Has anyone heard of any fix being created for the WiFi death grip?
Sent from my HTC Desire S using XDA App
It's the first time I hear about it (I haven't tried WiFi yet...) and it seems not good, I think it's due to the aluminium body of the phone... So not software issue...
Yeah... A fix seems sort of unlikely

Please ensure that you search the forums before creating new threads, this issue has been covered many times in existing posts.
I believe that it was proved to be software based when the DESIRE S Roms were ported to the DESIRE HD and they then suffered from the same problems with Wifi.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1051674
A partial software fix does exist but its only applicable if you have a S-OFF phone and root access to your phone, (Security-OFF) which is only currently possible to have by using the XTC clip device.

Hmmm Im hoping this is it, Root for this phone, any confirmation? My phone is on the Brown truck today, out for delivery, should be getting it by the end of the day.
I'm fairly certain that gingerbrick was tested and it didn't work

The original source of this link was taken down, my thinking is it doesn't work
Even if this did work, it would only be temp root.
I really want to try this but a tad sceptical as I would imagine it would be all over xda if it was true.

In the dev's op for the thread he states it will not work on devices with S-on
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1044765
I'm guessing no one still actually tested this though. It said to run gingerbreak for like 10 mins after removing htc sync. I ran gingerbreak only for about 2 minutes and nothing happened. And temp root is at least a start if it hopefully works.

Is there a good source rather than sifting through the many threads in dev that are concerning this? - is there anyones twitter i can keep an eye on? - etc
I know it sounds vague, but there isnt ONE place to get the latest - and mining through 50+ pages of nonsense to find the good stuff is brutal!
thanks in advance!
yeah, follow alpharev on twitter:

Am I the only one who is thinking the reason for the delay is they can't reproduce on the branded Sensations?

Why would that be an issue exactly?
I am just thinking they want to make sure it works on both before releasing it to the public so no bricks there device. That's all.

Sure. But that's not what you said. You said, is it possible it's not working at all on branded devices. I was just wondering why you thought that might be the case. There is only a slight difference between a branded and unbranded ROM. Not massive. And the hardware is identical.
i'm waiting

The radio hardware on EU and US versions will be different yes. But not different between branded and unbranded devices.
The only delay, will be making sure it is idiot proof.
Why make it idiot proof? Just make it so it does not brick your phone.
Rooting is not for newbs. I hope they make you do some IQ test before you can download it.

Because even if you do say "Read all the instructions" you can guarantee that some idiot will brick their phone because they don't know what they're doing. And they WILL blame AlphaRev. Just the way these forums are
Has there been many bricked phones recorded, like bad chips or is it random?
Sent from my myTouch_4G_Slide using xda premium
Nope. I havent heard of one brick.
Sent from my Senseless Doubleshot using xda premium
Me either - we've been fortunate.
I was in a verizon store the other day looking at upgrading my phone because I broke the screen, and it happened to be right after i'd reflashed to stock to test something.
I was talking to a rep about rooting and stuff, and went to show him how to remap a hardware key to something else. Realized I wasn't rooted, but had the superuser update on my sdcard. I just reflashed it and continued with what I was trying to show him.
Hah, he was like "wow, that easy, huh? it took you like 20 seconds...aren't you worried about bricking your phone?"
I explained how you can only really brick it when writing a radio file, which I wasn't doing, and that we had zero reports of bricks thus far - and then proceeded to knock on wood and hope that we continue to be so fortunate.
undeadk9 and blue6ix, thanks for your replies .
No problem, we're here to help.
Just to clarify, I broke my other phone, not my beloved doubleshot.
So are the rooting methods here novice level? By the looks of them they require a lot of concentration.

Its not a z4 root. But its easy enough.
It's really hard to brick our phone. Thanks to good support on our forums and good directions.
I havent heard of one software error that resulted in a total loss for our phone.
Beautiful, should I follow instructions from an xda thread or head straight to the site. And thanks for all the help. It is really appreciated. Again, undeadk9 and droidmoder. Edit- went to the site and an xda thread is definitely what I need, in the mtg4 slide compendium thread there is like 3 or 4, any suggestions as to the friendliest one or are they all comparable in ease? Edit- not to get ahead of myself, is the modaco recovery. More stable than clockworkmod?

I use sense on crack. I'm too spolied wih. Sense and gb. Cm7 senseless and virtrious are all aosp. I ve used senseless but as I said to spoiled with some stock features that aosp does not have or is way different. Aosps are similar minus the devs themeing and added features.
All the roms are easy to install just follow directions. Cm7 uses the new clockwork while the other ones use the older version (modaco).
They all have great support devs are helpful. Undeadk9 is the author of sense on crack and senseless. He's super helpful.

I think virtrous is senseless I haven't used it yet so maybe another member can chime in.
Its easy to flash a new image. The compendium has directions for both images.
Ask undead I'm sure he's going to figure out a way for his roms to work with the new cwm.

I prefer this myself. I got so used to the tv out feature.

Link in the compendium explains it. In short you can use a rca 3.5mm 3 prong (yellow red white) to mirror your image on your phone to the tv. It has ps2 graphics and is decent for watching netflix or playing games

Fwiw the iPod vid cable as well as the creative zen vision m cables work in case you have one sitting around and want to check it out.
AS for the bricks i'm not worried about it.. Based on my brief research these aren't like the glaciers (mt4g) where it's a lottery as to if you'll end up with one that has the crappy Sharp lcd and bad emmc or get lucky with a Sony lcd and good emmc. I went through 3 of them before finally ending up with one that had the good screen and emmc but even that over had a hardware issue a the camera wouldn't work...... Hence why i'm on the mt4gs now oddly the guys there painted a bad picture of this slide when I mentioned I'd be switching to this phone which I can say was completely obviously based on no real knowledge or having experienced this phone. and sorry to say a lot of dev support for a dated device does not make for a better phone although it does make it more pleasurable to have....which some will try to make one think otherwise.........

You could of read the compendium before you bought it .
Myself I have to have a hardware keyboard coming from a g1. I liked the mt4g but wanted a keyboard. I saw the slide was announced to be released in a few months. So I waited. When it came out I was tempted by the g2x. But the camera keyboard and similar specs sold me the slide.
Best implusive/informed purchase I've made yet. I use this phone more than my laptop. Its fast as heck, has an awsome camera and I can watch netflix or game on my tv.
I love this phone! Lol

Inspect your USB connector at the base of the phone, there could possibly be something in there shorting the pins, do the same with the battery compartment/connector inside the phone. A little IPA alcohol on a qtip wouldn't hurt either to clean them up and then blow out with compressed/canned air. Also if you have another usb cable to test with give that a try. A 'stuck' button can also cause the phone to do this. Take off all the covers and clean it out, remove your sim and sdcard and try booting it without those. Just some ideas. If nothing works, I'd contact HTC and see what options you have.
Try a different charger...

Also please don't hijack someones thread with unrelated material when we are trying to help the OP.
I am wondering how many people have experienced the HTC phone just dying for no reason. I just got mine back from HTC last week after they replaced another one (with different IMEI #), but within a day of using it, it shutdown and became unresponsive again. This is the 3rd time that's happened to me. This time, I haven't even rooted the phone, everything was stock. So the issue is definitely with HTC. How common is this happened? Seems like HTC Sensation has a major bug that pops up and no matter how many times they replace it, it's still there. Are there enough of us with this problem that we can demand they replace with better models?
