Thanks

I would recommend Enhanced Email. Its a great email client that will let you ignore security policies.

Thanks, i will check that out. However, I wanted to keep the default email app and just get rid of the policies.

Yes I need that too. There are a couple here and there, but they FC on Infuse for some reason.
EDIT: One DOES work. I think it's the one from Darky's 9.2 ROM for Captivate. It's a Samsung Froyo email.apk that has security removed. Kudos goes to the guy who did this, it was NOT me . It just needs a restart after install, otherwise opening an email FCs.
If after restart it still doesn't work - try clearing Dalvik cache.
Installing with Root Explorer:
1. Browse to /system/app
2. Mount as R/W
3. Rename Email.apk to "Email.apk.orig" (or whatever you want to call it)
4. Rename Email.odex to "Email.odex.orig" (or whatever)
5. Copy in the Email.apk from this post (attached)
6. Reboot and, if you want, clear Dalvik Cache.

Annoying T-Mobile EMail Signature

I went to account setting and tried to both delete the "signature" and uncheck including it. Changes do not stick.
I changes permissions on the APK in system (they stuck), repeated above - same result. Rebooted and tried again - no luck. Tried searching for the text with Root Explorer - also no luck.
I could try deleting the app and installing another version, but since it is in /system, reluctant to do that - have had issues doing that in the past.
Extremely annoying and am reluctant to send emails with it still there. Looking for suggestions.
I'll be toying with this later as well. Its quite annoying especially with an exchange account.
Please search for this on the forums. I posted the same issue and someone posted a apk to fix it. I did it and it works.

I did search, and already downloaded a Froyo 2.2 EMail apk. I did not see any specific instillation instructions - so want to be sure I don't mess up the ROM (although I already have a nandriod).
I had already installed(app) a different Email app this phone (for another issue). It worked, but would not not keep email marked as read unless I fully opened them (simply checking and selecting "mark read" did not stick).
So was wondering if there is a specific flashing procedure I should follow (like deleting the app in system, inserting new one, and reboot). Again - reluctant to mess with /system directly.

Thanks I am rooted, but I think I just flashed over the existing app and some "noise" must have carried over. Did it the way in the other thread and it worked OK
Attached is the actual Email.apk (so your not going through 3 different forums)
Download it to your SD Card
Using Root Explorer:
Navigate to /system/app
Press and hold "Email.apk" and select rename from menu.
Rename it "Email.apk.bak", confirm.
Navigate to /sdcard/_ExternalSD
Press and hold new "Email.apk" and select copy from menu.
Navigate back to /system/app and select "Paste" from the bottom button.
Click on the new "Email.apk" and choose to install it.
Setup Email, set Signature, give me a "Thanks", and drink a beer... you deserved it.

When I go to rename the file, it says ""Email.apk" not renamed". Now what do I do?
Thanks.
Try ending the task first. Are you rooted?
Go into settings>applications>manage applications, find Email, Clear Cache
Do this before renaming and pasting the new one over. Rebooting after clearing cache, might help too.
not sure why, but the downloaded email app cannot set up MS Exchange account? Am I missing something here? Thanks for the help.
found how to do it. has to choose manual setup

I cleared the cache and rebooted and its still not working. I cannot rename the file. I also cannot even see any files in my SD card when I use the Rooted explorer. I don't know what's going on. I was sure that I rooted the phone correctly. I followed all of the rooting instructions. It went smoothly. Is there a way I can check if I rooted my phone correctly?

Thanks.
I use Enhanced E-Mail from the Market. It's an overlay for the existing e-mail client not a replacement like TouchDown (TD flattens the databases screwing up my contacts via Bluetooth). It's $9.99 and will allow you to change your signature (plus provides a ton of useful features). I know you shouldn't have to buy a third party product and T-Mobile's stupid for locking the signature on the phone but your sanity may be worth $9.99.

Also you mention the exchangegoogle.apk this isnt provided here, do you mean you backed up the stock one and reinstated it along with the moded emailgoogle.apk after a reboot?

I would say it requires de-odexed ROM.
I can't install this as normal application, it will return fail.
So I know I need to clear the email off the system (including the ExchangeGoogle).
Backed it up, delete and reboot.
Then I copy both of them back and reboot it.
guys you dont need to touch ExchangeGoogle at all.
EmailGoogle is all you need.

I swear I did it right, but it's still a no go for me.
I copied the 2 APKs EmailGoogle and ExchangeGoogle to sdcard for backup.
I deleted the 2 files from system/app
rebooted
copied the modded EmailGoogle and then the ExchangeGoogle APKs back to system/app
changed file permissions to read/write, read, read.
rebooted.
Immediately on bootup I get the exchange error. I tried to go through email setup and got the exchange error several more times then it closed the email app.

I'm using kwiboo's ICS AOSP ROM with franco.kernel ICS on Nexus S.
How about you try to set it up, just ignore the bloody exchange service has stopped, reboot and uninstall it through titanium.
I think the issue is the some sort of "registry". Need to clear this one for sure.
Works
Works on I9000 ICS port Beta1. I just followed the steps in OP. Thanks
I use Exchange mail for work and I'm curious: why would you actually need this? Is this only for people who have specific security policies that prevent the stock Email app from connecting to the server?

PS: not sure if it is the apk you modded's fault or the exhange - but after a couple of reboots or 24hours, the email stops responding - and I get a "cannot connect due to security" message.
Need to re-enable pin lock, then re-synch, then change the unlock method again.

EP4D Deodexed System Apps
and this:
Empty CWM file
The 2 apk files that you want to take from "EP4D Deodexed System Apps" are "BackupAssistant.apk" and "LiveWallpapersPicker.apk" and put them into this "Empty CWM file" in the /system/app, then flash this "Empty CWM zip file" using CWM. This process will take the apk app from the "Empty CWM file" and place them into your phone's /system/app. Read the instruction from OP for more details.
Thanks.. But I just ended up reflashing a bloated version & removing the crud myself.
She's having another dilemma.. In the Samsung email app, the icon next to the account name "[email protected]", is always spinning, even when there's no new mail or isn't refreshing.. I have it set on automatic (push) delivery, before it was on this she never had this problem.
The emails are making it through in 3-5 minutes, she just hates it because she always thinks it's still loading.. Does anyone know of something I can try to fix this?

yahoo mail take a while to authenticate and download, if you set to push, for one email it's going to take 5 min, so basically, it's running all the time. I suggest you set to longer time (recommend 3hrs or more) for checking. Myself to save battery I set to manual, and hit refresh when I want to download new email.

Using Stock ICS Email vs Samsung email app

Hello.
I want to know if somebody can/is run(ing) a stock Android email apk (as the one in the nexus phones or Xoom tablet), instead of the Samung email client.
I really want to use such version, as I cannot get confortable with the samsung version.
Instructions to install it? Sideload? adb push? where to find an apk?
I had a Google version running but I flashed a new rom after the leak and am having issues getting it to work. If I do soon I'll let you know

Did you try changing the permissions for both apps when you copied them to the /system/apps folder?
the permissions need to match the other files in the folder rw-r--r--
(all the read boxes need to be checked and just the owner write box needs to be checked)
I can confirm these files do work.
Thank you mhk!
Confirmed working with Smooth Ice ROM and Exchange 2003 server. So far so good. Wish I hadn't spent the $10 on EnhancedEmail...
the google email will not give me the option to push my yahoo email accounts any ideas?
I'm trying to get these email apps to work on LR2.6 but the emailgoogle.apk wont launch. It breifly opens before it FC.
I have tried fixing permissions but still no joy.
The reason why I have been lookign to change from the stock email.apk is that I couldn't get exchange to work properly with my work email which I did have working on a previous ROM.
Any ideas what I could do to get it to launch? Should this work on GT-i9100?
Not working on UCLD2??
Seems like this aosp apps wont work on the UCLD2 leaked release.
Anyone has success?
Works for me on NexusMOD UCLD2. It took me a few tries to get it to work though. I had to clear data for the built in email, then rename them, install the new ones and reboot. Let it settle. The first few times it would force close all the time, but after clearing data and then rebooting, it worked.
I finally managed to create some flashable zips that work, so you can move from Samsung email to Google/ICS email app much easier. All you need to do is go into manage apps, Email and clear data and cache (if any), reboot into recovery and flash ICS_EmailGoogle_update.zip. It will rename Email.apk, Exchange.apk and SocialHub.apk and install the new apks. To revert back to stock, again go to manage apps, Email and clear data and cache (if any) and boot into recovery and flash ICS_Stock_Email.zip. If you don't clear data, when you switch back and forth you will get FC's. I only use this with Exchange, so I can't verify if it works with other providers, but it works great for me.
I realize you can do all this with a rooted file explorer, but with the amount of times I seem to have to do it, this is easier...
As always, no guarantees, if your phone blows up, I'm not responsible. If you are curious, open up the zips and check out the scripts, just so you can see that I'm not deleting your system partition...
Enjoy!
Tom

I can't try that on my machine right now, well at least not my laptop and wont have access to my desktop until Saturday. I did however try this originally on my Nexus 7 with 4.3 and it failed, so I am not sure it would even work on 4.4 especially since the mail app has apparently been updated.
I am also very interested in this...

I haven't been able to test these yet, but If someone wants to check report back. If not I will check tomorrow. Stock email and exchange apks with the pin bypassed.
Backup your current email and exchange apks including their odexed files and push these to system/app, set permissions, and reboot.
Exchange2Google.apk - 1.12 MB
EmailGoogle.apk - 4.81 MB
Trying now, will respond with an update in 15min.
Update: Here is what I did, and please tell me if I did this wrong or need to replace my odex files. I changed the 2 apk files and their odex files to .bak after their names. Moved the 2 files you linked into system and changed permissions. Rebooted the device. Setup my email. Added my account and it asked for permission, hit activate and it did not make me set a passcode. Email is syncing now.
Only question is, should I make a copy of the 2 odex files and just put them back in there, or leave it without and .odex files? I have no idea what the .odex files actually do which is why I am asking.
I followed the steps in the other thread, made a flashable zip then flashed it. Working fine here :victory:

Does this patch fix the syncing issue? I have to set up my work email using IMAP, instead of exchange, as the Email app stops syncing after a couple of hours, when I set it up using exchange. Just wondering. Thanks.

I tried this patch and it stops syncing after a while too. I could not get it to work after trying multiple times. I just switched to the 4.3 version and it's working perfectly.
I patched mine with the first method of copying the files over myself and 16 hours later it is still syncing my mail just fine. Setup as Exchange account with active sync.

Flashable zip worked fine for me.
I did try switching to the ART runtime and I then got constant FC's on the email app/exchange app. I reflashed and it still had the issue.
After switching back to Dalvik, all is working and it didn't need another flash. So stay on Dalvik.
