Read my guide, pay attention to the "creating a flashable package" part, basically to alter any file/folder on your phone you would simply need to place the file/folder in the appropriate folder structure within that zip, then flash. (This is all done while the package is still in the .apk format, you would need 7zip to open it and do the editing while it's still packaged, you never extract)
It'd be easiest for you to just go back to pick and pack, then flash the puzzle lock - that would get everything else back to stock that isn't themed.

I figured that would be the easiest route but Im feeling froggy and want to do it the hard way.i'm about to start digging into your guide now.

If you can find a swype that has been themed for another phone, you should be able to easily port it to the pnp version with theme porter, then add that APP to my puzzle lock theme and flash. Let me know and I'll include it in the theme.

Yea, I tried pulling the widgetlocker .apk from my phone, editing it and pushing it back and it dissappeared from my app drawer, so I'm still learning about those issues.
You guys could port that swype keyboard to pnp (using my guide) and create a package that only flashes that app to your phone... once i'ts ported it could be added to any existing theme's too.

As you know, I know nothing about themeing but when I tried to just overwrite the .apk file it gave me an error saying that the app wasn't designed for my phone (or something like that) and would have limited usability. And then came the onslaught of the FC loop. Would making this a flashable install fix that or is it because the app itself just doesn't work with our phones?

that's why we have to port them to the pnp version first, it just copies all of the .png files to our version (that already works on our phone) then you would be able to replace it through root explorer (or make a flash package) sounds like you were trying to use the .apk from the other phone? Never do that btw

LOL Yeah I learned that lesson. Thank God for nandroid backups. It actually wasn't that bad just couldn't use the Swype keyboard anymore (even after putting our .apk back on). Maybe I'll give your guide a try. It kind of intimidated me the first time I read through it but maybe just pulling a single app will be a good way to start.

Skip reading the part about framework and decompiling. App's are wayyy easier, you should be able to just use theme porter (as long as the folder names within the theme'd version matches what's in pnp's version, should have -v4 i believe so you may have to rename those in the theme version.) Or you could manually move the .png's by opening each one in 7zip side by side.

[Request] Froyo HTC_IME APK

I've been searching all day, and I can't get a working copy of the Froyo HTC_IME APK.
Does anyone have it, or have the ability to rip it? I really wish I didn't have to request it here but I've exhausted all my attempts here to find it.
Help would be really appreciated. I'm currently running Damage Control 3.5 which didn't get official Froyo Sense keyboard. The mod does not have arrows, which is necessary for EVO users.
-EDIT: If anyone knows how to rip it from a ROM, that information can help as well, as long as it's not too difficult. I can have a friend attempt to do that.
Here you go.
Y'all check this out!
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=654179
I dunno how many of you use HTC_IME_hiRes version but this is a pretty sweet kitchen that themes it up in almost any way you want!
Awesome! Thanks major to the creator, gIMpSTa. And thanks to jonasl for the mod.
Yea the kitchen is convenient. Only thing is the XDA HTC_IME mod doesn't have multitouch or arrows like the official HTC one which is what he wants.

Thanks. For some reason, however, it says "Application Not Installed". Any reasons as to why this is happening?
Again, I'm running DamageControl 3.5.
I did, while waiting for a reply, find a backup made by Titanium that includes the keyboard as system data. I could not run a restore for it though. It feels like I just will never get that keyboard back unless I flash a new ROM.
So, out of the options below, what's my best move?
1. Troubleshoot the installation error.
2. Troubleshoot Titanium
3. Flash a different ROM
This might seem like too much for a single keyboard, but you don't know how much I miss those arrows...

I wish I had my comp, and I'd just post the apk.
Anyways dude, the froyo keyboard is nice, so I could see why you want it. I've tried swype, and just plain deleted that gimpsta crap after like an hour (its nice for people who can't theme, but just ugly compared to a themes froyo).
To rip the apk, just download a stock Rom, open the zip, and it should be in system/app/. From there, u have to adb push it to the system/app/ folder of your own.phone.
Another alternative would be downloading a stock Rom n deleting literally everything in the zip minus the HTC_IME and flashing it.

Lol, look at my keyboard on my theme. You can mod the jell outta the stock, it just takes effort, looks sexy and you still have the features that the generic Gimp keyboard is missing.

Hey! I'm not really sure whats up with that. I am downloading DC right now to see whats inside. I made a new flashable. Maybe it will work. Before you flash it i would remove any extra keyboards you may have installed. Then also look in your /system/app/ folder and see if there are multiple copies of htc_ime.apk. there really should be only one. lastly, i would go to >settings>applications>manage>all>TouchInput>Clear defaults(dunno if you can do this) but maybe clear data. Then reboot recovery and flash this file. Maybe it wasnt working because it needed the clicker.apk as well.
Hope something works for ya. These files are from fresh so maybe that is why they don't work. ???
Has anyone figured out how to get this keyboard to work on cyanogen?
What exactly is the clicker?
I just ripped the APK from my Stock Froyo install for HTC_IME.apk, which should be the right keyboard. I have the clicker installed from that other HTC_IME Mod apk that's been around for a while, but that's not the multitouch version and doesn't have the arrow keys.
I'm going to see if the same hacks the guy who hacked the first one will work on this new APK. But I can't play around with it yet.
Check out APKtool to decompile the APK and look at the source for the other HTC_IME mod to kind of see what he did.
I too would like to use it in my CM install.
the clicker is what allows you to calibrate/recalibrate the touch input
Did anyone get the 2.2 keyboard running in AOSP roms yet?

OMFG ARE YOU KIDDING ME! Months... months i tell you i have been using android. hero then evo. And i just now realize you can use the volume keys as arrows thanks to you. I have learned how to theme, i have learned how to customize stock ota's into custom rom's for myself, i have learned how to compile kernels from source by dual booting into my linux build. I have learned so many things... and yet, just figured this out.... sometimes i wonder about myself and my sanity,.
on topic now, i think the touch input keyboard requires more than one apk to be installed, or an apk and a library.

can anyone post up a themed version of the stock or new MIUI rom flashable 3G indicator, themed to match this (or both):

I know. I really want it lol, because i kinda hate the 3G indicator in the theme i have currently, as it's hard to see the upload/download arrows, so i just wanted a flashable indicator so I dont lose the cool notification pulldown
I can edit it with photoshop if I can find it. Can anyone give me a hint to the file path?
EDIT: Hah...ok I suck and fail.
I found the apk and edited the images. Looked great. Put the apk back together. Unistalled the original apk and tried to install my modified apk. Would not install. I'm done with it for now. I guess I will read up on signing tomorrow although I thought I had read that system apps didn't need to be signed.
I'll play with it more tomorrow.
do adb pull /system/framework/framework-res.apk
And the images should n in the drawable-hdpi. Folder if not just look around until u find the images
Then pull the framework from your current Rom and replace your images with the images you want then repush your framework hack to the phone and reboot

If you figure it out can you pack a zip of just the 3g icon in blue as well for me?
Thanks man
Thanks for the tips. With a little help from google, I was able to figure it out.
Which icon did you need exactly? The 3g toggle or the notification bar?
well, i did it and replaced some old icons with cooler looking ones, but the 3g icons (along with similar data icons) did not show up. all of the other ones showed up. also, i read a thread where this dude got 4g icons from another rom and installed them on his phone to make it look like he had 4g, but then hours later, he experienced loss of mobile data... and now i think i am too... any suggestions?
I'm sorry I can't help you. I am learning all this myself and wouldn't pretend to know where to start on that. All I can say is that if you are going to make any changes then backup early and often.
The 3g toggle icons I was looking for were in system/app. I merely reskinned them and dropped them back in.

I'm running a theme and mine is already skinned. I think either way you would still have to adb push it onto your phone. I did some googling and took a crash course on changing system icons.
Once I figured it out, it made sense (i know that sounds stupid, but after i did it, I was like oh yeah I get it now). I know that's not a big help, but I'm new to this and wouldn't want to bork your phone. Maybe someone more knowledgable will come save the day.
Otherwise I would google in terms like editing apks and adb pull adb push etc. and maybe you will figure it out too.
Hell I can't wait to ruin my phone now that I am armed and dangerous =)

Is there any way to pack the png's so that I can flash them or install as an apk?
Anyone know how I'd do this? I already have the edited png's.
Can I send any of you guys the folder with the icons and you can help me out with this?
Thanks again
It seems the easiest way to change or theme icons is to not unzip them. Just open them with 7zip and make your changes, then close it. They will stay compressed and all of the info and size will remain intact.
Once changed you will have to resign the apk or zip file.
I spent the better part of 2 hours reading up on it using these forums and google, but I do not in any way feel knowledgable enough to instruct you on the finer points. There are oodles of topics on editing apk's and signing them when you are finished.
The steps seem pretty clear:
1. download or pull apk
2. open with 7zip
3. make changes keeping sizes and file names the same
4. close
5. re-sign the apk or zip file (most likely have to delete the existing files to the original signing which will be replaced with your own)
6. push or install the zip or apk (make sure the original app is uninstalled prior to reinstalling the changed app)
There are various methods and tools. The most helpful thread I found on signing is here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=473580
I hope this covers it all and is helpful to you. I am new at it and can only tell you to backup everything and if you are unclear on any of it, then don't attempt it.
Read all the posts related to it. There is great info and plenty of feedback on known issues or mistakes others have had.

[Q] Metamorphing Rubix 1.0

So last night, I was fiddling with Metamorph trying to change the battery indicator in Rubix 1.0. Very simple change as it's only 11 .png's, but on reboot the theme had applied, but everything was force closing. I have to assume it's a signature/permissions issue, but I never had this problem at all with any of the theming on my Eris.
My question is if this is a DX specific problem or a Rubix specific issue? Since Nand restores don't seem to work correctly with Rubix, I don't really care to experiment anymore with it, so any input would be nice.
What do the experts think is going on here? Am I just an idiot, or is this phone truly the spawn of the devil?
I used ninja morph to do the same thing. I haven't had any problems. It sticks. It takes longer. But I couldn't figure out meta morph.
Would you mind writing a short tutorial on the meta morph process?
I examined a theme that Fabulous created and tried altering his xml file for my theme but got an error from meta morph.
Sent from my DROIDX using XDA App
I'll give ninja a try, but I'll be damned if I want to reflash this thing if it hoses up again.
There's a great tutorial on how to Metamorph HERE.
I've found that editing the xml's of other themes usually confuses the app and causes an error when you try to unzip. I think it's a name mismatch thing or something. You can manually unzip it and then just use "Apply Existing". This has always worked for me.
Update on the NinjaMorph approach, it still causes everything to Force Close. I swear this phone is evil.
I don't know how you did it, but this is making me an angry person.

I really don't know much about theming, and even less about metamorph. I stumbled through using Ninjamorph to replace the drop down notification panel (wanted transparent) and it worked just fine on Rubix 1.0

Yeah, I was able to replace the pull-down as well, but anything in the status bar itself is causing nightmares, I don't know why, as it's the same .apk. Got me. I'll fiddle.
Man- I am sorry about that bro. Ninja morph was all good for me. Didn't cause any problems. I guess I should have issued that standard...

Hope I didn't cause you to much grief. I wonder why it would work for some and not for others? I used the original images from rubix1 framework-res. Is that where you said you pulled your images from?
Just curious.

They were actually from Incognito, which I can flash over Rubix with no issues, but I'm not a fan of the whole theme, just a few of the icons and what not. I'm bored at work today, so I'll just continue trying to screw it up until it works.
I edit the framework-res on most ROMs I use as I like the round clock myself. That said I've found the best wya to cause the least headaches is to pull the framework-res.apk from the ROM you are going to install. Then using 7-zip open the framewor-res.apk ( don't extract or decomplie it) and just drop the *.png's files in the /res/drawable-hdpi folder. Once done closeout of 7-zip. Then double click in the *.zip of the ROM I'm going to use and drop the now edited framework-res.apk into the frameowrk folder the ROM. All said and done put the updated/edited ROM on the sdcard of the device and away you go to install it.
Example currently I'm running a mix of Tranqulitiy 2.3.8a along with the Incognito theme in orange and a modified framerwork-res.apk. Most of the framework is still P3's stuff but I put the round clock in his framework-res along with all the edited files from the Orange frameowrk-res.apk of the Incognito theme so it matches.

Simple Black Theme

Just copy and paste the apks contained in the zip into /system/framework using root explorer and reboot phone manually if you have to. Yes the files are taken from older captivate themes. Blackfroyo for twframework and some basic perception theme template for framework, so credit to them.
And the notification colors are actually blue...not orange. The screenshot program messed up the colors.
http://www.multiupload.com/VS4FBH54UW
Also If you post some links to some awesome themes, I'll port them over for you. As I'm too lazy to dig through all of xda. Just make sure they are Froyo themes to make it easier...Or else there may be difficulty on porting as easily.
I'm already working on porting MattedBlues over, in case anyone asks.
Sorry for the noob-like question, but both framework-res.apk and twframework-res.apk already exist in the /system/framework/ folder. Am I supposed to overwrite them?
I'm new to the Android world and am still figuring my way around.
Thanks.

Glad to hear your anticipation. Jabbawalkee (the guy who made it) and I take MattedBlues very seriously. As a matter of fact, the Theme Chooser version is just about done in case you run CM on any other devices. Anyway, back to the topic at hand.
One issue. When using the stock music player lock screen controls the playback control buttons are not shown. instead it's the number 1(previous track). 2 (play/pause). 3 (next track) . they controls still function but the images are not the proper ones.
I tried to paste these after doing a backup of original files and it says there is not enough memory to paste the files?
Nevermind, I am an idiot.
I was not looking at how much free space I have and I was out of free space.
I moved angry birds .apk to sdcard and copy paste worked great. I also copied the stock .apk files from framework to sdcard just in case
Working now.

I recommend that if you're not going to install the font yourself using a file manager, don't use the flashable version -viperboy- has provided. Instead use the one mackster248 has posted in the 5th post under this one.
There you will also find the /system and /system/apps folders, but for now they're not very usable. They currently can't be deodexed with current tools.
On a side note, for those using a file manager to change fonts, here are some general instructions:
1. Ensuring you have R/W permissions to edit system files, copy the Roboto family of fonts into the /system/fonts folder.
2. Keep backups of your current fonts you plan on replacing (DroidSans family) by renaming their file types to .orig (For example, DroidSans.ttf becomes DroidSains.orig).
3. Change the fonts you plan on using into the names of the fonts you just changed to the .orig file type (Roboto-Regular.ttf becomes DroidSans.ttf).
4. Make sure to change the permissions of each font to rw-r--r-- once you've renamed them. if you don't know what I mean by that, make the permissions identical to the other fonts found in the folder.
5. Restart.
Be careful when doing this, if you do it incorrectly, you'll be stuck in a bootloop and will have enter the recovery to re-install the ROM to replace the system files again.
Thanks! I installed the replacement fonts after taking a suitable backup, just in case. It replaces three fonts in /system/fonts: Clocktopia.ttf, DroidSans.ttf and DroidSans-Bold.ttf. I think the difference is subtle on a per-character basis but taken together, I find it more easily readable. I did a side-by-side comparison and found that the characters in some cases are a little bit larger.

No problem. I'm really big into typography and I'm really enjoying this font. Windows Phone 7's font Segoe comes in a close second though, and I wish I could find a usable version of Nokia Pure.
Love this font! Switched from Segoe n they're similar but this is so neat

Here's a flashable zip for our G2x's, for some reason the other one wouldn't work on a G2x because of it's update script.

All credit goes to Tiger13 for this one.
I tested it and works.

Thanks for posting. I've updated the original post to guide them to your link.
Is it just me or does anyone not see a huge difference? Maybe I'm just blind.

The differences are many, but all mostly subtle. I worked for a newspaper and page design/typography grew on me a lot so I notice the little things.
If you're not that much into typography, I can't blame you, it wouldn't appear much has changed.

You make a good point, but like myself, there are those who know they don't need to install another app when their familiar with use file managers to change system files.
For someone who is familiar and confident with how to do it themselves, the steps should take no more than 2 minutes, that doesn't like much work to me.

Agreed. That's how I learned all of this back in the G1 days. Which was either commands via Terminal or switching out files via Root Explorer, so I never even knew there were apps that do all of those things for you these days.

Well I'm in business studies right now. So it's kind of whatever font makes everything look bigger
But yeah it seems like a subtle change I'm sure I notice it subconsciously!
This font really is great, thanks for making it available.
