Weird video problem - Nexus S Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I uploaded a bunch of MPG4 videos onto my Nexus S in a file I named "video" under Media files.
I downloaded Mobo player and I was able to view the videos. Then after a while, my MPG4 were gone but in USB storage, the available space didn't change.
Where has all the videos gone

Limbo? Nah, just kidding. I think the files just got hidden. Happened to me on Miui. Installed apps, did something then rebooted and it disappeared. When I tried installing again, it seems that they were still there as i got a prompt to "reinstall" instead of just "install"

I reinstalled mobo player; still nothing.

Windows Media no longer play videos after update

Hi, I just upgraded to 6.1 and ran it for a week or so.
I just notice yesterday that after upgrade, WMP won't play MOST of my videos anymore. I have like 50+ clips on storage card, and WMP only plays maybe five or six of them. I browsed the video folder using "pictures and videos" and only those five or six showed up.
What's the cause of this? I tried rebuilding my library but that does not work. This problem does not occur when I upgrade from WM 5 to WM 6.
do the files still exist on the card, but not the media player/ or does the card not have the files any more/ or have the files become corupt (possibly flashed with the card installed)
I ususaly use a different player for vids because WMP does not support a lot of codecs.
Look for TCPMP on google. that will play almost anything, and you can install codecs for it.
the files exist on the storage card, even the movies list showed up in WMP's library (50+ videos in WMP library).
but when I click on play, wmp keep skipping to the next track, something like it recognizes the file type, but cannot play the file (as weird as it sounds, that's what happen) . Some videos still played ok though (5 or 6 out of 50+).
When I opened the video on WMP on previous ROM (WM 6) they all played ok.
The OEM packages used by some to cook ROM's are missing either files or registry settings. I use an OEMAPPS package that includes all the related files and registry settings from the AKU 3.3 T-Mobile ROM, Lockstream DRM files and registry settings excluded. I don't know exactly what needs to be fixed, but it's one of those two things.

Clear music from "Music" tab library?

I'm one of the few people who actually like the Music tab's interface (using the zoom to scan a song is very nice, IMO) but I have a question about removing songs from the library...
I deleted the stock songs from my device and now, when I go to the music tab, I get the 'searching...' message and, when I go to library, all the old songs are still there, but with exclamation marks rather than album art.
I went to WMP and deleted all the songs in the 'My Music' list, so I know the two aren't tied together.
Edit:
Also, I've added a bunch of music in a folder I created (Storage Card>My Documents>My Music) and neither WMP or the Music tab see this folder. Where do I put music on the storage card so the media players will see them?
Try Deleting the AudioManager.vol file in \Application Data\HTC\AudioManager_Eng. That should force AudioManager to re-search your device for Music (you'll need to disable TF3D and make sure Audio Manager isn't running in the background to delete the file. You also may need to use Total Commander or Resco, however selecting "Show all Files" in File Explorer may also work).
I personally haven't tested it by deleting any files first, but I don't see why it shouldn't work (though you did indicate it shows "Searching" everytime you go to the tab, so this may not work). It's something to try, at any rate.

That didn't work. The deleted songs still show up and it still doesn't see the new songs. You figure they'd want these devices to be user friendly and make it easy to copy your music onto it. Or remove songs you don't want.

I have my Music in \Storage Card\Music (because that's where Windows Media puts them by default when you sync it), and I've never had any problems with AudioManager finding my Music. Perhaps you should elaborate on your setup, ROM-wise.
Stock ROM. Just got the phone a week ago. The songs I'm trying to load are .mp3. I've tried putting the songs on the device directly in the /Music folder, I've also tried /My Documents/Music, /My Documents/My Music (both on the device and on the storage card). The MP3s will play, if I pull them up in TC or File Manager.
I've tried copying the 'Dogbark.wav' file to the storage card (/My Documents) and WMP has no problem finding THAT file. I was thinking it might be a file name issue, but I've tried renaming one of the mp3s to something as simple as one letter and it STILL isn't seen.
Do you NEED to sync it with Windows Media Player? (This is a bit of a problem, as I use linux and don't have ready access to a Windows machine.)

No, you shouldn't need to. I'm really not sure why it wouldn't be working.
What Carrier are you on? What location? There may be a ROM update floating around somewhere that will solve your problem.
I'm with AT&T in Florida. I'd like to avoid a ROM flash, if possible...

I don't know if that's possible, unfortunately. I'd actually suggest a hard reset to see if that fixes the issue. If you're going to do that, you may as well update to the new AT&T ROM. I, unfortunately don't have any other suggestions for you.
Actually, the only other thing I can think of is that it's an issue with your SD card, but that wouldn't explain why AudioManager won't update.
go to the music tab, bottom left softkey "library", slide over to "all songs", and play something on your phone. it should clear off all old songs and the new ones.
I actually found the solution on the AT&T support forums. (HOLY CRAP! Useful information was ACTUALLY found there for once!)
Two words:
Soft reset.
Don't know why I didn't try it sooner.

The problem I was having, Jack, was that the music player wasn't detecting any of the new songs I had on the phone. 'All Songs' was blank, because I had deleted all the songs that were included with the device and it just wasn't seeing the new ones. At least not until I did a soft reset.

I assumed you'd tried that. That's usually the first thing everyone tries, so I didn't even bother suggesting it. Glad you got it working.
i dont like to restart the phone. it takes a really long time to boot up. it always finds the songs with the way i listed. i even have all my album art.

Xvid playback using built-in player

I did some searching, but all the posts appear to be older, and are discussing downloaded players. At work, we all have Droid Xs. My boss, recently reset his, and was working on downloading some video players. We download a lot of xvid files, and he wanted to be able to play them. Well, it appears one of his downloads has updated the built-in player to play xvid. The reason I think this is because after he dumped about 20 videos on there for transport, most...about 16 of them, had thumbnails in the gallery. I tried playing one, and loads directly up, and even has the little HDMI icon in the top corner. I went through the players he downloaded, and none of those appear to have the HDMI option. I've been trying to figure this out so that I can replicate it.
Has anyone else done this? I don't have the phone in front of me, but I know he got arcmedia and youplayer. I'm not sure what else, but I figure you guys may have some ideas.
I guess I've stumped the minds here. Thanks for looking.
UPDATE:
I just checked my phone, and now I'm able to playback one of the files. The strange part is that after seeing it happen on his phone, I copied the same file to mine, and couldn't play it. Gave the usual unsupported error. But today, I look at my phone, and there's a thumbnail of the video in the gallery. I click on it, and it starts playing, with the little HDMI option in the corner. WTF is going on here? I still have one file that won't play that I put on there. Does the built-in player support Xvid with certain options enabled/disabled?

[Q] What is Wrong with My Music and Video Player?

Sorry if this was maybe supposed to be posted in another forum or thread.
Flashed with ZEUS 6, I went to listen to some songs of mine, and all the songs were blank: the song and album titles weren't there. When I pressed one of the blank songs, I got: "Sorry, the player does not support this type of audio file," but the player showed the name of the song. I scrolled down and saw only three playable songs with the titles and album art listed. I went to My Files and was able to play the .mp3's there, though, for some reason. Recorded video just said, "Unsupported file type." I Google'd around as much as I could, but all of the solutions didn't go pass deleting a Twitter app, something I never downloaded or had. I think it might've had something to do with uninstalling BetterBatteryStats, but I'm unsure. I'm not sure if it's something I did or the ROM, which has been pretty buggy ever since I flashed it. I rebooted the phone already, a bunch of times, and it seems like the only option I have is to flash back to stock, unless there's another solution. This started happening today.
Extra details:
All the songs are on an external SD card.
iTag and Google music also only listed those 3 songs, but PowerAmp was able to list and play them fine (I downloaded it to see if it wouldn't play those songs).
Unable to record or play recorded videos.
EDIT: I fixed the music problem. As it turns out there was something called a .nomedia file on my SD card. I deleted it, but I still can't record or play recorded videos.

Folder Lock Advanced App issue

hi all,
i installed an app named folder lock advanced from google play store to secure my media files. after installing it i added my media files in it after which it got encrypted and i was able to access my files only through that app...it was all good.
but the issue i have is that...when i first installed it and started adding my videos it added only few of them and left the rest...so i uninstalled it at once and reinstalled it again.
when i uninstalled it the video files which added at first got encrypted while the others weren't.
i reinstalled the app again and added media files again and this time the remaining videos only got added to it...the encrypted videos were left out...
i looked in some forums on how to run encrypted video files and renamed the file with .mp4 extension/ .3gpp extension and tried to run the file...but my video player says " cant run the file".
since i got pissed off real bad because of this chaos...i uninstalled the app again...now all my video files are encrypted because of it...i cant run the video file even if i rename it with an extension of mp4/3gpp.
In my SD card i got a folder named Folder Lock Advanced in which there are two sub folders. one folder has thumbnails of all the videos while the other had the videos in encrypted format.
please help me to fix this issue.
thanks in advance !:fingers-crossed:
