I'm confused i have seen expansys selling nexus s for AT&T but it's nowhere to be found on the AT&T site :/ , so it's only a Canadian model that happens to work on AT&T bands? the iPhone 4 is not on the AT&T site either, what's going on with that?
I'm hoping to get a nexus prime but since they don't seem to fully carry the nexus s, there's Little chance that they'll sell the prime

It's not available on the ATT site. It is available exclusively through Best Buy (as is the T-Mobile variant) in the US:
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Samsung...d=2356115&st=nexus s&cp=1&lp=1&contract_desc=
don't bother with Nexus 3 (prime) until it hit store shelf next year 2012
the first release is only on verizon network, not GSM
From what I read or maybe im blind lol but 2 nexus Devices Passed Thru The FCC lol

Well, no carrier stocked the Nexus One in their stores either (US).
When Google set out with the Nexus S they got away from distributing the phones themselves and needed someone with a distribution network in place. They partnered with Best Buy in the US and Car Phone Warehouse abroad to accomplish this. Part of the agreement was that it remained an exclusive device (for obvious reasons).
This gave them not only an established distribution network, but also a partner who could advertise to a broad customer base and get a hands on experience with the device. Every Best Buy had a Nexus S on display and they pushed it for the holiday season (Dec 16th release). This potentially drew in customers from other mobile networks who handled the device as well as gave existing mobile subscribers the chance to get a "hands on" with the device before purchasing. This was a huge step forward.
If you want to blame someone for not having it on AT&T's site, blame AT&T. They are the only ones who control that content. Best Buy has it listed for new lines as well as upgrades.

Hi,
We have Sprint as our carrier. I want the Nexus Prime and another family member on the same plan really wants the iPhone 4S for herself, but only one of us is due for an upgrade. So, we will have to buy one through the upgrade pricing and pay the full price for the other. Any guesses as to which one might be cheaper and should be purchased vs. bought through upgrade pricing?
From what I understand, it's unlikely that the Nexus Prime will be on Sprint. Verizon is what I keep hearing.
Seriously? Now you are making me just sad :'(
The nexus prime will be on all carriers if anything. There is also speculation that the Verizon version will not be nexus and have touchwiz. More like the GSII HD LTE that was released in Korea. My guess is the iPhone will be more expensive off contract than the nexus.

World phone?
By the way, have there been any rumors about it being a world phone? Or based on the current rumors it will be tech specific (CDMA, GSM)...?
Why guess when chances are you'll know for sure a week from now? >.>
Wasn't the 4s announced that it would be a world phone (cdma with sim card)? As far as pricing, idk off the bat but iPhones never drop its full retail value until the next model is announced. Nexus on the other hand, can be found at different sites for different deals as time goes on.
Besides, iPhones hold value better than other phones when sold on Craigslist, so that may be an option as well when the nexus is released.

Android OS is free so there is obvious price cut, it will be cheaper than iPhone 4S
Nexus S
Pretty sure the iphone 4s will be more expensive.
The reason ?
They can, and everybody will be buying one anyways, without regard to what they actually need.
meh.

Funny what i heard is Verizon might have a slight exclusive with the release of this phone but theirs might not be a real nexus phone.
Why not let her use the upgrade you convince her to give you her old phone"hopefully its something will some resell" then pick up the nexus prime off contract then sell both phones. Or just trade them both in to sprint and buy from them off contract(not sure if they still buy back phones) sprint price will be cheaper than best buys for sure
Of course the iPhone 4S will be more expensive. The iPhone has always been the most expensive phone on the market and the most overpriced, IMHO.
Still, it will most likely outsell the Nexus Prime
Have a GN. Looking to upgrade to n5 but it doesn't look like Verizon will support it. Rightfully so. They really just don't get the android Dev experience. If I was to switch to another carrier what would be the next best choice. Live in Northeast USA. If I don't switch carrier what would be some other comparable phone choices that boot loader is unlockable and rootable. What choices are there. Lg g2. Note 3. Galaxy S4 kind of old all ready. Also worried about being able to root. Since Verizon seems to want to lock down devices. Also don't know what to do about the unlimited data I have. Don't want to pay retail but might have to to keep it. Is it worth it. With the nexus 5 I would probably jump ship. Verizon has lost interest in taking care of the customers who made them what they are. They simply don't mind losing customers when new ones walk in the door. What would be a second choice of carrier. T-Mobile. Sprint. At&t. Choosing should not be this difficult but this is what Verizon has done to customers. Bad business practice with customers and Google alike.

I still have unlimited data through Verizon on my GNex, and when the Nexus 5 drops I am getting rid of Verizon!
I am really liking the wireless plans (no contract) offered by AIO. They were bought out by ATT and and it basically uses the ATT LTE nationwide network.
I plan on ditching my GNex and getting a Nexus 5 and signing up for AIO's $70 plan. I will save about $30 a month from what I am paying to Verizon and I'll be able to enjoy the Nexus experience
I can't stand the phones the Verizon offers anymore (no nexus, etc) and I want a phone that I can use on multiple carriers and around the world. Screw Verizon!

Get the n5 with att then. It seems you are used to the price and coverage. I know tmo is great in the urban areas up the eastern seaboard but if you go anywhere like upstate new York etc it gets sparse. I've been on T-Mobile for more than 10 years and fortunate to always be within good coverage but I would probably have to go with evil att if I traveled a lot. Verizon has the best coverage and same prices as att, but no Sim card or way to root the majority of their phones, I would have to go with att

Hello everyone,
just a curiosity question: as most of us know that google sell some of its products at bestbuy (chromecast, nexus 7 tablets, chromebooks, etc)
I wonder does anyone know that Nexus 5 will be available at Best Buy too?
Thanks!
I work currently at Best Buy and have heard/seen nothing about it unfortunately, the mobile section works a little different than the rest of the store, they don't sell non contract phones so it would be unlikely that they would sell the Nexus 5 unless AT&T officially carries the phone as well.

unfortunately i don't think the N5 will be sold through best buy. it would be cool to buy it through best buy so you don't have to wait weeks for Google to keep their inventory levels up( looking right at the N4)
As previous poster said that BB does not carrier non contract phones is correct, BUT it may be carried online.
But at this point I personally or anyone in my department (mobile) has heard anything about it being carried.
There's actually a decent chance best buy will sell the nexus line up. They are currently setting up some best buys with a "Google experience" sections similar too the Samsung mini stores.

Correction! Best Buy can sell you a phone without contract! On that note, Best Buy has sold the Nexus S(not just the Galaxy Nexus) in the past! If I had to guess, I would say Best Buy won't sell it. But it's possible, seeing as the Nexus 7 was!
I used to work for BestBuy/Geek Squad.
They stopped selling or at least offering off contract phones. They used to sell them. They don't make money/margin from them.
They want you on a contract/upgrade to get kickbacks from the carriers.
Off contract phones don't sell well enough in the US enough to warranty the limited space in their stores.
They have to have items that make margin to stay alive, so space is premium.
Now should they sell them online, mabey, but you won't see it in a retail store.
Yes you can buy sku outright, but it will not sell for the $349 price as google is subsidizing that directly through the play store.
Now this time around with the Google End cap, it is a possibility, but based on previous Nexus Releases and Googles decision to stick with the playstore. I doubt that would happen.

BB needs to either commit, or GTFO. I just bought a HP Chromebook, and BB was my first destination: 3-5 weeks and no store stock is what I was told. Went to Play store, available with 1-2 day shipping. Will be here tomorrow from Lexington Kentucky. I know BB has a huge warehouse on the left coast, where these Chromebooks originally entered the U.S., so I don't understand how BB screwed up the logistics, but they aren't serving their customers by vacillating on stock and supply.

Best Buy Mobile WILL sell you a phone without a contract as long as it doesn't seem to be fraud. If you tell them you're putting it on your plan, and let them log into your account(whatever provider it may be), they will allow you to buy it. They actually do make margin selling the phone off contract, but they don't accumulate revenue on the backend since there is no activation through a carrier.

Hello, pretty rudimentary question, but: I am interested in getting a Nexus 5 because I hear the Nexus line gives you the least trouble among Android phones for installing custom ROMs and doing rooting and such. I am trying to decide whether to buy from Google vs from T-Mobile (my current carrier). Google has the phones available but says they take three weeks to ship. T-mobile sent me an email saying they now have them available; when I called them they said they had already sold out and so could not give me a price, but when in stock again they *might* be able to offer me a discount compared to Google's wholesale price.
Here's my question: T-mobile did say that if I ordered from them, the phone would be carrier-locked. They said they had the ability to unlock the phone "free of charge" (wondering if there's a catch there…). I honestly do not care if the phone is carrier-locked or not, but like I said I specifically am getting this phone in order to minimize nonsense when installing custom ROMs or OSes other than Android. Will buying a "locked" phone, or in general buying a phone from T-mobile rather than direct from Google, create any obstacles to mucking about with the phone's software? Is there some "correct" way to order the Nexus 5 (I know with HTC you have to order a special "developer version" from a separate page) other than just the Play link on the google.com/nexus5 page?
Thanks
I've been a long standing T-Mobile customer for years now. I had NO problems when I purchased my Nexus 5 from Google Play (was one of the first lucky ones). All you do is put your SIM card in the phone before you power it up. Its the new small (micro) SIM cards. I never needed to have my phone unlocked.
Don't you let anyone fool you on thinking its a different phone if you purchase it through T-Mobile instead of the Play Store. It's the same phone.

When I talked to T-mobile on the phone, one of the reps said they could probably get me a discount if I ordered through them, and the other one said it might cost more…
Maybe I'll just go ahead and order rather than wait around just to get a price that might well be higher anyway. Thanks y'all

Hey All,
I live outside US where Google Play Store does not sell Nexus products.
I am planing to visit US in the coming weeks, and i am looking for a place (store) where i can buy an Unlocked (Off-Contract) Nexus 5.
Any info/suggestion is appreciated.
EDIT: I guess the appropriate word is Off-Contract Nexus 5.
And I read somewhere that Sprint - T-Mobile and BestBuy are selling Off-Contract Nexus 5 for $449.99.
So the actual question became; If i buy and Off-Contract Nexus 5 from one these sellers, can i just use it with any carrier available in my country. (Neglecting the difference between US and ROW version, since all i need is 3G for now.)
Thanks.

As far as I know they're all unlocked, even when purchased from one of the carriers, but I think you'll get hosed on the price buying from anyone other than Google.
Every single Nexus 5 (or any Nexus in fact) is unlocked. No matter where you get it from. It's just the price that pays for the convenience. You can get one outright from a carrier and say you already have a (insert that carrier's name here) SIM that you'll pop in when you get home. However carriers will charge you ridiculously more then 349/399 for the phone. You can try finding one used that somebody already received, or if you're staying long enough, order one from Google.

If you life in europe I cant recommed buying it from the US because not all that many people know that that there are actually 2 variants of the Nexus 5, one for non-US markets and one for the US. Actually my country (Turkey) does not have 4G yet, it is expected to arrive through the end of 2014. Also people expect the price to be around 800$ in my country. And LG G2 is being sold for around 700$ which puts me in dilemma. I still want the Nexus 5, but i don't think i can stay enough in US to order from Google, and i guess stores like BestBuy don't sell Nexus 5 without carriers.
Could we see non-carrier versions of Nexus 5 in stores in the near future, or would it only be Google keep providing them?

Yes, assuming there are GSM carriers where you are. :good: (GSM carriers use sim cards)
If you're willing to wait, you could have one of your US friends buy the Nexus for you and then ship it over when it arrives. You might not want to wait that long (understandably,) but I just can't justify paying an extra $100 for a phone due to corporate greed.
Bought mine from T-Dimension on Ebay. Very happy with my purchase!
Shipped from Hong Kong and got it 5 days later. The D821

Right, but the main problem is that i don't think the customs would let the device in. In my country it is forbidden to ship things that cost more than $100, and if they catch it, they are likely to seize the device or just send it back.

Yea, looking for a seller who will make a Trojan horse for me then.
I just bought mine from a very well known seller on eBay, had it shipped to me in 2 days while I was in the US and it cost 355$ including shipment.
