Somehow both Light Sinister and AOSP (from faux123) can't solve ogg vorbis tag reading problem (it only happens on this phone). It's good I have the nandroid backup from CWM recovery (I made a backup before flashing) and now I go back to what I was using.
I reported the issue to LG and their developers are aware of that. This is the only issue bothers me. I have no sudden shutdown or reboot with original ROM (I encountered few times even I tested).
The worst of your problems was a tag reading problem that lg knows aboit so you went back to stock? Sometimes I wonder what goes thru people's heads. I can see going back to stock for Bluetooth issues or dropwd calls or signal or battery issues
G2x with CM7 and faux 1.7 kernel. [email protected] 5009 quadrant.
ALL ROM (including original) have same ogg vorbis tag reading problem.
I tried some different custom ROM to see any improvement. I have seldom reboot/shutdown problem, and the backlight bleeding isn't that bad to return.
However, if LG is unable to offer a fix for that, I may sell it and get Samsung Hercules.

All that for a audio file ??? Whoa why not use flac or mp3 @320kbps, I know I know mp3 is very lossy but can you really tell using headphones?

Okay, I have tried 2 different .avi videos and both quit playback after 1 second. There is never any video and you can hear the first second of audio. After finding another video player and playing it using software decoding, it worked but wasnt in snyc with audio.

Thats odd. I can play multiple file types and codecs no problem. Make sure you're on 1.7.15 and maybe try some alternate kernels, glitch from the fascinate forums works amazingly for me.
If you still have issues, try...
1. Battery pull, this fixes some random radio issues and other things. Can't hurt to try.
2. Reflash rom and whatever kernel you use if you use one.
3. Data wipe/factory reset in recovery. You can make backups with titanium and miui to get everything back.
If you still have issues try using cm7, omfgb, some other rom and if it doesn't work there then it's your phone.

I dont think i use a kernel? Care to explain?
A kernel is sorta like the base of the rom in layman's terms. The rom is what you see and interact with and the kernel is like the underlying drivers that make things tick... you are running the standard kernel that comes with the rom. You can check the Fascinate development forum for kernels, I recommend Glitch for the best speed and awesomeness. It'll just give you extra features, speed, and possibly fix your problems.

I have recently rooted my Infuse and installed the most recent CM7 Gingerbread ROM. It was smooth sailing and I have been successfully using for about 1 week. I am now encountering popping and crackling noises only on my Bluetooth headset during phone calls making it unusable. This post had some similar comments - (since I cannot post links Google "Static/popping/clicking sound. - Page 2" I have searched this forum and others without finding a solution. I have tried both a Motorola and Plantronics (Voyager Pro +) with the identical problem. I do not beleive it is the BT headset. Has anyone else experience this. Any suggestions for how to troubleshoot? I tried to revert back to the original Froyo Nandroid backup but I get a "Error while flashing boot image!" error so I cannot test to see if the problem exists with Froyo as well and is just an issue with the phone itself. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
This phone rocks!!
iirc cm7 on the infuse has issues with BT, can't help you further though..
maybe you can try the normal return to stock methods?

And there is your problem.
thank you both for the response. I have returned to stock and will try when I get home tonight to see of the issue is resolved. LinuxBozo, am I to extrapolate from your comment that the version is too bleeding edge for a production phone I should try a different version and or ROM? If I so which would you suggest? I would prefer to be using gingerbread over froyo and I really like the feature in CM7. Matter of fact if was awesome aside from the Bluetooth crackling and issue with not being able to remember previously paired BT devices upon reboot.
Thank you
If you want 100%, everything working as advertised on the box, CM7 is not for you. BT is flaky, and very basic right now, with audio (headsets, a2dp) being the most broken. As for something stable, and Gingerbread, you really cant' go wrong with the latest UCKJ4 leak, as it's basically an early look at what stock gingerbread will be. Otherwise, if you want something not so stock, I would say, look at Serendipity7, Sensation or Dlev.
Great feedback. Thank you!!!
Stock rom doesnt have any issues so it was a CM7 issue.

Hey everyone,
I've been using different roms from XDA for awhile now, first on my HTC Legend and over the last few months on my Infuse, so I'm not really new to this.
Here's my problem:
Whenever I use an AOSP rom (Miui 2.3.2b (Galnet), Miui 4.0, Miui Shock N' Awe, CM7, CM7 Nightlies etc.) I get a weird crackling/static noise when making calls (not when on speaker phone). Every time before I install one of these roms I use Odin and go back to stock, wipe everything properly, fix permissions etc.
I've tried disabling DSP, enabling DSP, uninstalling DSP, I've tried every setting possible, I've also tried Voodoo Sound etc. Nothing seems to work, in call volume doesn't make a difference and I've literally tried every single modem currently available and including the newest one UCLB3. I've spent hours googling and searching for an answer and nothing seems to work. I've tried OC'ing, under clocking, fresh installs etc.
Does anyone have any ideas? I can confirm that sound works fine on Zeus, Aeon, Revolution, stock roms etc but that's not what I want to use (personal preference) so it can't be hardware related, the only thing I can think of is the kernel. Is there an AOSP kernel that will fix this issue or even something I can try? The community v8 one wouldn't work with Miui and I don't think Entropys will either.
Please HELP! I'm desperate! I know there's a few others with the same problem.
I'm thinking hardware problem. There was a thread about this waaaaay back and one guy said he got rid of by running a decent strength magnet along the ear peice. Something about metal shavings or whatever. I never tried it tho and I still encounter the crackles every one in a long while. Just some input.
Try a pizza taco sometime, if you don't know what it is, look it up then
I don't think it can be hardware related, it ONLY happens on those roms, it doesn't happen if I hook up headphones or put it on speaker phone, it also doesn't happen if I play music etc.
IMO it has to be something that comes with those roms or the kernel it uses.
Hi,
Firstly, want to thank the dev for this great rom. I recently switched back from ICS because I couldn't take the lag/wanted a fully functioning operating system.
The main problem I' having with this rom is that when I'm listening to music/audio files they'll stop for no apparent reason. The only thing I can think of is that maybe they're stopping when I go in and out of service. When I either unlock and press play or switch apps and press play they start again with not problems. I've found this to happen in multiple audio player (Poweramp and BeyondPod being the two main ones I use).
Any help would be greatly appreciated as this is incredibly frustrating.
Thanks very much for your hard work.
btw: the reason I didn't post this in the related dev forum is that I don't as yet have enough posts to do so...so no flaming please).
Nobody is gonna flame you for posting a question on the questions forum.. (unless you didn't search first)
I've had this happen to me as well with different ROM's. I don't believe its ROM specific. My problems were related to some of my notification settings. I also switched from the standard player to UberMusic. It's old but does the job well.

Can't be too careful when it comes to flames.
I thought it might be my notification settings but I've tried pretty much every permutation of those. Can't really bring myself to switch from PowerAmp (paid) and BeyondPod(free) is the best podcast player I've found to date...I might try reinstalling the rom, maybe I didn't wait long enough before using it?

Does the problem exist if you were to use Google Music? If it does, then it's most definitely a problem with the ROM. Try a re-install and if that doesn't clear it up, you might want try out a different ROM to see if it's the ROM or not.

Sadly, or happily as I love PowerAmp, it does occur with Google Music too. Never had this problem on eaglseblood gb (which I mainly used before trying a few ICS roms) but switched as their GB rom is no longer maintained. Will try re-flashing. Hopefully that helps.
Thanks for your suggestions.

Yeah, i just recently discovered this issue too, and it kind of bugs me.
Still haven't found a way around this. Tried reflashing the rom which didn't help. Just tried flashing faux's 49b1 to see if that helps. The dalvik cache is being very slowly rebuilt. The newer kernel (the one included in hellfire 2.3) has a MUCH faster loading time (at least upon first load). Will post if this helps with the sound issue.

Well. I'm still having this problem. I've tried multiple kernels, multiple roms and even completely formatted my phone (all partition including boot sector). No luck. Truly aggravating because aside from this issue, I love this rom. Very smooth/fast and stable. Not sure I can live with this audio problem though as it's incredibly frustrating.
If anyone else has encountered this problem and found a solution, please post. Thanks,
I just dl the old music player apk here see if it helps. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jrtstudio.music
Also does it occur both when using headphones and not? I had issue with a set of headphones with a break in the wire, which would make the phone appear as though the headset was unplugged and plugged back in, which stopped playback constantly.
Let me know if this helps any.

Thanks for replying.
I'd wondered if that might be the reason too. I know it gains with different headphones as I've tried four different pairs. I'll have you try it without any and see. I did try disabling the setting for stop playback upon removal of headphones with no success. I'll try without headphones in and see. I'll have to flash the Rom again as I've been trying a few others out.

Sadly, no. I've tried playing music without headphones attached and the same problem occurs. Random stops. I go into whichever application (it happens in everyone single one I've tried) was playing an audio file and it starts up right where it left off when I press play.
It's worse now actually in that it occurs with whatever all roms. So now I'm left wondering if there's a micro fracture in the headphone sensor that only started acting up at the exact time I put Hellfire Phoenix 2.3 on my phone or if, somehow, it corrupted some base setting on the phone that even reformatting it can't get rid of.
Terribly aggravating. Debating taking it in for service but I need to find a Wind factory rom before I can do so. Think I saw one in the forums a few months ago. hopefully the link's still active.

I've reinstalled my phone's stock rom (WIND Mobile).
This seems to have sorted out the issue. I'm going to try reinstalling Hellsfire Phoenix in a few hours if it doesn't happen again (I'm playing music nwo and will continue for a couple hours to make sure).
I'm now wondering if maybe this was some sort of error caused by downgrading from an ICS build (hadn't occured to me previously but that's when I started having this issue and it didn't matter which GB rom I tried after that)? Hopefully this will be the end of these problems and I can enjoy Hellsfire Phoenix as it was great aside from that issue.
I'll post in a couple days if all goes well....or if it doesn't.

That's so odd. I'm curious to see what happens if you go from stock to HFP v2.3.

Well, sad to say that I still had that problem after trying HFP 2.3 again. So I went back to stock. This time it happened on stock too so I have to assume it's a hardware problem. I guess I just lucked out (well, poor luck in this case) that it went for four hours Friday without halting playback.
Better take it in for warranty service while it's still covered.
At least it seems unlikely that any rom/kernel combo was to blame now.
I am thinking about buying one from AT&T. I did a bunch of searching on the web and xda but couldn't find much about problems with this phone. Is this phone really that good, or am I just not searching enough?
Even if they are fixable problems, it is nice to know up front.

Are you planning to stick with stock firmware or root&flash something else?
With stock firmware, as far as I could gather, these are the main issues people had:
Internal SD too small for installing large amout of apps and especially games
For some people there is an echo when using the speakerphone
A whole lot of annoying AT&T bloatware, but that would be with every phone you get from them
But I havn't really ran it(stock) for more than an hour. I flashed CM10 unofficial port by ktempleton almost immidiately(these are nightlies, there is also CM9 Stable port that I havn't tried myself). As far as I know these are the only issues with that ROM:
Occational silent calls(the call connects but no one heares anything on either side)
A bug with the phone display rotation, that comes and goes as nightlies progress
More severe echo issue than stock has been reported
Music playback from external SD could get choppy. Could be due to low-quality microSD card as not all people expirience that(I do). This has also been reported with stock ICS but strangely not with stock GB.
Overall I could say I'm pleased with the phone, only major issue for me is the occational silent call issue that could catch you in an inconvinient situation. It might not exist with CM9 stable, but I have not yet checked myself. You should not have that issue with stock as far as I know.
EDIT: don't know how I forgot to mention this, battery life is not great. Would last you a full day only if you turn off LTE&NFC. otherwise might leave you hanging(obviously this depends on many elements, such as how often and for what you use the device for. You could run it on 2G and probebly use it for two days straight). Coming from Nokia this was somewhat of a shock for me at first but got used to it eventually.
