Hey guys so I'm pretty tech savvy and i know my way around this phone but something weird's been happening. I had CM 4.2 on my Mytouch3G. I tried applying a theme which made it not boot up anymore(bootloop).
I did make a nandroid backup before but when i tried restoring with it, it keeps getting stuck at the green mt3g screen or at the second loading screen. I've tried flashing the rom again but gets stuck at the same place. If I just install the htc 1.6 update it works fine. But when I go to apply the CM 4.2 update it gets stuck again. I have wiped a million times, and fixed ext system also a bunch of times. I have also unrooted also by applying sappimg.nbh and starting over. Rooted, tried again, but nothing, still getting stuck at the loading screen. I have gotten it a couple times to go all the way to the home screen but i get com.android.phone force close.
Also i've tried going from stock htc 1.6 to CM 4.1.99 and up, not just straight to CM 4.2 so i don't know what to do.
Any help appreciated!
I seem to be having this problem as well.
Phone just freezes at MT3g loading screen.
4.1.9.2 seems to load fine, however 4.2.1 flashes properly, but phone just sits at green loading screen.

You didnt say the steps you took to flash it. Did you do the step by step instructions on Cyan's OP? You cant just flash it like a normal ROM you have to do what he says on his post. I followed the steps and my MT3G works fine with it.

But i did say the steps...i first flashed the htc recovery image like it CM said to do. I even said in the post that i already had cm 4.2 on my phone but had to reflash after a theme froze my phone at the boot screen. I know its a different install process compared to any other rom.
Make sure you wipe before applying rom

Do people even take time to read the original post, or do they just blurt out things that sound helpful? I said towards the middle of the post that i've wiped a million times and also tried fixing ext filesystem. I appreciate anyone trying to help but please read my post carefully!
I have the same problem guys, but oly with 4.2.3.1

i HAD a similar problem when i went to 4.1.999 the first time but i fixed it.
i prefer amon ra's recovery 1.2.3g. i wiped the file system AND cache. then i did the 1.6 update followed immediately with the CM update. i rebooted and let it load up completely, then rebooted into recovery again and applied the new theme.
i actually went through the process a couple times before it worked flawlessly. it may have been a different problem though, since i was getting past the mytouch splash and about 10 seconds into the android splash before it would freeze.

Thats a good idea...i'll try amon ra's recovery image and see if there's different results. Will post back soon.

So i tried everything from scratch but with amon ra's rec image this time. It gets passed the first boot screen and right after the second android screen it goes straight to a black screen. Have tried a few variations of installing and same thing happens everytime...This blows, i'm so stuck.

Quick update for anyone with any ideas. I finally got it to boot up and it runs great except for two things I've notices so far. When i try to add widgets nothing pops up and when i go to settings the window comes up for half a second then goes away and back to home screen. Now what I did to fix it was partition the sd card which i was told is NOT necessary. Then after i got it to work i tried again with a sdcard that was NOT partitioned and it did the same thing again, black screen no-go. So it seems like if you don't partition the sdcard on some phones the phone freezes at a black screen. Keywords being "some phones". So for anybody who knows how to fix the widget and settings problems not opening, please help me....Thanks

Actually if you have an MT3G I believe you don't flash the 1.6 recovery image, but flash the 1.6 ADP rom. That is what I did since I was already rooted but with AmonRa's donut rom, but wanted to give Cy a shot, and I had no problems flashing this HTC ADP 1.6 DRC83 , then reboot manually but while rebooting I pushed home fast while it was rebooting to get me to the recovery screen, then I just flashed Cy's 4.2.2 then I went to the market and downloaded his Cyanogen updater and checked for an update, then found the update 4.2.3.1 and downloaded that straight to my phone and then choose to reboot and it automatically installed 4.2.3.1 straight to my MT3G with no problems at all.
From Cyanogen:
Download: Android 1.6 Recovery Image. (This isn’t like a typical "recovery" image we know -- it’s simply HTCs version of an update.zip.)
* Magic32A and Magic32B users only: Download this HTC_ADP_1.6_DRC83_rooted_base.zip

I would go ahead and put Cy's latest back on your sd card, and also download the HTC_1.6_ADP rom if you have a MT3G (Magic 32B) or a Magic 32A and put that on your sd card. WIPE WIPE WIPE - I always wipe three times, and wipe cache also, then flash the 1.6 ADP rom then reboot but while it is rebooting hold down home to get back to recovery screen then apply Cy's on top of the 1.6 ADP rom.
I went ahead and just put Cy's 4.2.2 (instead of 4.2.3.1) on my sd card along with the HTC 1.6 ADP Rom and flashed the HTC 1.6 ADP rom first, then rebooted manually from the recovery screen, then quickly hold down home while rebooting to get back to recovery screen and applied any zip Cy4.2.2. Then when I signed in went to market to download Cyanogen Updater and set that up and then checked for updates and it found 4.2.3.1. I dowloaded that from my phone and then it was automatic from there, just asked if I wanted to reboot and apply and I said yes. Up and running with no problems so far....

That is the exact process i run thru. Sorry for the confusion, the reason i said htc recovery 1.6 is because thats what htc calls it. So i do have the htc 1.6 adp.....and i do wipe a lot also
This is probably a dumb question as I assume you would have mentioned it, but are there themes involved in any of your troubles or are you staying with stock 4.2.3.1? I only ask because I was having the same issue with the SECOND android splash crashing because I had tried to install a theme before booting into Cyanogen at least once.
I also don't think you should reboot after installing the 1.6 base like mavsfan was suggesting, though I'm not sure if it's related to your issues.
Try booting it up without an sdcard inserted. If it works that means it's your card. Card issues are very hard to diagnose and even harder to solve (other than reformat).

Hey thanks for your suggestion, i have tried that, I've reformatted, I've tried different SD cards and nothing changed. I'm pretty sure the sd cards are good...
[SOLVED]Finally...
So for anyone having similar issues, here's what i did to finally get this working.
Apparently with Cyanogen's newest ROM's you HAVE to partition your sdcard, so the Rom will run on certain phones. I don't know if its all phones because there's only a few people that i've heard to have this problem. So here's the steps:
Things you will need(all these can be found in this forum)
1. Phone+sdcard
2. sappimg.nbh
3. FlashRecovery.apk
5. AmonRa's recovery image(has more options than CM's RecImg)
6. Htc ADP 1.6 stock donut rom
7. CM 4.2.3+
8. A theme(optional)(check out the Eclair 2.0 theme)
Starting from scratch
1. a. Put sappimg.nbh on sd card and turn the phone off.
b. Turn phone on by holding VOLUME DOWN+POWER
c. Apply the stock sapphire image and boot up to home screen.
2. a. Now put FlashRec.apk and AmonRa's recovery image on sdcard.
b. Install a file manager like Astro and install FlashRec.apk
c. Now open it and click Backup Recovery Image.
d. Now erase whats in the box and type /sdcard/name.of.recoveryimage.img
e. Yes you do have to type .img after the recovery image name.
f. Then click flash.
3. a. Now put the HTC ADP 1.6 Rom and CM 4.2.3+ Rom on the sdcard.
b. Reboot into recovery by holding HOME+POWER.
c. Now partition your sdcard by selecting it from the menu(the one that says +swap)
d. Now convert ext2 to ext3. After that I did:
4. a. Wipe, format ext3, wipe
b. Flash HTC ADP 1.6
c. Wipe, format ext3, wipe again.
d. Flash CM 4.2.3+
e. Wipe, format ext3, wipe one more time
f. Reboot, now it should work, give it some time to boot up.
Adding the theme
1. Make a nandroid backup before starting to save you the hassle.
2. Put your theme.zip on sdcard and reboot in recovery again.
3. Choose apply any zip and choose the theme from the list.
4. Reboot once its done and enjoy.
If anyone has any questions about anything here go ahead and reply or PM me. Have a good one guys, hope this helps anyone.
Oh and if you guys see any mistakes let me know so i can fix it, its pretty late right now
I just installed the latest Das Bamf 2.0 Beta 5 and my Thunderbolt is stuck on the dots screen (background only with notification bar on top, 0 signal bar, battery and wrong time). I cleared everything before I flashed to the rom but I am stuck. What did I do wrong? What can I do to fix this?
Boot into recovery and wipe then reflash the rom or a backup. Don't fret.

I guess that I have overlooked it, probably because I am worried as hell about screwing my phone.
Probably be a dumb question because I should have seen it but, How do I boot into recovery?
Edit: Found it. When I was looking for it earlier I didn't go far enough, needed to go one more page.
Well she lives again. I also tried to flash to 2.0 beta 5 and it did the same thing again. I am not sure what the problem is, but I guess I will just enjoy a rooted TB for a little while and then flash to a ginger rom of some sort.
Did you flash the radio for bamf that is posted in the first thread of bamf?
There is a special radio you need to flash to get gingerbread working.

Will this keep it from even loading the lockscreen?
If so do I flash it before or after the rom?
Edit: I just went to the 2.0 Beta 5 thread and looked, I do believe I flashed the correct radio. I will give it a try again in the morning, it is almost 1 here so I really need to get into the bed, gotta be up at 6 in the morning for work.
Happened to me too. I just reloaded the new GB radio and the flashed the 2.0 rom. All good after that.
Haha... Yeah lack of sleep doesn't help... Give it another shot after you've had a chance to get some rest.
Some people have had issues like yours. You could try re-flashing just the ROM. If all else fails just re-flash everything like eatrice313 did. You'll get it eventually.
If you flashed the radio in the bamf 2 thread then you did the right radio. You flashed it in hboot right? Should have been named P05IMG.zip If you did that then you did it right. Flash rom, then radio.
I used the non-adb method - flash rom, batt pull, then hold power and vol down to boot into hboot then flash the P05IMG file.

After some sleep I carefully downloaded the Alpha Gingerbread radio set and flashed it through hboot and then reflashed the Bamf 2 ROM and got the same result, broken on reboot.
Sorry man... not sure whats going on. Did you try rebooting to recovery and reflashing just the ROM after it boots up and is "broken"?
Somebody with more knowledge might be able to help out, I'm still fairly new to the android scene.

I did attempt that but it didn't work out for me.
The odd thing is that I tried to flash to Gingeritus and I kept getting force until the phone would just shut down. Could these two problems be be related?

I would try REdownloading the latest Bamf Beta 5 and putting it on your sd card...then factory reset everything and wipe cache and dalvik cache, and reflash Bamf. You may have gotten a bad download file.

lolzzz...yeah it happens, let us know and if anything I'll help you troubleshoot your problem.
I'm having the exact problem. Flashed the GB radio, had no service with the froyo rom, flashed BAMF GB Beta 5, boot animation plays and then phone freezes.
I just reflashed the radio and still nothing I'm about to reflash the ROM and see what happens
Did you wipe Data?
I wiped data and cahe and dalvik cache
How long did you let it sit before turning off/pulling battery/throwing at the wall? First boot can take upwards of 5 minutes.
Are you talking about the animation screen or the home screen after that? I let it set a few min at the home screen and nothing happened
Just my .02.... When I and most others made the switch from froyo to gingerbread, it wasn't an exaggeration when we say "wipe, wipe, and wipe again". I wiped everything 3 times... By that I mean factory reset 3 times, wipe dalvik 3, batt stats and all 3 times. Flashed Rom in recovery, batt pull before reboot, volume down + power to get to hboot, flash radio and reboot. I had zero reboots upon startup and haven't had a problem since. Well at least no problems that weren't directly caused by experimenting with some stuff. When the phone does boot the first time, just walk away from it and let it do its thing. The kernel needs to settle. Don't jump in and start trying to set it up too fast. Patience helps a lot in the beginning.

Try flashing a different ROM or a backup?
Also, my shift sits at the splash screen for 5-10 minutes before going to an animation sometimes.

Did you do a full wipe and try installing a fresh ROM? If all else fails run the RUU [RUU] or use the one zip One "zip" RUU You should be able to fix through recovery though.
I have done full wipes, I have not run RUU yet downloading now. one"zip" leaves me at the HTC screen. I don't think I have given it 5-10 minutes yet. may as well try.
Go back to recovery, mount the sdcard to your pc, xfer all the files from the sd card, format the sd card to fat32 and ruu back to stock. Easiest way I know to make sure everything is back to normal, unless you have a nand backup.

Alright so here is the issue, because that's what I'm trying to do. If I power the phone off , because I want it to charge it goes straight to recovery when plugged in. I turn it on it sits @ HTC screen. Not sure if it's taking a charge. BEcause I tried to Run RUU and I keep getting batter low error.
Well issue resolved. Whatever "broke" was fixed by of course re installing the ROM that broke it. I'm now back to rooted stock and life is good.
if this is in the wrong area im sorry i just need to know my buddy used ace kit to root my phone and it went fine then we updated rom manager and did a backup on there. then he flashed cm7 not sure which one but it was took one that said stable. now my phone is just booting cyanogen mod7 over and over. what should i do? am i screwed? sorry im new and i thought i had help but he doesent know lol.
pull the battery for like 30 sec. put it back in now hold volume down button while you press the power button the phone will go into bootloader. it will search for pd98img. once it does you will see option that says recovery click on recovery. once there do a factory wipe then restore your backup. once it boots then retry cm7 but you need to wipe the phone goin g from a sense rom to aosp . also look in the general section of inspire forums., there is a stickie that explains all about this kind of stuff
t just keeps having the cm7 bootscreen over and over again been like 20 minutes and i cant figure out if i should pull battery? am i screwed? please anyone help a poor inspire user
thanks i will try that does it take longer then 20 minutes for first boot on cm7?

no ten minutes is pretty normal. if its bootlooping usually your phone will try to load past the boot animation then reeboot instantly
Take your sd card out and put cm7 and gapps on it then put it back in, mind you while the phone is off.
Pull the battery, reinsert it, power on w/ volume dn+ power button as instructed. Let it go through the search process, when you're presented the option to select recovery, do so at that time. Once in Clockwork Mod, select wipe data/factory reset, now select install zip, select the rom and flash it, once it's done flash gapps then reboot.
All should be well in your world...
sorry confused about one thing when i hold volume down and power then click recovery do i pick backup/restore and use my backup or do i do factory wipe to get back to how i was before i flashed? sorry for the newbishness
i just want to go back to the way it was right after root till i figure out what he did wrong
factory wipe first that will wipe all of cm7 stuff off of there then restore your backup
I dont use rom manager i seem to always have problems with it just find a rom here you like.(i use virtuous unity ) download it move it to the root of your sd card and then wipe and flash it in recovery. if you like the stock look try leedroid or rumrunner there both very stable roms as well
Thank you guys so much im back to sense and without the helpless help from my buddy i will read alittle before i flash again. Thanks Again you saved a very happy Inspire 4g user!
no problem. but dont let it discourage you ive been boot looped more than once. best thing you can do is read, read, read.

Don't forget to wipe dalvik cache every time your flash roms or any major system file for that matter
If I restore from backup and then put in a new SD card I just got then I can just stick new SD card in right? It do I need to transfer stuff cause of the goldcard?
Str8, unless you like running an outdated build, I suggest you move up to the latest nightly. It has quite a few features that the stable build doesn't and is stable itself. It's all I ever use.
Ever since I flashed my first ROM, my phone will start doing random bootloops. The part that is WEIRD about this, is that it only seems to happen between about midnight and 8am. I'm on my phone a lot during the day and it runs fine. It will occasionally (maybe 2-3 times a week) freeze up and need a battery pull, but it's fine otherwise.
But in the late evening, it will get weird. And there's no real key to what is setting it off. Sometimes it will start a boot loop around 12:30/1:00am but with a battery pull and reboot, it's fine until the next night. Sometimes it will start a boot loop around 6am and it's the same thing. I will occasionally have to try a few times to get it to quit looping, but it seems like once 8am rolls around, it quits.
I'm fairly certain this has to do with the fact I'm running custom ROMS, but what is it that is setting it off? I had this issue with CoreDroid and Honey SmartDroid. It was much worse with CoreDroid, and in reading through that massive thread, it was decided that it just didn't play well with a handful of phones. Some hardware issue. (which made me sad because I loved CoreDroid, but didn't want to risk my phone getting bricked since I'm out of warranty and too close to a renewel to pay the insurance claim) Honey SmartDroid didn't do it the first few nights, but then it started in.
I've tried changing my charging cable (I usually recharge at night, and thought that might be it) as well as not recharging at night. With both ROMs, I did a total wipe and re-installed, letting it run for a few days without any extra apps installed (except for a basic few, such as update to Facebook, Gtask, etc). Nothing that I can think of that changes any of my phone settings during those hours. It does it anyway.
I haven't tried running anything closer to stock ROM for more than a few hours because they honestly bore me now that I've seen how awesome of the other ones are. So I don't know if switching back would solve the boot loop issue. But if I need to do that to prevent damage to my phone, I will. I just want to know what's causing the boot loops and why only during those hours?
Thanks!
Have you tried formatting your sd card and full wipe and reflash rom. Also it is known that when a battery starts to go bad it makes the phone reboot several times on its own. Being it goes into bootloop at night when you are charging phone would give me the impression that the culprit would be the battery.

I haven't tried formatting the sd card. When I do that, do a do a new backup on that sd card? Or just put the ROM zip on the card and go from there? It might be the battery, I hadn't thought about that. I did consider that it might be the charging cable, but it will do it regardless of whether the phone is charging or not. The phone is about a year and a half old, so the battery could well be going on it.
Sorry don't want to sound mean but there is lots of threads that all have this issue with the "random" reboots or I have search all over the place but my "issue" is different.
Look up the title random reboots in this forums or PD98 IMG etc..
I'm sure you will find the issue before yet another reboot thread gets closed..again..
If you have done that and still have issue pm me if u want ..good luck

I haven't tried formatting the sd card. When I do that, do a do a new backup on that sd card? Or just put the ROM zip on the card and go from there? It might be the battery, I hadn't thought about that. I did consider that it might be the charging cable, but it will do it regardless of whether the phone is charging or not. The phone is about a year and a half old, so the battery could well be going on it.

Do a nandroid backup then copy everything on your sd csrd to a folder on your computer then format the card. Then place rom on sd do a full wipe
1. factory wipe
2. cache wipe
3. advance> dalvik wipe
4. go back> wipe phone partitions (except sd card)
then flash rom see if that helps if you still have the issue then cheapest route would be replace battery which I think is your culprit. Good luck.
Your rom backup will be located in the clockworkmod folder in case you have any issues.

My apologies. I did try to do a search, but that vast majority of the results dealt with ROMs that I'm not running, boot loops that couldn't be stopped, or phones that I don't own. I honestly didn't see any that dealt with a phone that reboots only during certain hours. I understand how frustrating it is to have newbies constantly asking the same questions over and over, which is why I tried to avoid that. I will look up PD98 IMG and see where that gets me, as well as go through the threads from the other ROMs.
Thank you for your help.

Thank you so much for your detailed response. I'll give that a try tonight while I'm also researching the other threads I was told to go through. I'll let you know how it worked out.
No need to say sorry lol...your ok just hate so the new ones get cyber yelled at by some mod and close your thread and not getting your answer.
But even though it maybe not be for the rom that your running but also check out the Q&As of those Roms.
And also I know the htc inspire thread for ROMs is always on top of the game here but just letting you know as well Desire HD forums is I would say you should go for the most recent ROMs and updates etc.. And yes Desire HD can be used for the Htc Inspire so thats where Im at for the most part..
But if you ever get a boot loop form a rom you flash make sure you fully wipe (sorry just funny every time.you will see what I mean) from rom to rom unless other wise...If you still happen to have the PD98IMG file still on your sd card happens when you 1st root and for get that its there delete I use Es File Explorer to find whats on the sd card there are others astro file manager. Also This happen to me once when I flash scripts, gps fix, kernels then the rom that I was going to use and it just totally F'd my phone or re boots random or just gets stuck on the htc screen..
But I had made this post for another user (new) maybe this may help:
So this is an idea of what I do when I flash a rom and some other ideas/tips.
Getting Started or Flashing A Rom:
Once you root your phone (this is not in any order really) you should get ROM Manager aka Clock Work Mod. Once you get that, open the CWM and the first top half you will see flash clockworkmod recovery make sure your on wifi I would at least for the updates. You will see a dialog box click desire hd. This will allow you to make back ups of your settings that you made when you flash a rom its always a good idea to make your backups its a life save!! So, once you made your back up and this is what I do.. I plug in my phone to the pc switch to disk mode which will let you see whats on your sd card. Since you flash the CWM and recovery you will see on your sd card a folder called clockworkmod open then backups folder you will see you back that you made, drag and drop that backup file that you made to your fold that you made on pc to save it for later. And thats pretty much how I save my backups of roms etc.. Now if you need to load that back up just plug phone in disk mode cwm fold>backup drag and drop back up that you need. And boot into recovery mode and select back up and restore and select restore and the file boot and your good..
I would download which Rom I would like to use. Save it to pc to a folder that I have made that I store all my roms, backups, radios & rils, kernels..etc.. just to keep myself organized. Once you get your rom just drag and drop it to the ROOT of the sd card do NOT add it in any folder thats on the sd card. Once you have it on the card just boot into recovery flash your rom.. Other then that its easy to flash the rom.. And when you get all your settings set up make a back up and when done save it to the pc and delete it from the sd card if you dont want to keep on the card I do that..
When it comes to battery life it depends on what the rom.. But I like to use killers http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...ht=killersolth scripts for the kernels.. For me I always flash a different kernel upon flashing a new rom. For me having the kernel and killers script is the best combo for me to have for performance and battery life.. now since I have inspire I use the uv lites scripts.
For the most part flashing radios & Rils you would never really need to do that so I wouldnt recommend it for now maybe later but read about it its good to know what it does..
Other sides which I for got to add.. When you flash a new rom its always good to wipe user data.,cache, delvik it makes it for a good clean install with other roms..
Also the desire HD thread which the inspire can use the roms from that thread to.
Well I hope this helps you in any way.. if you need help PM me best of luck
SORRY FOR SUCH A LONG POST HAHA
Sooooooooo if you had ?s about Roms or Scripts,GPS not locking on after rom flashing,KERNELS (are my fav) let me know PM me

I wanted to update.
This worked great. I followed the instructions and have not had one boot loop or freeze up since. I already hit the "Thanks" button, but I wanted to thank you again for taking time to help out.

What do you mean update what Rom are you using again because if whatever Rom your using in the op should be an update if the dev made one. If I'm not mistaken once your rooted and try to do a system update the phone will freeze up.

By update, I meant that I wanted to give an update on the issue I was having. Not update my ROM. Sorry for the confusion.
