Hello everyone.
Now I know you guys are probably pretty sick of these reviews by now, and I can't say I blame you.
However, I just got my G2x Yesterday and felt that I would share my experiences thus far... from a developers point of view.
I'll throw some common topics out here real quick:
Screen Bleed : Minimal on the lower right corner when brightness is 50% or higher when in the dark on a dark background. Therefore, negligible.
Random Reboots : No random reboot so far at all, both of my G2x's charged through the night just fine.
Wifi: Wifi seems just fine. I saw some complaints that the signal was weak, etc. I have not noticed this at all, and the signal strength is comparable to my Epic4g.
For the dates on the phones:
Phone 1: 05/06/2011
Phone 2: 05/06/2011
I have been running CM7 on them both flawlessly so far, waiting for some of the bugs to popup so I can fix them
The phone is VERY fast, responsive and does everything I throw at it. (It also makes my Epic feel like a G1 in comparison.)
So far I am very impressed. I may have gotten a good batch, or something. But so far I have no run into any of the problems that I've seen posted by others.
Off-topic. T-Mobile's data network blows Sprint away 10x over.
Don't apologise for this thread. It definately is appreciated by many. Before I get anything like this I voraciously read up on it.These days if you're surprised by a bad product, it's on you. But others have to post about their experiences like you.You know there are people on the fence put off by the "issues". So your review will help balance their input.
And even though I have one, your positive objective review reinforces my belief that my issues are the exception.
I agree that this phone is awesome. Actually I agree with everything you said. Except apologising LOL.
I'm getting a replacement, and I'm using the phone today, actually feeling guilty that I'm exchanging it. It just works so well. But it still is acting up this morning. I really do have a hinky one.
So blah blah blah.....keep posting.

A small update: I did run into the CM7 bug regarding sound for the first time today. The sound stopped working completely, in all regards, and I had to reboot the phone to restore it.
This is a bug in CM7 as of nightly 34, so hopefully it may be fixed in the current code revisions. (I'll compile a copy in the next day or two)
I just got the G2x on Friday and the phone has been awesome! I also agree on the data thing, Sprint's 3g sucks.

This.
I tested my friend's EVO next to my G2X in the same location. Both standing outside with WiMax turned on for her. I had 7Mb down and 2 up she had 2 down and SEVERELY capped up.
Indoors was even more pathetic for WiMax... I maintained the same speeds while her's dropped to edge-like.
Also I know people have been complaining about connectivity issues, but nothing can be farther from the truth with mine. The day I went to the T-Mo store to look at the phone, all 3 units they had turned on outperformed my G2 by at least 1Mb.
Then I decided that maybe the G2X's had newer SIMS, so we swapped. G2X still outperformed my G2.
The data on this thing is blazing fast. Even in my office where for some reason my phone decides to connect to edge by default, If I force it to H in the secret menu, its just as blazing.

The Torchlight does that. Activate the LED flashlight and the audio goes bye-bye.
CM7's servers stopped producing nightlies because of bad drives. #34 is almost a week old and they are already out with CM7 RC0. The only way to get those updates are by using KANGS. I'm using Gigglebread and it works great (I believe the audio problem still exists but haven't tested it).

Well awesome that I know the LED flashlight causes that. I will refrain from ever using that again
However, that sounds like it is a kernel problem, and will likely be addressed in the future.

My phone works perfect. My gps tracks perfectly through the woods and in my house I get 15' accuracy when running a GPS test. My phone doesn't randomly shutdown. Actually both of my captivates have the same lack of issues.
Wait, nope I did have one issue. I removed GTalk after I rooted and flashed Cognition to fix it, without enabling lagfix.
Am I alone in this? Are there other people who don't have problems?
I love the developers here, they constantly are working on improving perceived issues and do it without whining about inferior products or people. Oh and they do it for free.
Thank god for developers.
thumbs up!
go devs!
I think you're in denial or you just aren't OCD enough to realize the phone does have flaws. Mostly due to laziness in design by Samsung, not enough testing. I have an inside source saying the entire Samsung Development team was frying on mushrooms when working on this...
After Paragon RC4 fixed my GPS issue I can't think of any problem my phone has and I hammer away on it all day. I have build 1008.

1 shut down when I first bought the phone. Going on 3 months (of ownership) now, with no issues. Of course I suppose a lot of the credit goes to Cognition 3.04 for being a great stable rom
yeah my gps is great... if im walking.. not if im driving.
no shutdown issues though.
had denied access though when trying to use "usb storage mode" returned phone. no issues with new one except gps...
I've been very fortunate as well. GPS isn't perfect, but got me around downtown Philadelphia perfectly just yesterday.
Phone is rooted, with stock rom. Removed AT&T bloatware. Using K-9 for mail, Dolphin HD for browser and of course advanced task killer.
No shutdowns, battery gets me through the day. Worst thing is the new Android Market, which is much slower than the previous versions.
I am a Samsung fan, having progressed from a Sammy flip phone, to the Blackjack, to the Jack, to my Captivate, so I am a bit biased. Folks in the office have several Verizon models, including an older HTC model, an Incredible, and a Droid 2. Each one has a few quirks, so take it for what it's worth

Never had any issues here, either.
My GPS works perfectly too; I get 1.2 m accuracy in my house which is surrounded by trees . . . but only since I started using a TomTom Wireless MKII (bluetooth) receiver.
It's funny how the MKII which was designed and built 5 years ago can get a lock in my house in a few seconds when the Captivate's built-in GPS always takes 248 seconds to lock under better conditions (outside). I wonder if that metal case back is a problem . . . hmmmmm

you are aware that using a task killer is a waste of time... right? it is totally unneeded on android.
http://geekfor.me/faq/you-shouldnt-be-using-a-task-killer-with-android/
So, honestly, I've had more issues with custom roms than with the phone at stock. I've had weird mass storage problems, GPS lock quality, force closes, strange wifi lock ups that require a reboot or a complete dump of programs in ram, data network loss until a reboot, just to name the major ones.
With the stock software, even though there was a crap ton of bloat, the phone worked. Sure, there was random lag, and the GPS took a little longer to lock(up to 1min), but when it did, it never had issues with maps or navigation like it does now, where the program thinks I'm driving in a river, or suddenly changed directions going 80 on the interstate. The mass storage worked better also, as did BT audio.
I gained speed and customization with the roms from this community, but it was essentially trading one issue for another.

You're not alone.
GPS has worked for me from day one (I bought it on launch day), literally. My first full day with the phone I flew to another state, had no clue about the area and it got me everywhere I needed to go.
any gps receiver wll have issues with multipath. There is nothing that can fix, actual yes, remove tall building which are close to each other
My original phone worked fine at first, then developed the random shutdown issue. It was bone stock. I tried rooting, ROMing, etc to fix it, but it still shutdown.
I exchanged it for a "refrubed replacement" 12-31-2010. I left the replacement stock for almost a month to make sure it was going to work right before I did any mods. The shutdown issue was gone, and the GPS worked great.
I was hesitant to flash it cuz it was working and stable. But I had already had a taste of custom roms so I couldn't bear leaving it stock forever.
Flashed different roms, different kernels, numerous different modems etc.... So far so good.
No issues yet. But now that I said something it'll probably die on me tomorrow!
I do live in a small city(Fayetteville NC which is a small town compared to Philly) but driving in Raleigh and Dallas I don't have any issue. (bought my phone in dallas) Driving or walking or running it just works. Alsk I get lock in less then 20 seconds which is pretty average for a lot of gps devices I have used. (well not the military PLGR which seemed to take 30minutes to lock)
I thought about it and there is one thing I do with a custom rom I didn't do with stock: live background.
Cognition was ok but now I'm running Phoenix Rising.
Great dev community in XDA all around, and if I hadn't removed GTalk I would never have tried one of these roms.
And for playing video or media I get issues with 1080 files but everything else works good enough for a phone. Yeah a phone, compared to an Ipod touch or Zune Hd or a computer it isn't as good but I also can't make phone calls on some or fit the other in my pocket which makes this Captivate a great device.
Right on about the multipath! I wonder how many GPS complaints are from this.
Heh like listening to the radio or watching old school pre-HD tv in a city.
The only issue I had with stock cappy is it would not connect to pc. I tried every driver under the sun, on xp, vista, and even bought windows 7. Nada. My wifes would connect immediately. So I just made att swap it out for a new one and it works perfectly. I really didn't care until I got tired of waiting on froyo and decided to flash. I wanted a backup on my pc so I called att and did a swap. 3 days later I flashed my first rom. Now my OTA download rate is faster than my dsl, so I'm sticking it to att by dl'ing over their network.
My wife and son also have Captivates, both stock. They got them in November 2010.
My wife's has been fine for the most part but has shutdown maybe 3 times over the months. She has opted not exchange it yet since the shutdowns have been very rare. Her GPS works fine but is a little slow to lock.
My son's just started shutting down over the last week or so. It's to the point we are probably going to have to take it in for an exchange.
Credit to KeePeeR26 who posted the link in another thread. I think it deserves it's own thread and the mods should consider making it a sticky. I signed the petition and I was the 27th. If we all sign it maybe it'll get LG's attention when it's picked up by the blogs and media. The five of you that have phone's with no problems don't need to sign.

And the Gingerbread update is being coded by the same LG experts that created the original O2X and G2X s/w. Allowing the O2X problems to carry over to a phone launched six months later doesn't give me a lot of confidence in LG. I really am hoping the 2.3.3 update makes the phone stable but indulge my skepticism until we actually get the ROM and see the improvements.
Seems to me they took the critics of the O2X to heart and switched to plain Android to prevent future criticism. They probably basically switched to Gingerbread development after that, meaning the G2X has the same buggy drivers that the O2X had.
"Our smartphone freezes and often reboots in a kind of loop. We can only remove and reinsert the battery to have a working phone again." is the main cause for the petition? Yeah that's definitely an issue I haven't had yet. Wifi knocking out 4G? Thats annoying as hell.
I havnt seen any issues other than screen bleed and some touch screen issues. Cm7 even at its infant state improved the overall feel of the phone and fixed the touch issues I was having. The biggest complaint I see are reboots and battery problems. Reboots are most likely hardware issues. You should return your phone. Battery issues are more often than not the fault of the user. I bet if you took a poll across the android phones on xda I would put battery issues as the number one issue for android.

I must have the one in 100000 of these G2x 's My uptime is 175 hours an 6 minutes. MYphone just plain an simply works! An left to work this morning at 730am its 440 pm an i have 71% battery left. Only thing that bothers me is speakers need to be louder, an I want a damn Otterbox defender case!!!
There isn't a day that goes by that people dont complain about this phone. It seems that every since the bleeding issue has been addressed people have been finding the tiniest things to get mad about. Some things can be fixed through software fixes/roms and some things you just simply return the device for if you can't fix it yourself. Some things are just your imagination lol. The device in my opinion is doing good to be out for almost a month. Maybe I'm just tired of hearing people let the negative outweigh the positive. Honestly if you didn't want the issues you should have waited a couple months after the launch. This is the first phone I bought on the day it launched. I expected issues...nothing is perfect but with these roms coming out its starting to become a perfect device in my eyes. Once Faux123 cooks us a kernel there shouldn't be any complaints left.

Totally agree
Yes, what is even more annoying is that each "issue" has two dozen threads dedicated to it. Making it impossible for anyone to make any headway.
How about a single "battery issues and solutions" thread?
A single "LCD bleed" thread.
A single "random reboot" thread.
Can you imagine how much better this forum would be? Maybe the mods could merge threads and do this, but it's probably too far gone at this point to implement some organization.
Currently, every time someone has one of those issues, they start a whole new f-ing thread.

+1 everyone being WAY too picky.
100% of the people are under a FULL REFUND period still. Rather than b*tch and whine, return the thing and get something else. Why cause so much stress you have to whine on an online forum about it instead of just returning the thing for 100% your money back? Sounds like gluttony for punishment to me; would rather waste 5-10min complaining than rectify the situation and be done with it by getting something else. Tmobile has plenty of other good android phones.
The blacklight bleed is not that big an issue. Anyone running their backlight at 100% all of the time to complain about it has bigger issues like going 4 hours on a charge. No one should need to set the backlight at 100% for anything besides trying to kill your battery for some reason.
And if LG does fix the issue EVERYONE has a 1 year warranty on the phone despite the return period to swap it for a "fixed" one. There is absolutely nothing that warrants the dozens of threads about it blocking other meaningful discussions.

So far this has been the best Android device I have ever used and I have used many. Luckily I do not have a single problem with this phone. My WiFi works great and never fights with data. I get 30mbs download speeds and 10mbs upload speeds while on WiFi. I get 7mbs download and 2mbs upload on 4G. My GPS locks within 3 seconds and is accurate to 5 feet. I am running the stock software with the pre-dexopt patch using Launcher Pro and this phone flies through everything. It plays every game at high frame rates and Flash runs buttery smooth. I never thought I would use a Android phone that didn't lag but this phone hasn't lagged once. I can honestly say that I am extremely happy and in my opinion this is the best device available in the US right now. The only device that will dethrone it is the SGII which I will be getting and give the G2X to my wife. For those who think the Sensation will be better than the G2x.....HAHAHAHAHAHAH

This phone is far superior to my G1. As long as it just runs with no errors, I'm good.
.....or it could be that many of the first release devices had major issues and people have come to rely on the excellent folks here at XDA to help them. I know that many also moved from the HD2 to a full time android device and there has been growing pains.
I had a POS one, swapped it and am very happy now.
Thanks again to all great people here at XDA that have helped me make the adjustment from WM.
Reading is the key!
Just my personal opinion, but it does seem like they rushed out the 2.2 build. I worked as a sales rep for T-Mobile (today was my last day), so I had to see the dark side of the user experience more since people would come to me with troubleshooting issues. It just doesn't have the polish that I would expect from a 2.2 ROM. Most times it would fly, but occasionally it would hang when switching apps, be slow to respond, and sometimes outright crash for no reason. That said, almost all the stability issues I've had were fixed when I flashed the Gingerbread leak, and I didn't even wipe before flashing (I was naughty).
Seems to me like they intended to ship it with 2.3 but ran short on time. Instead they took the ROM they had for the O2x, got rid of their UI changes and hobbled it onto the G2x with the intention of updating it quickly. For that reason, I told the customers that came into my store with stability issues to wait for the update, but if it doesn't come before their return period is up (30 days here in California) to go ahead and return it. I fully expect that update to come before June 20th.

Rant
here's the kicker... You see, I'm a NEW android/smartphone user. This is my first smartphone. I came from using a razr just for phone calls, for the last 4+ yrs.
I thought the g2x is the next best thing to sliced bread. I love it. I got mine on the day it was launched, the first run of phones.. It has slight screen bleed.. so what. I would have never noticed it unless someone said something. I thought about returning the phone to get a different one because "heck, everyone else was complaining"... and I was like.. why would I do that? The phone works fine.. nothing wrong with it... and I'll probably get one that has more probs.
So I kept the phone. Battery life? As someone else said... on every single other forum where a new phone comes out... that's the #1 talked about topic. "Battery life sucks! Battery life sucks!" Now after talking to a few folks, do I see there is a problem for a few people.. absolutely. If you're phone has apps frozen, nothing running, you set it down on the table.. pick it up a cpl hours later and it has dropped 25%... ya, major problem. A few guys are seeing a drop down to a dead battery in 8hrs, with almost zero usage. A phone call or 2 and litearlly a few txt msgs. There is somethihng seriously wrong. BUT there are others that are using their phone all day long.. txting all day.. screwing battery usage with using ATK 30x a day, etc.. and they are complaining about battery life of 8hrs when they are using their phone like a computer. Stupid.
I have talked to multiple guys about their battery usage... they started off complaining... Then as we discussed in PMs... they admitted.. "Ya I guess I do use the phone a lot. I'm literally texting all day long." WTF!?!? Duhhhhhhhhhh
lol... I seriously believe that around 75% of the battery complaints are idiots using the crap out of their phone... and wondering what is going on...
/rant
I totally agree...way too much complaining. And I LOVE that we now have a thread for complaining about the complaint threads. I know, I'm twisty...but I love it.
I agree. I was just looking at the pictures posted in one of those other threads of the screen bleed. They are all mostly like mine. One, with a sqiggly line, did look really bad. But really, I do not see the bleed in everyday use. At all.( Edit: And I am a 100% brightness sorta guy) Someone was griping about how they can't see it in use, but boy when 2,3 comes out and that bar turns black....oh boy am I gonna be mad!! Wow.
Mine activated early yesterday morning. I am amazed at this thing...
I may totally regret saying this, but other than the screen bleed "issue", this thing has been perfect for me. Just lucky I guess.
No reboots, wifi seems to work perfect, great data speeds and clear crisp calls. So far. My call reception was awful on Metropcs.
Again I may regret saying this. I have seen a couple of posts where people say they started having issues after a week or so.
Am I the only one having a problem free experience?
I upgraded using the LG tool and everything went fine. Setup the ROM from scratch and all was well but then I kept having these issues so I shelved the G2X and went back to Sensation UNTIL T-mobile released what I thought would be a newer official build.
The fact that they are putting out V21E as the official GB build is downright sad and pathetic. After many months of promising an update they can't even get a release out there that's not busted. I know it is possible but it seems only HTC and perhaps Samsung know how to write software...my old Droid Incredible, friends Evo 4G and now Sensation are rock solid and everything just works. Samsung Nexus S and Galaxy variants also just mainly work.
I had these issues for the 24 hours I used the G2X with V21E - I got fed up and stopped using it but I'm sure there are others.
- Several times phone rang/vibrated due to incoming call so I answered the call which worked BUT the phone kept vibrating like it was still ringing even while I'm talking to the other person. Only solution is to hang up call and call back. Doesn't happen every time but happened quite often.
- Bluetooth is buggy as hell. Sometimes a device that's paired won't connect unless I powercycle the BT on the phone.
-- I was listening to music once with A2DP headset and a call came in. I answered the call and everything was great. I hung up the call and now no BT audio would come through the headset or even the phone speaker no matter what I did. Turn off BT/turn on, etc. Only solution was to powercycle
--Later on was using the phone, connected my paired A2DP headset to the G2X and almost instantly the phone screen turned off and it locked up. Had to pull the battery
- Weird issue with apps like (edit: Google's podcast app not HTC) Listen. Will play for a while and then all of a sudden stop playing and nothing I can do will get it to play again unless I uninstall/reinstall the app. Never happened on Froyo or CM7.
- Gets very warm - battery app showed the temp being well over 35 degrees celcius most times I looked and I wasn't even using the phone much.
- Was using the Google reader to read articles and all of a sudden the phone started slowing down and then it just froze with the screen on. Nothing I did would get a response from it. Power + vol up didn't work. had to pull the battery.
I mean this is freaking ridiculous. I have the Sensation setup with the exact same apps, launcher, settings, everything and I have ZERO issues. This is simply crappy software and LG should be ashamed.
FWIW, CM7 latest nightlies I never had ANY of these problems but A2DP doesn't work on CM7 so can't use it daily. Once A2DP starts working on CM7 I might give it another shot.
I'm definitely done with LG for a while.

This happens a lot in Stock Froyo for me. Sad to hear it's not fixed in GB!

Weird, I had reboots and SOD problems in Froyo but otherwise I had NO other issues in Froyo - when the phone wasn't rebooting or turned off it worked perfectly. This GB build has way more problems for me than Froyo.
Solid here..... Not a bad update imo
Same here I haven't experienced any of these problems, not even in Frito either. The update overall has done it all for me. I would try reinstalling the update again if I were you

I did, note how I said I set it up from scratch. There is BOUND to be issues with this because the kernel is the same as froyo - many of the problems were caused by the kernel and since that hasn't changed, how would the issues be fixed? CM7 might fix issues because it's a different kernel.
My phone is now freezing up!!! WTH! Three times since the update in less than 12 hours. I wanted to call Tmobile customer service to cancel my Value Plan i switched to a day earlier but couldn't. I had to remove the battery and reset the phone before making my call.
I told them I didn't want to spend $200 for the migration fee and then be stuck in a new 2 year contract with this G2X phone and pay a $200 if I leave that Value Plan contract or spend full price on a phone to replace this junk. I went back to my 1500 mins, unlim text, 5 gb data for $79.99 plus %15 discount on that. The person I spoke with was surprised this new update was having issues. She knew this phone had bugs because her friend had this phone. She also knew they took it off their website and just brought it back with Gingerbread.
She said she will make a note in my account to give me a full upgrade credit because I am on my second phone and I told her that I was going to leave to Sprint! Hopefully my phone wont cause me to smash it before the Samsung Hercules comes out on Sept 26.

Looks like I'm not the only one.
I just got T-Mobile to send me a replacement G2X on Thursday so will see if I have same issues. At this point I truly believe I have a hardware issue.

I can't help to think that theres some app people are installing that's causing some of these issues. My phone has been perfect in operation, but froyo was great too.
People need to understand that the tegra 2 has some compatibility issues as well with some apps.
Uninstall everything 3rd party, use the phone for a day and see what probs you have.

I've had issues after a factory reset and not installing anything. Further I'm not keeping a phone that limits the apps I can install. I've got the same exact set of apps on my Sensation and it works perfectly. Its not like I have a ton of apps either, just the ones I need.

No problems so far. I love GB. My bluetooth now syncs with my radio which it wasn't doing with Froyo.
i've had none of these issues. i have had issues like this in the past with a bad flash.
Well I'm getting a replacement G2X that either will come with the update (doubt it) or I'll use OTA to get the update so if after that it doesn't work. I give up.

OK.
I hope you have better luck with your new phone. The Sensation is a piece of garbage according to many. It is all up to luck apparently. It is weird how some have no issues and some have continual issues.
I'm starting to think I have bad hardware too, I'm having more problems with GB than I did with Froyo!
What did you tell them to get a warranty exchange? I was thinking of calling and just overwhelming them with info.
Just worried the replacement device could be worse!
I can't adjust the damn touch key brightness. It is making me crazy. Also the screen is not as responsive as it was with Froyo.
and of course the battery still sucks, but apparently android is a flawed system that just sucks battery for no reason at all. I hope the google/android folks get their stuff together one of these days. I really miss my HD2 battery life. You would think a bigger battery and newer operating system would be more efficient, but crappy battery life seems to be the norm. The tmobile guber that sold me my phones assured me I would get the same life out of the battery, but he was very wrong.

They make you go through troubleshooting so I just answered their questions and she said, fine we'll send you a replacement. Just tell them you have a G2X that has been rebooting/turning off and that even after the update it still happens. That's what I did.

Nope you're not the only one. My G2x today decided for the first time to freeze while I was using it. Plus with this update I get less signal than I had before.
This phone and how tmobile handled it in my situation left a foul taste in my mouth forcing me to switch to Sprint and the HTC EVO 4G. So far its been a happy switch, my phone hasn't locked up, no reboots, doesn't overheat and battery lasted me about 30 hours with moderate use (web browsing for about 30mins, 1hr phone call, and about 2hrs overall on xda) also had WiFi on plus Bluetooth.
Sadly I lost 4G data since Sprint doesn't have any 4G towers in my area yet. But @ $110 a month for unlimited everything and no data throttling it was a good move, plus nice to have signal while at home. WiFi calling worked whenever it felt like so it was no more reliable than plain cell service.

So I flashed the new radio onto my device (TweakStock with kernel version 2.6.35.7-EP4-g311a209). Baseband confirms FP1.
Still get snap, crackle and pop on calls whenever I change the volume during a call.
Hate this phone compared to my old Fassy.
Maybe if you stop adding milk it won't snap crackle and pop?
Have you tried a warranty replacement?
Sent from my handheld Linux computer using electromagnetic radiation.
Doesn't the kernel communicate between the hardware and software? Perhaps you need the FP1 kernel as well to get all the benefits mentioned in the update package.
I have updated to full FP1 stock, but I have never had the popping/crackling issue so I can't tell you if it makes a difference.
Wrong thread
I am still getting the static/pop and I am completely stock. I going to go back to a EP4D rom later this week.

As imnuts said in another thread, the fix is most likely a combined radio+kernel update. You shouldn't expect it to fix anything if you're still running EP4D. I haven't experienced any call quality issues whatsoever running Nitro's FP1.
Fwiw I've never had a sound issue w/volume changes, Froyo, gummy, various leaks, ep4x, fp1 stock, or eclipse ohm Food modem. Very rare static on outgoing calls, like 5 since 6/11, but that's it. Maybe hardware?

Did you take the OTA update or did you do it yourself? Still trying to cling to any hope that this issue will be fixed.
TIA

Made a few calls, did the usual things to reproduce the issue....I *think* I heard it happening on one of my calls. I'll have to make a few more but so far I'm not hopeful
I just hope it fixes the rare, but horribly loud shrieking that has hurt my ears on a few occasions. Admittedly, I don't think I've had that problem since the EP4D radios, but...
I still drop calls on these radios. I don't think I can tell a difference with these radios, however, it does sortof seem like I get a bit more throughput. What boggles my mind is how insanely variable bandwidth and latency is on the cell networks. I can't ever seem to get consistent results unless its like 4am and the phone is on the case's stand, stationary. Even then the speedtest results vary a lot.
One interesting thing is that my connection appears to be more stable since I've un- 3G Turbocharged. That script seemed to make the radios more unstable. I've been comparing my Charge's 3G to the Verizon MiFi by Novatel, and I gotta say, the Charge does appear to be more stable and provide a better overall connection (except when it doesn't.)
Didn't want to derail, but I cannot scientifically conclude much about the radio performance- it seems to not suck as bad. Then again, I am not running the FP1 ROM or kernel...

Yeah that would be the only way to determine if it had any effect is comparing it to something like the MiFi before and after. Speeds in my area don't drop during busy hours or anything like that because on a mifi they stay steady around 20mbits all the time, apparently they aren't overcrowded yet. So I must say the new radios do seem more consistent. Before I would jump around from 5-20mbits. Now I'm constantly 18+mbits down and 15+mbits UP

Issue is not fixed. I am on stock and the first call i made after the upgrade I had static and pop. So lame. This is also my second replacement for the same issue.
I basically STILL get a "squeal" that lasts about 1/4 second and happens at random. I have updated to FP1 and it is still there!!! AHHH!
Any chance not mounting the system could affect the accuracy of the flash in CWM? I didn't mount before flashing. Now I went back and did it...we'll see.

Suspicion was confirmed, I still have the annoying snap/crackle/pop sounds while making phone calls
Horrible Shrieking
Though it happens very rarely, I've gotten an intermittent LOUD 1/4 second shrieking static sound during phone calls that makes my ears bleed and kills all puppies and kittens in my immediate vicinity. It only happens maybe once every few months but it will continue happening every few seconds until I end the call. This is my second Droid Charge, been through every ROM and radio under the Sun on both phones.
I'm now on TS1.4/PBJ/FP1 and it still happens. As mentioned above, it is likely a combined kernel/radio problem, so maybe going full stock FP1 will resolve it. It is such an infrequent issue, however, that I will probably just continue to deal with it.
Since I got EP4D radios, my data connection has been flawless (before EP4D I was better off using carrier pigeons), but the FP1 radios have given me a noticeable increase in speed. That said, I don't really need more than 25Mb/s, but now I get 40 down and 20 up according to Speedtest.

There is a thread out there someplace where a group of coworkers with the same phone narrowed it down to specific hardware versions of the charge. I used to have the problem as well but after calling for a replacement and receiving a device with a different hardware version, I've had no problem! Search for that thread....check you hardware version under your battery yo see if its one of the affected listed on that thread. For the life of me, I can't remember the thread title otherwise I'd just post it.

Same problem for me.. i'm on DC #3. today i spoke with a tech, and instead of troubleshooting the phone again, she offered me a factory reconditioned Nexus.. it will be here tomorrow.. not new but better than a 4th DC... what's funny is, just 2 weeks ago they said i couldn't get another type of phone.. i also have the insurance so if that messes up i can get that replaced too.. FYI.. she also said there was no reports of problems with that phone after the new update, i strongly suggest calling and reporting it. if it helps my tech was named Jenifer..
