So... this took me forever searching online and such to find out how to get my stupid USB drives working on Ubuntu that I'm loading on VirtualBox (Mac OSX host).. I installed the extension for VirtualBox and enabled the USB stuff in settings and thennnnnnn the part I was missing was you just have to eject the drives from the Mac so that Ubuntu on the VirtualBox has a chance (?) to access the USB drives... Such a simple fix for such a drive me INSANE problem!

Is the Captivate not able to see the Captivate when it is plugged into the computer? I have windows 7 running via VM Ware on my Mac, Because that is all I have, and it won't see the phone. I want to use the Odin Stock restore but if it won't recognize my phone I guess I can't use it.
Chris
What version of vmware? Not sure on the mac, but is there an option for it to pass usb through to the vm? Did you install the drivers in the win7 vm for the captivate? More details would be helpful.
Yeah I installed the drivers on win 7 in VMWare, Its on a mac. Its VMWare Fusion3. When I plug it in my Comp asks me would you like to mount in OSX or windows and I click Windows and it just won't mount. So if I try it with debugging mode on It will mount onto the Mac no matter if I select OSX or windows. So i'm just wondering if the samsung USB can't connect through VMWare.
do you have the android sdk installed on your Win 7 VM?
The reason I ask is because you could run "adb devices" in a command prompt on the vm to see if the VM is seeing the device at all.
it sounds like it may be a bit easier to just boot camp your mac if you have access to you windows 7 disk, just create a small partition that you can go back to in times of need
Hi, I want to got a windows tool works on ubuntu 9.10. It's used to communicate with the modem of my android phone. So I decided to use it via wine. But the tool just said it can't find usb port. What should I do? BTW, my android phone start up with two modes. When connector was plugged in, just the modem was power on, so it was detected to be a usb-serial device on windows. And if power on the phone, it was detected to be usb device on windows. Any ideas to support these two modes on ubuntu via wine?
Thanks a lot!
When I plug my TF into my laptop I get no prompt to install adb driver nor does anything show up in device manager except for it being a portable drive.
IT all works fine on my desktop and i'm able to adb into it.
Both machines are win7 64bit. Any ideas?
Hi guys, I am trying to get the net install Ubuntu onto my sbk2 device. I'm having trouble finding a program to do this on windows. I would really not want to have to setup a dual boot linux / windows on my desktop instead saving that as a last alternative..... Any help would be much appreciated.
You could install linux to a usb stick and boot from there. Insert your 4GB+ usb stick and run the live cd/usb. You should have an option to install to the usb and be sure to install grub tto the usb stick, not your primary hard drive.
My recommendation would be to skip the windows dual boot and just install linux!
More and more as time goes by I am having a worse time creating bootable USB disks from various iso's on linux. I think this is relevant to xda because there are those of us who don't have windows machines readily available. There are tons of tutorials out there for creating bootable usb windows installers from linux and bootable usb linux installers from linux.
But specifically the areas where I have lately had no choice to wait until I could find a windows machine that I could use rufus on are the ones I think would be beneficial.
Having to resort to using rufus on windows is embarrassing being a linux guy.
Specifically these are the cases where I can no longer find the magic to create a bootable USB from the linux side:
Phoenix OS iso -> USB installer
Remix OS iso -> USB installer
Vmware ESXi iso -> USB installer
Again, creating windows or linux installers works, but those above have just gotten infuriating. Anyone able to help?
Thanks
