[Q] espn.com in Desktop Mode - Thunderbolt General

Is anyone having problems playing flash videos on espn.com? I can't play videos, but if I got to cnn.com videos play fine. If your set up is working can you please provide your set up?

are you blocking ads? i know they wont always play if you do there.

I did the set up with not blocking ads and it is still not working. Who know's why it does not work.

Anyone else is having trouble playing videos on espn.com? If your set is up and working can you let me know your set up if rooted or unrooted?

I still think it's your adblocking. Adblock stop/start is not instantaneous. I keep my own block list and use the same on my phone and desktop. In order for it to start/stop working, you have to generally flush the dns cache and perhaps your browser cache as well. Easiest way for you to do the former is restart your phone and the later from within your browser (after turning off adblocking first).
I cant get espn to ever work, but it's my choice, because I intentially block the adservers they use at during videos, which keeps flash from playing and gives this error:
Code:
flashObj is not defined
Adserver?CallDown&AdTypes=InContent_Marketing;()Adserv...keting; (line 6)
[Break On This Error] var SOB=new flashObj();
Since I block it, their videos dont work on any browser or system for me period unless i remove them and clear out the cache and refresh.

You cant view it easily on a phone. Have to use a desktop browser that allows you to change the user agent and also debug in real time.

I thought espy blocked flash content from all mobile devices kind of like how Hull does. I know it used to play espn before but it stopped. FYI my Xoom doesn't play videos from espn.com either.

My wife's droid X plays the video fine on espn.com. BTW her for is not rooted.

that's because she's not obviously blocking ads.
remove your ad blocking
clear browser cache, cookies, etc
restart your phone
go back to espn.com and try again
if you want to know exactly what sites they're loading for ads, get the live headers addon for firefox and see what gets loaded and or firebug under the "console" window (there's quite a few, but only a few specific for flash content as far as ad hosts). The ones that are timing out are the ones you are blocking.

Not working. I think you are right it is the adb as your first suggestion.

I fix the problem. It was the ROM causing the problem since the ROM block ads. I downloaded add free android from the market and now espn works perfectly.

[Q] adfree app is blocking flash vids on my captivate's browser from cbs.com??

When I go 2 cbs full web site and try to click on video, I get a message saying that this video is being blocked bcuz I have an ad blocker or the video is no longer available. I went 2 my apps & uninstalled adfree & rebooted but still get same message. The app is showing up in tb still, but it is showing up as crossed out cuz I deleted my backups of the app there. Can someone please help that knows anything about adblockers cuz I have no idea what 2 do. Samsung advised me that I should probably master clear my phone, but that would b a pain in my azz.
You will need to down adfree again. Open it up and hit the "revert" button. That will restore your hosts. Then reboot and you will be fine. Even though you deleted the app, it still changed your host files. After you have reverted and rebooted, you can uninstall again.

Thanks jayharper...I did a restore of adfree from TB, then hit the revert button in the app & rebooted & CBS works like a charm! Now do I still have 2 uninstall adfree or can I leave it as is since my flash vids r working on CBS?

Phiremod ....- Video, Netflix, Facebook
Running Phiremod 7 Test 2. Constantly getting "android.process.media has stopped unexpectedly." It interrupts my typing. Comes up every 5 seconds! Also, Facebook, Netflix not working. Plus, video on CBS won't play and says "Video is unavailable or is being blocked by an ad blocker on the browser.' Could REALLY use some help!

Running "fix permissions" from recovery could take care of your force close problem.

Thanks, I had already run Fix Permissions and rebooted. The android.process.media error does seem to have stopped. Any ideas about Facebook or Netflix not operating and force-closing? Thanks again for the reply.

I would "clear data" of both applications (via manage applications), reboot to recovery, wipe cache partition and dalvik cache, then reboot (it will take a while to boot).

Thanks again, but now again android.process.media is popping up every 5 seconds. The 5 icons at the bottom are now + signs. I found a way to change the icons and have them operate for various functions. I will attempt Fix Permissions again for the error popping up. And Netflix and Facebook still don't run. I just flashed to Phiremod 7 two days ago & haven't been able to get them to run. Re-downloaded them but no luck... : (

I did indeed. So, I re-flashed and got the icons and functions back. Still no Facebook, Netflix, but now oddly, YouTube is working. : ) I'll leave well-enough alone. Would love to get online video running and especially Netflix. But thanks for the replies.

That would've been my next suggestion (re-flashing). I'm not sure about Netflix, but I'd expect Facebook to be working. Hm, idk. I've uninstalled mine because it was holding a wakelock longer than I'd prefer.

Hm, I replied to you but don't see the post. I did wipe data when flashing. It was part of the instructions. Anyway, I'll be happy with things as they are for now, but would really like to get video online running and especially Netflix. Thanks again for trying to help.

Google Music 4.09 cloud won't work

I can't get music from force closing when I try to stream to my phone. Tried fresh ROM install, tried nandroid backup that it used to work on. Fixed permissions, cleared data, uninstall reinstall, different kernels, different apk downloads, installed as system app, installed as user app. Tried everything and in different orders.
Any ideas?

What are you using to block ads? A specific app or your own host files? I'd say it has to do with which host files you use as they're all gonna have different addresses blocked.
EDIT: Just tried it using AdAway and the default hosts with no problem. Was using a custom host file I'd gotten from somewhere before.
AdFree is what i use, i refreshed my cloud today, syncronized perfectly with the phone
For myself I used the ad blocking feature of ROM toolbox. Not sure why but turning this off did the trick. I haven't played with any other settings.

Tronsmart TS7 (aka Glacier TS7) installs random apps without permission

I have a (4GB) Tronsmart TS7 (some times known as a Alps Glacier TS7). It's a Chinese MTK6589 based phone running Android 4.2 purchased from geekbuying.
For the most part the device is stock, there are next to no pre-installed apps apart from the usual, and the only additional apps I have installed are: Playstation, Steam, ColorNote, Shuttle+, Root Explorer DI Radio, Chrome & Gmail
The problem I have is that there are apps appearing on the device that I am not installing. So far it has been the same set of apps that appear:
Mobo Market
UC Browser
TrustGo Security
DU Battery Saver
337 Game Master
GameCenter
(there may be more)
These apps don't start appearing right after a factory reset, but start to arrive 1-2weeks later. They also seem to be packaged similarly; when I say packaged I mean opening them seems to prompt with the same menu & style (accept licence etc) before it gets to the main app. Also, after you open the app from the app drawer it then creates an icon on the desktop. Maybe opening it actually does the installing?
The apps themselves seem to be legit.
I have factory reset the device (twice), and changed my Google password but they are still appearing. They don't show up in my Play store history so they must be coming from elsewhere.
My main concern is that if it is downloading things without my permission, what might it be uploading ? Not to mention wasting my 3g data etc.
So I have a few questions:
Should I be (really) worried?
Is there a way to monitor this? eg connect to a wifi hotspot and packet capture the network traffic? or maybe use a process monitor (the ones I've tried so far haven't shown anything) to see if there is some sort of script in the background?
Can it be stopped?
Thanks in advance, I would be interested to know if anyone else has/had this problem?
I have the same problem.
I haven't tried flashing some other ROM yet, but I guess that is the only way to get it to stop installing those things.
Have you actually found any other roms to install?
For anybody's information:
You may have noticed how you always end up with a 'Tronsmart.mp4' video file appearing in your gallery app. This is damn annoying since it appears twice, once on the internal and once on the external SD card. There is an '\system\app\CopyTest.apk' file which creates both of these. Should be safe to delete it and thus prevent the file(s) appearing
I have actually decompiled this apk. It works as a service that runs when MEDIA_UNMOUNTED or MEDIA_MOUNTED is invoked, and does absolutely nothing else.
I have the same problem, those random apps installing and the video always in my gallery. I have managed to stop tge apps by using a firewall and allowing only my apps that i want to use the internet. I havent found a solution though to fix the problem. Probably tronsmart is spamming its customers...

What Firewall did you use? I might be able to use something like that to pinpoint the app that's causing this.
Sory for the late reply. I am usin "android firewall" free from google play store.
USB debugging disabled stopped it on mine
edit: not that easy, wasn't enough. made some cleanup by disabing/removing some system apps. seems to work so far although there are still some strange events like superuser crashing and right after that system downloader.apk reappearing. haven't seen any other junk coming back
these are the apk's i removed:
systemupdateassistant
systemdownloader
omacp
mtkbt
midtest
galaxy4
fusedlocation
engineermode
engineermodesim
cds_info
basicdreams.

Ad block for YouTube app?

What are you guys using to block ads in the YouTube app? I used to use an xposed module. Not sure if that will still work or if there's another method these days. Any suggestions?
Thanks!

Just install the app called YouTube Vanced from their website. It will just skip right over the ads like they're not even there. You'll need to install that plus MicroG in order to be able to login.. IF you use and have Google Chrome browser running you need to force stop it and disable it until you're done signing in otherwise the sign in will just sit there and not work.. You can enable it again after it's installed and you're logged in to.. Choose one of the NON ROOT versions and install both YouTube Vanced and MicroG found here. https://www.mediafire.com/folder/773e97cz2ezx1/AddFree_Youtube_BackgroundPlay_Enabled
They released a manager (check their website) so you can check for updates and install the app and requirements easily.
I'm using 14.99 a month lol

When you use either samsung internet or beta ver., in their bucket under app settings they call ad-ons, there is an ad-block app selection called ad-block for YouTube(you'll see it in the drop-down menu), and that's probably the same one the other gentleman already responded to you with?
It's by-far, the best one I've ever test drove, as I'm not a great fan of those!
lol I remember when you tube did not have any adds, then it was short ads every few videos, then it was ads at the beginning and end of video now there are more ads than videos. I would love to strip all the ads out of you tube, but don't want any malware installed on my phone.... lol

My advice would be plain and simple.
Use Samsung Internet Browser.
I know it's not perfect, but for me not bad at all.
I'm sure it's a good alternative.?
I really got so fed up with YouTube ads that i looked for a good straight forward alternative...
(I also did not want to use YouTube Vance etc..)
Saw remarks about Samsung internet browser,
started using it,
Very surprised, it was fast smooth etc.
With Samsung offering , free to install, add ons, to the browser....
AdBlockers and also a free to install, YouTube AdBlocker,
See screenshot.
i must admit i have not seen one advert, when browsing YouTube.
Note
I'm logged into YouTube with my Google account.
So my advice is to use Samsung Internet Browser
to browse YouTube until you get a better option.?
Good luck.

Cercube is available on iOS too . IN jb you can install tweak in even latest version of youtube app.
The beauty of vanced if you turn your screen times off
YouTube will continue to play
Perfect for me as I do a lot of driving...
Just tried it with Samsung browser screen times out youtube stops playing
Something for you to maybe think about?
I use YouTube Premium to block all ads while still supporting my favorite creators.
Vote for Vanced. The latest version has an option to remove (+) button even. It allows to hide all these distracting tiles, gifs, stories etc, leaving the pure video clips only.

Question Ads/Sponsored Content in Google Feed on Pixel Phone ? Any way to block it ?

Hi there, it's been a long time since i used my last Pixel (it was 2XL),
what i notice right away after using my P7Pro for few days is that Google Feed on this phone is showing a lot of ads/sponsored content,
i used host based adblock along with adguard private DNS on this phone, same setup like my other phone (Aquos R6)
but to my surprise, while it managed to block the ads/sponsored contents on my Aquos, it failed to do so on my Pixel.
Do google actually do same thing with apple on macOS ? setting up certain IP/URL/Connection in OS level, bypassing our DNS/VPN/Host ?
Because i dont remember ever seeing thia much of an ads in my Google Feed. And, as comparison, i dont see the same ads from my Aquos which signed into same google account.
Do you have any idea how to reduce it ? or block it ?
And, no, choosing "Show less" or "Block this ads" by pressing ... button on the Feed doesn't work.

I don't use Google Feeds it's an open door for some pubs
I prefer to use Flym which manages my RSS feeds and I don't have ads.
I also use AdAway and the Magisk Systemless Hosts-Unified module.
Adguard app, no adds unless you missed some filters/updates. Works great on Facebook too.
As others mentioned, you need a way to block/filter traffic on your entire device. There are apps that use a VPN to filter traffic without root, though there is always the root method of editing your hosts file which has been around for a good while which will always also work.
There is also one other option which is to use a DNS server which some companies provide as a paid service, the benefit there is you can choose to put the filter in your modem to have it filter down to all of the devices on your network, though personally I would never go for this option as iot is far too easy to block something you didn't want to, and a hassle to unblock it.
I installed a Play Store App, DNS66, and this seems to block ADs system wide including YouTube Music Ads - now it plays like a regular music player without the garbage ads every other song.
Thank you for all replies,
as mentioned i already using two adblock methods, root based and DNS based, and for other apps, the ads all gone, system widely,
only Google Discover still showing it,
but it SOLVED now, after turning off Ads Personalisation in My Ads setting in Google app, somehow all the ads now gone. Probably there's cache somewhere in my system which prevent the adblock to work 100% on Discover.
