how do i get android market onto my phone

You go back and read the first post of the cm7 thread, then you read the first page of the q&a. Then repeat till you could do it in your sleep. Please know what you are doing before you do it. Flashing your phone is not a simple thing.

soft brick after flashing kernel on tmobile sidekick 4g

i rooted my friends sidekick 4g and he bricked it. i am trying to help him fix it. i am new to forums so if you let me know what info you need i will gladly post it. i do know he tried flashing the kernel and when it finished it wont go past logo screen. i can get to cwm recovery but it wont install recovery ... some kind of error... he used voodoo and tried to flash bali...i think that was it ...i just want to go back stock
I assume you used an incompatible version of the kernel for your ROM. And there's a known problem with getting clockwork set up right. Anyway, you can restore it all the way back to stock by using Odin. Then you can try again or leave it alone.
do i have to download something to do this
if so could you post a link and thanks for the quick reply
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1350060
i tried the program in the link and it is asking for drivers that i dont have...and i cant seem to find them
I believe there are a set of USB drivers on the Samsung website.
Ok yea i knew that... i was under the impression hemidall drivers were different.

Root Help

Hey everyone.
Im generally pretty savvy with androids. I rooted and S-offed my HTC Desire, I had a nexus S for a bit until it got ran over... Now im stuck with this Galaxy S 4G, which has been nothing but headaches because for some reason... this thing is impossible to root to me. Ive tried Hemidall, Super1clicks, Odin etc..
Can someone please just point me in the direction of rooting this POS? Im hoping that once its rooted and running stock, I wont hate this thing as much... because so far, Its a horrible purchase.
I just need someone to post a link to where I need to be. Ive searched.. and im absolutely lost. Even the Rootz wiki was useless to me.
Thanks.

Read that then understand what bhundven means by DONT FLASH BOOTLOADERS!!
You can use the heimdall one clicks he created to get root access and then flash any rom that DOESNT HAVE BOOTLOADERS INCLUDED. That means do not use gremlin remover period. Once you get rooted make a backup and keep it stored in as many places as possible. If you flash the ics variants you will have to use the stock kj6 HOC and then need to flash the HOC for antonx kernel to get root back. At that point you can flash your nandroid or whatever rom you want. AGAIN AS LONG AS IT DOESNT HAVE BOOTLOADERS included.

I have no idea what youre talking about. Sorry
I used the Hemidall, and only got an unrooted Tmobile rom.. Im not sure where exactly i get root from this
Meh, forget it... im selling this phone. There is no convincing me to ever buy anything from Sammy again unless its a Nexus line.
HTC or Nexus forever.
Thanks guys
Reading is hard
"Can I get step by step directions please?"
Sure, here you are!
"What?! Your not going to remotely root my phone for me? F this place"
Good luck sir, you have the patience of a saint and the drive of a tiger!
OK let's be honest you gave up kinda quick.......
The forum that eollie linked you to was a forum talking about the phone that you bought, which is an apparent offshoot of the t-959v and according to what Masonite found out, "our" roms work on the t-959w but you cannot flash the bootloaders.
Here is the one click link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1358498 just boot into download mode and use this but absolutely don't flash bootloaders and it should be OK, no promises.
Eollie was right for linking you there, all the info you needed about your model phone was on that forum, that one click is in the dev sticky which everybody should read.
There has been a flood of people not researching a little bit first before posting and that's why people flamed you but you should not give up, its a good phone and our devs are dedicated and have put in a lot of time on this model, you should be happy your phone can even support all the great roms that are available.
I'm not being mean but seriously, come on, all the info is there, no need to get mad.

Edit: or Google search how to use heimdall if your confused, I learn off a damn YouTube video..........
Our devs didn't create heimdall and don't support it but it is a great program and the dev has to build the individual one click for the phone, we should be happy to have it that easily available.
Reading the whole thread you got linked to is really hard. Phone-bricking hard

You'll need to flash one of the back to stock files that you got linked to in that thread which will put you on stock GB with no root. DO NOT FLASH THE BOOTLOADERS. You'll very likely brick if you do.
After this download the AntonX kernel from bhundven's one click thread and flash that. That will give you a custom kernel with CWM built in and root.
Needless to say, this is all for the SGH-T959V which theoretically should work on the SGH-T959W. As you'll read any disclaimer on this forum, you're resposible for anything you flash and the damage that may occur to your device.
Thanks for that fb I forgot a few steps if he wants to be on mtd roms, I assumed he could read from that point............ but your right for knowing better

Thank you very much, and I'm sorry for getting angry. I've had this phone for almost 4 months now, and haven't been able to do anything with it. Quite frustrating.
So, I currently have the Tmobile ROM on my phone, so I'm halfway there it appears!
I'm going to download the other ROM as soon as I get home.
Thanks so much! Next up.. Learning to flash with Odin, and not ROM manager.
It seemed like everything I tried wasn't working with 2.3.6. Superoneclick etc.
I was waiting for a new exploit, but it never came. I tried YouTube tutorials, text directions.. Everything would fail, or give me "read only" errors. I feared bricking, so I stopped.. But I searched the forum and came across the thread he linked me to, but it said no bootloaders, and all the ones I saw had bootloaders. Wasn't until tonight that I noticed it's a 2 part flash process, with the second being the bootloaders.
I think I started this thread at 3am.
Lesson learned.
In heimdall, you can click a little box that says "flash bootloaders" to toggle flashing them on and off! .... or maybe it was odin? I can't remember... been a while since I used them!
After being away for the weekend, I came home, and BAM... fully rooted. Amazing! and FINALLY!!!
Thanks everyone for your help...
I just have another issue.
I wanna flash this ROM http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1305145
It says its CWM.. but there is a huge disclaimer that we shouldn't use ROM Manager on the development page, which is a bit confusing. Since this ROM isnt Odin flashable... what do i do?
Thanks again.
So I was confused about this when I first started. I'm not at my computer but I can help. In order to flash Roms via cmw you have to turn off your phone hold both volume rockers on the phone then hold the power button and hold till you get into cwm recovery. That will get you into cmw recovery mode. Then wipe data factory rest, from there go back to the main menu and select the install zip from sd card and find the zip file you want to flash and select it and install. Should be good to go.

Hello SGS4G XDA section! Newbie needs a lot of help!

Hey guys i`ve recently managed to get an SGS 4G Vibrant ( i believe that i am at right place to seek for help ) , i have the T-Mobile version of the phone. I need help switching to different/better ROM, at this moment the phone uses the stock one ( or i believe so ). I`ve been tru the threads and saw that there are a lot of stuff posted about what you need to do/have to flash a rom, but i just cant understand the right order of doing the things.
If its posible can someone really quick just post the steps for the guide for flashing a ROM to the phone. I have previous expiriance with android phone and i am aware how thing go, just as i said i cant get the right order of puting all the thing at one place.
For the phone i used to have was like, first i had to install an stocklike ROM which had recovery, but before that i had to get some kind of software for LG that alowes to flash the rom via download mode. So is the same here? It would be awesome if someone can link or atleast type all the software and other thing i need to have installed to make this work. For now what i have is the USB drivers for Samsung.
Thanks in advance!

Ok, that helped, not sure how i missed it. I am gonna write down what i did so far, so you could see if i messed up something.
I rooted the phone via SuperOneClick 2.2, then i installed the SGS Kernel Flasher, and then flashed the kernel, my current phone was running an 2.3.7 android, so i used the Basic with a Twist`s kernel ( i hope i did it right ), and now the phone rebooted and some different boot screen apiared with some Robotic Chick speeking some stuff, BUT for now the phone load to there, it doesnt wannt to load.
So did i messed up something, or ....
Can you go into recovery by holding Volume Up+Volume Down while pressing the power button and as soon as the SGS 4G splash appears leaving the power button ?
If so and you can see CWM Ver. 5.0... then kernel was successfully flashed.
You shouldn't be getting a bootloop.
What ROM do you want to flash ? If you want to flash GB then I suggest Barebone/Valhalla of some kind.
If you want ICS - Go to the CM 9.1 thread and follow the instructions. After that you may change to AOKP or MIUI or all the rest of the ICS ROMs you wanna try.

I am sorry I do not know how to get you back to where you started before flashing the wrong ROM.
Good luck
Well, it wasnt a bootloop, it just loaded to some point and stoped. Gladly still got the download mode and brought it back to normal to how it was. Thats why i came here to ask, `couse there are too much similiar sgs`s and stuff for them here, i just got confused whats what. Got to start from scratch anyway, at least i didnt bricked it
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=21953587&postcount=1 <---- That's a post by Lumin 30 with a guide on how to get from stock to custom GB. If you want to get to ICS then use CWM 5.0.x.x.

[Q] Infuse 4G LiquidSmooth help

First to all, ahi to everyone here.
My long story short, I've been lurking around this forum all day long. I finally mustered the courage to root my stupid infuse and decided to go with LiquidSmooth.
I come from from 2.3 (original official Gingerbread release) and I was following some steps to root it first (which I managed to do, somehow...) and i was following the next to upgrade it to ICS and then JB... but my f*(#@^$cking browser decided to crash, and now I'm unable to find the thread again.... (i've been looking for hours)
Please if someone can point me to the right direction?? Like I said i rooted it already.... and everytime I keep trying to get the ICS rom, all i get is a red menu (CWM i think??) but I can't find the rom anywhere. Help!??
Thanks to all.
If you downloaded it already, it would be in the download or downloads folder on your SD card. But since your browser crashed, you may want to re-download it, just to make sure it actually downloaded.

wow. over 8 hours here...... (sigh)

i can still get into the red menu, but i've tried to install the rom severall times..... with no luck.
does anyone know if there's still a way to save my phone or can i smash it to little pieces by now?

Good advice right here as flashing a ROM that may be corrupted (even though CWM should see it and abort the install) can and will cause problems. Re download the ICS ROM then make a new folder in your internal SD card and place the ROM in it for easy finding.
Remember though, you have to boot into ICS at least ONCE before installing a JellyBean ROM.
Good luck
If you still find yourself stucked at the samsung logo, you may want to go back to stock with odin or heimdall, and also flash the GB bootloaders which you probably don't have, depending on how you upgraded to GB.
Then flash entropy's dd kernel to get cwm back.
There is a link to a guide on How to flash JB on my signature. Follow that and should reach JB safely.

imei wont stay

Hey all and thx for reading this ahead of time.A friend of mine flashed his infuse to jelly first and lost the imei and all that.So i went to put it back to stock with UCLB3 and sometimes it will say insert sim and sometimes it wont the imei comes and goes sometimes any way to fix this. Also if the phone gets a imei on restart it will lose it and say null/null .

Im sorry i have i might be overlooking something been looking for the last 5 hours could be eyes tired could you pls help sry to bug.I have used the efs file for odin with the other files back to stock and the samething thx in advance.
XDA rule #1 is to search first. There is a great deal of information available, particularly in the super everything thread.

I did use the search button.
Still nothing guess have used the efs files have used gtg files and otheres and it wont stay.
Sorry, just reread your first post about it showing up then not.
Sometimes there is not a straight fix. Sometimes you just have to say what the hell and try a fix that's close.
Like the one that's posted inside of a topic that's only three or four topics away from this one.
It also sounds like the internal SD card file system might be messed up.
Nothing i have bricked the phone deleted sys, data,,cache, and dalvik in cwm flashed custom roms and went back to bone stock and nothing hell it wont even get imei now.I tried the other fix of hunting down the imei nv_data and it was empty so any other help is thankful.
