I want to know if anyone else is experiencing this. Every morning when I unplug my TB to go to work, within 5 minutes my battery drops from 100% to 91% or something close. The phone is completely stock. Then, when I plug the phone back in at work it seems to charge at a normal rate until it hits the 99% mark. At that point it takes like 30 minutes to get to the 100% mark. What is going on?

Your phone trickle charges after getting to full to keep your battery in good shape. Your phone basically charges all the way drops about 10% then recharges all the way back up slowly.

The phone does that as a safety measure. Look up bump charging and such. If you really want to walk out at full strength, charge your phone while off til green LED, unplug power and plug it back in, it'll take a few minutes to get to green led again, do this a few times.
Just so you know I did do a "bump charge" search. I must be an idiot cuz I find it really difficult to use the search function on this site. Thanks for your input, I got more info on these two replies than I did from the search.

I just got my Captivate a couple of days ago (refugee from a Tilt2). I am slowly learning about Android.
I used the Pimp My Android PDF, rooted the phone and installed Launcher Pro. I charged the battery overnight and a message was on the phone that it is fully charged. When I unplugged it, I immediately got a message that the battery is low and I should plug it in. I have plugged and unplugged it a couple of times and it is behaving like the battery needs to be charged.
Any ideas what could be causing this?
That doesn't sound good. May need to take it back and get a new one. The only other suggestion I have is i've seen some folks say you need to condition the battery meter so it reads right. Leave the phone unplugged until the battery is so low it's flashing... wear it almost all the way down. Then plug it in and charge it up till the "battery full" thing pops up. Wash, rinse repeat. I saw several folks say after a few times of that, the battery lasted a LOT longer. Maybe yours is just really confused or it's bad. If you don't want to take it back (considering all the stuff you've done to it) try charging/discharging a few days and see if it's any better.
That happened to me one time when charging through a front USB port on my computer. I think it was the 3rd day I had the phone. I no longer use the front port for charging or data exchange, and haven't seen the problem again.
After Spending the day with the charger plugged in, it seems to be OK now. Maybe it was something I did. I will be keeping an eye on it for a while. Thanks for your responses.

I think I have a defective thunderbolt battery, sometimes when I pull my phone off the charger it drops to 95%. Funny thing this is not a everyday thing. Anybody having a similar problem like this? Sorry if this been discuss before. Have a bless day everybody...on my way to the office.
I have the same thing happen. There is something goofy with how the meter reports battery level. If you reboot your phone it drops even more.

Yea I notice that too. I seen my battery drop down 15 percent after rebooting. Is the battery defective? Or the phone is defective?
Bump charge it. Charge it all the way. Unplug, turn it off, then on, and keep charging.

The phone/battery aren't defective. I have the extended battery so I never bump charge it, but he is right. Charge it up until your charging light goes green, unplug it and then turn it off. Once it shuts down, plug it back in and will now be orange. Charge it until it's green again. Sometimes it will take a few minutes, sometimes an hour. I'm also color blind so I can never tell whether that damned light is red/orange/green. >.<

He gonna have to turn it on then plug the charger in. If left off then plugged in the phone will boot into recovery.

charge ur batt. to 100%, then go into cwm and clear batt. stats, when u turn it back on it should b around 80-85% then charge all the way back full again and then u will b at full capacity

is this all the time we have to do, I have the extended battery and it doesnt drop and I read about clearing the batterystats.bin but is this something we always have to do when we charge the phone? when I use the standard stock battery it drops with no problem
I didn't have any issues until I wiped the battery stats and now, my battery is constantly inconsistent. I would not recommend doing it as it has nothing but a pain in my arse since.
Have tried "bumping it" which essentially means to charge it to 100%, restart it, then charge it back again from whatever it dropped to.. Mine initially was around 85ish.. After a few "bumps" it crept up to 90 or 91 and then wouldn't go any higher. I charged it back to 100% and decided to follow the advice from another article which said to let it deplete to 0%.. In doing that, surprisingly it "froze" in a couple of places, I don't recall the 1st % but the 2nd % was definitely at the 28% mark. It literally sat there for a good 2+ hours with screen on max and didn't go down. Eventually it went down to 1% and I charged it back to 100%.
Issues still remain, wondering if I should've let it completely die out and force itself off?
Lesson: DO NOT MESS WITH BATTERY STATS with CW.

Where do I get into CWM, to do this?

CWM = Clockwork Mod.. Goto Market, download ROM manager, then you can flash CWM. Not sure if that'll do you any good if you're not rooted though.
why when I reboot my phone like 15% of the battery life drops I love this damn phone man...i cant put it down while im at work
The battery reading after reboot is wierd.
Yesterday I was at 51% and draining are at a pretty steady rate like normal. After rebooting, it showed 41% but then it say at 41% for AWHILE.. after like an hour, it read 40% and started discharging at the normal rate.

Thanks for the repost, I had skimmed this thread earlier but don't recall it being so detailed. Seems like the moral of the story is that while "bump charging" works, it's not really recommended as it can reduce the overall life of the battery. Wonderful, now I regret ever messing with the battery stats at all, although I can't say for sure I didn't have this issue prior to doing so.
My OEM battery wouldn't hold a charge even after charging it all day... I took it to the VZ store and they replaced it for free...... I also just bought the larger 2750 mAh battery.... works great!
ok, so I'm running faux's rom and I have run CM 7. I have tested this a few times and each rom and it seems to help improve battery life.
Since the drivers are screwy I noticed when I charged my phone it would say 100% but I would unplug it and it would drop down to 97% right away. I think the lower number is the accurate one, So the battery really isnt getting fully charged because the phone thinks it is so of course it will die sooner
So what I did was let it charge to 100% then unplugged it, it went down right away. I plugged it back in and it started charging again, in a few minutes it showed 100%, I unplugged and it showed 97%, so I kept repeating this then eventually I unplugged and it was 98%, then eventually 99%. After doing this my battery lasted a lot longer. I usually have keep an extra battery on me and usually have to switch but for the first time my g2x lasted the whole day! So give this a shot.. it could help if you suffer from really bad battery life.

could unplug, then turn off, plug in and charge while off for a while, the unplug and turn on, then plug back in and let charge. then wipe batt stats and unplug. works for me.
I have one extra battery. I never charged my phone through the charger it came with. I always charge my battery with the portable charger. No doubt the portable charger takes 6-8 hours to fully charge my battery, but on the upside my battery lasts for more than a day.

I noticed a similar thing recently. I generally charge my phone overnight while I'm sleeping and use it for an alarm clock. One morning I decided to reboot my phone (my experience is that it needs a reboot every couple of days or various things stop working) before I got up, so I powered it down, still plugged into the charger. I then tried to power it on, but instead of the boot screen I got the device-off charging animation, indicating that it wasn't fully charged, even though it had said 100% before I powered it off. After letting it sit and charge while off for another hour or so, I booted it, and I think I got exceptionally long battery life that day (although my days are all so different it's hard to compare one to another).
I think bump charging does help, but its not good for your battery in the long run

Just got a new battery from T-Mo today, as my battery life has been depressing since 2.3.4 update a month ago. With the old battery, I tried 5 cycles in a row of fully discharging, and fully charging while off. No difference, Juice Defender, m a y b e a little difference...been searching around for an hour, and remember a few things from reading XDA over the past month. So many different techniques, most for rooted phones, mine is completely stock(and I do plan on rooting soon still researching/learning), 1st thing I did when I took it out of the mail, was put it in the phone, and charge it while phone is off. Green LED has been on for 3 hours now. I'm scared to turn it on!! How do I calibrate this baby and make sure to the best of my ability this battery stays good?? Sorry for essay on one question.

This is what he said.
Charge the batt all the way while off(wall), then unplug, plug back in, light will be amber, then change to green. Repeat this process till The amber light doesn't come on anymore.
SO, I did this...about 100 times. It would go amber, blink, amber, then to green with no blink. Then sometimes it would go amber, and blink to green. back and forth. Seriously about 100 times. It never would initially light green. Amber everytime.
So I finally gave up, went to sleep. Still getting mediocre battery life today.
Where is help when you need it??
Drain it until it turns off, plug in, turn phone back on and let it charge to 100%, unplug, drain until it dies, repeat process 3 or 4 times. Download calibration app from market and use it when 100 % is reached.

2) Unplug the device and Turn the phone OFF and charge for 1 hour
3) Unplug the device Turn ON wait 2 minutes and Turn OFF and charge for another hour

It's called Battery Calibrator. This is the process I found on the forums, it works, on stock battery I average 5 hrs screen time and can get over a day on one charge. On the Anker I get even better, I have been methodical about conditioning batteries and I am getting great battery life.

Yo, when u see that green red led combo, know that your phone is telling u that battery is overheating/overcharging. It's colorful for a reason, telling u to stop.

well, like I originally said, I have seen numerous techniques on calibrating. Just trying to find a solid one. That guy @KillaHurtz had a lot of thanks and seemed to know what he was talking about, but like I said, I tried his technique 100 times and couldn't get the results he was saying "repeat until no amber light showing", and that was after leaving the phone on charge(while off) 3 hours after it already turned green.
So one says, do this...another says...that is overheating/charging your phone....
are you mistaking my amber for red? I seriously hope I was not damaging a brand new battery before even turning my phone on with it.

Rhiannon224 is right. I don't repeat the process 3 or 4 times like she does, but once a month I let my phone run down until it turns itself off. Then I leave it off and charge it overnight. I get better than average battery life, although I don't get 5 hours of screen-on time with the standard battery or with the EVO3D battery (1730 mAh). I easily make it through my normal usage for a day -- 20 to 30 emails (gmail and HTC Mail app set to push), facebook and weather sync every hour; Plume sync every 30 mins, 20 or so texts, 15 to 20 mins of phone calls, some Slacker radio, short sessions of Cordy or Angry Birds to waste a little time.

Hah, sorry for the late response. When I said red, I was referring to amber. There are only 2 LED colors for the Sensation. Have you tried disconnecting the charger, turning off the phone, then connecting again? If it wasn't at full cap, it'll go back to being amber. Do this too many times, you'll notice it'll start flashing green and amber, signalling that the battery is getting overcharged.
If your phone is on and charging and you get say a text/email or other notification, you will get the green/amber flashing as well. I'm not sure if the battery is overheating of it will flash multiple colors or not however owning a sensation I can tell you from experience that my phone has been hot to the point where it is uncomfortable to hold charging or not and the only time I have seen an orange/green flashing combo is when it was charging and I had a notification. Orange by itself means charging. Green by itself means fully charged. Hope that helps with the confusion. For the battery life, if your phone is rooted, I recommend using faux clock to manage your CPU levels and keep your battery life up. If not, try lowering the brightness of your screen in order to make the battery life last longer. My phone gets me through a full day without charging (pre and post rooting) and I'm on it quite frequently and all I do is use my phone as usual and drain it until it dies once or twice a month to help prevent the "memory effect". Hope this helps!

My 727 (AT&T) is rooted stock rom. The battery indicator gets 'stuck' a lot of the time. It happens in both a widget and the default battery indicator in the status line.. They will both show 100% and I know full well that they CAN'T be at 100% after sitting around all afternoon off the charger. I restart the phone and immediately it drops to 42% ...
Anybody else seen an issue like this?

what i suggest you do is calibrate the battery.
1 plug it in and charge it to 100%
2 turn off the phone and charge it until it says 100%
3 unplug and turn it on and leave it for 3min.
4 turn it off and plug it in and let it sit until it says 100% again
5 repeat step 3
6 unplug turn on the phone and use it until it hits 0% and turns off
7 plug in the phone and let it charge to 100%
now use as normal and after a few days your battery will read more accuratley and more importantly, will last longer. keep in mind your battery does lie to you but just use the phone and you'll start getting more out of it.
moving forward, charge whenever you can. Lithium ion batteries will last longer if they're charged often (like at 60%-40%).

Yeah, I even downloaded the utility that removes the battery life file, and creates a new one. I guess I need to try one of these procedures again.. I honestly think it is more to do with a bad application, no matter what the battery life meter should not 'hang', and if it does for more than a few minutes, then it should be able to recover by forcing a restart of the app... *sigh*...
This is a common issue with this phone. Look up "battery stuck at 100%" in Google and you'll find quite a few results. Supposedly it's an issue with certain chargers not giving out proper levels so it trips out some indicator chips in the battery and/or phone.

Just reboot your phone and use the stock charger and cable from now on.
I had this issue with the rooted kernel (can't remember which one) but after downloading "battery calibration" from the market and following the in-app instructions the problem was solved.
