[Q] Voodoo Lagfix Kernel problems - Verizon Droid Charge

This problem has probably been addressed previously, but I really cannot find it after spending hours combing through all the previous threads so here we go:
I did an ED1 recovery and gained root access then I did a successful flash of the Charge Voodoo Lagfix Kernel. Then I attempted to flash a swype theme .zip using CWM. When I attempted to flash the .zip my phone got stuck in a bootloop and I had to re-flash the ED1 recovery to get out of the loop. Afterwards, I had to do a factory reset to get the phone out of softbrick. Two days later...and completely restoring my phone I was able to perform ED1 recovery and root access, but whenever I attempt to re-flash Voodoo Lagfix Kernel, my phone gets stuck. The screen displays an icon that looks like a phone logo linked to a PC with an ! mark. My quad scores were around 1400 after previous voodoo flash but now they are around 900. I feel pretty confidant that I have lost Voodoo flash and would really appreciate help in figuring out how to get this kernel re-flashed. Thanks from a noob!

After you flash ED1 it should come up to the stock bootloader. Format everything from there. I suggest download a new copy of the CWM and try again. Maybe a different USB port and perhaps a different copy of ODIN.

When I re-flashed ED1 I did go into stock bootloader to recover phone. I had to factory reset. I then blocked ED2 update. Any link to CWM and new ODIN would be appreciated.

question about clockworkdmod and charge

I recently got my charge. used jt's
[ROOT] [KERNEL] [RECOVERY] - Root / Voodoo Lagfix / CWM Recovery
and got root and voodoo going.
then I downloaded CWM from the market and tried to "backup current rom"
after I did this the phone rebooted and is now stuck on the "samsung" splash screen.
anyone know why this happened?
why did CWM do this when I tried to backup the rom? anyone know because I do not know.
i tried to odin jt's file again but its still stuck on the samsung screen.
I just odin'd [ODIN] Stock Rooted ED1 (downgrade from ED2) [2011.05.18]
and was able to get it past the samsung screen but now its stuck in a boot animation loop.
Just wondering if anyone can tell me what happened when i tried to create a back up in CWM. and any ideas on what to do next. thanks!
i am going to try to odin altered beast and see if this will get it past the boot animation. if not i am totally out of ideas and will take any.
thanks guys,

You can't dl cwm from the market. you have to install the version jt1134 posted in the first thread. your phone is bootlooping because you didn't disable lagfix b4 flashing ed1 package.
Flash the Alltered Beast Odin package and see if that doesn't get you unstuck.
Oh, and don't use cwm for backup/restore, it doesn't work yet.

thank you. i am flashing altered beast now.
and yes it got me past the boot animation and i am back into my phone.
thank you for the reply.
I must go to sleep now as i cannot think straight.
[Odin][Rom][5/29/11]AC's Altered Beast **Alpha** Voodoo & CWM, ED2 with roo
seems pretty cool so far.props there.
but can i flash Jt's back over this and go back to the more stock feel with root? or first disable lagfix then go to ed1 then to jt's?
I think i will try that tomorrow night.(unless i fall totally in love with alteredbeast)
thank you for the replies and i hope my mistake can help someone else from not doing the same.

Yes you can change roms now. If you flash a non-voodoo kernel you have to disable lagfix b4 flashing or you'll get stuck again
thanks for the replies guys.
im still running alteredbeast. Animations on it are nice.

[Q] Can't mount SD card in CWM?

I've searched........extensively.
I've spent hours here with my end goal being to go from EE4 stock to EE4 rooted with Voodoo lagfix (imnuts). When I got the phone originally I had rooted ED1 using the gingersnap method, from there I OTA'ed to EE4, losing root.
Tonight i've ODIN'ed CWM, then flashed voodoo lagfix via CWM. Everything went great, the only problem being that I couldn't get root access for apps, but verified that lagfix was enabled using the Quadrant benchmark app. I'm guessing it was an SU issue. After trying a few suggestions from the board and still being in the same position, I flashed the stock EE4 ROM zip via CWM posted by imnuts, with the idea that i'd re-try the process from the beginning. Everything still great. Reflashed CWM via ODIN, and that worked with no problem. But the problem i'm having is that when I attempt to reflash the Voodoo lagfix zip via CWM, it says that it can't mount the SD card. The SD card is perfectly readable when the phone is booted into the OS. Even manually mounting the SD in CWM yields nothing. I've tried reflashing CWM 3 times, flashes fine, but still getting the SD card mounting error. I could technically stay on EE4 stock, but i'd really like to have root access.
Any assistance anyone could offer would be greatly appreciated.
I forgot to add, if I boot into CWM directly after flashing it, it works, but if I boot the phone into the OS, then attempt to power off and boot into CWM, it boots into the blue Samsung recovery screen. Every time.
I spoke too soon, I guess I hadn't actually tried everything. In any case, if anyone else ever has the problem, the fix went like this:
Flash back to stockrootedED1-20110517.tar.md5 via ODIN > OTA to EE4 > Flash CWM via ODIN > Flash PBJ Voodoo lagfix via CWM and end up at EE4 with root access and a very stealthy Voodoo lagfix kernal (thanks imnuts!).
If anyone is inclined to answer though, there is one question...is it wise to avoid the update that Market is now telling me I need for Superuser? Or is it ok to install said update? TIA

Go ahead and update. No problems with me when I did.
Never hurts to have a TiBu backup of your apps before updating, just in case...

Can't complete new (stock) firmware upgrade

Is any one having a problem with downloading the new firmware using kies mini?
I am able to download all the binaries, my computer goes to the install progress screen, and my phone goes to download, but there is never any progress on the install screen, and after 5 minutes or so, Kies states that the download fails. I also tried the emergency firmware recovery. It does the same thing.
Everything is stock and locked.

After I flashed the KD1 Deodexed ROM the upgrade worked great! Here's the link:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1063696
Get to stock KD1 first then try again.
I'm seeing the same thing, and I am running stock KD1, other than the fact that it is rooted and has CWM recovery.
Ideas?
Mine bootlooped after the upgrade, and I tried to flash stock kd1 3 times and I finally had to wipe user data and cache before it finally took and then I was able to update via kies
In CWM do a factory reset, wipe cache, wipe Dalvik in advanced menu, and Go into the voodoo menu > Disable lagfix and /system lagfix off. Reboot and let linda deconvert the file system. Save any personal files off your SSD card and format it. Then try the update again.

How do you delete data and cache? Does this mean all the apps that remember some state will lose it?
Specifically, after the binary download completes I get the error screen from Kies immediately and then a second or 2 later the download screen comes up on the phone, and it stays there until I reboot.
you wipe it in recovery, and you will lose everything but whats on your sd card. pretty much it will be like new state.
I went through the same process and it almost hard brick my phone, it wouldn't turn on or anything for 10 minutes. I had to downgrade to stock KB5 then upgrade using Kies.
This is the rom I flash with prior to upgrading through Kies.

Success
I was also having issues upgrading ith Kies. I was hoping to find a stock KJ6 and flash with ODIN and I did on Piratebay, with instuctions on how to flash and root with Odin.
I have successfully upgraded to GB. Coming from Stock Froyo, rooted.
Having the SGS 4G upgraded to GB is an amazing experience.
Performance increased dramatically, Battery life is ridiculously better (26 hrs unplugged with auto sync on, and battery stats actually work now) lots of polish to TW, but I don't think its 4.0
Heres the link to the torrent. For anyone having issue, this is a great solution.
thepiratebay.org/torrent/6814104/Samsung_Galaxy_S_4G_Gingerbread_2.3.6_[KJ6]_Update_and_Root
I'm looking forward to custom ROM! Thanks XDA Members!
Piratebay link blah... Don't flash stock, unless you really like not having a rooted phone. If you want the new official GB, I recomend flashing http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1351783 or http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1323973 both of which are based on the new GB release.
If you can't get Kies Mini to work, you can always flash the update manually with Odin.
Here is the official update that can be flashed with Odin (you do have to extract first, so you'll need WinRar or 7-zip)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1353176
This is assuming you are familiar with Odin... If not, here is a guide, or repost with questions. Good luck!

Root, EP OTA?

I just finished putting on Clockwork recovery after the OTA and then flashed Imosyen's 4.0 kernel. During the process I heard the Voodoo stuff take place, but upong rebooting my phone I don't have root. I read in these boards on the EE4 OTA that this should have worked, any ideas and has anyone got thier phone rooted on the new OTA?
Thanks.

Try getting back into CW recovery and let me know how that goes. If so then just download superuser and you got it.
No root
I can boot into CWR after using ODIN to put it on once and under voodoo controls app it shows my phone as being voodoo on all partitions, just don't have root. I knew the OTA would kill root, was just hoping thier was a quick fix out there like just flashing a kernel. The phone is pretty snappy though with imoysens kernel running voodoo and using ADW as the launcher. Like what I see so far.

Someone didn't read the instructions for properly installing the leaked OTA?
BEFORE YOU ODIN BACK TO EE4, MAKE SURE YOU HAVE THE SU FLASHABLE ZIP, THE OTA UPDATE AND IMOSEYON'S KERNEL ON YOUR SDCARD!
Make sure the update file is renamed to "update" and that it's on the root of your sdcard. (not in any folders or anything)
Odin back to EE4. Reboot normally.
Turn the phone off, then reboot into Stock Recovery and run the update.
Once the update finishes and the phone boots regularly. Reboot into Download Mode and plug the phone into the computer.
Start Odin, Uncheck "Auto Reboot", select PDA, NOT PHONE!
Click on the PDA tab and find your recovery file then click "start."
Once it is done and you see the word "PASS" on Odin, unplug the usb cable and press down all three buttons to boot into recovery (volume up, home, power)
Once in recovery, wipe cache, wipe dalvik, mount /system and flash the SU flashable zip.
Go back and wipe cache and dalvik again, mount /system again and flash the kernel.
After that, your recovery will stick and you're good to go. You are now rooted and running on EP4D.
Here is the flashable Super User zip. http://www.multiupload.com/V6R1RZJPXV

Did you install superuser? I bet you are rooted, but you don't have the tools installed to use it.

spc_hicks09,
Thanks sir, I started from CWR and followed the instructions and it worked! The original instructions I got yesterday didn't have any information on rooting, just on how to install the update. I appreciate the help and if the "spc" in your username represents a military rank, thanks for serving!

You're very welcome for the instructions! Yes the Spc in my name is my rank and thank you for your support!
most if not all root issues can be fixed by simply flashing superuser in CWM (you can get the latest .zip from the dev ChainsDD's superuser site), then downloading/updating it in the market if it doesn't show up
blazing through on my 4G Droid Charge
If interested, the CWM version found here is already rooted.

Friend's Phone Stuck in Recovery - Done for Good?

Trying to help out my friend. He rooted his Galaxy S 4G and was trying out different roms and now it's stuck in recovery. He brought it to me--I can pretty much fix anything Android--I've helped a lot of people on XDA, but this one has completely stumped me.
I've Odin'd several different Official Stock restore packages, recovery packages, etc. Everything has the same effect, no matter the rom or the recovery, the phone will always (re)boot back into recovery. Selecting reboot system reboots it back into recovery. No matter what. I must have flashed Stock via Odin about 10 times today. Same results every time.
Right now it's stuck in the 3e recovery screen. But I can flash a Voodoo recovery, but it still gives the same effect.
Does anyone have any ideas? Is there a bootloader sequence anyone knows about, that he may have changed? Any help is appreciated.
Thanks everyone!
Follow the guide in the second link of my signature to fix.
Awesome! That worked! Followed the guide. I had already flashed stock, but I didn't know you could flash the bootloaders using a .jar package. It worked. I guess he jacked with his bootloaders.
actually, bootloaders would corrupt boot period. You'd be stuck in a "FIRMWARE UPGRADE FLASH FAILED" screen, or phone won't boot period. So, I think I know what the problem was.
When hopping from roms to other roms, specially on Kxx Based Touchwiz roms, your cache tends to get corrupted. Had you reflashed cache.rfs and a stock zImage using heimdall, it'd fix the issue, and data wouldn't vanish.
