[Q] What did the original nexus s look like - Nexus S Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all,
I am wondering if there was different versions of the nexus s, before google/samsung settled on the current version.
Wondering if anyone had any pics on any developer or tester versions.
Were there any limited edition versions?

All I know is that the limited edition have that transparent android logo as a back cover.

the pre-release version that Eric Schmidt held is pretty much the same thing as how the NS is now.

I would like to have one of those. Must see if I can Google image one and order on ebay.

The Nexus One was released on January 5, 2010. The phone was sold via Google's website, at a price of $529 without a plan or contract, or a subsidized $179 when purchased with a T-Mobile USA two year contract. Google announced in May 2010 that the online store would close, and the phone would be offered in retail stores.
Sprint was to release their version in march but 1 week later announced they would not and went with the HTC Evo.

The Nexus S was first spotted on the lap of former Google CEO Eric Schmidt at Web 2.0 summit in November 2010.
Here are some images:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1039584
And here is a video:
http://www.engadget.com/2010/11/16/nexus-s-teaser-by-eric-schmidt-now-available-on-video/
To my knowledge, no one in the public ever spotted the Nexus S before this time.
As you can see, it seems exactly the same as the retail model.

What about australia?

Anyone know if this phone is getting released in Australia?
I've asked a few main carriers and they haven't even heard of the phone, looked for release dates nothing! if its not being released in Australia then I think that will turn me off android for good, if Google cannot supply their phone to all country's then they have lost the battle to Apple IMO, just hope they pull there finger out and do something about it.

You could do that, or like me import from the US, especially good if you have a relative/friend over there, but comGateway seems to be a viable option. Mine cost just under $600 Aussie including shipping. That said if you have problems, you have to pay for shipping back to the US, where as Mobicity is just Australia etc.
Go outright no contracts, no worries! Skip carriers all-together I think when Voda had the N1 they changed it a bit as well so updates were slightly delayed

Play.com is a UK vendor. I believe snarestud was referring to the US release date.
I actually went into a T-Mobile store this morning and asked when I can pre-order the sensation? And the girl actually said, "I don't know when you can pre-order, but it comes out June 8th."

Yeah from what I have heard from T-Mobile June 8th is still the day. I got a GX2, but have had issues with it going in and out, and seemingly destroying some SIM cards. So I am looking forward to the Sensation coming on T-Mobile as well as not looking forward to going to Verizon and turning my old no contract phone back on. Let's hope it continues to be June 8th definitely.
From what I heard from a friend that works at T-Mob, they will be going for training the 23rd for this device.
please tell me that its available on June 8 and its not just a preorder date

When I said the 23rd it's May 23rd not June 23rd for the training. They go to training a few weeks before the devices goes on sale.
thats great! I can't wait til June 8th. Since my bought my Vibrant outright, I am eligible for an upgrade.
I'm looking forward to going to the HTC platform. I like the Vibrant, as well as my custom rom, but I think I would like HTC Sense a lot more. Is it true that the phone will be able to wifi tether? as well as skype?

I noticed this morning that Amazon.co.uk have now put the unlocked sim-free HTC Sensation up for pre-order at £499, with a release date of 15th June.
Hi Guys and Girls,
I'm a store manager at a Phones 4u store in Woolwich, London. Just to let you know that the HTC Sensation will be released tomorrow (20/05/2011) I will have limited stock availability tomorrow.
This will be available on a 24 month contract on Vodafone only at £35 per month and on 18 months at £45 per month, again only on Vodafone. There may be other tariffs but I will not know until tomorrow.
If anyone is local and is desperate to get your hands on this device please contact the store on 0208 316 2638.
Unfortunately as much as I am a huge fan of XDA Developers and love the support from everyone that posts I am unable to offer any special discount.
The only thing I will do is give a free case (An official HTC one worth £19.99) with your phone if you mention that you got this message from XDA Developers.
Thanks,
I'm not trying to post ads here but I'm sure there are people who are just as excited as I am to get this phone so I thought I'd give all you a heads up
I see that t-mobile us says that the phone will be released BY june 15, does anyone know if any us retailer will actually have the phone on june 8?

No nexus s / nexus prime for at&t?

I'm confused i have seen expansys selling nexus s for AT&T but it's nowhere to be found on the AT&T site :/ , so it's only a Canadian model that happens to work on AT&T bands? the iPhone 4 is not on the AT&T site either, what's going on with that?
I'm hoping to get a nexus prime but since they don't seem to fully carry the nexus s, there's Little chance that they'll sell the prime

Well, no carrier stocked the Nexus One in their stores either (US).
When Google set out with the Nexus S they got away from distributing the phones themselves and needed someone with a distribution network in place. They partnered with Best Buy in the US and Car Phone Warehouse abroad to accomplish this. Part of the agreement was that it remained an exclusive device (for obvious reasons).
This gave them not only an established distribution network, but also a partner who could advertise to a broad customer base and get a hands on experience with the device. Every Best Buy had a Nexus S on display and they pushed it for the holiday season (Dec 16th release). This potentially drew in customers from other mobile networks who handled the device as well as gave existing mobile subscribers the chance to get a "hands on" with the device before purchasing. This was a huge step forward.
If you want to blame someone for not having it on AT&T's site, blame AT&T. They are the only ones who control that content. Best Buy has it listed for new lines as well as upgrades.

June 20th ....SGS3 T-Mobile

You may have already heard the news released today about the Samsung Galaxy S3 arriving in stores on June 20th (fingers crossed ) but I thought I would post it for others to see. T-Mobile also has included release dates for a few other phones like the Galaxy Note (way too big ) and the Mytouch line of devices. The fallowing information has been provided by TMOnews.
Samsung Galaxy S III 16GB Metallic Blue – June 20th
Samsung Galaxy S III 32GB Metallic Blue – June 20th
T-Mobile myTouch (Huawei Phoenix) – July 11th
T-Mobile myTouch (Huawei Buddy) – July 11th
Samsung Galaxy S III 16GB Ceramic White – July 11th
Samsung Galaxy Note – July 11th
* I got my eye on the Blue 32gb. SGS3....(Pebble Blue)
What are you all thinking?
July 11th for me, not wasting my time with the blue version. White is just too pretty.
Hope they release the radio for the note before the release of the t-mobile note. I just don't see myself rockin a smaller screen lol

Not sure about price...How much does a Note go for on other networks? Probably similar pricing? I bought my SGS2 for full price the day it came out and I kicked myself for doing so. I had the MT4G in one hand and the SGS2 in the other, what am I supposed to do? lol....I called T-Mobile this afternoon to check on my upgrade status. and what do ya know? This June I will be due for a full upgrade, just in time for the worlds greatest smartphone aka SGS3. Or until a better phone drops 2 weeks later....haha. My guess is no less than $600.00, and who knows about the difference in price from the 16gb to the 32gb? I cant imagine it being over a 100 dollar difference between the two, but what do I know. Our luck it will be like $850.00 or something ridiculous...
T-mobile is notorious for making you pay way too much for a phone even when you have a full upgrade available. Needless to say I'll be waiting to see reviews and developments before I jump onto any of these, even though the galaxy III is calling my name.

My opinion, these phones hardware are ahead of the software. I think all the high end phones are going to pretty much work the same until we have some software they fully utilizes quad core.

The last time I bought a phone, upgraded, and added a 2 year contract on my plan was when I got a Blackberry Curve 8900 right around when the phone came out for close to $300. I've been using a jailbroken/unlocked iPhone I bought from a friend up until I got my S2 about 6 months ago. I paid $400 dollars (With a $50 dollar rebate, whoopdeedoo...) out of pocket with an obvious full upgrade at a T-Mobile store not an "Authorized" reseller. Close friend of mine paid the same amount as me shortly afterwards.
I would have much rather have paid the glorious $99 dollars you paid. Did you get it during a promotion?

Thats very strange. I have never seen a subsidized phone at T-Mobile cost $300-400. It was a sale when I bought mine, but the normal price was $199

I got my TMO Sensation 4G in 8/2011 and it cost me $229 up front. Was supposed to be $249, but the salesclown screwed up and initially said $199. I was going to walk away, then he offered a bit less and I took it since I really wanted the Sensation. My big mistake, picking the phone first instead of the carrier. I didn't realize TMO coverage is not so hot here in Vegas. I will be switching to either Verizon or Sprint in 14 months unless TMO dramatically upgrades their coverage.

Just found my receipt, the breakdown looks like this.
Phone price - $279.99 (Discount - Normally $499.99)
Sales Tax - $43.59 (Based on the full price of the phone)
Upgrade Fee - $18.00
Upgrade Fee Tax -$1.58
Total = $341.58
I feel molested after hearing you paid a whopping $99 dollars....

What part of town? The Sensation 4G has mediocre reception, I had one. T-Mobile's biggest problem is EDGE coverage, not a total lack of. Thankfully after two years of them basically stopping any major investments in the Las Vegas area, they are picking back up again. Mountains Edge just got 4G HSPA+ instead of the 3G it was on.
Dude I can't wait!!!!!

[Q] Looking to buy the Nexus 5

I am looking to buy the Nexus 5. Not now but in march of 2014, do you think this will still be considered a higher-end device then? I am stuck in a Verizon contract until then and plan on switching to t-mobile. Any answers will be very appreciated.
No one can answer this. We'll just have to wait till March of 2014. By then the HTC one 2 and s5 will come out so who knows.

Buy it if you want the phone, it's relatively cheap. If you're planning on setting up a T-Mobile postpaid account, then since you are bringing your own device you will be considered "upgrade eligible" and able to purchase another device on their contract/nocontract/subsidized pricing plans if something strikes your fancy in the meantime. If nothing else comes out that you like, then enjoy the Nexus 5 until the Nexus 6 comes out and then put it up on the resale market. No, you won't get all of your money back, but you'll get some of it back.
Personally, I'm exceedingly happy to be back on a Nexus device due to the fast updates, and community support that generally gravitates around these types of devices. I am love with my Nexus 5. I've gotten set up on the $30/mo T-Mobile prepaid plan, and so far, I've been very satisfied.
FYI, could be worth the early termination fee in cost savings. Friend of mine just paid an ETF and will still realize savings in 3 months. That is coming from Verizon.
Worth looking into!
