[Q] E:unknown volume for path [ext-sd] - General Questions and Answers

This is the error reported before doing wipe/dalvik cache.
E:unknown volume for path [ext-sd]
How can i fix this?
This error appeared after installing Juwe's Smart Edition 4.3.2.1 from a clean JVH.
(Before install JVH I made a SD format from settings)
Thank you.

That error always appears in recovery when wiping davlik. Not an issue.

Ok, thank you.
And there's no way to fix it?

same issue here
I was also having that same error as well...I hope that senior member is correct...
but I believe its because you may not have have a partitioned sd card!!! See sd-ext is what the recovery determines as a partitioned space in your sd card. If you dont have one it will read an error or skip it. If your using amon ra you can have it skip the sd-ext. Amonra 2.3 has fixed that error. Just a piece of code running and actually doing nothing! Now theres a hook written in to skip it if it doesnt find sd-ext.

I'm using a Samsung Galaxy S (GT-I9000) and, from what i gather, i couldn't use Amonra with this device.
I normally use ClockworkMod 2 or 3. But i could also use recovery2e or 3e.
Do you know some method to fix this problem using this recoveries?
Thank you.

It is not really considered a problem. Your davlik cache is being wiped correctly. This has been discussed and looked into extensively in the MT4G forums. It is just something with Clockwork. But like I said, not an issue.

Help with recovery image!!!

Yes I have searched for an answer but cannot find one. I am rooted but decided to update my 1.2.3 to the 1.5.2 recovery image. I am going back through the steps in the wonderful guide "theresthatguy" put out and when I try to push the image to the card it says that it is a read only file system. So now what? I tried just moving it over in Windows then flashing it but it says file not found when I do that. Help anyone?
Really? I figured this would be easy for someone or are we spending to much time on all the drama. Just looking for help. This is what forums are for right? Sharing knowledge.

format your card and make sure your rooted first.
sorry your being neglected buddy
im trying to wade through the threads and help sort out the problems
are you using the flashrec method? thats the easiest way.
hope i helped.
You can also just mount the sd card and copy and paste. There is also a newer recovery image out. 1.6.2
I have never been able to use the push to sd method I just move them to the sd card through win and then continue as far as not being able to see it you need to make sure that you
Code:
cd/sdcard/
flash_image recovery recovery-RA-heroc-v1.5.2.img
wait till you get # then
Code:
reboot recovery
I would suggest going to 1.6.2 though
Thank you for the replies. I did the flashrec method origionally because I was having the same problems. Now the flashrec just shows an error and cannot do anything with it. I tried reloading with no luck. I did a format but maybe I messed it up. I didn't know which one to do.

^ go there and follow everything, step by step.
I am rooted. I get a # when connected to adb. I guess I will just keep messing with it. I am going to try the 1.6.2 though. Thanks. By the way? how do you format your card? I don't see that option.
I'm reading this of my phone so there may be a solution already, but here is another idea.. If you can get to tyre market.. Download ROM manager, flash their recovery image from within the app
then towards the bottom there is an option to flash the 1.6 RA.. It worked on my wife's phone when I couldn't get adb to work loading 1.5 RA

also if you flash a rom that supports app2sd make sure you format and partition your sd card in recovery as well. you want swap/ext2/fat, you can allocate the size for each.
me i have 96mb swap / 1024 ext2 / and the rest in fat

no go into recovery and create a partition. it should go in order of swap/ext2/fat. you can also convert your ext2 to ext3 or 4 as well. are you saying it isn't giving you that option?
Correct. I don't have a create partition option. Hoping to get that with new recovery image.

[Q] Accidental Wipe Recovery

Accidentally wiped my sdcard after wiping my entire system while installing Virtuous 1.29
Is the only way to push a new zip with the ADB terminal?
I installed the HTC Sync drivers, do i need to install the Google ones as well?
Don't have a lot of time on a computer so links would be helpful, or else i would try and search.

I don't understand why you can't put a zip on your sd card.
Maybe I'm not completely understanding your predicament. Are you saying you don't have a functional phone due to something going wrong with the unity flash?
Was actually going to put my phone down and get on da puter to post links and help you out....ran outta time though, sorry man.
Try putting the rom on another sd card or taking the current one out of your phone and transferring the rom to the card via an sd card reader. That would be the easiest way. When wiping you can wipe cache, data/factory restore, dalvik cache in advanced, and you can also format system. Don't try doing anything else because you can end up in trouble like you are now. If you can transfer the files like I described it would be the easiest way for you.

From what I understood, he was going to install the virtuous rom, but he was wiping everything first before install. Unfortunately, he also wiped his sd card and now he only has recovery with no rom or backups to flash and no operating system to go back to.
you can mount your phone with recovery.. or you can use an adapter... or as said above another sd card..
Mudknot is correct. I have mounted through recovery before but it was a long time ago. Maybe he or someone else could walk you through it. It was not hard to do.

mount USB storage
pretty self explanatory

SD Card Error Message

Code:
[B]E:unknown volume for path [/sd-ext] [/B]
This is the error I get using Revolutionary and am flashing a new rom using the 'correct' method spoken of here.
This error message occurs after I've wiped Dalvic Cache. The phone still performs as normal without any issues. But I'd like to get rid of this error if i can.
Can anyone help with this or has anyone had or seen it before?

Try re-formatting the sd-ext partition using 4EXT recovery. Failing that, backup your entire SD card contents and re-format the whole thing, then copy your files back. I had a 512MB EXT3 partition on my card for ages from my old Desire days and A2SD+ ROMs. Never got your message but that's what I would try.
Isn't that SD partition? I also have that (when flashing, or doing backup) and I thought it was normal coz I don't have partition of my SD.

Thanks for your answers guys.
@wnp_79 I always format my sd card when i flash a new rom.
@MarlIX I'll try formatting again and making a partition using the whole sd card size to see if it solves it.
I guess that it depends on situation in which you're extending main partition with SD card (as HTC Desire users have to do in order to install ROM which doesn't fit on internal memory). In normal cases you'll have such warning because you don't have extended partition on SD (But someone please correct me if I'm wrong)
ah ok so i shouldnt worry about it then really unless the rom i want to flash requires extended partition?
I can make a partition on Revolutionary i get these options 128m,256m,512m etc etc and then i brings up a menu saying swap size 0m,32m,64m,128m or 256m.
Any guesses on the best way to set my card up?
If you are not using it then use either choose the smallest size, our use 4ext recovery to remove it.
Whenever i did it, a 0MB swap was just fine.

I see an option to remove all partitions and start from scratch so next time i flash i'll select that and maybe that will sort it out.

[Q] Possible for ROM to be applied "half way"?

I'm new to flashing ROMs on the EEE Pad, but not new to flashing ROMs in general...have a Samsung Galaxy Skyrocket that I have flashed probably 50 times alrerady. That being said...I'm confused. I rooted my tab and flashed a ROM. It looks like the flash worked because checking the version in "about" shows the new rom. The strange thing is that all the apps I had installed prior to flashing are still installed. I followed the normal steps...factory wipe, format cache, data, system. Does this make sense to anyone? It feels as if some of the rom flashed and some didn't. Any help would be appreciated.
PS...I would have posted this unter the ROM's thread but since I am new to the forum I can't until I have 10 posts.
Examples of this are pandora (including my login info)...email accounts, facebook accounts, etc
are you positive you wiped your data? if you did, everything should be gone.
Well...I ran a super wipe script that was part of the rom download now that you mention it. I'll give it another go but wipe by hand and see what happens.

aha! I bet that is it, I have heard people saying not to use the super wipe scripts. I don't know much about it but I'm nearly positive that's the problem.
it may also depend on if you are using the full wipe which does internal memory or the light which i believe leaves your apps untouched

You cant use superwipe if you got a recovery that only reads from internal memory (/mnt/sdcard/), as superwipe will also wipe your rom file, leaving you with nothing to flash.

oh so that's the only reason? not because it doesn't work right or something?
Btw does the Rogue CWM let you backup/restore from a USB External Drive? or just /Remoable/MicroSD/ ?

As far as I know, yes thats the only reason.
The version Im using only allows internal (/mnt/sdcard/) and external (/removable/microsd), there might be some version that allows USB as well, but I doubt it tbh.
Thanks for the responses...I figured I would skip the superwipe and just do it all by hand. All good, but ran into a new problem. Apparently I don't have the option for mounting an external SD card. It's installed and when booted into the OS I can see it and everything, but the mount option is missing from clockwork recovery. This is both with the touch version (5.8.1.8) and the non-touch version (5.5.0.4). Luckily the manual wiping didn't clear out the internal SD card so I was able to just restore my nandroid backup.
A - anyone have issues with the "mount sd-card" missing in CWR?
B - Apparently the tablet version of ICS installs apps to the internal SD card so doing a wipe doesn't really clear out all the apps. Does that sound right?
Both those CWM versions does not support external SD card afaik. Only internal.
That would be why then I guess. Doh! I'll check around but I didn't see newer versions that worked with the tf 101. Thanks for the reply!

I use cwm 5.0.2.7 [via RecoveryInstaller.apk], and I have had no problems, I can mount my MicroSD

System/Ext-SD not mounted, can not master reset at all.[Please Help]

I recently got Motorola Xoom 4G LTE, Previous owner had CM10 running on it. He reverted to stock with no root. The tablet has custom recovery. But every time I try to flash something. It says sd/ext-sd/system are not mounted. I tried to master reset the table but it doesnt. If I do it from settings>backup and reset. It takes me to recovery all the time. If I try to do it from recovery. it says system, ext-sd, sd are not mounted.
Any help will be appreciated.
It would help if you can tell us what recovery you're using. You might have to mount the system and ext sd partition yourself.

Thank you for replying. Actually I was able to fix it. I was missing an sd card. For some reason xoom would not master reset unless I put my micsro sd card in there. I have never encountered this type of problem before. Currently I have CM10 running and everything seems good.
Do you have any idea why it would so that?
