I was wondering if there was an app that I could install on my Transformer and my Android phone that would let me control the mouse on the Transformer with my phone. I know using VNC is an option but I would just like to control the mouse so when i hook my Transformer up to my tv I can use my phone as a wireless mouse.
Hey, I was thinking the same thing. But that the phone is just a controller, not a mouse. So it would have the buttons, play, pauze, rew/forw, volume up, volume down, and so on..

there was an app i used about a year or so ago... it basically turned your entire phone screen into a touchpad with left and right click buttons, you just had to be on wifi...
i'll have to dig it up and see if i can remember the name of the app.
that sounds like just what i need!

It's gmote, and it's for phone to desktop, not android to android device. There isn't an app that you want yet since before there was no point in having a remote control app to control another android device since they were all phones.

Alright guess i'll try VNC til someone makes an app for this.
?
how does vnc do this?
i am looking for a way to use my android phone as a keyboard/mouse for my transformer. i have used gmote in the past and that's the idea that i'm looking for, but obviously to control honeycomb tablet not a pc. glad to see i'm not the only one in the market for such an app!
This app actually exists....but only for the Archos line of internet tablets. Check out the Archos Remote app on the Market. Allows you to use any Android 1.6+ device as a media playback remote for the Archos if it's on the same wifi network. As well as the app, a firmware upgrade was required on the Archos itself, and at present the Archos tablets are all running Froyo.
I just tried this yesterday. Just install BlueputDroid and all your problems will be solved. No reason to be on wifi.

tried to use this but the app says my bluetooth stack isnt supported, so it doesnt even try to go.
Unfortunately Blueputdroid won't work cuz my phone is an HTC Desire HD that has Sense. Bluetooth has issues with Sense. I'll continue my search...

You can run a VNC Server on a rooted Android product allowing you to log into it and run it remotely from a phone or computer.

hi,
i want to show my application on a meeting with a big screen. is it possible to connect a device and transmit its screen to my desktop? i had mymobiler on my windows mobile device and works fine for me. are there similar apps for android? i heard about vnc server - but i need a rooted android device.
Depending on which device you have, you can get a tv out cable and it will display everything on the screen of your phone on a tv. I.e., my Droid incredible displays everything on the tv when I plug it in and my tv acts like a external monitor. Cool stuff

No Problem.
Just to update this for future visitors... there is an app in the market called "WebKey" that does this now without the SDK. Requires Root
There is also the myMobiler for Android, but it also require root
VNC server worked for me, you should try.
i have tried google and was surprised to not find anything. all i could find was a way to control phone via usb, and a whole lot of ways to control the pc via the phone. both are unacceptable. i need to control the phone from my computer via bluetooth or wifi. i am too poor to afford a wireless speaker system and this will accomplish the same thing (for my needs at least).
is there a known app, or some other way, i can control my phone from the computer wirelessly? the only thing i really need as an option is to be able to control playing music. if there is an app specific for that, awesome. if there are apps that offer more control, even better! but at a minimum, media player control is needed..
thanks for your time.
Just tried this out tonight on my g1 for fun. Pretty much can do anything on the phone
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=748914
Its free in the market.
thanks. that is pretty nifty. unfortunately there is that issue with US phone where you can connect directly to it.. makes it pretty slow. the changes happen on my phone pretty quickly (within 1 second usually) after input, but the update on the computer is pretty delayed.
this will do for now. if anyone has an alternative, please let me know!

Hey guys,
I'm considering getting a transformer and I'm really interested in the remote desktop feature of the myCloud app that is included. It isn't specified, but I kind of get the impression that you can only access computers on the same network. Is this true? If it is, it kind of makes the feature a little bit useless.. If I'm on the same network, I'm obviously close to the computer so I could just walk over there and use the computer rather than trying to control it through my tablet. If I could use it anywhere though - at university, for example - this could be very useful. Have any of you guys tried this out yet?
It's also too bad that it doesn't work with linux.. but oh well. I can always use ssh for that, I guess. Sometimes having an actual GUI is kind of nice though.
Thanks,
Sam
Do I need to install any software on the remote machine for this to work?
Or it works just like the mstsc.exe program in window?
Thanks.
I haven't used it since I don't have a transformer(yet anyway), but I believe that there is some software you need to install on the pc first. The myCloud app should come pre-installed on the transformer though.
It's Splashtop, which IMO is the best (local?) remote desktop software. It's very fast, like very very fast, and it transmits sound. I use it on my iPhone to listen to driver radios during NASCAR races. If you want something that works no matter where you are, buy LogMeIn.

From the demo video, it is very fast. Unfortunately, I don't think I can use it to connect to my work PC.
What I usually do with my Windows 7 laptop
1. VPN to my company network
2. Remote desktop to my work PC using mstsc.exe
3. Do my work from there.
Is there a way to do this using a Honeycomb tablet without having to install any third party software on my work PC?
Thanks.
No, not with the app ASUS includes. You have to install the splashtop software and you have to be on a local network.

Do you remember the name of that app? I hope it works with Win XP also (we still have XP at work).
I will to wait until I get my hands on the Transformer to try this out.
I use RemoteRDP on my Droid Incredible to connect to Windows via Remote Desktop. (RDP = remote desktop protocol) Also, mstsc.exe is the executable in Windows for remote desktop.
RemoteRDP has a free version that only allows you to connect to one computer. I bought the full version to connect to multiple computers. Setup a little port forwarding on your home router, and you're good to go!
..I'm still hoping the mynet software including the Asus splashtop will have some middle-hosting capability similar to gotomypc or logmein.com so it won't be LAN only... but I have no data to base that on, just a hope and guess!

If it was not included just flash the latest firmware on the Asus site.
I didn't think I'd get so much use out of it, since I usually only remote into my home systems when I'm away from home. However, I've actually found myself using it to watch cable in the bedroom when my wife is watching something else on the actual TV. I start Windows Media Center on my desktop that has a tuner, and am simply amazed at how well it performs. Video is as high-quality as if I was watching it on the desktop.
Also, note that Asus has stated that a version will be coming this summer that supports access from remote networks. I doubt that it will perform as well as it does locally, but if they can get even close to the same performance it will be a great solution.
This is another of those little surprises that have me loving the TF so much. Asus has put a lot of work into making a truly useful machine, in my opinion.

[Q] Splashtop remote login problem
Can anyone suggest a way to get around this problem please?
I would like to use splashtop to start up and shut down my pc remotely. I use a login password (windows default one) on the machine in question. The problem is that when I wake the pc remotely using 'WOL Wake on Lan' app, I can't type in the password on the remote machine, as the splashtop software doesnt allow access that early in the boot sequence.
I don't want to have to disable this password login, so can anyone think of a way to get around this? Maybe there is a way to use Tasker to send a remote password command? Is there another remote desktop client that would allow me to see the login screen?
I've tried 'Remote Desktop Client' app, which allows me to access the machine (its not nearly as good as splashtop at streaming video), but it bypasses the login screen, and when I try to switch to splashtop, all it shows is a black screen when connected.
Any help is appreciated. Thanks.
Splashtop non-free, 0.99 today
seems to be a patterns with me. i buy an app at full price, then a few days later, it becomes heavily discounted, or (via amazon) free.
anyway, the afaik, the spalshtop that comes with the TF is the free version, with the 5 minute limit.
the non-free one is current at $0.99 in the market. the description says "on sale for 1.99" but the price is actually 0.99. maybe it's an oversight

I don't need a signature.
To those who actually bought Splashtop, go to your devices menu (on the Transformer), then go to edit, and see what the highest resolution you can set it to.
The built in Asus Splashtop can support up to 1280x800 resolution (of your pc).
I know someone with a Xoom who bought Splashtop and his doesn't get an option of 1280x800, only 1024x768.... LOL

Yeah, I actually bought the market version to compare it against the mycloud one, but I refunded it due to the resolution capping at 1024x768 even though it was a newer version number than what we got with the Transformer.

You can - you just need to do some work with port forwarding on your router.
In addition, Splashtop are testing an auto-discovery system (much like PocketCloud) which will make this much easier in future, but unfortunately only the iOS clients support it at present.

www.portforward.com Follow the guide for setting up static ip for your specific router model and then follow any of the portforwarding guide for any software and swap the port numbers used to 6783,6784 and 6785 (splashtop default ports)
Some newer routers have this setting called Static DHCP/Static Address, this is the same as setting static ip, but instead of your computer forcing your internal IP to be the same, the router does it for you based on your MAC address (binded to your NIC/Network Interface Chip)
From what I read, Asus is going to provide us Splashtop HD for free on their next firmware update. FYI.
I bought it anyways
Asus France tell me the exactly oposite when I asked them "There is no update of my desktop planned for the moment"
an official poster said in splashtop forum there will be a free update for the asus transformer..
anyway, what's the difference between splashtop HD in the android market and the splashtop that comes with My Cloud?... the my cloud version works perfectly fine and supports native resolution of 1280*800 too..

Well I think we people are trying to do so much with these smartwatches that are not intented for. I can not see any use for what you are describing especially practicality of it. First of all, any app that you use on the watch is actually running on the phone. So if you want to remotely control your PC, just use the phone itself. Using your watch for that purpose will be extremely slow and would be much of an hassle rather than convenient. The touchscreen on the watch is nowhere close to the sensitivity of the touchsreen of any modern day smartphone. That is another issue. If you are really keen on using it as a mousepad only, without seeing anything on the watch, maybe than it maybe faster but than again it has to first communicate with the phone than the phone will communicate with the PC so again there will be hell of a lag...
But my answer to your question is I don't know any app that can do that at the moment.
It depends on what you wanna do
Well, that might answer your question. As far as I know, no "mouse" exists on watch but that doesn't mean you can't control your PC with your watch.
You might use Unified Remote, tasker and it's smartwatch's version. Unified remote is an app that enables you to control your PC wirelessly from your phone (for example, you can play or pause windows media center, launch any program...), very useful and customizable with paid version. Then, tasker is a really really useful app (maybe a bit hard to understand at first) with which you'll be able to activate only few options of your apps. Tasker live extension shows these options on the watch. I've never tried myself but give it a try and let us know.
I don't know if it's clear enough but, for example, I use sonos system (those are speakers connected to wifi that you control with a special app on your phone), using tasker and tasker extension, I can control sonos (play, pause, skip, volume,...) using my watch.
Of course, as the guy above me said, this will never as easy and fast as on your phone. However there are apps that are intended for controlling your PC.
PS : excuse me for my not-that-good-english.
I'm well aware of unified remote and tasker, I've bought tasker since years ago.
The problem is that there's no real way to translate mousepad-type movements to instructions. I have an idea using multiple hotzones in a UCCW widget so that the further away the touch is from the center of the screen, the further the mouse moves. Like a touch nib, the lenovo type.
In answer to the usefulness, why not use it to remote control the phone, not the pc? Android devices can be fairly big nowadays. Mine is 7.7 inches, if I had a 10 inch tab I can see wanting to put it up on the table, lean back, and remote control it.

I guess I am one of those dream killers you mention. First of all, I am not trying to discourage anyone trying to do anything.
You can for sure use smartwatch as a presentation controller with buttons like the Logitech ones. It will work. But for practicality, I simply don't see sw2 being used as a mousepad. It is just my opinion and you don't have to agree with me.
So good luck with your search/app development.
