Asus MyWater Animated Wallpaper Fix - Eee Pad Transformer Themes and Apps

Can Anyone fix these so they run/install on the transformer? Do you have to have root access?
http://www.xoomforums.com/forum/mot...lavors-mywater-livewallpaper-transformer.html

u need to uninstall the preloaded one from the tf and i think it is in system/apps so yes u would need root acess to uninstall that, and then u can simply install those. other devices dont need root to install but u need it because u need to replace the application which was preloaded.

installed the beer one with the lime, those are sweet, thanks for the link!

No need to uninstall the original, just push the new one to system/app using adb, you can only have one at a time.

MyBeer Live Wallpaper w/ No Root Required
I would like to start by addressing the previous posts in the thread to clear up any misconceptions.

It can be done, but I'd rather not "fix" all of them. When properly modified, root access is not required. I will provide an overview of the process below.

This is not necessarily correct. When modified properly, root access is not required nor is removing the original.

This is my favorite too, so I thought I would modify it to work on my non-rooted Transformer.

When properly modified, you can have more than one at a time. However, each one requires a unique package name.
Now for the good stuff...
Upon seeing the excellent modifications Ruvort had done to the Asus MyWater live wallpaper, I instantly wanted one. However, my Transformer is not rooted and I did not want to lose my existing MyWater wallpaper. I decided I would find a way to make it happen.
I downloaded Ruvort's beer with lime live wallpaper from the xoomforums thread, took the apk appart using apktool, tossed in a new icon, changed a few text strings, changed the package name, re-built the apk with apktool, and then signed the new apk.
The resulting MyBeer live wallpaper happily coexists with the default Asus MyWater live wallpaper on my non-rooted Transformer.
The following commands can be used to install/uninstall the attached apk via adb:
Code:
adb install MyBeer-Signed.apk
Code:
adb uninstall com.mybeer.livewallpaper

An improved version of the Beer w/ Lime live wallpaper can be found here.

will you be re-modifying more?

I'm sure most people know this but you don't need adb, you can just download straight to your transformer and click on the downloaded file to install it. Don't forget to check Settings / Applications / unknown sources

I hadn't really considered it because I don't want to appear to be high-jacking Ruvort's work, but I might entertain the idea of doing a couple more. Any specific requests?

1. They already work. Get root explorer go to system/app and move my water to your micro sd card for backup.
2. Get th live wallpaper you downloaded and put it in system/app and then install it.
3. Go to the plus icon onyour home screen and then go to wallpapers and select yourlive wallpaper.
4. Enjoy!
NOTE: after installing the first one you can just go ahead and install the other ones. This will overwrite theold one withthe new one. You can only have one at a time.
Hope this guy who made the wallpapers continues his great work.

I wouldn't consider it hijacking Ruvort's work, merely adding to it so long as you give him credit for the underlying work. Then again I'm no android dev. so those unspoken rules may not apply here in XDA (although I've since instances of this in the Epic thread).
I'd say remaster them all so that the option is there for us to have more than just one at a time. Maybe write a newb guide to do so?
Thanks.

Xda is all about piggybacking and modding others ppl work. Just gve credit where its due and it is all good.

Theres one called my yellow submarine from another guy for the Xoom and uses the same Transformer style LWP. like the Beatles yellow submarine song/art style
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1086488
Maybe even the Shirley Temple one from Ruvort? it has a nice ice/cherry and red color effect

These are great...and that Yellow sub one is great...but I have one issue.
I can only load one at a time and only by naming the old ones to name.old and naming the one I want to use to MyWater.apk
Otherwise it doesn't show up as an option.

I've been in contact with Ruvort and will work toward providing versions of these live wallpapers that can all be installed simultaneously. It really only takes me ten to twenty minutes to "fix" each one.
I might even provide a guide for those interested in creating their own.

Thank you TS!

That would be awesome! I am familiar with all android stuff. If you put up this guide it would really be great. I mostly have free time so i would be able to get some new live wallpapers out. Please post this guide/tutorial.

I have started a new thread here with a few additional reworked live wallpapers. I intend on providing some instructions for those interested in making their own modifications.

Just extract LiveWallpapers.apk from his ROM by unzipping it. Navigate to /system/app then open a command prompt:
adb remount
adb push LiveWallpapers.apk /system/app
Once you add it, select the live wallpaper then settings and you can chose "sexy nexy".
(I'd post it but I'm not sure if its warez or not.)
installed easy just follow the directions

adb remount
adb push livewallpapers.apk
i got it to work by doing
adb remount
adb install -r livewallpapers.apk
work first time like that, just incase anyone else tries and couldn't get it too install the push way.
Looks sweet with the new color schemes available. I would love an option for a black background.

Does anyone know how I can get this turned into a live Wallpaper...
I was pointed to some information about programming - but it was beyond my skill level
Welp, dumb dumb here, I put the apk on my sd card, and just installed it from AndroZip instead. Once it was done installing, I click Done, and them *poof* phone restarts.
Back in phone, background is black.
Clicking Live Wallpapers from the menu causes a FC.
Just giving a heads up to others that try to cheat and be lazy.
And looking for some advice on how to fix this!
Thanks!

Restore to the Nandroid you *hopefully* made before installing it? You could also try the push adb method, which worked for me, and maybe it will overwrite what you installed.

Try this
Code:
adb remount
adb pull /system/app/LiveWallpapers.apk LiveWallpapers.apk
That will pull your old Live wallpapers. Put those where you can find them later and put the new LiveWallpaper.apk in your <sdk>/tools folder (because you can't have two files with the same name in the same directory).
Then proceed as directed in the first post.

No settings. Just the option to save it. You can probably change the back ground though by pulling apart the .apk
** EDIT **
Okay, so I tried opening the apk and replacing the droid_bg.jpg only to find out whatever I replace it with comes up as a blank white screen (I even sized it to the odd 1025x1025 size the old one was even though both of them had large white areas in the .jpg). If anybody else wants to give it a try, I am attaching the wallpaper I was trying to use. It is the default regular wallpaper from the Droid X

I'm a total newbie, so I haven't rooted yet. I don't think I'm considered a "power user" yet, so I didn't want to accidentally brick my phone. I came over from blackberry, so I'm still getting used to this new system. Soon enough I'll be getting my hands dirty with this rooting business.
Anyways, I don't have the ability to pull the original Live Wallpapers... would it be possible for someone else to pull theirs, and post the APK online for me? I've been using "AppInstaller" to implement all of the APK's I've downloaded. Just been playing around with the Galaxy S LWPs. If it's a hassle, don't worry about it. I'll figure root soon enough.
Thanks for the quick reply, by the way!!
Can someone upload a version thats not .apk so i can download it on my phone, im at work
standalone version
Credit to ccunningham83 for posting this.
Standalone version
This is what I did:
decompiled,
changed the package and app name,
removed LWPs that install by default,
rebuilt,
signed
updates:
1)removed unnecessary images too, file size now 1.1MB
2)added Blue, Cyan, Green and Golden eyes!
3)added a blue eye version with alternate background.
4) 7/15/10, added grey version by request.
5) 8/30/10, by request added a red version with black background. No smoke.
6) 9/15/2010, by request added a new red version with the smoked grey background
7) 1/20/2011, green eye with colored smoke
Screenshots:
To uninstall:
Code:
adb uninstall com.android.wallpaperx
APK attached, install as normal.
MediaFire Links:
[blue] [cyan] [gold] [green] [red] [blue-alternate bg]
[grey]
[red-greybg]
[green-colored smoke bg]
Here is a video by myghtymouse19 showing all versions on an EVO:
I had issues trying to remount so copied the file to the root of SD then used Root Explorer to copy and paste as R/W into /system/apps/ then click on the the apk and install it... then youll have it. Also even though you overwrite the default wallpapers, this file is the default wallpapers file with one file added the droid x eye lwp, thats all... so your not loosing anything.
Thanks Britoso! Works great!
Brilliant work guys, especially britoso.
Just adding that this also works fine on the Desire. I just used Astro to install britoso's .apk and it worked fine. It even kept all my current Live Wallpapers and just added DROID X to them.
Hope no-one minds but I made a post in the Desire forum pointing to this thread to share the love!
Thanks again,
Oz
Well it got 4 views, but now link to the attachment is broken....any particular reason, Britoso?
EDIT: Nevermind, back up. Thanks

well i asked a question right before you posted "answer:" and your "answer:" had nothing to do with my question. what an @$$h0le you are. or atleast made yourself look to be. anyways, its not a big deal.
You can follow these steps to pull the smoke news widget out of the smoked theme mentioned. These steps also apply for the news widget. A lot of the time I do not have ADB accessible and this method can be completed with only the phone.
- Save the smoke.zip file to your sdcard (this is the smoke theme already mentioned in this thread)
- Open Root Exporer and navigate to /system/app/ and mount it as R/W
- Move the stock geniewidget.apk to the SD card (/sdcard) in case you want it back later.
- Now navigate to the smoke.zip file, press on it and choose view.
- Navigate to the smoke.zip /system/app/ folder and copy the geniewidget.apk to your phones /system/app folder.
- Most important part now - long-press on the file and click on permissions from the pop-up menu. Permissions should be "read" for user/group/others and "write" for only user. All other boxes unchecked. If you don't do this it wont load.
- Restart phone and the transparent widget should be good to go.
This wont work for all apps - so make sure to keep the originals if you are getting creative. You can apply this across handsets, but try to stay away from system-dependent apps like cameras and power control widgets.

Anyway, he updated the app again so anybody who decided to use the app in the link i posted, go and update. =)
I'm just about ready to give up. I have been trying for a couple of days to make mine look like the pick I posted. Can't seem to get it done. It's really not that important, just thought it would match the other sense widgets a little better.
This is as close as I could get. For some reason I cannot get rid of that blue background in the widget, must not be editing the right file.

Read my guide, pay attention to the "creating a flashable package" part, basically to alter any file/folder on your phone you would simply need to place the file/folder in the appropriate folder structure within that zip, then flash. (This is all done while the package is still in the .apk format, you would need 7zip to open it and do the editing while it's still packaged, you never extract)
It'd be easiest for you to just go back to pick and pack, then flash the puzzle lock - that would get everything else back to stock that isn't themed.
I figured that would be the easiest route but Im feeling froggy and want to do it the hard way.i'm about to start digging into your guide now.

If you can find a swype that has been themed for another phone, you should be able to easily port it to the pnp version with theme porter, then add that APP to my puzzle lock theme and flash. Let me know and I'll include it in the theme.

Yea, I tried pulling the widgetlocker .apk from my phone, editing it and pushing it back and it dissappeared from my app drawer, so I'm still learning about those issues.
You guys could port that swype keyboard to pnp (using my guide) and create a package that only flashes that app to your phone... once i'ts ported it could be added to any existing theme's too.

As you know, I know nothing about themeing but when I tried to just overwrite the .apk file it gave me an error saying that the app wasn't designed for my phone (or something like that) and would have limited usability. And then came the onslaught of the FC loop. Would making this a flashable install fix that or is it because the app itself just doesn't work with our phones?

that's why we have to port them to the pnp version first, it just copies all of the .png files to our version (that already works on our phone) then you would be able to replace it through root explorer (or make a flash package) sounds like you were trying to use the .apk from the other phone? Never do that btw

LOL Yeah I learned that lesson. Thank God for nandroid backups. It actually wasn't that bad just couldn't use the Swype keyboard anymore (even after putting our .apk back on). Maybe I'll give your guide a try. It kind of intimidated me the first time I read through it but maybe just pulling a single app will be a good way to start.

Skip reading the part about framework and decompiling. App's are wayyy easier, you should be able to just use theme porter (as long as the folder names within the theme'd version matches what's in pnp's version, should have -v4 i believe so you may have to rename those in the theme version.) Or you could manually move the .png's by opening each one in 7zip side by side.

Should be

ICS Roboto font

You can find the new Roboto font here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1309619
I recommend that if you're not going to install the font yourself using a file manager, don't use the flashable version -viperboy- has provided. Instead use the one mackster248 has posted in the 5th post under this one.
There you will also find the /system and /system/apps folders, but for now they're not very usable. They currently can't be deodexed with current tools.
On a side note, for those using a file manager to change fonts, here are some general instructions:
1. Ensuring you have R/W permissions to edit system files, copy the Roboto family of fonts into the /system/fonts folder.
2. Keep backups of your current fonts you plan on replacing (DroidSans family) by renaming their file types to .orig (For example, DroidSans.ttf becomes DroidSains.orig).
3. Change the fonts you plan on using into the names of the fonts you just changed to the .orig file type (Roboto-Regular.ttf becomes DroidSans.ttf).
4. Make sure to change the permissions of each font to rw-r--r-- once you've renamed them. if you don't know what I mean by that, make the permissions identical to the other fonts found in the folder.
5. Restart.
Be careful when doing this, if you do it incorrectly, you'll be stuck in a bootloop and will have enter the recovery to re-install the ROM to replace the system files again.
Thanks! I installed the replacement fonts after taking a suitable backup, just in case. It replaces three fonts in /system/fonts: Clocktopia.ttf, DroidSans.ttf and DroidSans-Bold.ttf. I think the difference is subtle on a per-character basis but taken together, I find it more easily readable. I did a side-by-side comparison and found that the characters in some cases are a little bit larger.

No problem. I'm really big into typography and I'm really enjoying this font. Windows Phone 7's font Segoe comes in a close second though, and I wish I could find a usable version of Nokia Pure.
Love this font! Switched from Segoe n they're similar but this is so neat

Here's a flashable zip for our G2x's, for some reason the other one wouldn't work on a G2x because of it's update script.

All credit goes to Tiger13 for this one.
I tested it and works.

Thanks for posting. I've updated the original post to guide them to your link.
Is it just me or does anyone not see a huge difference? Maybe I'm just blind.

The differences are many, but all mostly subtle. I worked for a newspaper and page design/typography grew on me a lot so I notice the little things.
If you're not that much into typography, I can't blame you, it wouldn't appear much has changed.

You make a good point, but like myself, there are those who know they don't need to install another app when their familiar with use file managers to change system files.
For someone who is familiar and confident with how to do it themselves, the steps should take no more than 2 minutes, that doesn't like much work to me.

Agreed. That's how I learned all of this back in the G1 days. Which was either commands via Terminal or switching out files via Root Explorer, so I never even knew there were apps that do all of those things for you these days.

Well I'm in business studies right now. So it's kind of whatever font makes everything look bigger
But yeah it seems like a subtle change I'm sure I notice it subconsciously!
This font really is great, thanks for making it available.
