Speed Test App Locks up - Samsung Infuse 4G

Has anyone else experianced this it has happened to me from day one when i open up speed test app and it says finding closest server the bar that scrolls back and forth jumps around lags stops then it says the closest server is witchita kansas and i live in south florida now sometimes it works flawless finds a server in miami but everytime i run the test it takes 30 to 45 seconds before it even starts it just says testing ping then it comes on ping time is usally around 130 210 ms but most of the time it dosent work at all says network error but if i toggle airplane mode or data on off and try again it works great the first time but any subsequent time requires toggling the data

Sounds like you just have a poor network connection. Depending on what part of Clewiston you live in, there are some pretty significant gaps in AT&T coverage.
How does the speedtest app work for you when you are on wifi?

wifi seems ok the randomness of the speedtest app is crazy i usually have full bars at my house but even showing fukk bars i get the network error and one it throws me that error i have found that i have no data at all i can place calls but cant log on facebook or connect to the market cant send recieve e-mails or sms i have to toggle my data on off and then it goes back to work then if i run speed test it works ok the first time if i run it again right after that it gives me network error and i have to toggle data i dont know if its the app i have been having these random network issues from the time i got the phone but it seems more prevalent with the speed test app i have unninstalled and reinstalled the speed test app but one i lose my data it never comes back without toggling on and off it majorly blows

Absolutley sounds like a data problem in your area. Full bars just indicates a strong radio signal from the tower. There's a lot more that needs to happen to get good data throughput. I suggest giving AT&T tech support a call.
They will be much more helpful than any of us can be on this forum.

I get the same issues...so i tested using speakeasy with the browser and it runs better with a.lily better speeds. No lock ups like speetest ..My speed test will sit so long that that it will say network error..

Maybe it just can't keep up with the blazing speed of the AT&T network? HEHE, sorry I just had to say it... And even I can't keep a straight face while typing that, hahahaha.

Mine has locked up several times on the upload portion of the test. This usually occurs when the data speed is bad, like dial-up bad.

Mobile network keeps turning off?

Sometimes when connected to 4G, I will lose data entirely. When I check wireless settings, the mobile network says turning on and won't do anything. A reboot fixes it but it is annoying.
Anyone else experience this?

yeah me too....actually I have no data at the moment.

It's Verizon working on their network. People keep trying to troubleshoot it as a software problem, it's a network problem.

Same thing was happening to me all morning. I'm glad to see I am not the only one having this issue. As usual, Verizon Tech support said that there was no issues on their end.

Would that show the phone being unable to turn on the mobile network entirely? Seems weird but I guess I will wait a few days.
i had this too alot when running a froyo radio. i went to mr2.5 and haven't had the issue since.
I was about to ask if anyone was having any weirdness with 4G today... I tested my speeds using the speakeasy website and the upload speeds were fine (2.5-3Mbps) but the download speeds were incredibly slow, under 1 Mbps every time I tried. Guess it's issues with verizon testing the network.

4g fine in chicago 22mbps down, 4 mbps up, speedtest browser test.
the problem is the mobile hotspot software. just download the open garden wifi tether on the market
Yeah I'm having the same problem. I went to VZW and they are sending me a replacement phone. I usually run CM7 but that's an extra pain to get data back. Hopefully this problem is resolved soon.

Definitely big red doing work... CSR's aren't informed about that stuff, and yes, our 3g, 4g, and even 1x operate on a new section of the network.... If it persists use the modem settings @ ##778# edit mode, password 000000, turn revA on....

4G Data speeds just dropped big time

My 4G data speeds are usually around 6mb/s in my area but they just dropped to 300kb in my area. I called customer support and confirmed there are no outages in my area nor am I being throttled. I have already pulled my SIM to no fix. Anyone have any other ideas?

Heavy usage straining the network in your area? I have seen some random speed drops in my area, either my phone is connected to a farther tower or the network is getting hit harder at that moment. Thats what I chalked mine up to at least. Speeds returned to normal after a little while.
Its been going on for 5 hours.

What do u mean its normal? I have got 5mb/s in this location (at work) for the past year. Now all of a sudden my upload speeds are completely normal and my download speeds are hitting less than 100 kb/s. I don't see anything normal about that. Not to mention, everything was fine for the first 2 hours in this location.

Ok, it is now 12:30Am where I live and the speeds have been the same for 6 hours. I know this tower hasn't been crowded for 6 hours straight with people downloading things when it hasn't been crowded in the middle of the day for the past year. Something is wrong and I promise you, it is not due to people downloading on the same tower. You don't just download over 5mb/s every single day for the past year and then 300kb/s the next day. Sorry but it doesn't happen . Especially during off peak hours at 12:30 in the morning.

Impossible no, implausible yes.
While you might not have an outage in your area perhaps they are doing maintenance and cut a few towers down transferring the load around to surrounding towers. This does not signify an outage as you have not lost service.
Anything on your phone calling out for data in the background?
Does the phone still register 4g or has it dropped to 3 / 2g? Have you rebooted the phone? Disabled / re-enabled data connection on the phone? Are you using an application or website to gather your speed data? have you tried both to see if just an application or website is mis reporting?

It is still registering as 4G. My upload speeds are normal but download is not. I have restarted the phone multiple times, I've pulled the SIM, I've switched to WCDMA only and back to auto again. I have been using the Speed Test app to test the speeds and they are right because web pages are taking minutes to load. I am on my works WiFi right now which is fine. Those speeds are normal.

Personally I'd wait it out. If speeds are not back from a week from now, I would most definitely contact customer loyalty. Tell them youre unhappy with the service, etc and you jut purchased a new phone. maybe you can get out of contract or maybe they can look into your problem to a further extent.

Yea, I just hope it doesn't happen when I go home in the morning where I also get speeds greater than 5 MB/s and my house is about 15 towers away. If it happens, then we know its a problem with the phone. I don't think Customer loyalty can do anything g for me being I am not on contract and they just recently gave me a free Sensation while remaing off contract. They also let me keep my G2X so they have done more than enough. I just want a replacement if there is something wrong with it. Hopefully there's not.

Weird, I wonder if they could be throttling you on accident and it had not shown up in the system yet or whomever you asked about the outage was not looking properly.
Anyone else you know with the same phone or 4g device that can test and see?
Outside of pursuing phone problems and Tmobile issues in your area I'm outta ideas
(UPDATE)...... My phone is perfectly fine everywhere else and I am now back at work where I am on the same tower I got these slow speeds on. I am chalking it up to a problem with this tower since my phone is fine everywhere else.

4G vs WIFI

This is weird when I run speed test on 4g I have download speeds of 7mbs avg. When I run Wifi I get avg of 3mbs which is about half as fast, but as far as my expierence Wifi works twice as fast when surfing web or downloading files what gives. What do you guys prefer, I mean while you are home around Wifi.

I use wifi. My 4g network sucks at my home.
Sent from my SGH-T959V using XDA
Generally my results are similar. My home ISP is pretty terrible though, really the only time I use Wifi is to download ROMs, for whatever reason I seem get issues if I download them over the Mobile Network, possibly corrupted downloads.
Otherwise just for Wifi calling.

WiFi & 4G are around the same at my home.... WiFi is usually around 9.5 mb/s while 4G is around 6 to 7 mb/s. Call quality is noticeably better on 4G than WiFi.
T-Mo has a free option in your account to not get charged for WiFi calling minutes...it's disabled by default so log on or call and get it changed if you use WiFi for calling.

This is my theory remember its not fact just a theory.
Using the mobile data connection you have to share with every person in that area on T-Mobile. Using wifi you only share with the people in your neighborhood. Even tho you are getting those speeds with a higher ping because of couple hundred people playing pandora or something it will slow the process.
Another thing remember a speed test is just that a test. It is done in a short period of time. I can run a speed test at my house through out the day and get varying results. Even while getting the max DL speed sometimes things will take longer to load then when Im barely getting 1mb speeds. The load on the network has a very large result on how fast things actually download.
Good point

Different WiFi problem?

My WiFi connection always says it's full but it takes longer than on 3g to load. I'm not even on hspa and it's faster than the WiFi. Yet when I do a speed test for the WiFi it's great. Anyone else have this problem or is this the same WiFi problem as before?

I get that alot, and it is truly annoying. I'm an android noob/apple convert and one of the biggest android quirks for me is that if wi-fi is "connected" the apps won't fall back to 4g if the wi-fi craps out. If i have 5 bars of 4G don't ****ing tell me I have no connection, use the 4G.

Exact same thing here.
I actually see my wifi bars go down to zero bars and come back up to full bars while browsing. I did a speed test and it slows the speed when it goes to zero or one bars. I tried to squeeze the phone between the camera and the volume rocker but it doesn't seem to fluctuate much by squeezing. Anybody else experience this? I'm on sick sense rom.
