[Q] All I want to do is go back to stock rom :( - G Tablet General

I did one flash...to TNT version 4xx, and I loved it...but I'm finding I'm getting lots of Google Framework errors and generally just kind of want to start from scratch, over again.....go back to the latest version of the official viewsonic roms.
Sadly I didn't use clockwork or anything so I think my original files are history
I know there are lots of threads, and I tried to follow one about snagging a rom and moving it to the Root and all it does is re-install TNT I think I am "not getting something".
Can someone walk me through this....

New G tablet user have question

Hey guys,
I got my g tablet yesterday at sears.
I really interested to get the vegan mod it looks very cool. I'm new on these stuffs.
as you know VS just released a new update and I did update my device.
my questions are:
1-if I flash my g tablet with vegan or TnT 2.2 mods am I able to re flash my g tablet to the stock UI again? for example if VC release new update am I able to go back to the stock mod and update my device with this update?
2- after flashing g tablet with vegan or TnT 2.2 do I need to root the device to be able to access to full system file of it will be already rooted after flash it with any of vegan or TnT 2.2?
Thank you
if you install a new rom:
1. you will not want to go back to stock TapNTap provided by ViewSonic
2. You will not need to root your device, as the custom roms are already rooted
Actually, you can go back to stock Tap N Tap, using nvflash. See this post from Roebeet: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=861950
However, the updates from Viewsonic will always get torn down by Roebeet, Rothnic and other developers here and will be repackaged as a TNT Lite build within 24 hours of Viewsonic's release, so there's not much of a reason to go back to stock, especially when TNT Lite is basically superior in every way (at least, most of us find it so).

No you will not be able to get the VS updates as that is some of the removed sections in the Lite version. The reason was posted. The update manager sends your MAC address to the update servers very frequently in the clear.
However if you do keep the stock ROM you can always re-flash the device if you find the OEM ROM better. I will be shocked if you were to find that as the TNT Lite, and the Vegan are superior in every way to the the STOCK ROM.

It's fairly easy to go back, if needed. We also post all the latest firmware updates from TnT (even if they don't - still don't know why they don't offer them). See the FAQ in my sig for the vanilla ROM locations, and instructions on how to use them.
I made the decision to pull the over-the-air updater from TnT Lite, with the first release. From a security standpoint, phoning home in the clear with my mac address is a terrible idea. If Apple or MS did this, for example, the tech blogs would eat them alive. We usually grab the firmware updates pretty fast and post them. ie. the latest one is already posted.
Sorry for the newb question, but a search came up empty. Should I choose Vegan over TNT lite, is the install procedure the same? I see the step-by-step install guide for TNT lite, but wonder if Vegan requires different steps.
Thanks in advance!!!

If you install clockwork recovery you can easily try all the roms I have been using the vegan b3 release I like it but I use dolphin HD and skyfire browsers I don't like the native browser. Also I have used the tnt roms they are good too but as of lately really like vegan rom also if you back up your rom after you install you can compare stock vs custom. vegan roms download to PC drag to SD card rename update (at least on my vista PC) boot into recovery select apply update.zip and your good to go
What size SD card is required to fash with. I just picked up a GTablet for my wife for Christmas and want it running as flawless as possible before giving it to her.

Any as long as it can fit the 100MB+ Rom. The micro SD is used incase you screw up an need to reflash to stock. This happened to me, the external memory helped me fix it.
Oh and thank you Roebeet for your hardworking on the roms you and everyone/anyone that helped you make this device incredible!
So the TnT lite rom is 100mb?

HELP!!! I have G-tablet and other than thisssss stcok...I have rooted and installed clockmodwork, gapps and have full market... and i can install gapps and sync'ed to my google account but I get a forced close error when open contacts aor calendar. I tried to open acontact from the market...I can view the contact but when i tap to see the info i get a forced close error. Contacts( process com.tapntap.contacts)
Same for calendar...I thinks this this happen after I have sunk with google...not sure..
Please really stuck!
The stock firmware is extremely buggy and users were seeing all kinds of FCs with it. Your best bet if you want to stay "stock" would be to follow the instructions in this post.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=885940
Otherwise, I would really recommend switching to the latest TnT or VEGAn roms.
what would you suggest for ROM? Vegan or TNT??? what are the pro's and con's?
Thanks again...I am still new at this OS

Install Clockwork recovery and then check out all of them. Switching roms only takes a few minutes and if you make a backup first then it's easy to go back. Each rom is slightly different and tastes vary.

[Q] Question about going back from TnT 5.0x to other custom ROM

I installed TnT 5.0.1 on my gTablet, and it's running like a charm. However, I would like to install Vegan-Tab 5.1.1 (or some other ones using ClockworkMod 0.8) and try a few things out. One of the caveats that Roebeet put in his TnT post is:
<quote>
- Also for 5.x.x users, flipping between mods will be more difficult, since 5.x.x changes the bootloader. To go to VEGAn, gADAM or any of the other mods will require an nvflash back to bekits 1105 image first, at least via the testing I've done.
</quote>
I have nvflashed the gTablet before when I accidentally semi-bricked it, so that's not the issue. (In fact, I found a rar somewhere with all required files in it---awesome!) My question is whether there is a way for me to make a full backup of my ROM (so TnT 5.0.1 with all apps and settings), so I can revert back to it should I choose to. Or is the only way for me to reinstall TnT 5.0.x fresh and then reinstall all apps (or restore them from Titanium backups)?
(I'm new to the Android world, so I apologize if there is an easy, obvious answer to this question.)
Thanks!
Ron
dutch_in_seattle,
As an early "nearly-bricker", I have been following 5.0.0 and 5.0.1 almost since the
beginning and have been trying to do all I can to help folks with problems. I also
have been trying to provide roebeet with material to help.
If I understand it well -- what roebeet has been saying is that the "3991"/5.0.0 stuff represents kind of a new generation and setup for the G-Tablet. It is the moving from the older generation to the newer that has caused all the problems.
The problems are that some of the underlying files have changed to newer versions and if you don't go to 3588 "completely stock" before going "up" -- you will have trouble jumping the gap!
I'm going to extrapolate from that -- that you should be careful going down too. If you are at 3991/5.0.x and want to go down, I would reload 3588 to make sure you
get a fully stock system with the older generation files -- and then I would install whatever old-generation rom you wish.
This is the best suggestion I can make based on several times up the system (with a couple of regressions nfflashing down for repairs!).
Good luck. Let us know how it goes.
Rev
EDIT: Thinking about it, I don't see anything wrong with my suggestion. But the quote with roebeet's comment to "nvflash back to bekits stock recovery version" probably
does add another layer of protection to the process. He certainly is more expert than me by far!
I've used nvflash before, so it's not so much that I'm worried I can't go back to Vegan-Tab or a different "older-generation" ROM. What I would like to do before going back is do a full system backup of TnT 5.0.1, with all my settings and apps, so I can easily revert to that Android environment if and when I want to, rather than having to reinstall TnT 5.x and then set up my environment again. I would normally restore using ClockworkMod, but you can't use this for TnT 5.x and I don't believe the new recovery mode has a restore option (but I could be wrong there).
Ron
I'm thinking you should be able to do a backup with the new clockwork recovery required for tnt, nvflash and start over with a new rom, then when you want to go back install tnt and the new clockwork from scratch and do a recovery from that point.

[Q] Just Rooted.. App ideas?

I just rooted my phone and I was wondering what are some good apps that I should get to help with the phone and to remove the bloatware on this bad boy.. Also, what Bloatware can be removed and what should be left alone? Thanks!
You should search.
You'll get that response ALOT around here.
The absolute first app to get is Titanium Backup. The free version will get you started. The Pro version will cost you about $6.
Second would be Root Explorer. It's under $4.
With Titanium Backup, you can "freeze" an app. It's similar to uninstalling an app, without really uninstalling it.
There's a list of apps that can be removed/deleted/uninstalled without causing instability floating around here somewhere. Alot of us just flash a custom ROM with most of the junk removed.
If you want to get into the custom ROM flashing, then you'll need to install a custom recovery. I just came across this, which makes it easier: One-Click ClockworkMod 3.1.0.1 Flasher
Before you flash or install anything, understand that (since you are a newb) you can possible brick your device.
It is your responsibility to read everything, and read it again. Take notes. Bookmark topics of interest.
I've had my G2x for just over a month, and have already flashed every compatible ROM & kernel, and tweaked and modded my device to yield me the best battery life while also packing some fun stable speed.
If you do something wrong, search these threads. Someone else already f*cked up before you and they were able to fix it.
Good luck. and have fun! Welcome to the forums!

Looking for a guide to installing a custom ROM

I have a GEM-703L. Admittedly, I am a little intimidated by the process of installing a new rom, let alone, the chinese language on my phone if I were to have to restore to default. Is there a guide anywhere that I can follow through the whole process from stock phone to installing the custom rom? I am hoping for a more Nexus like phone experience. I was excited when I saw the simply google rom, but shied away from doing it after I saw it was no longer being updated. Ultimately I just want to get rid of all the chinese apps and be able to choose my own default browser.
Thanks for any help.
