Hi,
I tried to share my internet connection from my PC to my XT720. Tried two PC apps - some from Tenda (WiFi card manufacturer) and one from Ralink (WLAN utility). The result is the same: the phone finds the network and connects. I can even browse and search apps on market, but neither can I download them (no data downloaded, automatically paused after a while) or browse the web (tried both stock browser and Opera Mini). Just once it downloaded about 500 kB (1/3 of the Adobe Reader) and loaded Google.
Now when typing the message I tried to run the web again and it works - not amazingly fast, but does, but no market downloads though. Really do not understand, trying to make it work for hours...
Well, browsing started to work, but still cannot download any apps from the market (no data downloaded -> shows "Download paused"), YouTube app also transfers no data and shows connection problem...
I hope this not it but Google was going to stop letting rooted phones not let use market.

My phone is not rooted. Furthermore downloading via my mobile internet connection works as well as YouTube
Saw this but haven't tried it.

1: GPS problem
I'm using a GPS program named MapKing, whenever i open the program and try to on the GPS , it will state "GPS open failed, switch to navigtor mode?"
I don't know how to solve this problem and i am hoping that someone can aid with me this.
2: Web pages
I am using a wireless connection in my school with is hidden, no security. I can access to windows live, my school's webpage, however i cannot access to other webpages like www.google.com , www.youtube.com etc
I have tried going to those sites with activesync with my laptop using the internet connection and using GPRS, and i can enter those webpages. Is there anything i need to change/edit to enter those webpages? I am sure the school didn't block of other webpages because i tried using my friend's ppc(WM5) to go in and it worked.
Internal GPS
Check that it is using the right COM port. For me its COM4 on my Sprint unit which works ok with Tom Tom. Also make sure that you have used the Quick GPS settings to download the latest "assist" data to speed up the GPS location "fix". Another thing is that the GPS unit might not get powered on unless in use, so the first time you use it it might take some time to "power-up."
If it still doesn't work, have you tried Google Maps? It works great for on-the-fly GPS mapping (although it needs to download the data and only works with good cell data coverage).
Good luck!
Need some expert help on this one. I've googled loads but cannot find a solution.
I'm also very new to this, so be gentle.
Here's my problem: I cannot connect to anything via Wifi. I can browse the web, visit the market etc etc with wifi turned off, but with wifi turned on ... nada!!
History: I rooted my HTC Desire HD recently (using VISIONary) and took out some annoying apps (via adb shell), such as Stocks, Peep and Flickr. Now maybe I've deleted something I shouldn't, but I thought I was being very careful.
I've also clocked the phone using Buzz_sense_1.3.8.3_OCUV, and it appears stable at 1.2GHz (used setCPU)
So Far: I followed a thread to check my wifi is OK and the router is OK, there are no security issues, I trashed all my settings and re-did them, I got a ping app and pinged the router successfully. I use AndFTP app on my phone and that reported a java.net.SocketException: No route to host.
ROM Manager reports "the ROM you are using does not support OTA updates"
The Market app reports "A network error has occured"
WiFi settings says I'm connected, but I cannot browse to anywhere on my phone through Wifi. It's driving me nuts.
Any ideas guys?

3 ideas:
flash another baseband radio
re-flash your current rom, or another rom if don´t works...
150% effective lol
thanks Sergi but that didn't have any impact, still cannot browse over wifi
All,
I am a new Note 10.1 Wifi(GT-N8013) owner and am struggling with an issue that seems to not be entirely isolated to me. Based on what I've read in this forum it seems to stem from router compatibility. The issue I'm having is that file transfers via wifi start out at full speed and after some random period of time between 1 and 60 seconds the speed degrades until the transfer stops completely.
I have tried transferring using ES File Explorer via FTP and LAN, I've also tried via LAN using Astro. When using the Play store to perform a large app update the transfer will just hang on updating, forcing me to ultimately kill it and restart it, however sometimes it will succeed. The youtube app will often not load the related content on the channels page i.e. comments, other video links, etc. instead just showing the 'loading circle' in it's the place where this content should show up. Usually if I navigate to another channel or video then go back to the one I wanted to watch, it will successfully load and play the video. I have several other networked devices in my house(GS3, Asus TF101, GN2, Laptops, etc.) that all have no issues.
I have two routers with one serving as the main internet connection and the secondary serving as a WDS extender. One is a Linksys brand, the other a Buffalo brand. Both are b/g routers. Both are running DD-WRT v24-SP2. All connected devices are given a specifically assigned(Via Mac Address) ip address via DHCP.
Things I have tried to resolve this:
Changed the channel on the router
Set the Note tablet to a static IP address
Connected to each router
Restarted the tablet
Sat right next to the router(To determine if it was a range issue)
Disabled power saving mode on the tablet
Interestingly I don't seem to have issues when performing a file transfer via Dolphin browser. I used it last night to install some of the Humble Bundle games. A couple of them were around 500MB and the download completed with no issues.
I also am able to run and complete several Speedtest.net speedtests in a row without a timeout or hiccup.
One thing to note in particuluar: I set up my Note 2 to as an access point and tethered my tablet to it. When using this configuration, I was then able to transfer the entire file via FTP this way, albiet slower than being on WiFi.
I should point out that when this is occurring, The Wifi icon is present and both the upload and download arrows are showing activity so it appears that my connection is good and solid.
As I said, I did search this forum and found a few threads that relate this same issue, however no apparent resolution was posted. Are any of you experiencing this and if so, did you solve it, and if so, how?
Could this be a router issue? And if so, what other brands are recommended? I've been wanting to upgrade to N, this might be a good opportunity to do so...
Thanks.
Correct me if I'm wrong but it sounds like you're experiencing more issues with Google services (play store, yahoo, docs). If that's the case, you're not alone and it's neither your tablet nor your router. Do a search for slow Google services and you'll find a bunch of speed fixes, some which work fine at times then become irrelevant. I haven't found a good solution myself.
Good luck.

I wouldn't say it's with Google services specifically. As I said even using ES File explorer to try to copy files over wifi either via the LAN feature or the FTP feature will result in the transfer ultimately timing out. And the size of the file doesn't appear to be a factor as it does this whether the file is 50MB or 500MB. I am not sure why I'm able to transfer with no issues via a browser vs a network share or ftp browser. Maybe the http protocol is better at handling hiccups in the transfer process.
Very frustrating to say the least.
it is not the fw either.. I use dd wrt at both home and work with no issues

I don't have internet at my location, so I have to use my phone as a tether. When I run Pdanet, I have to run it with level 1 hidden usage or T-Mobile will pop up saying I've run out of hotspot data. However, if I try to view Netflix with hidden usage, I get message 51 saying my computer isn't compatible. Is there a workaround for this that I'm not aware of?
Edit: I'm using a crappy MyTouch 4G for the phone and my computer is Windows 7, browser is Chrome.
I'm having the same/similar issue. It takes me directly to the page that lists the system requirements to watch Neftlix instantly. Obviously this is caused by whatever method PdaNet+ uses to hide the tether usage (it works fine if I use WiFi).
It's my guess that the problem lies with Microsoft Silverlight, because when I go to the webpage to install/update Silverlight, it just hangs and the url string in the browser ends with "?reason=unsupportedbrowser&_helpmsg=NoKnownBrowser.mozilla#sysreq"
I've tried a couple different user agent switchers to no avail. I can use the WiFi Share option on PdaNet or a similar separate program (or connect directly with PdaNet and BT) and watch Netflix on my tablet just fine, but the Android app for Netflix doesn't use Silverlight.

What I've been doing to circumvent this is disable hiding tether usage when I click on a show/movie to watch, but then I turn the hiding back on as soon as the page loads, so it doesn't use USB tether info for the loading of the video.

If it does, it's no more than loading a normal page. I switch back over to hidden as soon as the "loading circle" shows up on the screen. Before it gets to the red page with the long loading bar. (If that makes sense.)
In other words, I have never used up my mobile hotspot allowance by doing this and I've been averaging about 50gigs of data a month. It WILL use up your hotspot allowance if you leave it unhidden. I learned that the hard way my first month.
Very cool. Depending on the time of day I get 25-40+ Mb/sec download speeds at my apartment (there's T-Mobile antennae on the roof), and with PdaNet, I don't need home internet. But trying to get Netflix to work was frustrating the crap out of me. Even spent an hour talking with a higher-level tech support guy and he couldn't figure out the problem either. Tried Chrome/Iron, Firefox, and IE. Uninstalled/reinstalled them all, Silverlight, etc.
I really wonder how PdaNet hides the tether usage. It's not a user agent switcher, because you can go to websites that detect your system, and they identify my set-up exactly.
Now that I know how to get it to work and not drain my Hotspot, the only question is do I start with "24" or "Buffy the Vampire Slayer"?
I know this thread is very old but i had to share what i experimented yesterday. I have Windows 8 in my PC and downloaded the Netflix app from the Marketplace. PDANet seems to work flawlessly with the Netflix app.
I use MetroPCS, owned by T Mobile, and I just bought a new LG G Stylos. On this new phone I reloaded my apps including PDANet, a tethering app from Play Store. After having used the app for nine months with my old phone and my computer, I was no longer able to surf the internet. I could still connect, but ZERO data was downloaded. I used a second older phone which still has service and I was able to connect and everything worked fine.... T Mobile seems to have blocked the third party app from allowing me to tether my phone to my computer.
A partial work around is to use Tor Browser. I am still blocked from accessing the internet through other programs or browsers, but I am able to get full internet access while using Tor Browser.
Hope this is helpful for some of you.
