Just chiming in and giving my experience thus far.
Running bamf and loving it getting decent battery life even oced to 1.25ghz battery life is on par with my old Droid x. And no reboots as of yet, I live in a 3g area and love talk and surf on this phone!
2 biggies for me is sense and the screen there both awesome.
i myself am using thunderROM 1.0 which isn't to bad. favorite thing about it is the blue boot animation lol
I have been using Th3ory's ROMs and the battery life is much better than stock system - I am greatful that I rooted the Bolt and used this rom.
Happy Rooting.....
i to am loving this phone !! its the best thing ever lol, i love the 4g speed, i get it everywhere i go (bay area) this is also my 2nd android phone and i cant stop tinkering with it, forum hopping, streaming, texting, pictures...everything. running theory rom with extended battery o.c to 1.4 ghz rock solid stable, 17 hours off the charger im at 54% this is with moderate to heavy use =]

I am running Faux-AOSP-1.3.1 with the Trinity kernel 2.6.32.45 overclocked to MHz. I turned auto brightness off. I have profiles setup in setcpu for calls, screen off, charging, battery temp, and battery level all set to 1000MHz. I have a crap ton of apps installed and no live wallpaper. Yesterday I used my phone to make phone calls, text, emails, xda, download some apps, picture messaging, and Facebook. I woke up this morning and I had almost 20 hours on that charge. I think that is excellent battery life for a 2.3.5 ROM that is not Miui. I know Miui gets awesome battery life because I have used that before but I could not believe that I got this kind of battery life out of this ROM overclocked so much. The quadrant scores are between 4500-4900. I have yet to have a screen of death, reboot, or freeze on this ROM and I have been using it for the past 4 days. I just thought that I would share this with everyone.

I've always experienced outstanding battery life on Faux's AOSP 1.3.1 (he mentions there's a 1.3.2 in another post but i've been unsuccessful in tracking it down). I don't get those screaming quadrant scores you get but Faux's AOSP is a battery sipper!
EB 2.3.3 version 1.0.7
I got over 18 hours of battery life with charge, moderate use, and didn't have to do anything other than flash ROM.
Its about the only thing that sucks about CM7 based ROMS, battery life just terrible and a bunch of modifications are needed just to extend battery life.
Stock 2.3.3 based ROMS aren't so bad, except that Netflix don't work, Lock Screen doesn't have music widgets, and music player widget sucks.
I generally get around 20 hours with faux, too bad his kernel wont work in the new nightly yet
Hi ,
currently I'm running CodenameAndroid 3.3.0 on my Nexus S and everything runs smooth and works perfectly well for me, no doubts. But somehow I constantly get the feeling that the newer our operating system gets our batteries drain faster. Either this or my battery just gets old. However I'm searching for a Rom that has battery saving in main purpose. I dont care about playing games, the operating system or showing off how great my phone is. For this I have my Tablet The best solution for me would be a rom which is very low in batterydrain but as smooth as jellybean (maybe just port the transitions over). I know it might be hard to find something like this but is there any rom which matches my perception? Also a nice look would be cool, too ^^
I'm waiting for your responses!
I think you're looking for SlimBean. I'm on CNA too, the batter life is pretty bad
I tried SlimBean because I used SlimICS before but I miss too many features to change it back. Isn't there something else? Or which OS has the best batterylife in general?
i think gingerbread still has the best battery life.
androxide got me over 4hrs of screen time and a days usage with matrix
the new miui jb is also almost the same
IMO.....ICS's best battery life is on Kangy Ultra Ex 1.3 by DaXmax.
Just as long as u don't use Google talk since that's the ROMs only hiccup.
Then again like most will say.... its all depending on the user so hopefully it will help if u try.
I'm currently using the same developers JB ROM called paranoid Android..... so far it great but again I don't use all the newest features to much yet. I'm working myself slowing into the stuff.
Good luck

There is no ROM with super battery life, some better and some worst, very similar.
Most u can get from nexus s is +4hrs screen on.
And i don't care about those pathetic screen shots with +7hrs of screen on.
Fire up 3g/H stock browser, maps, music etc and we'll find out how good ur battery life is.
MIUI get's me aprox 4 hours and 50 minutes of on screen time. Lots of game playing, instant messaging, syncing, music, and social media (Instagram, twitter, tumblr.) And about 9 hours + when it get's to about 14%
EDIT: This is when using WIFI, not my 3G.

This question will produce every combo under the sun...but in the end no Real answer. Every phone/battery is different and how the person uses their phone. Apps installed, how much you use said apps, are the ram hogs, 2g, 3g, I could go on forever...just like this thread will if not eventually ignored or closed.
Closed, there is no answer to this question, the majority of battery drain will be the screen (depending on brightness) and whatever app you have installed and use.
Generally it's a matter of finding out what works for you.
Im running Viper XL and the reason i flashed it is because i heard it has above average battery life, but im getting maybe 10-13 hrs max. I've heard cases of 24 hr battery life, and I cant seem to achieve it. I am running Beast Mode Kernel and have the powersave governor. I am running Stock CPU frequency and have one core active. Am I missing something, because i got better battery life on paranoid android which kind of suprised me.
You really have to drill down on the tweaking and settings. Took me a bit to get what I wanted as well. I completely shut off Google Now, you can toggle off LTE and surprisingly, I raised my min cpu frequency to 594 and ondemand. Shut off HTC powersaver as well. Try a reboot after you tweak up all your settings. I think battery life was better on 2.4.1 but it's pretty well on 3.1 too.

I'm assuming you're running ViperXL 3.1. In that case, I'm surprised you're seeing such poor battery life. But, usage and settings are everything. Things like Google Now and GPS are major battery hogs. Facebook, Google+ and other push applications can also hamper battery life. Check your background sync frequencies! How long is your screen running? At what brightness? etc.
That being said, what strikes me is your kernel. You should not be using Beat Mode Kernel (last I checked it's not even optimized for the latest android version). I recommend you use the stock ViperXL kernel or Elemental v1.5.
I've ran ViperXL 3.1 yesterday with elemental v1.5 for more than 24 hours, 3 hours screen time while syncing 3 e-mail accounts. YMMV but with proper set up it's definitely possible.
Give us more information about your usage!
Alright, thanks for the information on the kernel, its a shame because i heard good about it. But as my screen time i run low brightness and im pretty heavy on texting, I used LTE for about 40 mins total today. can you tell me the way you disabled google now? I've been tweaking the settings a bit and i guess i just havent found my sweet spot.
Edit: And im running 2.4.1 actually sorry should of put that in first post.
Complaining about 13 hours of battery life. O__o

Not a complaint! I'm Just saying i've heard of better
Battery life is a very elusive thing. There are simply too many variables. For every ROM, radio, etc. where people will say they have much better battery life, you will almost certainly find others that have worse. Its just a fact of life with modding phones.
I've gotten about a day and a half on a single charge ever since the phone was released, and over 48 hours with later firmware versions (stock and custom ROMs) as of 2.2X and newer. Some folks can't even get through a half a day.

CleanRom 5.1 might get a little better, but I've had about the same battery life using Viper XL 3.1. A lot of the other things to look at are certain apps that seem to cause a lot of drain (depending on options). The most frequently mentioned are: Google Now, Facebook, and Maps. Other than that, lower brightness and shutting off LTE are the next biggest contenders.

i like sense 4+ wayyy better with the exception of all the BLUE its ****ing ugly because theres some green here and there and then there's some blue here and there.. it's a unpolished product that doesn't look all that great...
AS FAR AS PEOPLE COMPLAINING ABOUT BATTERY LIFE that's insane when i hear that I average about 18 hours of moderate use, 8-10 of heavyish use 4-5 of constant non stop use.
idk nothing about no choppy graphics either..
18h is low... Ive used my device average (lots of wifi/browsing, remote controlling PC etc) on this charge, 1d 11h 45min as I type this.. The battery is at 58%...

Of course not on sense. DarkJelly CM10 build 24 with stock CM kernel, no OC or UC.
I remember I got around 28-32h worth of batterylife on ViperS 1.2.1 (ICS) with zarboz kernel though. Still with no OC/UC.
Oh, and I dont run any of those crappy "battery saver" apps. I just make sure to kill tasks on a regular basis.
I'm running Liquid Smooth with the Bubba Kernel and my phone is lightning fast, no choppy graphics either. I too can't understand the complaints about battery life when there are so many things you can do to reduce the battery drain. I've played music for about 7 hours some talk time and web browsing and having the screen on for most of the day and and my battery was at 70% over 11 hours or so
nice

That's Nice... I just Made The Switch to TrickDroid 9.1.. I was About To go with viper until I read all the issues people are having..
TrickDroid Always Seems to please. its the only rom I ever used..(well the only one that's actually stable) and I do believe its better then ICS..
QS Benchmark gave me 6870!!!! Compared To ICS .. I was getting 5100!
Gave it a Full Charge__ now Lets see how The battery Treats ME,
insane..

That's Insane.. I couldn't ever get over 12 to 14 hours of use when I was on ICS..
Lets See how JB treats me.
and also.. are the non sense based roms better??? I actually like the sense widgets and all..
Sense has OK battery life but if my data is always on its worst .
I tried jb for a day but I had to go back to sense because of the camera, keyboard, and the auto data on off for mms
But I do love the dialer for ics and fullscreen id

Personally I'd say CM has slightly better battery life. My sense experience is only from stock JB rom, so can't really say about sense based cuatom roms. But with stock rom i got about 3:00 to 3:30 hours of screen-on time as with CM i got (and currently get) from 3:15 to 3:45. Depending a little on the usage of course. My use is mainly web browsing and some random gaming.

In my experience, the battery life was a bit worse in JB with Sense 4+, compared to ICS with sense. I believe that CM10 is a bit better than JB with sense and maybe as good as ICS with sense but it is really heard to say without doing controlled comparisions.
One thing I noticed was that in CM10 the phone was held awake for long period of times, mostly by MAPS application. But it looks like it does not have a detrimental effeect on battery life. It is just annoying to see that your phone is held awake.
AW: Battery life one Sense vs CM
I tried different Roms as Blackbeen or Liquidsmooth which both had pretty good battery lifes. Actially I am running Viper One S 2.2.0 and its battery Life is just awesome even with stock Kernel and minimum CPU of 384 MHz. It feels like its way longer than the others. Will try it with a custom Kernel and have a look if it gets even better...

I think with the various answers here, it's clear to see the difference is pretty small.
Having used both, I am struggling to actually remember which is better! Either one, if everything is behaving, will be good for 24+ hours of moderate use which is very acceptable by smartphone standards.
