SMS Sync vs. My SMS Sync - Eee Pad Transformer Themes and Apps

I'm actually coding my own SMS Sync App.
I'm still waiting for my Transformer but I want to be able to send SMS right away - and to receive them on my Transformer too.
So what is different to the SMS Sync app? Actually, it's like a backup app. SMS's are getting backuped to my server. and the transformer is "recovering" them from the server. Same the other way: Send the sms from the Transformer in => SMS's will be sent from the other Android device.
The big difference to the SMS Sync App is: Everything is happening in the Transformer SMS Application! And it's super-fast, as it's working using a direct connection to my server, not using Dropbox. And it's backuped there in a Database, so whenever I'm doing a hardreset, the SMS's are getting recovered ultrafast.
It's still in beta, and I'm not sure if it will hit public, but it's just rocking on my 2 Android devices I have. But as said - Still waiting for the Transformer...
I'm very busy atm, so I'm coding it to work for my devices only. If there is a bigger resonance, I might go public. Biggest problem would be server-side. running it on my servers would be possible but then everything should be encrypted on the devices. Or, I could too use a Dropbox-approach where the data will be in your dropbox account (and on dropbox's servers, not mine), but that's not really a fast solution.

Sounds cool. Hit me with an IM if you would like a tester.

This sound sick. This is one of the main features I really wanted from the transfomer so I hope you get it done. I was interested in the otehr SMS app but did not really think using drop box to store them first was the most convient way to do so.
So if you need any tester, I'm here for you.

Ya let me know would be happy to test sounds awesome
Sent from my Nexus S using Tapatalk

Now working 100% manuallly. Just have to build a service and boing - I'm done
And my transformer will be here on Monday, can't wait to test it on the transformer! Yeah!

Sounds great! I'm happy to help test anything for you, PM me if you want anything!
EDIT: I have my own server too

Awesome. I am having some delivery issues with SMS sync. Would love to be involved in the testing! I'm in if you need me

My Transformer should finally come tomorrow, so I will then try it on the transformer.
(tried it on 2 2.X-Android devices and on the 3.0 and 3.1-Emulator with success)

Any more news on this bad boy??
Sent from my Transformer TF101 using Tapatalk

Actually yes. The system is working... except for that there is no SMS app on the transformer
I've now used Handcent SMS and the SMS are correctly restored and viewable on the transformer (as it is using the same, system database).
Sending isnt working yet. My approach is to intercept the sms as soon as it is queued in the system database, but handcent is queuing in their own app.
I'm thus looking on a way to install the standard SMS app on the transformer. But my time is limited at the moment...
Any ideas?
Sent from my Transformer TF101 using Tapatalk

The stock one is open source, you could mess with that.

What about Go sms ?? Do they do it the same as Handcent??
Sent from my Transformer TF101 using Tapatalk

anymore news did you try go sms?
Sent from my Transformer TF101 using Tapatalk

I might not know what I'm talking about, but as pointed out: the stock one is open source. Otherwise one could simply take stock SMS application and then push it with adb to the transformer. I, however, have no idea how it will react, if certain libraries are needed...
What the hell, I can test it. Bbl.
Edit: Didn't try it since I got my hands on SyncSMS which works as I like it to. Sorry.

So anything still going on with this our is it dead?

Try using Titanium backup to send the SMS app backup to your tablet and restore it there.

[APP] SyncSMS - Synchronize text messages between tablet and phone

I had this in the Xoom thread because it was initially the only Honeycomb Android tablet, but now it supports all Android 2.1+ tablets:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1010597
Anyone else tried this? I found my phone ran hot when it was running. Can anyone comment?
If your sync interval is too high, your phone will always be on. You can also try enabling push notifications, instructions are at the bottom of the first post in the linked thread

I have been using this for about a day now (sent OP an e mail already thanking him and offering ideas). Well done, even being new I know a lot of work was put into this app. Keep up the good work. I can't wait for the updates.

Hi
I'm having a problem with SyncSMS.
Things went great at first...right after setup.
I closed the TF, then tried to open it and send a text message.
I have a wifi connection, the SyncSMS is active on my phone, the app is open on the TF..but the first two messages are shown as "failed"
Then I restarted the service, and tried again and it's stuck on "uploaded"
Can you help?
Edited to add: Ahhh...I see. After it's in Drop box but before it's pushed....it's "uploaded" and everything is actually working.
Ding ding ding :-D

I got this last night, liking it so far. But a question:
If I'm using the push, do I need to keep the dropbox on for both phone and tablet? I assume this is a "yes" but wasn't sure.
DesktopSMS is fantastic and the beta is free. Same developer for CWM so you know it will be supported, not to say others won't. Best part it using gtalk which is already push. Check it out!

bitter, yes you do. the message is still stored on dropbox and the push is just used as a signal to check in with dropbox

I guess another options for sms sync from phone to tablet andvice versa, been testing and it's pretty good.

Email with no Exchange policy?

I used to have a version of email.apk that would allow me to hook into my Exchange email but was hacked to not require a PIN even if it was supposed to. I searched and found a bunch of version for Froyo and Gingerbread and one version for 3.0. Is there a version of this for 3.2?

I use Enhanced Mail on my devices (Phone/Tablet) for work emails/calendar.
The UI is not optimized for Tablet but nevertheless it works very well.
I synchronize email and calendar from Exchange and it all works well. Emails are pushed from the server when they arrive.
Moxier works well and is Tablet ready. Also has a PIN lock for the app itself instead of device lock.

I too use it as my primay email app, both for office email and gmail. When setting up exchange email it gives a option to not enable exchange policies. This helped me get rid of the PIN from unlocking the screen. I also like the unified mailbox in this app.
These apps are so expensive. I think I would rather just enter the pin in.
As a system admin of an exchange server personally I'd be annoyed that users were trying to circumvent security.
Although I don't know the full circumstances you're in, if you have a security policy in place its usually there for a reason. Depending on your workplaces IT policy (and how paranoid they are about data loss) you may also find that doing something like this is also a sackable offence.
I guess your major issue is having to enter an unlock code each time you want to use your device? As another poster has mentioned you can install an app which just uses the unlock code for the app rather than on your device. I personally use touchdown for exchange. It's got an HD version for tablets, works pretty well and doesn't cost that much.
Think there could still be some improvements to the tablet UI (the unlock screen is obviously a scaled up version of the phone version) but overall its worth it. I used to pretty much try to only use free software but have found its totally worth supporting devs by paying a few quid for a decent app.

My interest is in having one program that can handle all of my accounts. I have two gmail accounts, a ymail account, a verizon account, and my work account through exchange. I would like to use the stock program through the tablet (Transformer) but it does not have the security. I do not mind the pin, I would like suggestions on a program that would allow the pin and allow the other accounts.

It's already been posted HERE. Please search before you post.
Um. Or I can post about it in this thread since Enhanced Email ended up being the answer to the question I posted and others with the same question who may have subscribed to this thread may want to know it's available. Sorry to say but just because you posted something doesn't mean others are not allowed to post the same thing in other threads especially when they are pertinent to the topic at hand.

Transformer IS an Android device! Probably you meant something else.
Also that post about Gingerbread - I hope I'll never see it on my eePad.
I've seen Hangout in iPhone menu, though - shorthanded by Google itself! Would be a real ***** if there's Hangout on ipads already.
As of now I can only join Hangout initiated by others, there definitely should be a button in Transformer app, too. Can anybody check if it is there on any other Android devices? My phone doesn't have a front camera, no Hangout button there.
Sent from my Transformer TF101 using Tapatalk
yeah i know what the transformer is, that's why i posted the answer that you
can NOT start a video hangout with Android device, be it a phone or tablet.

Sorry, it wasn't clear from your first post.
Nevermind, what I mistakenly assumed was Hangout on iPhone was in fact Huddle, on Android it's called Messenger.
I managed to start Hangout form the computer and join from Transformer but, interestingly, there was no big blue "Join Hangout" button in iPhone stream that I had on eePad, I though it worked on iOS already.
It's hard to explain how to use these things to people on the other side of the circle if each of them has different functionality depending on their device and platform. Anyone seen it working on iOS?

An app to send/receive text messages from my phone on my tablet

I don't want to have to pull out my phone every two minutes to send/read a text message while using my tablet. I used Airdroid on my computer to read and send text messages on my phone, but it doesn't work on the tablet. Anyone know of an app to do this?

As far as I know, there are no free options that sync between your two devices (i.e., they take care not to screw up your conversation list).

MySMS is a pretty handy app which i use regularly on my tab, pc and phone.
The UI doesn't seem to be as fluid on the tab as it does on the pc and phone though (even with hardware acceleration turned on in MySMS settings).
I've always used Google Voice.
Pro: Free txt and calling (in US)

I should have explained a little further.
I use my Google Voice number to txt from a PC or my Tab 8.9 and do not use GV on my cell. I haven't linked the two numbers yet.
Due to a current medical condition I can't talk, thus the various work arounds for emailing & texting.
