[Q]What is the reason for EXT 4? - T-Mobile LG G2x

I'm fast from a noob, but I never actually understood the reason for EXT4. Could someone explain?
Sent from my LG-P999 using XDA Premium App

Well I'm just going to come out and say this... it's faster then ext3.

yea u definitly will notice ext4 based kernels are alot faster

Mmmm ok ok. But what's the difference? I can just load trinity Froyo kernel and it will bee EXT4? Cause I know that the stock its EXT 3
Crack powered G2X

yes if u load the ext4 kernel it will convert to ext4, and be much faster

Going to give it a try. nandroid then install!
Nividia powered G2X

I read before that you must backup an ext3 kernel to restore to.
And that every time you flash a new rom, you must first restore the ext3 kernel.
Is this still true? I read on the latest CWM patch notes and it says that you can flash between ext3 and ext4 and ext4 and ext3. Does this mean that there is no longer a need to restore an ext3 backup?

i tested this just to see i flashed an ext4 kernel over my ext3 rom ran the rom for a little bit then i flashed an ext3 kernel back over and rebooted everything went fine , then from there i did a restore of a backup i had and it ran fine, then to go even further i flashed the ext4 kernel over ext3 and restored a backup and everything was fine idk whu people are having problems but to answer your question i always do as u posted just because ive always done it like that and never had problems, so yea bro i would just do as u posted

Well I loaded up trinity kernel ext4 over stock. And man what a difference. Used top only get 2730 on quadrant. Now I get 3865. Do even though quadrant its not as accurate its a noticeable difference
Crack powered G2X

Alright, just made the jump to an ext4 kernel and wow this thing is speedy!
5,000 quadrant score!
I am using Faux 1.2.1_R2 and his 1.7 Ext4 kernel.

Nice job.how stable is it? I'm struggling with stock ROM. Runs thee best on my device!

Sounds like a faux quadrant score to me.

Does performance, and stability change with EXT4? like what I'm trying to say is does EXT4 cause more bugs r issues then EXT3? What kind of enhancement make it way better

You should be able to. Any of the kernels that work on nfinite's ROMs should work on this one as well. As already suggested, nandroid first!
i haven't applied the OC yet. what i noticed is the OC kernel isn't undervolted. i think i might just keep it at stock. honestly i haven't really seen a change in my battery life. im still about to go from about 7am to midnight or later on a full charge. so far so good. i dig it.

Sounds ok, i'm going to try this out to see how it runs, i've been running cm6 for a while, and Zenhero 2.0 so i'm still looking for the right one. I'd make one but I have no time.

If you do not understand the way processors work, you should not be overclocking your phone.
Also, this thread is about Quadrant scores not troubleshooting.
That said, you may find that the overvolt version may help your issue.

Looking at your sig, I'm intrigued. I'm running what you're running but I haven't attempted a kernal update.
No issues at all with Hydra Kernal? Easy to install?
Thanks for any input.

answering for him: very stable and installing a kernel easy as installing a rom.
btw, just updated
Got this with CM6 RC3.
1280 or so on SkyRaider 2.5.2 vanilla, but I am running stock speed undervolted kernel, so yesterday I had 13h+ of uptime/usage and 28% battery left yet before I went to bed. Seems like a worthwhile tradeoff

[Q] [q] anyone try i9000 roms?

i know the kernel and param.ifs are not compatable but has anyone flased a galaxy s rom with an infuse kernel? even on 2.2.1?
im curious if a gs gb rom would run on the infuse if we used a rogers based kernel. it seems sinse the rogers rom on an american phone has broken mhl anyway, why not try it? you could get call recording and other features and endless themes if it works.
Give it a shot lol when you brick it, give gtg's ultimate unbrick a try. At least you still have the manufacturers warranty if its totally dead. Its been stated in several posts that this will not work.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I997R using Tapatalk
Flashing a ROM that includes a kernel will clearly not work... But possibly removing all modem and kernel updates and JUST flashing /system... hmm... Not likely, but a system-only flash is the only thing likely to work.
But I'm sure someone would've tried CM7 userland-only already if that were the case.
Shouldn't need Ultimate Unbrick if you keep a CWM kernel.
Nope. Tried.
SGS II also.

It's based off the CM9 source code I would assume it would work, I'll flash them together for the hell of it and make sure. There is but doesn't appear to be updated with the new ICS kernel build

Oh okay and one more question. I'm running EaaglesBlood ICS rom right now, but I realize that it was kinda laggy in some areas so someone recommended me to flash Faux's kernel, I was wondering which Faux kernel to flash in the RootzWiki link and at stock or overclock/undervolt voltage.

best sgs4g rom & kernel combo

Just flashed back to stock from CM9 last night, because I got tired of bugs and reboots. Right now my sgs4g is on stock froyo and rooted. I want a reliable rom. What has been the best kernel/rom combo for you?
When I used CM9 I didn't get bugs nor reboots maybe a bad download?
Froyo is from the dark ages, I suggest you bump up to Gingerbread
My Signature has everything I run and I go days without a reboot and a day without a recharge. Everyones mileage will vary though.

I recommend barebone. I liked the theme and being on GB you get WiFi calling and two days of battery.

With the phone this old, the only way to make new again is to use ICS roms and above. Time and time again, I tried to go back to GB bare bone, I always ended back to ICS roms. I just missed out the modern UI too much to be using GB.
So here is my stable and good battery life combo: Ultragen and hefe kod. Just remember to fix permission after flashing hefe kod kernel or u might get a once in a while wake reboot when leaving the phone unattended. I don't know y, just an observation.
