Is there any way to modify the Power control widget that comes stock with the Sprint Samsung Nexus S? If there is a way to modify the current stock app, I would love to.
Otherwise I have heard that wigetsoid and power control plus work well.
yes there is.but first try searching XDA for people that already did
I have. But I am obviously not search for the right thing.

It's not really modifying the Power Control widget, but Extended Controls works out to the same thing. It looks and acts exactly like the stock widget, but allows one to add additional toggles (such as reboot, wireless hotspot, etc.) or to remove unwanted ones (for example, to prevent the possibility of accidentally pressing something).
Why don't you just root?
Keep the stock ROM if you wish (but it would be a waste) and flash a modified SystemUI.apk
OP, it would probably help if you could tell us what your goals are in modifying widget. For example, there may be some easy way of doing what you want, or it may not be possible via modding the widget.
So what I want to do is change some of the buttons like the auto dim. I also want to add a button for 4g. Mute would also be a nice replacement for a button or two.
Rooting it? Yea I could do that. But rather not. Not sure if I am going to keep this phone or not. Dont want to waste the time to odin it back to stock.

You could always make a Nandroid backup before you root.

I realize that trackball wake is a system level change but I would like to have an app that still uses the original lockscreen but simply allows the nexus one to be woken with the trackball. Nothing fancy. This would be something that I would think would be popular with alot of phones if done simple and doesn't become a battery hog. All lockscreen replacement apps utilize this feature so it should be usable on froyo. Hopefully someone can whip up something for us missing trackball wake. Thanks.
well, cyanogen has this built in. though if you want froyo, your not going to be using cyanogen yet.

Yeah I know but im thinking its possible to use the stock lockscreen still. It may run smoother that way. And @neok, yes it would be for froyo or ANY phone and/or rom. And truthfully, I may not use it once the real trackball wake gets updated but I would know where to go once the next update breaks trackball wake again. Ya know?
Shameless bump. Any devs out there want to chime in?
+1 to this.
+1 for this
Did you try No Lock ?
There's an app that does exactly what you said, "lockbot 2.0"
I am assuming u mean lockbot free and pro. Its alright, still a little buggy and its not the true original lockscreen. Its still a replacement afaik. The simpler the better I think. Anybody want to drop in to let us know if its possible or not?
Have you tried Widget Locker? It's what I've been using until CM6 comes out...
Widget Locker does not work well. It's slow to respond or just doesn't work at all most of the time (on Froyo at least).
what exactly is wrong with using No Lock for this? it lets you use the trackball to wake the phone in froyo.

Yes, but some of us don't want to wake the device to the homescreen. I prefer wake to the lockscreen, then taking a quick glance to see alerts and time. If I feel like unlocking then I can, if not just put the phone away. I've found "mylock" is a decent workaround for now, though not quite to my liking. Same with flyscreen, with all Widgets and updating turned off

Try this for now. My lock and another freebie widget called No Lock. When using advanced mode of My Lock And the No Lock widget set for locked, power button only will wake to the lock screen. Trackball is disabled. I use this when listening to music with phone in pocket when walking/working out. This way trackball doesn't wake the phone display. With No Lock widget set for unlocked, locking is disabled, so pushing any physical key/trackball wakes to home screen. This works for me till we get get trackball wake working.
this would be a cool app!
Any updates on this thread?
ok i been looking everywhere and cant find out how to remove the lockscreen files so it doesnt show up... i installed a lockscreen app (go locker) and once in a while it will make me have to unlock both lockscreens the defualt and the go locker.. and its really anoying and i just want to get rid of the original but apps loke no lock dont work they didnt help at all... i am rooted and am willing to do terminal commands if there are any for this... thank you for any help you guys offer...
Are you running a Rom with tsm parts?
no its a stock rooted debloated deodexed rom... i dont like a lot of the tsm features so i didnt care to have it... if i need it to do this then is there a zip that will install it for me??
I would love to know how to remove it as well
I remember seeing something about codes you can punch into the dialer to duo such a thing. I can't seem to locate the link right now though

Maybe try this and once started install your lock screen?
Lockscreen: Agile Lock(has a free & paid version; paid is $1) - I would HIGHLY recommend this lockscreen for anyone who doesn't like the AOSP/Puzzle/Glass or just wants to use the HTC sense lockscreen(you know, the ring that has shortcuts and such). If you do choose this route you would need to follow the Androidcentral guide(http://forums.androidcentral.com/dro...en-charge.html) to remove your current lockscreen because all this app does is add a second lock to your phone, so you would need to unlock your phone twice if you want to get in. Before you do that BE WARNED this removes not only your lockscreen but your power button menu as well(you know, when you hold the power button to restart and boot into recovery). Instead it just powers your phone off, you can always re-enable your lockscreen very easily using the same guide so there's nothing to fear. This app has TONS of customization and is far superior to the zero customization the AOSP/stock locks have. I'd say the only issue this app has is the fact that you can't go to silent/sound like you can with the AOSP. Added picture(s).
Got that from here.

I do not know is this is the same link as posted above, but this works, the only problem I have is that if you hold the power button to long it turns you phone off. Takes so getting used to, but the lock screen is history after you do this.
Entering that dialer code is one of the first things I do after flashing any ROM.
That works with ANY ROM & completely eliminates the totally useless annoying unlock screen.
Like the previous poster mentioned, it does take a little getting used to so you don't accidentally turn the phone off with the power button by holding it down too long.

Hey guys...I know Playin4Sheezy has been busy doing tons of stuff and he thought of starting a thread about "What would we want in a rom" thread for him to possibly incorporate into his masterpiece. I will add to the OP with good ideas that are possible to implement this life time:
1) Power off menu with screen capture, reboot, recovery etc
2) Adjustable status bar buttons (wifi hotspot, disable lockscreen)
3) Wake on Vol +/-
4) GB or rotary lockscreen
5) Battery % option like CM7 95II <--- Battery % next to bar
reserved for Playin4Sheezy---
What would I want? Thats easy .. nice stable rom with no issues.. lte lights and icons must work and have performance tweaks..
Flash it and make it perform better and not worse.
LOL, that's the point of building roms and testing them out. He finds what works and what doesn't by our feedback. If you want stock....stay stock. Also, BLN notifications are enabled by the kernel from Da_G.
Here this is what i would like if possible!

Lol what is it you consider nice and stable? I haven't had a single issue besides the lte icons which I can't test for accuracy due to lack of lte. The icons will be fixed as I have someone with lte testing for me. But besides that, what issues are you having?

Customizable pull-down toggles. Let me add what I want in there and sort them my way. How many people really need "Airplane Mode" at a quick glance.
I like my pull-down to be skimpy and to the point. Not cluttered with items I may click once a week or so at the most.
GSII LTE Boot animation without any sound (like it is now).
Get rid of the glowy "Samsung" letters during boot. It just looks dorky.
Customizable profiles with shortcuts to turn each on/off.
Capacitive buttons lit 100% of time so phone can be easily used in landscape mode in dark car when docked.
Audio-out in dock mode through 3.5mm jack to OEM Samsung Car Dock.
NFC working (I think it might already be?).
Color icons in settings menu.
ICS theme everywhere else.
Large button keyboard.
I use Go Launcher for my launcher and Widgetlocker for my lock screen, so no need to customize those two items.
Continue to provide update packages instead of full ROM's so we don't have to comletely wipe things out when you provide updates. This is a great idea you have there.
Based on 2.3.6.
If I could request something, it would be for :
1)a Vanilla Android. No TOUCHWIZ, no bloats whether from Rogers or AT&T.
2) If its an add on to stock TW, definitely have a tweak that doesn't force connection to 4G (3.5g) or LTE all the time. Only unless data transfer is being used like browsing in order to help conserve some battery, Battery %, control toggles, advanced power button options (reboot, shutdown, recovery), jkay tweaks, BLN (need supporting kernel), hardware acceleration.

I'd like the following:
Disable boot/shutdown sounds
Remove power off confirmation (why a two step power off?)
Remove the vibration icon on notification bar
Remove Full Charged Notification Icon, Sound and Screen On
CRT screen off animation
Extended power menu (reboot/recovery/download etc)
Lock screen choices (I like rotary lock screen)
Hacked Camera, power button acts as shutter release
CALL RECORDING
No CIQ
And of course all the mandatory stuff like Deodexed, Zipaligned, Rooted Remove AT&T bloatware etc etc....

AWESOME! Can't wait.
Do you think you'll be able to get call recording working? I loved it with my Captivate running Continuum 4.1 but apparently it doesn't work so easily with 2.3 GB roms. ??
There are a number of cool settings we can grab out of tmo roms (rom control, miui battery meter) All with dev permission/credit of course
My problem right now is there exists not one "total package" rom of all roms...and it CAN exist. Every request listed exists somewhere...it is just going to take some work getting it in one package
It is something i have been working on but have not really had time to mess with. I am a total newb at this dev stuff. even when that "perfect" rom is developed...I am going to need a kernel to go with.
Btw...i am in an lte area ...so if you need lte specific testing just let me know

I remember shortly after getting my Nexus 5 that I noticed a hand icon in quick settings for do not disturb setting..
I went to use it the other day and it had disappeared. I had unlocked and rooted and also flashing custom kernel.
So as I couldn't find any setting to re enable, and suspecting it might have been something I had done, I downloaded Google nexus 5 image and reflashed to stock, but still no joy .
Any advice ?

I don't remember seeing anything like this, as I recall. But I am disappointed that the Quick Settings are not really all that quick. Tapping things like Bluetooth or Wifi takes you to the full settings page for that feature instead of simply toggling it on and off as I usually am trying to do.

If you hold the icon instead of clicking it, it turns on the radio. For example, pressing WiFi takes you to the WiFi settings page, but long holding the icon will just turn it on. Same for BT.
As for the Do not Disturb, I've never seen that. I know iOS has it...and I'm sure there are Google Play apps to do something similar, but Android doesnt have that stock.
Sadly it doesn't exist in stock android. They really have to add that. Every other platform has it except stock android.
EDIT: Yes, I know touchwiz and sense have it.

Thanks. It makes me wonder though how the "average" person is ever supposed to learn little things like this -- certainly not intuitive IMO.
Mystery solved, just realised that I had switched back to my HTC One with a leaked version of sense 5.5

I found that you can press the power button and from that menu you can set the volume to vibrate or mute. Not sure if this is what you were looking for.
Thankfully custom ROMs will be here soon (in more complete/stable forms) to make all of these annoying issues better. Stock Android lacks some seriously useful little touches, but that's why we got unlocked devices....

1)Will it be possible to keep the stock setup and simply move around my nav bar buttons? i like the back button on the right, for example. can i do this simply and without rooting or any of that?
2)Will Developer settings be available, also without rooting? I need this for back to kill (regardless of what you think, yes, i still need to activate back to kill lol).
this will be the first android i haven't rooted and flashed! thanks for your input.
yes i'm sure as des get the phone, these mods will all come up.
Yes, you will still likely need root to be able to get back to kill as I'm relatively sure it's not going to be native to the Google UI unfortunately. Don't know why Google doesn't incorporate some of the most useful and convenient features from community devs.
I know Android is supposed to be pure, blah blah blah, but to me that's like saying here's your pure car. You get 4 wheels, a chassis, body, engine and steering wheel. Then some guy has to come along and invent windows, then improve on that by making them roll down. The next guy makes them power windows, etc. ?
