognized or registered. I did Odin back to stock before I put the new card in. I'll do it again when i get home from work, just in case.
Phone is acting like it doesnt know what network to connect to.
Under Phone status it says Searching for service.
Mobile Network Type: UNKNOWN
Update: After talking with Verizon Techs the sim card seems fine, however, my phone is unable to contact their tower to update information on the Sim.

AFAIK, you can't recover from EFS clear. Could be wrong, but I've never seen anyone get back to a fully working device after selecting it.

Long story short, I bought a bricked charge, got it unbricked and noticed it has the IMEI but no MEID(all zeros) in the settings menu. The phone is clear on VZW but I am stuck. I am guessing when it was bricked (or unbricked by who I used to fix it) my MEID was wiped cuz the unbricker gave me the phone with a custom ROM.
I was wondering if someones charge with a good efs restore could be edited with a hex editor or something to match for example my valid IMEI less the extra digit to fix this?

Just to confirm, if you read my previous/above post I tried to activate my charge via my vzw accout online. I entered my MEID number and vzw prompted me to swap my sim(had an active thunderbolt) which I did. I saw that I had no signal with the vzw network so I popped my sim back in the T-bolt. To date when I log into my vzw account it shows I am using a charge.
My charge works on wifi fine

I took a look at my efs and it is basically a FAT16(RFS) filesystem with a few files and directories. There are 2 files, one of which has the Bluetooth MAC and the other that has what appears to be a MAC for something. On mine there is also a directory structure that contains the DRM stuff for DIVX. If there is anything in there that relates to the MEID, it would probably be the /efs/imei/.nvmac.info file that has what appears to be a MAC.
That being said, it looks like there is no linear correlation between the value in the .nvmac.info file and the MEID or IMEI (or even the serial number portion for that matter) There is a possibility that there is some sort of hash function being run on it to derive the MEID.

Hi, thanks for the reply. What you find looks close to my charge. Here is my last message to the unbricker. He asked me a question about the efs folder/files content in my charge for a possible restore. I replied with my findings and never heard from him again, this was 2 weeks ago.
Question: What files are in it? Do you see a .bin file or a .Bak file?
Answer: The efs folder has a couple sub folders \imei and \.files and one file named .nv_state
The sub folder \ .files has 3 more sub folders that are empty
The sub folder \ imei has the files .nvmac.info & bt.txt
I don't see any bin files.

Yeah not sure, but I can tell you that that's how I fixed it. 4g/Sim card might be different but I know GoS did the same thing. You can prob find his panick thread in the fascinate Q and A section. GizmoDroid explained what it does and how to fix. Again, 4g/Sim card might be different story. Good luck...

Uh... I'm going to copy and paste this here since it's really the only answer you are going to get, and to help anyone who might come along later:
If your MEID number is still valid in Settings -> About Phone -> Status -> MEID, then you are probably ok.
You may be able to *228, option 1. If that doesn't do it, try *22899.
If that doesn't work, activate an old phone on your account, then after a few minutes, reactivate your Samsung Fascinate. This will hopefully restore any of the EFS data that wasn't getting pushed by the *228 activation.
If your MEID in the Settings menu doesn't match the one printed on your phone under the battery, then the EFS data was corrupted and unable to rebuild after you cleared it. The only realistic option at that point is having it sent to Samsung.

possible counterfeit hox / corrupt imei ??

Ok so I purchased a used hox on craigslist the other day. When I first put my sim card in after purchase I was unable to get a data connection using the pta apn. I had network connection and was able to make/receive calls and texts, but had no data connection. I was getting the "misconfigured apn" error in network settings. After some googling I found that I need to switch my plan to an att LTE plan (I am in a covered area). I am not the account holder, and it would be a day or two until I could get in contact with the account holder, so I just threw in the wap.cingular or phone apn and was able to get an hspa connection fine. So I rooted the phone and unlocked the bootloader (using htc dev) without a problem, flashed a few custom roms, everything is working 100%. Except for last night when I finally decided to switch my plan over with AT&T and try to connect to LTE. After about an hour on the phone with technical support, they concluded that I don't have an AT&T phone, which I am certain I do.
I am guessing that the only way they could tell that I didn't have an AT&T phone was from the IMEI which they asked for at the beginning of the call. So I checked the IMEI on the box against the IMEI on the phone and they are different. The SNs match, but the IMEIs are different. I checked out the phone IMEI online and it came back as invalid. (For the record I also checked the box IMEI against the lost and stolen phone database and it was not found)
So, basically, I am wondering if this issue can be caused by something that I did (ie rooting, bootloader unlock, rom flashing, etc) or if I was somehow sold a tampered device or if this is something to be concerned about. Its not a very big deal if its something I did, I understand the risks associated with rooting/unlocking/flashing etc.

what method did you use to unlock the bootloader? If you used the one without HTCDev found here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1734558 it changed the IMEI number. You can put it back though.

I actually used the method outlined here, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1671396, which is probably a similar method under the hood I guess. How would I go about returning the IMEI to stock? Is it as simple as opening mmcblk0p4 in a hex editor and changing the 11111111 back to CWS__001?

Nope.
the method you used doesn't TOUCH IMEI. IMEI and CID are two different things.
did you happen to notice when you got the phone if the bootloader said locked? or was it re-locked?
I suspect if it's the latter then whoever had the phone before you did used the "without htc dev" method to unlock and didn't copy back the unaltered partition when they were done.
There are ways to rewrite the correct IMEI to the phone. I don't know how, and discussion of it is forbidden here. Maybe someone who can help you will send you a PM.

if it said LOCKED then IMEI got corrupted by some other means. Sorry I can't be of more help. I do have a suggestion though.
Find one of those Cell phone stores that advertises flashing phones to some other carrier. Maybe THEY have the means to fix your IMEI.

I'm just glad it was something that I screwed up as opposed to my buying a tampered/stolen device. Mobile Network Not Available

has anyone had this issue where it says "Mobile Network Not Available". I was running CleanRom 4.5 and installed the 4.5 keyboard and clock and all of a sudden I lost my network connection. what is weird is the 4G works fine. I just can't receive or make calls/text messages. Does anyone have any idea what may be the problem? I've returned my phone to stock, cause I'm thinking I'm going to have to take it back to Verizon. Just wondering if maybe anyone knew a fix for this.

Yeah, i dont know what caused it to happen. I didn't even really notice it wasn't working, cause I never lost data. i've always had 4G signal. i just can't make phone calls or send texts. at one point it did say mobile network not available, but now it just doesn't make calls at all. the screen looks like its making the call, but you do not hear any dial tone or anything. For sure it was working yesterday because i was on a four hour call last night. Just stopped out of nowhere today.
I had the same issue the other day. Did you backup your IMEI/MEID info? Check and see if they are still there in about phone, also check your ERI and if your network is listed.

I just got back from the Verizon store after spending 2 hours there. It did seem like it was an IMEI issue. They mentioned my phone having a different number than what was on the phone itself and they could find no way to correct it. The verizon tech support that they called were insisting that it was a network issue and not a phone issue, so they opened a trouble ticket to try and resolve that. they said 24-72 hours to get it resolved. luckily, the store clerks and managers thought support was full of it, so they decided to overnight me a replacement phone anyways just in case, even though they were told not to. so hopefully the new phone fixes the issue. I'm just glad that they helped me out because I didn't buy warranty or anything on the phone so they probably could have flat out denied me. Fingers crossed that all is good in a couple of days
I did back up my IMEI the first time I rooted the phone, but since they're helping me out, I'm just going to wait for the new phone and hope that that fixes it.

Take out your battery and look for the IMEI number that is listed underneath it. Write it down. Then boot your phone back up and go to settings, about phone, status, and make sure that the number your wrote down matches the IMEI number on the phone. If it doesn't, then you'll need to restore your IMEI and probably repair your ERI.
Read this thread. It explains how to repair them both:

I had this exact same problem yesterday. I noticed it occurred when I left a 4G area. I couldn't connect to the network anymore and it prompted me to switch to global mode. My IMEI number on the back of my phone matched the number in the status too.
The way I fixed it was by doing an nvrestore in terminal emulator. You need to have a backup in place in order to do this. I believe you can find more about it in the IMEI thread in android development. It should be the first step and they'll probably be able to help you more there. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1852255
Also, I'm running Clean Rom 4.5, stock kernel, and the vrlg7 radio.

If your IMEI is correct, and your ERI is set to "5", it may be a problem on Verizon's end. Have you tried contacting them about the problem? It could also indicate a problem with your SIM card, and you may need to get a replacement from Verizon.
IMEI is correct
ERI is 5
SIM Card is brand new, just had to replace the phone and used the new one that came with it.
Should I return the phone to stock before taking it to Verizon for support?

Yes, I would return it to stock and then check to confirm that the issue is still there (and not linked to your ROM, themes, etc.).
Then bring it back in to Verizon.

4g works... That's all. Help getting calls and texts please.

My phone was on clean rom 5.0, Loved it. Everything worked great for 2 months. 3 days ago I flashed CM10. Worked alright. Then flashed MIUI (pre-most recent update). Also worked fine except for some screen flickering. Decided to go back to stock. Did a nandroid restore and when it was finished I had no data or bars period. Restarted the phone to no avail. Called Verizon. They assumed my simm card was fried. Then I went and got a new simm card. They tried to activate it to no avail. After changing my PRL from 00000 to 15154 they were able to get 4g on my phone. It's a little slow but it works. Still no calls and text.
My phone number is 0000004548. Any ideas on fixing this?

This is my next option. Will it help? Come on xda, I have faith you can save me! Thanks all!
Still no luck
I completed the guide in the first post. No dice. I got everything sorted out, My phone number is now correct and all but... I cannot get signal still and I cannot boot into recovery. Weird. Any advice would be great! I'm sure others are in my spot.
Is your imei intact? I also had this problem prior to flashing miui. What I did was go back to completely stock, there is a guide somewhere here, make sure you backup all your data. Once you've boot up to stock, you have to dial the re provision code which is *2767*3855# , it will wipe all your data I believe, then reboot it should work then. After that just reroot unlock flash roms. I hope it works for you. If you've lost your imei you have to do something else which a guide is written on here, but I'm pretty sure you haven't lost your imei.
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda premium
Yes, first thing to do is to check if your IMEI is intact. Also check your ERI (it should be set to 5).
Just a heads up, the re-provision code @Watoy mentioned only works on early build stock ICS. You can use the code in Root66, so my advice is to Odin back to Root66, which is available for download from this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1762204
If your IMEI and/or ERI is not intact, the following tool and guide will bring you back to life. You will also need to be on stock ICS for this, and I again recommend Root66 because many users need to perform the re-provision code after performing all of the steps in this guide to complete the process:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1867442
I'm attempting everything you two mentioned right now. I'll let you know how it turned out. I have already done each of these things but this time I'll follow the order (if that makes sense...)
Network - Unknown
Signal - -95 dBm 2 asu
Mobile net type - 1xRTT:6
in service
roaming
disconnected
phone # - 0000004548
Min 0000004548
PRL - 1
ERI - 5
IMEI - 990002068950862
IMEISV - 00
Definitely boot loops for days after flashing stock.vzw_root66.tar Any other ideas?
Alright. Flashed stock.vzw_root66.tar and it bootlooped. I pulled the battery after ten minutes and went into recovery and f/d reset. Network unknown. Signal strength and network type is the same. now service state says in service. Mobile network state still disconnected. PRL changed to 15173. phone number is correct. MIN is 3194421067. ERI is still 5. MEID now reads DEC: 256691456608999046 HEX: 0x99000206895086. IP address is now unavailable.
Can you read all that?
Okay I got the reprovision number to work. Going through that now.
I FIXED IT, Thanks to ya'll.
Now use the dialer code listed earlier

Flashed stock.vzw_root66.tar. Bootlooped, pulled battery, factory /data reset in recovery.
Then dialed the *2767*blah blah. And tada. Everything works.
Post links so I can buy ya'll beers!
Dead serious. I just dropped it 2 feet onto carpet and there is a small crack above the menu key. Phone is a goner. Black screen and all. I still claim this endeavor as worth it, hopefully it helps others out. Off to buy a $40 droid x on craigslist. ugh

That sucks all that work to break it. I think it's like 170 for a new screen from Samsung installed.

Really? That's not too bad of a price. I thought the screens were going for close to that on ebay, and that's without installation obviously.

imei number is correct from the back of my phone
I am thinking I need to flash back to stock in order to make that phone call to activate my phone but i want to do this as a last resort. Any help will be greatly appreciated. I hope I may have missed something in the hidden settings when i used *#22745927 and **22745927. Can someone tell me what my settings should be and thank you again.

A quick look at the thread you linked to, it looks like you need to be back on an ICS ROM (at least for TW) to use the factory reset/reprovision(?) code, after repairing the IMEI.
The key to make it all work together seems to be this order: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=33609227&postcount=160

You didn't miss anything, you just need to do that re-provision code. Flash back to this, do the re-provision, and you will be back to normal. No other way about it unfortunately.

This just saved me! Thanks a ton, sorry about your phone though. Just fixing the IMEI and ERI didn't work for me, I had to reset with the code
Same Issues
I suffered from no sms and no calls, reflashed root_66 tar from odin, then reprovisioned with *2767*3855# and i got sms and calls back but was stuck on roaming with it always trying to get me to install dual clocks, i figured it was a sim card issue as my imei was proper and everything was as stock, i took it to local Verizon, they installed new SIM for free, but it did not fix the issue. With a few kind words and pointing out the extras i spent on accesories, i ended up getting into the Note II. Keep In Mind i was still in my 30 day worry free, but for the SIM card it didnt matter, he did not look up that info till he told me he was going to replace my device if the SIM didnt take. I STRONGLY advise to approach them with kindness, i also informed them it happened when i kept toggling connection when transfering media thru the usb cable, i figured the heat and constant connect/disconnect fried the sim, they never asked if i tried to download any off market apps or anything along the MOD lines. Hope this helps anybody that may need it.. i did follow step 5 of the guide everyone references about rooting jellybean(root, custom recovery, stock), sorry new to forums and havnt figured out the linking yet, but once on the stock file with this name,( COMBINATION_I535VRBLK3_I535VZWBLK3_381038_REV09_user_low_ship.tar)everything read stock except my binary count, but i heard this is only an issue if sending to samsung as verizon reps are unaware of binary counts and odin and stuff related

Nexus 5 Emergency Calls Only (EFS Maybe)

Hey Guys,
Iv been undergoing a very strange problem, I flashed manually the 4.4.3 update to my Nexus 5, the phone worked fine for about 2 days after the flash and then random-ally one morning decided to display "Emergency Calls Only', I can scan for mobile networks just fine but it will fail to register on any network, here is some debugging iv been doing:
Select automatic registration, reboot
Switch off, remove sim, insert, boot
Flashed all modems available
Tried registering on different nework modes (3G, LTE, 2G)
Factory restore to 4.4.2
Corrupted EFS rulled out.
The same sim works just fine in other devices and I have ensured that the sim card pins are clean and fine. I cannot find a article related to this issue and what I have been reading is that it could be related to a corrupted EFS, what i dont understand is that does the EFS corrupt the IMEI number or is their anyway to confirm it is a corrupted IMEI number ? If so is their anyway to recover the EFS and just inject my IMEI number into the file and flash back ? Would the Nexus 5 PIT file help ? Or in the end would a google RMA device be a better choice ?
The RMA is difficult for me due to the fact that im in a unsopported county so would have to post it back, but i obviously need a phone so need to sort this out.
If you have corrupted efs your imei will be 0.
You can probably try for a rma, or take apart the phone to sell it for parts (everything except the motherboard). And no, you can't put the imei back yourself.

Settings > About phone > Status
Does it show your IMEI?
If it shows a zero or multiple zeroes it might be a corrupt IMEI.

Okey then its not, IMEI is still valid, Phones IMEI is still the same, I have tested the IMEI aswell with my service provider and a paid for service on the net that indicates all is in order still.
Sounds like an issue with the SIM card holder and/or connection of it to your motherboard. I know rma is difficult for you but that's probably your best option.

It would make some sense somewhat as recently after i updated i had dropped the phone from a small height, and that option has been playing on my mind ever since. What i cannot get is that the device still picks up a sim card when its inserted into the phone or will this still happen regardless? Iv practically ruled out everything, im getting a replacement phone tomorrow and Ill them log a call to google to get things moving with a RMA.
Another thread has suggested re-flashing the cache.img from the stock file, will this wipe everything or do you think it would be worth a try ?

It's worth a try to flash the cache. It will not wipe your device or anything.
