General
Q:Is it a ROM? will it remove Winndows Mobile (WM) completely?
A:No this is not a ROM .. so WM won't be affected by it .. and whenever you want to switch back to WM just restart the device. Currently Android is installed by using a clean SD Card, and booted from there. It is booted by running a special application called 'Haret.exe' residing on your SD Card which will terminate the Windows kernel and boot into Android.
Q:Means when I come back to WM I will not notice a difference?
A:In fact, there are two reported issue:
1.After running android, the gps in WM may not work. Solution is : launch Andriod again, go to Settings -> Location, and enable checkbox Use GPS satellites
2.If you lower ringtone volume in Android you will also have lower ringtone in WM(even if it's on maximum)
Q:What version of Android, release is using?
A:Android 2.2
Q:Where can I download latest release?
A:http://code.google.com/p/photon-android/downloads/list
Q:Where can I get instructions on how to install?
A:http://code.google.com/p/photon-android/wiki/Android_Installation_Tutorial
or http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1002178
Q:When will we have a full working Android? when will be ready for daily use ?
A:Hard to say ..PLEASE Do not ask such things, because nobody knows, but the project is in progress ...Will be published ...
Q:Is there an porting Android on HTC HD Mini roadmap?
A:NO! Developers working in their spare time, please show some respect! and not bothering them with questions such as: When will be the X sensor designed ... or X bug fixed
Q:What kind of questions can I ask here?
Alease look around to see if your question has already been asked (and maybe even answered!) before you ask. You should only ask practical, answerable questions based on actual problems that you face.
Q:How do I know what has already been asked and answered?
A:How to Search on XDA-Developers? - search using the XDA-Developers Forum built-in Search function, find the search bar and type in your search text, and press Enter.
Q:I'm not a programmer but I want to help .. How can I?
A:Check the developers requests
Installing Android
Q:Haret wont finish loading android ? & My SD Card doesn't seem to work!
A:Most SD Cards are working, but if not, you should try one of these fixes
Fix 1: a)Format your card with this tool http://www.sdcard.org/consumers/formatter/(perform full erase,or full owerwrite)
b)go on "My Computer",right click on card and format it again FAT32
Fix 2: Tell your wife / girlfriend that you are about to make some modifications to her phone... change the ringtone and steal her SD Card to use with Android. She will never discover what you have done.
Fix 3:Buy a new card
Using Android
Q: Where can I report bugs?
A: http://code.google.com/p/photon-android/issues/list
Q:Any other known bugs ?
A:Other known bugs here:http://code.google.com/p/photon-and...+Milestone+Owner+Summary&cells=tilest=1073817
Q:I can't wake up my device?
A: Press Volume + and power together. If you can't wake it up just remove the battery
Q:Application "xy" is not responding: Should I click "Force Close" or "Wait" ?
A:Click wait, it COULD be related to the slow speed of the SD Card (for Android's liking) This seems to happen more after bootup or wakeup when the device is busy doing stuff in the background.
Q:I got an error: process com android settings has stopped unexpectedly
A: See Tutorial
Q: How do I overclock?
A: Tutorial click here
Q:How do I migrate my contacts from Windows Mobile?
A: See How to sync WinMo with Google or you can also use SPB Migration Tool
Q:How do I prevent clock drift?
A:To alleviate this, download ClockSync from the Andriod Market. An hourly synchronization setting is recommended.
Q:What is ADB / How-To ADB
A: ADB = Android Debugging Bridge. Official Google ADB Page It also kinda works like USB Mass Storage using a Windows app called Droid Explorer.
Q:How to expand the size of data.ext2
A:There are two procedures described :
1.Click here if you doing a new "installation"
2.Click here if you want to keep your user data

Thats why i asked mod for a q&a sub-forum but i haven't got a reply yet, do you think i should pm admin to ask?

I have not seen the last few days, someone asks something that is written in the FAQ, and if I see someone, then I will tell him maybe in the replication or through PM and ask him nicely in a friendly way, to read the FAQ. That's my plan!
bruce2728 if you want to do something new that would be for all of us benefit-Thumb Up!!
Nike - Just do it!

ok then i will tell people to see the faq thread first before asking something...we may win!

overclocking
hi, don't know whether this should be here, or in another thread, but
I was wondering whether we could overclock in android from 'haret', because for me the setcpu app force closes many times and the overclocking widget does too. Maybe use haret startup command?
Thanks in advance!

Overclocking comes with some pretty serious risks. There is always the possibility you could brick the phone, this is not a game for beginners.

Dark Keys for 1.5 Firmware

Does anyone know how to get dark keys application working on the 1.5 firmware (cupcake)
Is it something the app developer needs to do and if so does anyone know where i can reach him to ask
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=513772 go here for app <<
it has to be done on the developers side and if you download the program through market the go to its details and scroll down to email developer.
already sent an E-mail to the Dev asking for the source code. He said he was going to get it uploaded.
cheers
Thanks guys
any luck on getting it to works on 1.5 yet?
Someone needs to make a new version of this app. one that doesnt keep flicking on and off like dark keys does. would be nice if it just remembered whether it was on or off and stayed that way until changed.
whats the darks key?black key?
Would it be possible to have a uer option to have the backlight on or off based on the time of the day?
Hm, they disabled a lot of programs abilities to change settings like wifi/gps etc, dont know if this was one of those settings (REALLY hope not since you cant change it in android settings either).
Really need this app working for 1.5 :/

That's a really good idea but we need to get it working with 1.5 first
Anyone seen any updates on this anywhere? His webpage seems quiet as well. Thinking about looking into this myself, but it'd be a lot easier with his code.
Nobody saw the source? It is explicitely posted on google code..
Here is the link:
http://code.google.com/p/darkkeys/
Did not actually see that, but I dont think it's possible with 1.5 firmware, I looked into it a bit myself, trying to construct hardwareservice jar file for 1.5.
//edit, that is, not possible with the normal hardwareservice way, it'll still work fine on rooted phones.
Rename to darkkeys.apk and install normally. Works only on rooted phones for 1.5 unfortunatly, and it's only debug signed.
Upstream bug tracker here : http://code.google.com/p/darkkeys/issues/list?updated=2&ts=1241446083
This is a disaster for white G1s!
Do I really have to root my phone just to be able to see the keyboard? What are Google playing at?

haha thank you so much i have been waiting for this for a LONG TIME!
Seems they changed detection on whether or not the keypad's open a bit as well, I'll see about making it more reliable sometime today.
Attaching new one, same procedure, rename to .apk and install directly.
What's the point in this?

Bronze G1s suffer from the same problem. So here's another vote for "change timeout based on time of day" feature. Preferably something configurable and togglable. Thanks for your hard work, guys!

Sorry for the late reply but yes its a 32b Rom and as far as wifi i havent tried it out yet if it doesnt work plz let me know.
does the music app work ? in other releases it would force close. if it works ill flash and give it a try
well, i tried it and the keyboard FC. also the lock screen jumps between lock and main screen. it wouldnt let me make phone call or text. i will wait for further updates. just fyi to everyone else.
Will I be able to flash this on my phone and then some 32a kernel patch??
Or will that cause a brick?
Same here locks up keyboard on setup... nice looking rom tho
Just a thought here... and if not I understand. But could you make a version that simply has everything installed to /system which will make the rom incredibly fast even without swap. That way we would only need fat32 and linux swap partitions. I understand that it would mean no apps2sd but that really isn't necessary... If you're unsure check out Evil D's nano Sense v 1.1 to see just how fast fast can get. http://bit.ly/1GOfDS

That is a great idea and I will look into that I'm trying to fix the keyboard issue as we speak and most likely it will be fixed on the next release I am running it on my phone as well to catch most bugs the music player is very buggy I will work on that too and the autorotate as well
Dialer closes upon any number being pressed. Making it unusable.
Google contacts are not there... even after managing to get signed in at the setup.
pressing "del" in messager backs you back to the thread messaging screen.
Lock screen flicks.... does pretty much anything with keyboard.
Google contacts aren't there by default with pulse roms... you need to go to settings and turn sync on for contacts. It's off by default for some dumb reason.

[SOFT] Find and Pull™ v1.0.2

Hey guys,
Here's my newest Windows program. You type in a search phrase, and through ADB, it will search your phone in the specified directories and then you can pull to the specified save locations on your computer.
Find and Pull™ v1.0.2
PREREQUISITES:
Android USB Drivers installed
ADB working and in PATH
USB Debugging Enabled
.NET 4.0
HOW TO USE:
1. Connect phone to computer via USB
2. Run FindandPull.exe
3. Go to File > Preferences
4. Choose a save location (use the file browser button)
5. Choose a search location (some common ones are in the drop down, but you can also type your own)
6. Press OK
7. Now type in whatever you want to search for:
-For example, if you want to find any files with the word 'speed' in it, type 'speed' without the quotes
-Also, you can use the wildcards * and ? in your search.
*Don't put them on the outer edges of your search text since I already did that.
8. Press the Find button
9. If it found any files, it will now list them in the checked list box.
10. Check whichever files you want to pull.
11. Press the Pull button.
12. Voila!
Changelog is in app.
Source: Find and Pull GitHub
If anyone has any suggestions, features, or ideas they would like implemented, as well as any bugs found, PLEASE let me know.
Frequently Asked Questions:
1. Will this work on my phone?
No, it won't. This is only for Windows.
2. The program doesn't want to open on my computer. What's wrong?
Most likely, you will need to update to the newest version of .NET framework. I'm using 4.0, so that could be the issue.
3. The device checker keeps saying that it can't find my device. PLEASE HELP ME!!!
Alright, I ended up having to help out with a lot of these problems with my Clock Switcher program. So the simplest solution I could think of was for the program to use ADB however you have it set up. Therefore, you must have ADB already working on your computer, as well as being in PATH.
4. So how do copy protected apps onto my computer?!?!?
Sorry, but out of respect for other developers I didn't list that location in the drop down. If you figure it out anyway, congrats lol.

EDIT: Works great. Only suggestion so far is to incorporate the target folders in the main search page if possible, rather than having to go to preferences. Not a big deal, though. I can definitely live with it as it stands. Thank you for this!
Re: Find and Pull™ v1.0
I posted link to 4.0 in OP thanks for that.. and thanks for the suggestion .. I'll mess around with it tomorrow
OK updated OP with new version.
Added a "search within results" feature and some bug fixes
Still need to implement some more features in my free time
Any suggestions are highly welcomed
Small update..
Added 2 new search options
1. you can now specify last modified dates
2. you can also specify either files or directories

about to start my first root/rom

Hello group,
Wish me luck. I am about to start my first root/rom install. Going with Andromeda. This will be applied to my 5th replacement phone for the auto shut down issue. It just arrived. I am getting tired of getting replacements and waiting for a good one so that I can go to 2.2. I have read the guides. I have a couple questions that I can't find a clear answer on.
1) I already have a paid version of mybackup pro. Can that be used instead of titanium?
2) My phone is up and running on the stock 2.1. Is it normal to restore all apps, data and system settings from the 2.1 phone to the 2.2 install? Are the system setting compatible between the two?
3) I think I recall some mention of writing down some number from your original phone so that if you have to set it back to stock for warranty. I don't see that in the official instructions though. Is there such a precaution necessary?
Thanks in advance.

1. should owrk
2.Never restore system data. Your just asking for trouble if you do.
3. Back up your efs folder from system and copy it to your pc. As roms chnage android id and imei
cool thanks for the quick response. Nubish question from your response. How do I backup the "efs" folder I don't see it using the phone to browse the files or mounting the phone via usb and browsing via the pc. Do I have to root it first?

Yes you will need to root it first and then you will need a files explorer that will allow you to get to the system files. I use Root Explorer my self. One of the few apps that is well worth the money
good luck with the first go at it. I just did the same the other day and must say best decision I made with this phone.
What everyone else said is good. I would also back up your contacts and write down your APN settings. Some ROMs change the APN.
Contacts:
1) Contacts > menu button > Import/Export > Export to SD Card > you will get a vcard file saved to your sd card. You should also back this up on your pc.
2) You can also sync your contacts with your gmail account. I usually take the vcard from earlier and import it into gmail.
APN:
1) Settings > Wireless and network > Mobile networks > Access Point Names > just write down the settings in case they change in the future.

Would of been easier if you just referred him to it: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=919816
Instead of this nonsense
You will be nothing but happy after flashing. I do not mpost much on here, just read and read, but this site is excellent in finding what you need. I ran Phoenix for a while and it was very good, but I have flashed Serendipity 5.0 with the latest Speedmod kernel and its working great. Battery life seems to have improved for me with this combination.
So did you flash?? What was the outcome? Success? Check out Ceszar's continuum theme for Andromeda, just love that along with Andromeda 2.0
I'm curious too as to how everything went for you.

Yes i flashed. running andromeda for the past couple days. seems fine. much faster and the gps lokcs in seconds now. with 2.2 i can now use skype, flash, chrome to phone and use the power button for the camera shutter. All wins for me. I am not sure I get any more battery life out of this setup. I have been playing with it non stop, so I don't have any real world numbers on the battery life. I also learned that mybackup pro can't restore apps backed up from 2.1 to 2.2 I tried 3 times and every time the apps would fail at some point and I wold have to hard close them.
I have noticed a couple times that I have lost the data connections either on wifi or the 3g. Not sure it's the rom, hardware or just plain bad cell sites. but on reboot the connections were fine.
Over all impressed with the dev team for adromeda. They have an irc channel and there seems to be someone always there to answer my questions.

Just an update.
I rolled back to the untheamed 1.0 andromeda and then applied the DMT Dark Theme. did not like the battery meter so loaded modded circle one. Pretty happy with the look now. See the attached running launcher pro.
That looks really good.
I wish I had seen this thread before you installed that new ROM. I would have told you that stickies are for sissies.
Do it all from the seat of your pants and depend on luck. That's what I say. (j/k)
Do you see that business about restoring all system data? I tried that yesterday, I think it was. Got a good install of Paragon RC5. I think I then tried a full system data restore from TiBu. Rebooted the phone and it started back up so that it required a PIN to unlock it. I guess because I had been using that function before install of RC5. The PIN did not work. Tried this method not only once, but twice. Finally figured out how to use TiBu for real, I think. Makes me wonder if these locking schemes are worth using. I suppose they might buy you just a little bit of time in case of theft.
If you get to jonesing for something new, check out the ROM mentioned above.
Glad you're happy with your efforts!
.
Glad to hear it all went well for you. And I like the look you got going there. Seems like you did great for your first time

[Q] Would post in Developers Forums but need at least 10 Posts.....

I did a search and could not readily find the answer......
Is Gapps.zip also required with DJ ICS+ V1.0.3 also?
I root and upgraded my Sam Tab 10.1. It required Gapps.zip. Also it also auto downloaded all of the apps from my Marketplace library. On the Skyrocket each apps has to be re-downloaded. Would installing Gapps.zip, if even possible on the Skyrocket, add any missing baseline apps and do the auto download of the library?
TIA,
Rob
Nope you don't need gapps

That's why programs like titanium backup exist.

The funny thing is that I did not need to use Titanium on the Tab 10.1. Which was very cool.......

same thing, google wouldnt restore anything I had unless I was using AOSP or something cm7.
So been using DJ ICS+ V1.0.3 for a while now. The aesthetics are excellent and it appears to be very stable. So I have to say the folks that worked on this did a really good job. However, benchmarking this load shows about a 20% decrease in performance compared to a stock 2.3.5, even when clocked at 1.7Ghz versus the stock 1.5Ghz.
I could be doing something error but the load works very well. Perhaps FauxClock is not working correctly.
The numbers from AnTuTu are:
Stock 2.3.5 - 6053
DJ ICS+ V1.0.3(2.3.6) - 4834
This is apparently not a full ICS build which is fine it has a good look and feel but it is at the expense of some performance.
So before the flames start, I am not complaining. Just merely pointing out some fact for anyone looking to some this or the new to be updates load(rom).
I would have posted this in the development forum but still don't have 10 posts.....
FWIW,
Rob

Your thread would have been deleted if your question had been posted at the development forums. That is why we have Q&A forums. This is the right place to ask you questions.
Please familiarize yourself with the XDA Forum Rules.
Good you didn't have 10 posts to make your question there yet, didn't you
Ok, being part of several forums that rule is certainly not intuitive.
So since this is the correct forum post how about a response?
Seems like the folks creating the ROM would be interested in the feedback and be best to provide some insight. Don't seem to be getting it here.....
Or did I miss the response?
Also, I read the rules and I did not see anything that would suggest that this post in the Developers Forums would have been removed. Do the rules change as the moderators deem fit???????

it has nothing to do with the ROM. it is a Touchwiz based rom and thus you will have the exact same issues as any other touchwiz based rom when it comes to your apps....
I was thinking of installing the gapps for the same reason. Not so much the apps for me, but on my AOSP phones/roms google saved all my wifi passwords that alone is worth checking out because I have a lot that are a pain in the ass to enter on a phone.

but GAPPS are the same versions of the apps that are already included in the rom...
this is a TOUCHWIZ issue, until you remove Samsungs crap UI, it will remain an issue
installing GAPPS from CM will yield no benefit.....

Didn't know this. Thanks! I recently fired up my old Nexus S 4G and it was nice that everything just worked, loaded, and connected after I unput my google account info. Every android phone should do this.
