So its come to my attention that whenever i flash a rom, doesn't matter so far I've tried most of them i always have this problem.
The problem is that when i power off my phone and try to boot it up it only goes past the LG and my screen blinks a little and stays black. Nothing happens no matter how long i wait so i'm forced to pull my battery and then back into CMW to restore a backup or reflash the rom.
is there a solution to this?
turns out i have to keep trying, pulling the battery then putting it back in and powering it on, keep repeating process until it works . didnt happen on stock though. is it just me?
I cannot replicate this problem. Which version of CWM are you running? I've heard of people having issues when flashing an ext3 kernal with the ext4 CWM running.
i obtained CWM through NV flashing

Download RM from the market and install CWM from there and give it another try.

Im having the same problem with my phone. The only oc/uv kerrnal I can run is trinity. When I do the dalvik wipe it says E: somthin volume /sd-ext error or wrong path
so, reflash cwm and the rom?
I'm not sure if recovery is the problem though but ill give it a try later

this question should definitely go in the General section or in the Clockwork Recovery thread, just so you know
if you are in stock recovery, you can get into Clockwork by choosing 'reinstall packages', provided that you have followed the instructions in the CWM thread and: 1) replaced the recovery in system/bin with the modified recovery binary from the thread, and 2) placed the update.zip from the thread on the root of your sdcard.
or u can follow sduvick mod on krylon thread
nice! I didn't know he made a script for flashing CWM.
Can someone tell me why every time I try to flash a new rom on my daughters sk4g in recovery it goes straight to the screen with reinstall packages so I pick it and it errors out and can't go further???

You probably need to visit the Recovery CWM thread and either manually replace the recovery in system/bin with the modified one and put the update.zip(clockworkmod) on the root of you sdcard... Or use sduvick's script in the thread to do those 2 things for you. Then when you reinstall packages it will take you to Clockwork Recovery.
I cant get passed the WipeData/factoryreset.
replaced recovery in System/Bin
Update.zip in root of SD.
this is what i get
--Wiping data...
Formatting /data...
Formatting /cache...
Formatting /sd-ext...
E:format_volume: make_extf4fs failed on /dev/block/mmcblk0p2
Formatting /sdcard/.android_secure...
then thats where it freezes then i gotta restore using ODIN.
any help would be greatly appreciated

hmm, that's weird. and you are getting into orange CWM by doing 'reinstall packages' in the blue stock recovery? if so, I'm not sure why that would be happening...
Yeah I guess I'm S.O.L

Try to odin back to kd1 or kg2, Then use the recovery from krylons thread. This part is important, do not use rom manager to update your recovery, the version on rm is either corrupt or unstable. This happened to me a couple of time when I first tried it too. The problem was rom managers recovery.
Sent from my SGH-T839 using xda premium
Should I completely delete CWM on my SD card then, and then repeat the process on krylons thread?
Sent from my SGH-T839 using XDA Premium App
Yes, do exactly that, delete all cwm files you have on your computer and sdcard, and start all over, using krylons thread.
Ok Just need to confirm this
When I rebooot to recovery. I get the original. screen with two errors. However when I click reinstall packages. It shoots me to CWM. IT does that every time.
Am I safe to Flash? Or did I mess up some where

I am having the same problem with clockworks recovery mod but if I go to recovery from rom maniger app I got from the market it gose right into the clockworks recvery if I use any other app for rcovery it go into stock recovery and thin I have to reinstall pacage and thin it works but that's what I know about it and I fallowed the thread to the letter
if you installed rom manager, then you didnt follow the thread. go to settings/applications/manage applications and under 3rd party, select rom manager. when that comes up, select clear data and uninstall. do NOT reinstall rom manager. next, go to the root of your sd card and look for a folder named clockworkmod. if you find it, delete it. next, go back to the cwm thread and in the first post, look for a link to a file called update.zip. download it and place it on the root of your sd card. to get into cwm, boot into stock recovery and select reinstall packages. you should then boot into cwm. there is no other way to boot into clockworkmod recovery unless you flash a rom that comes with it. the version of clockworkmod that flashes through rom manager does not work right. also, once you have booted into cwm recovery after installing it the proper way, scroll down through your recovery menu and select advanced. then select fix permissions. it will say "fixing permissions...." and will sit for a minute or two. let it sit till it says "done!" then hit the back button and select reboot system now. running fix permissions should stop your random reboots. it did for me. it wont solve the screen lag, but you shouldnt have any more random reboots.
ok i did that. now the cwm do you have to reinstall it evry time you go to recovery or will it stay and the rom manager i got it after i flashed cwm becous it sead it had cwm built in
you have to reinstall packages every time. rom manager isnt gonna do crap for you on this phone. you can flash roms through clockworkmod just fine as long as you do it right, but if you try to start flashing a rom through rom manager, its gonna brick your phone. you can recover from a brick in several ways, but its a pain in the chops.
I tries to flash my wifes sk4g to a new rom through cwr and it boots but doesnt go to the system its stuck at the boot screen and says system data partion not available system not available any help thanks

Reboot into recovery and install a different rom.
I had this exact same thing on my daughter's Sidekick, where a custom kernel didn't want to boot the phone up.
I tried restoring the backup I had made; nothing. I factory reseted it; nothing.
Loaded up another rom (last ditch effort), and BAM, it went through.
So try rebooting into recovery and load another rom.
I was trying to flash a eaglebloods ginger bread on my g2x... however every time the phone boots up it immediately goes into Clockworkmod Recovery and doesn't boot the OS. I've tried formatting and reinstalling the rom but i still get the same problem of the phone going directly into recovery instead of booting. Please help!
have you ever dropped the phone? Maybe the hardware button (volume down is stuck)is failing? I've never heard it automatically rebooting to recovery unless selected from the recovery to do so.
no i haven't dropped it or anything... the last thing i remember doing to the phone before it started doing this was clearing the cache and davilk cache...then it goes immediately to recovery...i just got the phone too, i hope i didn't brick it or something
you didn't "brick" it look up what that means in Urban Dictionary, before using it. If anything reflash the recovery with NVflasher or try a different rom.
tried reflashing clockwork and still have the same problem
tried a new rom? maybe use the clean up tool from in the dev section.
Re nvflash cwm. This has happened to me several times. Do not try to flash anything else until you nvflash cwm again. If that don't work use the rom for recovery in nvflash that is in the dev section.

Try using this NVFLASH technique. It should restore your ROM & recovery to stock.

But the question is did any part of the flash fail. Just like flashing a rom. You can get bad flashes. Happens to me lots of times.
Bottom line flash the rom for recovery through nvflash and it will solve it. I've softbricked myself wayyyy too many times and got it back the same way. If it turns on and shows any graphic its not hard bricked.

I tried searching, but the search is down?
I have spent several hours looking.
I used odin (phone went into download mode without issue) to put my phone back to stock so I could get the ota update.
Went back into download mode with Odin to install CWM, this "passed" and after a restart my phone went into samsung recovery, not CWM.
Now my phone will not go into download mode? I tried different cable, ports, etc.
any help?
so what is it doing since it's not going into download mode.
it wouldn't do anything, I finally reinstalled the drivers and after holding down the power and volume - let go... nothing! push the volume - twice and it went into download mode. Odin recognizes it and goes through the motion, but the phone has a AX_timeout in red at the top left corner of the screen?
Odin continues and say's passed, but when I try to reboot into CWM it hangs on the samsung logo.
It will not boot into recovery, but it will start the phone and everything seems to work.
im using odin 1.83 / windows 7 64bit.
Remove the battery, put the phone in download mode, put the battery back in, and flash CWM. Before you fully boot the OS, flash a custom kernel. If you don't flash a custom kernel, the default kernel will overwrite CWM with the default recovery.

I would try using odin v1.82... My experience with this tool has told me that our charge doesnt always "play nice" with other versions... Also try redownloading the latest CWM, you could of had a bad download.

If you happen to flash a ROM that doesn't include the script that the kernel calls for the overwrite, then you could have ended up with CWM on a stock kernel.

There's a script, can't remember where it's at, that is run at boot to replace the recovery. If that script is not there, it doesn't get replaced. All custom roms have it removed.

There is. You can download the Superuser CWM to your phone, flash CWM, boot immediately to CWM (don't let it boot normally), flash Superuser, and reboot.
At that point, if you desire, you can delete /system/etc/install-recovery.sh and reflash CWM if you want to keep it.

I had CM10 running, then I reflashed the 3.33 firmware because of problems with the phone. Now CM10 will start loading, but never finishes. Holding down power and volume down makes the phone go into a bootloop.

I can't get into the bootloader or recovery either with or without the SD card. Can't see any way to reflash =(
Have you tried pulling battery, put battery back in device, press volume down and power at the same time, then after it does it's thing press recovery, then press power for yes. This should bring you to boot loader, then you can wipe fully and restore your nandroid backup. If you don't have a back up, wipe fully and install a different rom. This should work in getting you into recovery.- if it does not work, I'm not sure what else to try. But do try this! It should allow you to get into recovery. Sorry your having this trouble. Hoping this helps. Best wishes.
