New to Samsung Root - Verizon Droid Charge

OK so I'm use to rooting HTC phones and have no idea what to or how it works, I do have a few questions.
1. Is there a I click root for ed2 ota?
2. Is CWM fully function yet?
3. Is the lagfix up and running and is it something you flash through CWM?
Thank you in advanced.
My baseline is ed1 and my build is ed2, I did do the ota.

1. No
2. Not exactly
3. I believe most of us flashed with odin.
If you are unrooted on ED2, then you need to flash back to ED1 to apply root...but I think Altered Beast provides root too.

1. no one click for ED2. You need to flash a rooted kernel.
2. CWM works for everthing except nandroid backup/restore.
3. Lagfix is implemented in all voodoo kernels posted in development. Some can be flashed in CWM, one has to be flashed in odin

Don't the voodoo kernels apply root on boot each time?
Could he Odin CWM onto the phone, then use CWM to flash imnuts' kernel and effectively get root (whether he applied voodoo or not)?

yes, as long as he boots directly to revovery. If you boot the stock kernel cmw will be overwritten, afaik.

Noob rooting question

I'm fairly new to rooting and I have the basic idea down. My only quesiton is once I flash a kernal that has CWM and root and then install a rom with CWM (assuming I got that part right) if I decide I want to go back completely stock is all I have to do flash a stock version of this phone through odin? Thanks in advance

You got it. Wish it was harder but its' that easy. You can find the stock unrooted version in the dev forum. Happy rooting.
Thanks!

[Q] CWM

Hi!
This weekend, I reverted back to stock Rogers rom. I have the stock kernel that came with it as well. Although stock, I am still rooted but without CWM and Voodoo (stock kernel).
I was just wondering if I use SGS Kernel flasher from the market, will I be able to flash a new kernel (Infused) so I can have CWM and Voodoo? Or will I brick my phone?
Phone is running 2.3.3 UXKG3 stock from Rogers.
Thanks!

Also, would I need to replace 3e with the modded one or will it be part of the Kernel flashing?

In order for sgs kernel flasher to work, you first need to root the phone.
instead of rooting, you can flash the GB infusion kernel..gtg, bedwa or entropy-all based on Rogers, to get cwm. You need to do this on download mode via Odin or heimdall.
You can use the heimdall in my second post on the uclb3 thread
I am rooted already. I just need CWM.
PS I tried using SGS Kernel flasher to flash the kernel listed on the "How to root Rogers Infuse" by GTG, but it said "Invalid zimage file" so I wasn't able to flash it.

Also, will Entropy's Daily Driver kernel also provide me with a CWM if I flash it via SGS Kernel flasher?

Yes, it will provide you with red CWM recovery.

How to root v21y

Same method as 2.3.3?

Just flash Kwes's rooted rom through CWM.
CWM with NVflash hasn't changed.
Easiest method I found - http://www.unlockroot.com/
Works great on stock!
Yea but don't I need to be rooted to flash cwm?

No. You aren't rooting to get cwm, you get cwm to root.
No you do not have to be rooted to flash cwm you just have to download nvFlash and follow the instructions in the post you will find a whole thread about it in the development section by
So I can flash cwm then a custom rom and kernel without ever rooting?
That makes no sense.

Nvidia based devices are a little different. The APX mode let's you flash a recovery, so you can then load whatever ROM you want, rooted or not.

I would upgrade via kies to gb, then use the heimdall one click for antonx's kernel.
Im not sure if the sgs kernel flasher will work with froyo but if it does you need to make sure you are using a froyo kernel and not a gingerbread.

You can't use kies to upgrade to GB on rooted Froyo. Use the guide in the second link of my signature to upgrade to GB. Then look at the guide in the first link of my signature to root and use SGS Kernel Flasher.

Silly rooting question.

So I'm wondering if there is an easy way to root from the phone? Or any way for that matter. I'm on a cappy with stock 2.3.5 and wow it sucks. Its my wife's phone as I soft bricked my phone trying to flash helly bean over firefly 3.0. I'm guessing I didn't have the gb bootloaders. Though with this phone I do have them and should be able to easily flash helly bean with no problems once its rooted and I flash the proper kernal.

I always go to 4-2ndtwin's helpful links in his signature and use either Odin or Heimdall to install a kernel that will allow you to flash roms. Then you can just boot into recovery and flash.
I think there is a mobile odin on the market.
Ill look for mobile Odin.

Odin requires root. Is there a way to root from the phone?

No, you dont need root to use odin. Make sure you read up and find instructions. Flash a kernel with root and apply via CWM and there you go.

Mobile Odin does require Root.
And nope, no way to Root just from phone.
But there is no need to get Root if u r just gonna flash a Rom anyway. U will however need to use Odin or Heimdall to flash a kernel with the CWM Recovery baked in. (i recommend KK4 Corn Kernel v7.0A ). Once u have flashed that kernel, just use button combo to reboot into cwm and then install ur Rom of choice that u should have already copied on ur phone. Success
