[Q] 8GB SD Card Not Supported for Infuse? - Samsung Infuse 4G

Hi,
Does anyone know which SD cards are supported for Samsung Infuse 4G with AT&T? The 2GB SD card (FAT) that came with the phone works fine. I replaced it with another spare 2GB SD card (FAT32), which worked fine. But when I inserted an 8GB SD card, it could not read the card and also could not report the size of the internal card (about 13GB) either.
I reformatted the 8GB card a few times in FAT32, but no dice. I connected the phone to a PC via USB but the PC could not find either internal or external SD card in the phone. If I do this with a 2GB card, the PC can see both internal and external cards.
Is it simply that Infuse cannot read external cards larger than 2GB?
Thanks,
Cyanic Anubis

I use kingston 8GB and it seems to be fine class 4 microsd.

I have a 32gb card in mine. No problem.

My 8Gb works fine as well! I've used it on a BB Bold 9000 and 9700, Captivate, Atrix and Infuse...never had an issue with it.

Mine has random un mounts and I gotta power cycle the phone. 32gb micro sd. Any ideas or is the phone defective?

Try testing your sd card with h2testw. I can't post outside links, but you can get it from softpedia (version 1.4). It will test the card for errors and corruption, as well as the speed of the card.

Is this going to in the market or do I need to go top their website?

It's a windows application, so you download the application and run it on your laptop or desktop. The reason I recommend doing it is that a lot of 32gb cards sold online aren't really 32gb cards, even if they seem legitimate. If a card isn't the size it reports to the OS, then the data read from it beyond its real size is going to be lost, which can cause all sorts of weird behavior.

Resurrecting this old thread from the depths...
Good, with this info I can swap out my 2gb for an 8db class 4 I used in my old phone.

8 GB card
I am still using the 8 GB card that I bought for my last BlackBerry 3 years ago - so no problems here. I need to get off my duff and buy the 32 GB card so I can move more music there for all the freakin flights I have to take from the mountain time zone to Newark!

I use a Samsung 8GB card I got off eBay. Formatted to FAT32 .. works fine.
Once it gave me some trouble... luckily I had everything backed up else where.. so I just re formatted and no troubles since.

32 Gb on mine works great!

I watch movies from my 8GB class 10 SD card all the time. Would love to have a 32GB. I don't have any mp3's on it since there is Google Music, Subsonic and Pandora. These things have made the iPod obsolete.
I just got one of these in the OP today.
I've lost some data as it seems the card either has bad sectors, or it isn't really 32GB. Either way, things just looked like they copied until I put the card ibto my phone.
Back up your data before transferring to the card. Also, let me know how it turns out. Not sure if I want a replace or a refund.
Upon further review, it seems legit. I put 32GB of data on and it all stuck. I think transferring large amounts of data from the phone memory to the SD is what messed it up. Now to test the speed...
You don't seem to grasp that they're crap cards.
Enjoy it for as long as you can, but one day you'll notice that all your files are gone and we'll be here to tell you we told you so.
Newegg is having a sale on micro sdhc cards.

64gb micro sdxc card works in Infuse!

I got one yesterday ($79.99) and had to go BTS to get the phone to recognize it and format it (CM9 just told me it was a damaged card). It "sees" it as ~59gb.
I'm currently dumping my 4,227 song music library into it, with more to come once I upload all my LPs & 45s.

Does anyone have any idea why the specs for Infuse always say "up to 32GB" for the external SD?
Just curious. We now know thanks to people posting here that it's not true. But it sure seems to be a widely quoted phrase anywhere you find specs about our device. Weird.

Because at the time the Infuse was released, MicroSDHC was standard, and 32GB cards were extremely expensive, and "who in their right mind wants a total of 80 GB of storage on their PHONE? The MicroSDXC standard had not yet been invented yet, so by default it was not supported, (Froyo). At that time when our phones were still being made "Up to 32 GB" = "Everything known that fits in the phone is supported".
I want to see somebody try a 128GB memory card, just to see if it works in the Infuse, (anybody rich out there that wants to run an experiment?)

Man, that phone sounds like it is going to be awesome! But why is everyone going to this internal memory thing only, rather than having an SD slot for extra external memory?!
I'm gonna go crazy!
Sent from my ADR6400L using xda premium
If they make it internal its one less thing they have to worry about breaking. Plus they don't have to provide a memory card which is probably a lot cheaper making it internally. Lastly I think it may be a measure to prevent or slow down rooting.

You're a bit off. Why allow for removable storage? If you have a set amount and cannot change your SD card, you now have a hard space limit you never had before. When you can't store anymore on any device people look to cloud technology. We all have data plans so we can all use it. Now tell me, who provides cloud technology? Google has drive and Play Music, and they now offer movie rentals through the play store. If I can't store a movie file on my phone I'd be more inclined to rent and purchase my video files from them.
That is the reason why SD cards are being phased out. It allows for the advancement of cloud services which would hopefully lead to greater profits for companies such as google(and some manufacturers have their own cloud storage services or a partnership with a storage provider).
Yea that makes sense. Never looked at it that way.
Sent from my Thunderbolt using Tapatalk 2
It also gives them the ability to release new versions with larger internal memories every few months. Because they know there are a lot of suckers out there who will pay to trade up. A trick learned from Apple no doubt.
Look at what Moto is doing with the Razor. Same concept.
Sent from my ADR6400L using xda app-developers app
A major flaw with that idea is that if internal memory fails you're screwed. If an SD card fails it can just be replaced. It would suck hard to have to send a phone in because the internal memory failed.
Sent from my Thunderbolt using Tapatalk 2
Crackable bootloader, 4G, removable battery and SD card storage, and unlimited data.
The T-bolt, despite its many flaws, has it all. I'm looking to stay here for as long as I can, because I like doing things on my terms.
In early January I get the privilege of lining Verizon's pockets for a newer, but ultimately more limited, device. No thanks. Contract ends in May, and I'll take a hard look at service providers then.
Until then let's keep on Verizon and HTC to honor their end of the thunderbolt bargain.
PS- The thread title almost made me think the OTA dropped. Almost.

I think its highly unlikely for an internal memory to fail. Phones and tablets are being designed more and more with just internal memory. Even if something goes wrong your still likely to just enter bootloader and then recovery and restore to a previous build. For example: The N7 is built w/ internal only and no one seems to have problems with it so far.( Knocking on wood) as I speak lol

All I'm saying is that from what I recall, the Sandisk one worked. I don't know if others will or will not, if there is something different in the card electronics that makes it work, or that all will work. Buyer beware, I guess.
My personal experience has been that formatting the card as FAT32 produces errors after a week or so of usage. I loaded about 40gb of music on the card, after a week my music files were not accessible (card errors). Reformatting and retransfering solves this, but who wants to do that once a week?
I know that recently, exFAT format support was added to CM10.1, however I lost my card so I'm unable to test it out for day to day usage.

Have had the 64gb card in for over a week now, no issues. It simply might have been a faulty card. Works as both exFAT and FAT32, although Windows doesn't play well with exFAT so I recommended FAT32.

Yes. SanDisk is a quality product, although if its not on sale, you could probably save a few bucks and get a PNY class 10 card... Anything over Class 6 is just a waste of money in this phone though unless you are going to use it in an external reader.

Why is it not a waste? The phone can't read/write to the external SD card any faster than Class 6 speeds, probably closer to Class 4 speeds. That is why phones in this era only came with Class 4 cards from the manufacturer. If you get a faster card there is no gain, you are just paying for something you won't use. Unless you are going to use it in an external card reader capable of higher speeds, safe the few bucks.

I transfer tons of files back and forth. It uses every bit of the speed.

Yes, a long time ago I posted the transfer speeds and the random read/write. They were all above spec for a class 10 and much higher than the class 4 or whatever you guys are trying to sell me. Lmao.

That's good to know :good:

256GB micro SD card.

Someone should try this and tell us if it works with the Z5.

Do you mean the sd-card model or the size?
According to review ( http://www.gsmarena.com/sony_xperia_z5-7534.php ) and specification, 256gb will work. I suppose you just want to hear from someone who tested it in real life.
Also z5 is the first phone that support 256GB
So here is your answer my fellow member...
I mean size and real life testing, I'm interested but what if is slow or overheats?
Thank you very much.

A slow SD card is the SD card's manufacturer fault. And how would it overheat..?

Sometimes when I record some 1080p 60fps videos it'll eventually overheat, but I'm not sure if that's the phone or the micro SD card...

Do you even know what a micro SD card is? It's a little memory card that you put into a device. I'm not sure how you think that it could overheat...

I think that has something to do with your Micro SC Card, any details such as Brand? Speed Class? UHS Class?

I only use a 64GB Samsung MicroSDXC Card but according to the data sheet it supports up to 256GB micro sd cards
mate, sd card performance is dependent on various factors.
it's difficult to get consistent performance as:
1. The ROM you used may have a low read ahead cache
2. SD card capabilities.
3. the size of file you are moving
4. the file of the sd card you are using i.e exfat, ext2, ext3, ext4
to many variables can affect sd card performance. i say throw caution to the wind and get that 256gb card. i never gave too much thought when i bought my 200gb card.
