thanks to hrkfdn and Kali for getting this done so we can use CM7.
I just built the kernel from their source and packed it.
Install CM7
Flash google apps right after CM7
Flash this kernel right after flashing GAPPS
Don't ask questions here - it's clear what to do. If you dont know, read about cm7 in the DHD CM7 threads, not here.

fantastic.

Personally used for about and hour straight, great battery life and there are no flaws in the kernel, thank you teamdesire and attn1 for the kernel, and anyone else who helped making this work for the i4G.
Cool, thanks. I was hoping to get the original 1516mhz OC.
Is anyone having GPS issues with cm7?

I kept nagging htc by emailing them and I even reported them to gpl violations for not releasing the source. I guess they got the point.

You need to use the Universal dpi GApps package. It has gb (Gingerbread) in the name. 1120 is the date code I think.

Got it up & running with gapps 20110120. Oh boy this this runs smooth right of the bat.

Wifi isn't working for me. turns itself off every time i turn it on.
*edit* no surprise but wifi tether doesn't work either.
*edit#2* Same thing as h_22_accord, reflash kernel and it's fine.
*edit#3* Promise it's the last one, quadrant only 1500...stock was 1700... poo. oh well still feels smoother than stock
I attempted to make my own edits and not much was adding up figured I should just ask for help..
If someone could please make the edits and reupload this ROM that would be amazing!
ROM HERE
+1 However I will still attempted the edits myself for practice. If I get it working before someone else posts, I will post the link.

The data isn't working right now I hope they get it fixed also having su problems.

Little bit confusing.. When I tried to replace the "apn-conf.xml" there was only a "apns-conf.xml" and "cdma-carriers-conf.xml" instead of "cdma-carrier.xml".
And then the "build.prop" file was a lot different than the froyo roms but I'm not surprised there being this is gingerbread.

Not sure where that post went someone said that data was not working on this ROM but I did indeed confirm data is listed to be working:
INCOMPLETE LIST OF THINGS THAT *DO* WORK
Calls
Audio
Data
SMS
CWM
Sensors
Wifi
V6:
Updated framework to CM7.0.3/Android 2.3.4
Wifi works!
Sensors work!
Bluetooth works!
Thanks to JT1134 for his CM7 work! He got me over my roadblock!

EDIT: Apparently there is a bug that kaos missed and there will be a data fix soon. As I said I confirmed it was "listed" but I looked into it more.

The list of working and not has not been updated since v4 (cm6), right now it's almost on par with jt's cm7, minus data.

Those are the original things that worked/didn't work - as far as I know there are still issues with the ROM (JT's is still more functional at this point, and it doesn't sound like punk kaos has gotten anything else working but has made progress on the camera last I read)
At this point, unless you're just bored and wanting something to play around with - i'd avoid wasting time trying to port this ROM - until there is more progress made. We have JT's CM7 ported and there are are some still working on a full build using his most recent release also.
Alright, I noticed you guys haven't seen a nightly release in a while and since I made this for a friend of mine and even gave it to my brother, I figured everyone should have it too. This is basically Cyanogenmod 7.2. No, I will not build CM9 for your device, and I probably won't end up maintaining this release (I might, not sure.)
The Rules:
Don't report bugs, this is a nightly also I am sure bugs will be picked up already. Treat this as any CM nightly. Wipe before flashing (unless coming from a previous pure CM build and even then, wipe cache and dalvik.
Instructions:
Download > Wipe Data, system, dalvik, and cache. > flash > enjoy
Download link:

Gapps:
http://goo-inside.me/gapps/gapps-gb-20110828-signed.zip
Enjoy guys.
Did a complete system wipe, flashed and booted. It gets to the setup dialogs and before I can do anything it reboots into a continuous cycle. Can anyone else confirm?

not to gripe, just purely sharing my experience
the shift has problems making and recieving calls. No audio is the problem. A restart solves it, but it comes back at its leisure. Another problem is that the time doesnt stay synched with the network. I flashed using Clockwork and Twrp. I made sure to wipe x3, and i reDL'd the rom x3 already aswell. Everything else seemed fine.

i use cm7's off and on. the problem i have with them is i can't shut the alarm clock off whenever i use them. not a problem with other roms and i have used a bunch of them.
I'm on Sparksco cm7.2 stable 1.1 right now and I'm surprised it's not up as one of the most popular roms. This one is really nice! It's gonna be my daily until there's a solid and complete ics rom.

It currently boots, however is not working as an actual recovery at this point.
you can try flashing it, but do not use it to make any backups or flash roms.
There is a modified version floating around the forums that has touch CWM working for G2X 5.8.1.3. I have backed up and restored and it gave no problems.

dont go flashing that just yet... still not 100%
mount points are screwed up, so while it might look and act working, you might be restoring your dalvik cache to /system...
just hang on a bit longer, Rusty is getting close, but he can only do so much on his own without a g2x to test it himself.
ive been working on this off and on for a while, and ive finally managed to get SlimICS to boot!!!
unfortunatly there are many major bugs...the biggest one: Launchers are not working so i cant test any apps
the status bar is working and i managed to enter settings through the status bar and was able to connect to my wifi network, however i can not actually test the internet as i can not access any apps
now that i have it booting though i will be devoting alot more time to it...and it looks like theROMinator and i may be working together on this one so hopefully we should have a stableish version up soon!
well. nobody tryed before because we didn't have any kernel that supported ics.. i don't know if jt's or entropy source kernels will work...

Its definatly not as easy as it sounded...first they wernt flashing at all, i manged to get them to flash...but now it sends me to a boot loop. I tried to read the logcat to see what was causing the bootloop and to my suprise...logcat isnt working!!!! Ill definatly put more time into this though, i am determined to get it to at least boot up!!!! No ETA though, this is the first time ive ever ported a rom...maybe i shouldve ported some gingerbread roms before i tried porting ics...

A lot of ics roms are beginning to pop up...and Ive gotten slim ics to flash however it bootloops. But I'm pretty sure I know what the problem is and after I pick up my sister from school I'll get back to working on it...if I'm right on what's causing the bootloops then we may have another ics rom coming our way

i got it out of the bootloops!!!! but alot of stuff need fixing...i used the following guide to get it to where it is right now:

wifi is connecting though cant really test it as the launcher that came with slim (ZEAM) isnt working) so i cant access any apps...i can get to setting through the status bar though and was able to connect to my wifi
gonna reboot and do some logcats and see if i can figure out whats going on
if you want, i can upload what i have and pm you a link if you want...get two guys working on the bugs at the same time
If you can get BT audio to work I am all up for helping with testing. Just need it because of local laws.

unfortunatly this is being ported using entropys latest CM9( build so whatever doesnt work on that will not work on here...)
i doubt i could even come close to fixing bluetooth...but once this gets more stable i may look into it...but once again the chances of me getting bluetooth are very poor, pretty much impossible...even our best devs have been unable to get bluetooth to work :/

i used both! what i did was this:
got entropys latest cm9, deleted the app, media, fonts, framework folders
then i replaced the deleted ones with the ones in the 3.6 base
i then took the i9000 3.6 essentials and instead of copying the folders i copied the files to the apropriate folders
i then flashed itthe reason it was bootlooping earlier was because it was missing the libandroid_runtime.so
the problem with the launcher is there is still some stuff from the /lib directory needed...flashed one with all the .so from lib and launcher shwed up however touch screen wasnt working...so now to go those logcats and see which lib i need
