Boot animations - Thunderbolt General

Will boot animations from the EVO work on the thunderbolt?

Yes but they will not fit the screen properly.
Easy to edit it to fit though, just unzip and open the desc.txt file and change the first two numbers to "480 800" and you should be good. Just rezip files(make sure to change compression type to "store")

Definitely Easy enough. Out of laziness, any other phones boot animations that will work?

How do you replace your boot animation?

it depends on your rom, typically you just replace the bootanimation.zip file in your /system/media folder with the one you want.

Far as i know all android boot animations should work fine with just a little resizeing in the desc.txt. I know i used ones from my original droid one my thunderbolt when i first got it. The think about ones actually made for the thunderbolt though is that you can even have working audio with the boot animation if you format everything properly.
Me i have a nice little animation i made with some alex grey art work and "TOOL" - Vicarious playing while its booting up.

Is there a way to have this ported to the Hero? These are the best icons I have seen in Android so far (imho)
Mayb with some resizing the icons can b used in one of the roms 4 the hero
Sent from my HERO200 using XDA App
Well afaik the icons are changed by changing the apk and resigning. I don't know how to change the icons in the apk or resign, so I don't know how to do this... if someone were to do this, they could just make it a flashable zip to change the icons on almost any ROM (with the apps)
could ask him. Konib used to dev for the Hero
It would look better and take way less time if you either asked konib to do it or asked to have his originals so you could port it. Resizing indexed .pngs from higher resolution to lower resolution makes them look like crap. (not all but a lot of them)

How can you say its not even close to being true when Im sitting here staring at a GPS icon I took from the Droid X resized it to 25x25 and there are a few pixels that are out of place? Unless I'm doing it wrong... even then its still close to being right. And how can porting a theme from a higher res theme not be time consuming?

You're right. Theres no argument about the the depreciation of images when resizing. They get compressed. Its not a matter of opinion, or conjecture, its fact. If you are able to refute this, let me know.
Well to correct everyone, resizing will remove some of the clarity of the image. Scaling the image down will preserve the clarity to do this we start with a 38x38 image create a new blank 25x25 and paste the image in, then use transform to shrink the image down. This actually scales the full image to size. That is for photoshop . Fireworks also can accomplish this very well . This is just my experience after 7 years of PhotoShop

I have most of the icons resized. I can't finish until later today. I just have a couple to finish and put them into the apk's and make a flashable zip or I can create a metamorph file.

Metamorph please I have better luck with them not messing with any of my other mods.
I did what I could for now. I will make both a flashable zip and a metamorph theme. I haven't made a metamorph theme since they changed the program, but I should have something up either tonight or in the morning. And I am putting the icons in both the HTC apps(HTC dialer, mail, messaging) as well as the AOSP apps, because I am not sure who uses what.

I had some problems with some of them. I will have them on here before Noon tomorrow.

Droid Charge Boot Animation

Hey I was wondering if there was a way we can use the stock droid charge boot animation as a live wallpaper somehow? I love the boot animation and it would make a great live wallpaper.

^Thanks for the response first of all ( 68 views and only 1 reply LOL!). I'm glad you like it and I'm sure many others would want it too....but either they're too shy or lazy to respond.
Yeah mods please move the thread if you have to, but since the live wallpaper would require significant tinkering I thought I'd put in the Dev section to see if anyone was up to the challenge.
You can make custom animations on these devices so I know a Dev can certainly extract the boot animation. But coding that into a live wallpaper is the hard part. I am going to try to get JT on this and see what he thinks.
This is slightly off topic, but how about ridding of the boot animation altogether? I'd like blankness when starting (it would be cool if there was underlying text that the boot animation covers showing status or similar.)

From what I undersdtand, the stock boot animation is a .qmg file, and is locked so it can not be edited. There is a way to port it to other phones, by editing the init.rc file, but turning it into a live wallpaper would require unlocking the .qmg file.
Heres the thread with the information I was able to find.
Charge system dump thread
The bootanimaiton.zip can be used if the Kernel is modified to allow it.. I worked with IMNUTS a couple of nights ago on this.. Right now we are able to get the bootanimation to work but it never comes out of the bootanimation state..
hopefully when IMNUTS has more time he will give it another shot.

Well that is definately good news for using custom boot animations. I actually like the droid eye tho. I'd rather keep it.
Do you know of any way to get the stock boot animation decomplied, and create a bootanimation.zip for it instead of the .qmg files?
If possible, we could record the boot animation with a screen recorder and convert it into a live wallpaper.

It would need to capture during the boot process tho, I don't think thats possible.
Unless the HDMI out mirrors the boot screen. I could work with that.

I'm not too familiar how boot animations and live wallpapers are made, but I can imagine that you must be able to view the boot animation on your computer - how else would the developer that created it know what it looks like until he boots it up on the phone - and live wallpapers can probably be created using a video file. If I am right, someone would need to play the boot animation on their computer, capture it using fraps, and convert it into a live wallpaper. Sounds easy but it most likely isn't that simple.

The problem is, the boot anamation is contained in a .qmg file, and from what I read, it can not be played or changed using any programs that are readily available. I read somewhere that samsung makes a tool, but it costs $$.

Has anybody else noticed their boot animation go to **** after rooting? I rooted by the method of the Charge Kit, and now the animation is slow and jerky. Also, I saw this with lagfix both enabled and disabled.

It might be possible to view your boot animation through your TV via microHDMI, then you could possibly use a capture card to record it, then use the video file for the wallpaper or convert that video file to a .gif and use that for a wallpaper. I don't know, I'm not a developer it's just a wild guess.
BTW, for people with laggy boot animations it's the kernel not the ROM that's causing it. Just go to the market and download a boot animation changer. Allow it to change your boot animation and there you go. All fixed, since the kernel won't allow you to actually change the boot animation this will just even out the lag. Worked great for me and will only have to be re-done if you wipe data/factory reset. Actually, hold on I'm going to do a quick how to guide seeing as I've posted how to fix this like 4 times now

Android Eating Apple Boot Animation

hi guys. Im just wondering, i've seen a few videos on youtube of boot animations where an android eats an apple.
I'd love to put in on my HTC sensation, but im not sure if i can just use the animations that already exist, or if they need to be customized to fit the phone.

Hey guys,
The other bootanimation port was a little bit on the large side for me at 34MB, so I decided to do my own version of this animation.
I found the original clip on the web created by Benjamin Fleury.
I kept the original clip in it's original resolution and framerate, cropped it to qHD res with HTC boot logo for a more seamless transition, saturated the colors a bit more, added a looping load-wheel at the end, and exported as lossless .png sequence.
I was gonna pngcrush the animation for better compression, but I'm a noob at batch scripting and i didn't want to go through 230 frames manually.
*Sorry, the forums won't let me post a link the the original clip or a preview, attached is the zip file.
Let me know if you guys find it useful
Nice!

[BootAnimations][JellyBean]

The only reason Im making this thread here is because I tried 3 other JB bootanimations, and none worked, they either didnt animate or were stretched/distorted.
So I fixed these and tested them both. This is the glowing X animation. One is landscape the other portrait although the difference is trivial just colors rotated.
they are not CWM .zips, just rename to bootanimation.zip and set permission to rw-r--r-- , and put into data/local/
Enjoy.
Edit: pulled the original nexus 7 one from aniboot. Its set weird. The images were 772*484 and desc.txt was set to another strange dimension nearly double the resolution of the images. I did what I could with this one. I personally dont feel the effect they were going for with this animation. Kinda of a step down from ICS if you ask me. oh well, its only a boot animtion, very rarely see it anyways.
here is the one before the n7 OTA : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=akJb-rW1sLo
cheers.
which one is the best?
I prefer portrait.
unless you mean this X or the other one found on nexus 7. They both are really not that great. Ive seen the other one, but I'd have to see it on my device to choose.

[Q] [Solved] Bootanimation too much for CPU?

So I'm playing around with bootanimations and threw this one together. Problem is though, it's choppy and stutters.
Is this because the animation is too much for my CPU?
Any specs on having it nice and smooth?
Qkster? Andros?...............Bueler?
Not a huge deal, but would be cool.
Re: [Q] Bootanimation too much for CPU?
Well, first off, nice animation. My guess is that you have too many frames for too little of motion.
Sent from my SGH-I997 using xda app-developers app
Re: [Q] Bootanimation too much for CPU?
Good idea. I guess I'll try and take out every other frame. I just kinda figured that more frames = smoother, as long as I was under a certain amount. But what ur saying makes sense.
Attempt #2 coming up.

Build.prop addition:
Debug.sf.nobootanimation=1
Well, first I tried the build.prop modification from 0 to 1.
Unfortunately the animation wasn't visible during boot up. The phone still started fine, just blank screen where the animation should be.
Then I tried removing every other frame.
That made the animation and the stuttering run faster.
Thanks guys

Damn I should have known. I thought it looked like I was turning off the boot animation. But I just did what you said anyway.
Nice one. :good: You got me.
There was something in the desc.txt I messed up. An extra space or something. I got it nice and smooth now.
Only 14 frames and because the background was black anyway, I reduced the canvas size of the images to from 480x800 to 480x480.
Made the image size in the desc.txt file 480 480 also.
