What?...No Really What?
The same simple patch that blocked the last one probably blocks the new one. I don't think that the exploit will work in gingerbread, and its simple to block in froyo. Its in one of my posts in my rom in the captivate forums( or just search for it- should be easy to find if your interested and still on froyo)
So just be careful downloading apps as usual?

haha not being a wise guy but why would they make a phone that can get virus Iphone does not. I mean I love my inspire so far of everything it does and I can do. Now ? is lets say I side load an app I scan it before installing it in my phone with kaspersky internet security. That will cover me. and If anything why would you need anti-virus if your dl'ings safe apps from the market or 3rd party.
What Anti-Virus would you say that works and had not had any issues and that takes the lease amount of space.
Easy folks. I wasn't trying to be Captain Obvious. My point is that our devices can get viruses. There are a lot of people out there that don't know this. They refuse to get Android antivirus and they get infected.
It probably doesn't matter which antivirus program you use. There are several to choose from. I won't endorse one here so I am not asked if I work for XYZ company. Just use antivirus. That's my point.

You make a good point, though its kind of sad people need to be told about this. The majority of our computers are running antivirus software so it only makes sense that our phones need it too. It seems as though some smartphone owners forget how much of a computer it really is. Unfortunately, as Android grows so does the amount of people that want to hack and ruin our fun.

Unfortunately, you are right. The more a platform becomes standard, so to do the ppl who are gonna hack it. The ones who are gonna feel it, will be the ones who didn't think to put an AntiVirus on their phone. Those who are rockin free or paid AntiVirus apps will be the ones that will avoid MOST problems.

The Americans have a big thing about lead used in products at the moment, im talking about trace amounts of lead that don't mean anything but they have blown it all out of proportion, so for example my nokia 6300 has a chromed 4 way navigation button, in the manual it says dont put it next to your skin for prolonged periods due to lead content.
it is basically scaremongering to get the US public to stop buying products imported from china
I know I was being facetious.
I am sure all phones have lead, especially on the boards and chips inside, it was a joke.

He was the same to Adobe with regards to Flash. If it wasn't for Macromedia/Adobe, Apple would have died LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONG ago. If it wasn't for Macromedia's software, graphic design and video editing software, and, of course, Flash, wouldn't have been designed on a Mac and Apple would have died a slow, painful, death. How many options does ios5 "steal" from android or others. Such is the nature of business. If someone buys something, another company is going to produce a similar product with their own twist to appeal to another group of consumers and some of the "original" company's. When one company started building suvs, and another company sees a trend they will too. If one company sees that ppl like rear window wipers others are going to manufacturer them too. Take something, build it to your liking and add in to it. There are few truly genuine and unburrowed ideas in today's business. If you think you have a niche in the market, don't plan on having it long unless you continue to innovate. Heck, apple even spends less on its r&d per revenue then goggle, microsoft, or rim. Because they gave up on innovation and spent more on legal departments and advertising?

I sent a couple emails and asked exactly what he was doing.
He told me he is installing Titanium Backup on rooted phones and instructing people
to purchase an applications > backup the application using Titanium Backup > then refund the purchase.
I am aware that this does not work for all applications, but am appalled that this kind of thing not only seems OK for some, and they are profiting from stealing applications from the developers who are making them.
If there is something that can be done to stop people like this i would surely like to help
I also highly recommend that when building an application, a Developer check market license every time the app is started. This does make devices that are WiFi only hinder a bit, but crooks like this are ruining our android experience.
feel free to report him to the BSA
BSA reporting
They won't get asp updates, and you can only refund an asp once...
I'd not go so far as to suggest a licence check on every single launch, legitimate users will hate you and go elsewhere or get a cracked version...
Making legitimate irritating is why people currently pirate music so much... Same with game drm and no-cd patches... Steam addressed that for the pc though
But for this case, he's acting immorally and probably illegally...
Well that's a terrible ad . He stated:

This an unfortunate side effect of all the abilities our developers have given us. It's sad to see people taking advantage of the open market of android, and using it for personal gain, but he also has to leave a lot of info out of the process for his "customers" to have the wool draped over their eyes.
Hopefully people will be able to sniff this out as to-good-to-be-true, and not let this guy make money off of products he doesn't own.
People really need to learn ethics these days...

I hate this guy. I just don't understand people who are just stealing apps and thinks that it will have no consequences. Today, every phone and app have internet access and developers are able to find out how many their apps were stolen and how many were purchased. So then, if everybody will be just stealing apps, they will stop development and we will have no apps and games and it will kill Android like it did to Windows mobile (there on the other hand was easier to download cracked apps then to buy it).
This dude is unbelivable, as are the customers who do business with hm. I really hope that this is microscopic part of consumers. It really wrong and dumb to steal something costing 1 or 10 euros or usd and takng a risk that it does not work at all. Do peopole actually count any value for their time and effort? Taking one hour or so to mess up your phone and steal what, 5 euros from devs who have written Better guides online with video tutorials, then many network operators ever boder... this is low.
Report him asap.

Calyxim is right, although he is participating in the crime kinda.
He may not be doing the illegal acts but he is aiding people who are willing to steal them. Which technically makes him an accomplice to theft, therefore making it illegal.

I also found that funny. Outside of the obvious legal and moral implications of stealing, I find it more than annoying that he is providing a service that should never be done for profit, but rather out of interest and love for hacking in whatever form one is able. Call me an elitist, but I think that I you are not able to root your phone and or don't have the drive to ask someone for help like about a million people on this forum, then you have no business rooting. Getting a rooted device without so much as a basic understanding for the process is the equivalent of script kiddying in my estimation.
Ugh!! I hate people who male up businesses in hacking!! Especially iPhone ones!! When I tell people I root androids, I dumb it down and say I hack them, and they always say, " so does that mean I can download free apps" ahhhhhhh

I don't get it. I'm pretty new to Android, but most of these apps cost less than a dollar. Really? You'd steal a dollar? Not that I'd steal anything.
I agree it is theft but at the exact same time my view is on this is the guy is wrong for charging for a service like this. Personally I think it is pointless to get worked up over theft of a mobile application like tons of people crack software for computers it happens. But has anyone ever considered Android's kernel? It is Linux which means it relates to the Free Software philosophy which gets me why charge for apps why make a profit I personally believe in coding for learning, fun, collaboration and the benefit for others. But if someone wants to make a profit then sure go ahead. But you know people are just going to pirate it so how much of a profit will you truly make off a app? But to go as far as charging someone for that kind of service is even lower.

Unlike apple, Microsoft gave them plenty of chances. Only Motorola can be blamed, not like they were releasing anything revolutionary anyway.
Meh...w/ that said, the Razr (thinnest) and Razr MAXX (longest battery life) aren't revolutionary to you? Minus the locked BL's I still say the Maxx is one of, if not the best phone out currently overall.
I don't find either advance to be a game changer, now if they made a small battery with that much charge or a thin phone that retained durability I'd understand.
What's Motorola?

Motorola will most likely be singing a different tune once Google flexes the "we own you" muscle a little bit.
In this day and age, I just can't understand a company who doesn't embrace the open spirit of Android development. Developers can help a company so very much if that company will open it's eyes and stop thinking "only" with it's bottom line.
Obviously they'll work it out. Too many $$'s at risk.
These kind of things don't make sense to me. It is so stupid. So if Microsoft wins, then Motorolla will just change 1 small thing in their new phones and move on with life...

I actually had to watch that video to learn about it. Motorola DROID line up doesn't get much play on this side of the world. Still waiting for the fantastic Razr Maxx. By time it gets here, if it gets here, it won't seem so spectacular versus the One X and upcoming GS3. Which is a shame.
Back to topic, I'm sure something will be fleshed out, MS deals more than Apple and with that whole Motorola Xbox ban thing I'm sure MS has some motivation.
I do'nt care, by the way, who cares?

Post an example of the worst code you've dealt with and why. Here's mine:
Google ADK2012
The ADK2012 is a cornerstone of home automation and input/output of sensors and data to and from Android devices. The ADK sets the example of how it "should be" done. However, for reasons in the video below, including violation of all Arduino Code Guidelines and adherance to several Unmaintainable Code guidelines, I am nominating the ADK2012 as the Worst Code Ever.
here's the ADK2012 code: http://pastebin.ubuntu.com/5621322/
Not really pertinent to Android, but as I was first learning to code (C#, unfortunately), one of my programs required a while loop, amd the condition on which to run it needed to be written as "while (true == false)" in order for it to trigger correctly. Using my intended variable for the loop condition caused it to not run, and other attempted fixes caused infinite loops or no action.
To this day I'm unsure if it was other code in the program that caused this or what, but it is fundamentally, the worst code I've ever seen.
Perhaps not quite in the spirit of what was intended by "bad code", but nonetheless, felt the need to share.

so at the office i currently work at we have a huge mixture of asp, and vbscript on both the front and back end and random asp.net pages that seem to do the same as the asp pages but get redirected to when finished with other pages. there are multiple copies of functions all over the place and the database is indexed but has to be re indexed all the time due to changing primary keys. we have been working on trying to fix something and it took us 2 days just to be able to work with a development enviornment. i hate this code and want to beat it to a pulp. also the colors it uses for labeling things are HORRENDOUS and eye burning!
