Is there someway of rooting a phone directly from the phone? - HTC Inspire 4G

I have a friend who said another friend of his, taught him, but he forgot.
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App

With some phones its possible...but not the Inspire due to the downgrade during the rooting process.

It's not necessarily better, it was, at one time, simpler to use.
That's changed. The hack kit has gotten easier as of late. It was also the original rooting method and offers a level of precision in performing certain actions that bubby's doesn't allow for, if I'm not mistaken.
Either way, it's not going to be a one-click event, there are steps you need to do correctly or neither one will work, primarily the making of a gold card.

Yea there is no way to root from the phone for the inspire. As stated above you have to downgrade so a computer is necessary. I used the hack kit for my first root that wasn't a simple one click root. It was very simple to use. There are plenty of tutorials on it and its very self explanatory with those. I had a little trouble on windows but swapped to my mac and it went flawlessly. Good luck with rooting. Use xda its your friend and search before you ask. People tend not to be kind if the answer is easy to find. If you have any questions you cant find an answer for ask around here there are plenty of experienced people to help you out around here and are plenty of great devs. Good luck enjoy the inspire i know i do.

Support for the tb? I'm a new tb owner coming from the incredible. I'd rather root it that way than adb. Plus i have a mac. Adb is too labor intensive for me. Last time I tried rooting with adb was with my Eris and that was a headache.

YouTube it bro. There's a guy that goes step by step. Its hella intimidating but if you can follow directions then you'll be fine.

Well golly gee! That looks way easier than the method I had to use for my Eris a couple years ago. I think that I'm no longer discouraged... Thanks fellas...

I had hesitated as well but the manual method turned out to be easier than I was expecting. Just recheck ever command line carefully or cut and paste.

It's not going to happen. The rooting and S-OFF method is too complex and REQUIRES user intervention. No software is going to do that.

That's just ignorant and/or elitist. So someone not already familiar or comfortable with setting up/using ADB shouldn't be able to benefit from rooting? My father doesn't know anything about how Linux or Android work, should I have told him to just deal with the bloatware, etc.? Don't be such an ass.
Sent from my ADR6400L using Tapatalk
I dont think he meant that to be mean but its true if you don't have the slightest understanding of what your doing to your phone when you root it you are setting yourself up to mess something up. I'm way new to this and I spent hours and hours over two weeks reading everything I could find so I knew what was going on. And when I went through the process I was comfortable and when I couldn't get the custom firmware to flash I had the knowledge to figure out my silly mistake without freaking out or messing up my phone. But bottom line if you aren't willing to educate yourself enough to be comfortable with the things you said then no you shouldn't be rooting your phone.

In short, folks who root yet don't understand rudimentary things like adb are the same ones who are 100% reliant on others to fix their device when they break it.
Or, they perpetrate a fraud and dump it on Verizon.

Creating a gold card

Okay, I've done a lot of searching on creating a gold card to begin the root of my Inspire. I flashed my Tilt2 more times than I can remember but the process for the Inspire is a little confusing for me. So far I've been unable to find any type of guide or steps to create the gold card. All of the posts I've found hit all around the subject but none say how to do it, start to finish. Any guidance or recommendations would be greatly appreciated.
Check the sticky in the general section. It should help

Not it all...just read the begining steps in the effen manual...which is in the zip...and once you start its as easy as.....type the number 1, hit enter....do a little copy and paste and send an email, and a one more copy and paste...then type number 2, hit enter....after awhile...and maybe a reboot or two, type number 3 hit enter.....its that simple
EDIT: Those aren't the exact steps...I might have missed one more number 1, and enter....but its close..haha
Look. Its simple as downloading the hack kit. Open up the read me and reading it.

[Q] Need help with rooting for the first time

But I am on a mac and I can't find any good tutorials, if someone could please help me out, that would be great.

Yeah had mine for nine months too and also feels almost a year...hmm
I rooted my inspire on my MacBook pro using bootcamp on a fresh install of windows7 ultimate.
So you can try that and use the hack kit, since win7 is fresh there were no conflicting apps that the effen manual warns you about.Rooted just about under 5 minutes.

It works on Mac too. Just be sure to fully read the manual. Also make sure hack kit and its entire contents are extracted to the directory you will run it from, otherwise it won't work.

ya, selfishness and laziness cost us the person that gave us all the tool that actually let us do so much more with our phones not to mention his constant hours of support to help those with problems. xda really should be either a paid membership or invite only. the ppl too lazy to follow rules wont be missed if they cant access the forum. /endrant

It is always sad to see a valued member leave. I wasn't aware of his work as I spend most of my time in the atrix 2 forum.
Are there any other known methods for rooting the inspire? My gfs phone is nearing unusable with the constant reboots. I have yet to find any information on fixing that issue as well. She has only had the phone about a month. Any input would be appreciated.

Well, before rooting is always good to check that the device has no hardware issues. Try doing a factory reset and see what happens. Try pulling the sdcard and see how it behaves for a day.
If is still misbehaving, then take it to warranty....rooting will not fix hardware issues. Then, when u are sure that no hardware issues are the cause of the problems, come and visit us in the IRC channel in my signature...the Hack Kit is still there....

Also if I'm allowed to put my two cents in here... but charge to 100% and as it dies check the percentage if it reboots write down the percent. Do it until it dies fully charge it and repeat. If the numbers match up its the battery I had bought this phone used. It rebooted at 96% and 42%. Got a new battery and no more random reboots
