Just fyi .... checked for update and it came back I am uptown date or something like that. When I checked yesterday it was still erroring out so at least its something.

Ditto - plus checked this AM.
Same here. Only the first week or so after 4/20 did mine say server error. I've consistently gotten the "you have the latest update" message since at least 5/1.

I am rooted with different recovery and get the "you have the latest..." message. I initially got the response you did - how long have you had the phone? It may be that TMo does not have your IMEI number set up on your account.
Don't worry - as soon as it is out - there most likely will be a flashable rooted version posted very soon thereafter.
Oh man... I think we are jumping the gun a bit... It will be at least a couple days, probably more... A LOT more...

they should have an f5 button for updates for our phones but then it would be long lines at the tmobile store with people saying i wore out my f5 button pressing it too much and do you also have a brace for my fingers.

Samsung firmware world. Google it. Not on samsung website. Its not an official release yet. And it does not fix gps. It helps a little but really not worth it. Just be patient and wait till september when it becomes official. That's probably your best bet. I am running it currently and not impressed really, plus there are issues with apps missing after updating.

True i almost pissed my pants the first time i saw it LOL.
End of September could not come any sooner. Its really frustrating when im on the highway and the phone is telling me im on some side street and not on the highway....damn thing wont shut up.

I really don't know what the fuss is about. i don't use my gps that much but i did the quick gps fix and it seems to work fine. it finds me in seconds and locks in. i don't lose the signal anything. I think maybe setting are not set correctly. who knows who cares. no need gps. google maps is just fine for me to look up stuff. I just want Froyo. It be so nice. For now stock android is fine too.
Edit: Try this new firmware just released this morning. Maybe there is a fiix. I haven't flashed it yet. I phone is all mummy-fied. Just applied the phantom-skinz and wrapped it with white tape. I will try it later this evening though. I want to know what is new on the new rom.

UPDATE: We’re now receiving word that it may be another 1-2 weeks before we see Gingerbread on the G2x. No word on whether this was a delay or whether our original rumor was incorrect. We’ll keep you updated.

june 15th thats what tech support told me she also said if u have a task killer to temporarily remove it??? so the update comes thru then she said make sure ur battery is over 50 percent charged and make sure u have enough memory......so we will see but she said its def rolling out and that a few of her coworkers got to try it and it was nice, and its just 2.3 not 2.4

That was inaccurate info. There has been no beta testing for "select" tmo users. One person posted a fake email to some tech blogs and they ran with it like a bunch of saps. The tmo one s will be updated and sooner rather than later, but there was no beta/soak test for members of the public. It is, of course, in internal beta testing at tmo, but for employees only. At least that's what I was told through HTC Elevate.

and what exactly is wrong with ICS? From what I keep reading all the bugs on the new update make it not worth updating so I don't see why you need the latest and greatest. But to each their own.

I have no idea what this update is, but my buddy was playing with his ATt S4 and went to check for a update and there was one. It waslike 26 or 27mb so it was small.

According to most sources this update has zero affect on that part of the system. This is supposed to be strictly performance.

Okay so how do we know if it is safe to apply this update? I would like to fix some lag but in no way harm my chances of unlocking the bootloader.
Can someone pull the update file and examine it?

There's no way to know until someone like Adam or Dan start looking it over. Gonna have to give them at least a day or two too get the update and dissect it.
Ultimately only Dan is gonna be able to tell us for sure, which I'm sure he will in the coming days, in the mean time just chill, the OTA isn't gonna go anywhere XD

Well, update went through. Lag seems less significant. A few hiccups here and there, but it seems to be better. Less hiccups than before, at least.
Facebook and IGN apps scroll more smoothly as well. Opening and closing is a bit snappier. Been trying to open and minimize a bunch of apps to induce a hiccup, it's not doing it. Swiftkey is also opening more smoothly (well, instantaneously). Overall seems better. I'm content.

If you were rooted before can you see if you are still rooted
It also seems that the camera "lag" is gone or is less dramatic too.

GAH, it just started updating without any conformation once I clicked "check for updates"
KEEP THAT IN MIND! simply checking for an update will download it!
EDIT: okay thank god it didn't install the update... just downloaded it.... phew...
