What is "plugin sample" under partial wake usage? It kept my phone awake for 26m under the sensor...
Good question. It seems to be destroying my battery. Some investigation is definitely needed.
I think this deserved a bump.... still no answer as to what it is, and its definitely a battery killer.
I'm having the same issue... I usually can squeak out 2 days on a charge during the week since I'm mainly on Wi-Fi, but today my battery died at work after only 11 hours off the charger. Number one killer was "Plugin Sample" which used 56%. Thats absurd. I DL'ed a task manager to see what was up, but I didnt see anything out of the ordinary.
My wife's phone has the same problem...can't seem to find the fix for it. I rooted her phone to the same rom/kernel as mine and it's still there draining the battery.
Angry Birds
Out of curiosity, do all of you have Angry Birds installed, and played it recently? [this does apply to the thread]
I just discovered this problem today. I don't have Angry Birds and never have, so it's probably not that. I did notice that the process was labeled as android.process.acore when I first opened the battery use list, then quickly changed to plugin sample.
I've seen something called .acore force quit before, maybe on my old G1 or maybe on this phone. It seemed to require a reloading of the home screen icons.
Does anyone else on this thread use Launcher Pro?
Same Problem Here!!!!!
Could someone PLEASE help those of us with this problem!?!?
i use Launcher Pro and have plugin sample on my phone.
i cant stop or uninstall the item and it also has some hardcore permissions, which is why im searching here looking for what its used for.
Just a thought, would it be the plugin option on the browser? I read somewhere that to save battery you should change that setting from the default "always" to "on demand."

This app has one function that I know of:
It clears your missed calls notification.
Found it by accident after I removed trust in LBE Privacy Guard for a bunch of random apps and noticed my missed calls stopped dismissing.
Found this app in the logs being constantly denied access.
I noticed this recently so I'm guessing it might be related to an app but now my Android System keeps the Xoom awake always even with the screen off. Anybody else with the same problem? If so what apps do you have installed? Maybe we can find the common one amongst us that is causing this. Luckily the battery is so good that this isn't a huge issue but I want to fix it.

Having the same issue. Wifi only model, I had wifi off for my 1hr commute to work, and it was awake the entire time.

It's definitely an app or something because I know in the past it hasn't done that at all. Can you list what apps you're using? Or if yours is new enough maybe do a factory reset and see if that fixes the problem?
Either way it's definitely software not hardware.
P.S. I have a Verizon XOOM.
What do you guys mean by the xoom staying awake? the screen not turning off or the android system not going into a sleep/standby mode.

If you go into Settings -> About -> Battery and you click on Android System it will say how long it's been awake. Mine currently has an awake time that equals the total time the Xoom is off the battery - i.e. it never is not awake. The screen turns off fine and the battery usage is low but not as low as if the Xoom was sleeping. When it's sleeping it goes into a lower power state but since Android System is keeping the XOOM awake it can't do that. Other than reduced battery there is no other problem with it though.
Under "Included Packages" for Android System in battery usage the following is listed:
PGM System
Settings
Google Backup Transport
Android System
Settings Storage
System UI
Motorola Location Proxy Service
In the main battery usage list nothing is above 3% usage. 5h 31m on, awake for 5h 11m.
Screebl Pro!
I am long time fan and user of "Screebl Pro" By Key Labs. It takes into account the screens orientation and keeps your device (Tablet or Smartphone) backlit. Its great.
I did a factory reset. The problem seems to be about 99% better. There is still awake time under Android System, but it's verrrrry minimal and not even close to the amount of time the display or system has been on. Leaving the Xoom idle for a while to check once again.
I was sort of dreading that. Please check often after you install apps so we can see if there's a particular app that's causing that.

No apps are over 1-2% after being on for 4 hours. 4 min of awake time under Android System. Looks like the issue is solved.
It turned out being Weatherbug. I uninstslled and reinstalled and I'm back to being able to sleep.

After much testing it turned out to actually be having more than one CNN stack on my homescreen. Don't ask me why this causes this problem but it does. Weatherbug seems to be ok. I hope we get Android updates soon to address these bugs.

It's resolved, but not really solved. If anyone notices an underlying application or setting causing this, please be a dear and update this thread?
I just noticed this today. 100% wake time even with long stretches of the screen off. Happened before installing weathebug. I do have 1 CNN stack on my home screen gonna remove it and test.
Very perplexing. You will see much better battery life if the system actually sleeps lol.
Edit: Yep looks like it was the CNN widget. Took it off the home screen and the Xoom started sleeping. Weird.
I FOUND IT! Listen up folks there is a bug in the latest CNN app that was released recently.
When you have 1 or more CNN widgets and you click on a story VIA the widget it launches a service called BangoAnalyticsService or something and THIS is keeping the XOOM awake. Very easy to test, if you go into Applications -> Running Services -> CNN and terminate just the Bango service you will see the XOOM sleep immediately.
Good news is that you can launch stories using the CNN app (NOT the widget) and it will not launch this service so XOOM will sleep.
I've already reported this issue but PLEASE can you all do the same.
Here is how.
1. Make sure you have latest CNN app
2. Have at least 1 widget on your homescreen
3. Launch a story from the widget
4. Go back to home
5. Go to Settings->Applications->Running Services
6. Click on CNN (1 process, 2 services)
7. Click on BangoAnalytics or whatever it is and click on "REPORT"
Put a nasty comment in there for good measure too!!
Glad at least I know what it is. More people that complain, the quicker it will be fixed.
Workaround: Logout of CNN app if you're logged in. Now it appears you can use the CNN app (not the widget) and it will not launch the Bango service that is the culprit. Let me know if you see other issues.
Is there any concern in "Tablet idle" being at like 3%?
Accuweather Bug
I can confirm that the application Accuweather was keeping my wifi xoom awake. Please note that I checked the in app settings for a run in background or update interval setting which it did not have. Once I uninstalled the problem ressolved.

nope.
Thank you! CNN widget was the culprit for me as well.
Device keeps to be ON and Heats up really bad and drains battery
Mine Xoom after the ICS 4.0 keeps running Android OS @ 90% use and keeps screen on and drains battery within 2 hours.
After hard reset, it seem to be disappeared, but once I've installed some app updates and minimum apps that I had to use, same thing happening.
So far after removing the DrawEverything app, it works better but have to test it and see further.
It is weird, and seem to me some sort of the memory leak causing device to enter into this state.
I will call Motorola and see if I could get any additional information.
Thank you for everyone posting an updates here.
Does anyone have both of these and so able to comment on whether Juice Defender is necessary if Tasker is installed? IE Can Tasker do all that Juice Defender ultimate can? (Such as turn off wifi when the screen is off *IF* there is no traffic/downloading occurring?
Thanks.

If you're good enough about setting up your rules, there's very little that you can't setup Tasker to do. I'd have to check, but I'd imagine you can have it do something like that or close to it. If I have time later, I'll see if I can reproduce that functionality in my copy of Tasker
Thanks. I know that Tasker can put the device into flight mode when, say, the screen is off, but what I'm interested in is whether it can be made smart enough to only do so when no data is being downloaded.
cheers!
I have both and decided to use Juice Defender because I wasn't sure how to set that up within tasker. I bet it's possible though.
Yeah, that is why I'm asking. There are a few profiles on Task Wiki, but they all seem to involve 3g cell towers too, I'm after a wifi only one (perhaps they will work, I don't know).
It is quite easy just to turn on airplane when the screen is off, but we really need one that knows when data is being downloaded so only switches airplane on when nothing is happening - plus It'd be nice to be able to set it to enable wifi etc for a short period of time every so often to keep things updated.
I'm fairly sure all of this is possible (maybe not checking if anything is being downloaded?). Anyone who is a Tasker regular able to provide one that does this?
Incidentally, Ad1980 - Are you using JuiceDefender free, or one of the paid ones? If paid, do you find it makes a difference?
you really use such programs on a tablet? mine sits all night and only drops a couple (1-3%) overnight. Wifi and data flowing that whole time

Mine drops about that much too, but I guess it all depends on how much data is being downloaded. Still, those 1-3% percent could be saved, and could add as much as 30% to the battery if, say, the tablet wasn't touched for 3 or so days.
It isn't all about battery saving though - Some people don't want/require mail to arrive at night, for example, so Tasker can be setup to automatically stop wifi during certain hours when the screen is off.
good point about the email and such. i use mine 3-4 hours a day probably so its gets charged every other day i would guess no matter what
I'm using Ultimate, though I've been using it for so long that I couldn't tell you the difference between it and the free version. The market description isn't all that helpful either. I'd go with the free version and if there are capabilities that are greyed out that you want to use then go ahead and upgrade.
I'm pretty sure that an appropriate Tasker profile would have to make use of Variables. Talks a little about it here.
http://tasker.dinglisch.net/userguide/en/variables.html
I'm going to assume you're looking into streaming music while the screen is off. Maybe create a task to start Pandora. Then you might be able to use the "Tasks Running" variable. So the wifi goes off when the screen is off unless unless %Pandora variable is on.
After using Juice Defender for a couple of weeks now on my HTC one X I have to I haven't really notice a whole of difference. What I have noticed that it cuts off wifi and mobile data when i am not using it but when i want to use it, it takes a while for it to reopen and connect and some times it doesnt even open so i have to manualy open wifi or mobile data connection. But i guess it better than having an constantly on connection which can eat your battery life is 1-2 hours.
It is not possible with tasker

Me too looking for the answer for this question.... so for no quite good answers.... Somebody have to develop a plugin for tasker to find out the data/wife downloading speed.. if it can be found, then we can definitely replace JD with tasker...
There is no plugin in the Play Store regarding this..
if any one find anything like this please share with this post..
Yes, JD is must have app, Tasker can't replace it until the availability of above said plug-in. JD makes it possible, switching off mobile data once the download is finished or a threshold is met...
Try Deep Sleep Battery Saver and LeanData.

Just check if its going correctly under deep sleep. Try cpu spy on play store. If not going on deep sleep, look inside battery stats which app is stealing juice (may be some apps are synchronizing too much and waking up cpu/wifi).
Juice defender dose not reconnect my data connection when screen unlock.

I know I've made a few posts about this in the past, but now I've learned a few things since then.
I know the battery isn't the greatest on the infuse (no rom that I'm using atm..) but would like to get the most juice out of my device that I can. I have root access and currently use the apps "battery calibration" and "no-frills CPU control" which I set my cpu at a relatively low frequency to help keep juice.
My phone is drained throughout my day, even without use. I believe it primarily happens because my data (mobile network) consumes it. I know apps such as "juice defender" are great at reducing idle drainage because it shuts off your network connection while in idle to save battery. However, I have used this application in the past and after a few days of use, it shuts off my mobile connection altogether.
My question is, if I were to use this application again and my mobile network were to malfunction, would I be able to change my apn to regain my network connection? In the past I had to reset my phone to regain connection, which isn't really worth using if that's the only solution.
Or are there any other battery saver apps worth using??
Thanks

A bit more information is needed before a specific course of action can be recommended. How much battery life are you using in an average 24 hour period? Also, what version of Juice Defender(beta, free, plus, ultimate) are you using, and what specific settings are you utilizing. It is a very customizable program after all. You might look into Battery Indicator Pro, which estimates your total remaining battery life based on your level of usage. I would also recommend CPU spy, which, if your device is rooted, will show the percentages that your device is running at various CPU levels.
If you turn off all the locational stuff, turn off 'update my current location' in Navigator, and set your CPU gov to conservative, you might get better battery life. I've not had any lasting luck with any of the battery saving apps. In the end, I decided to buy a couple of Anker batteries from Amazon just in case I have a bad battery day... Also some of the battery saving mods work, but I'm not sure about applying them to ICS and JB ROMS. I haven't tried!
Battery life is what you make of it..
Anything running in the background will drain the battery.. email constantly checking for new messages, twitter, Facebook, GPS, WiFi if no connection is found, etc..
Anything that makes the phone process even while the screen is off is going to kill a battery..
What ROM are you using? Some ROMs have better life than others..
How much are you actually using the phone?
What's the brightness set at?
Have you tried changing the processor and slowed it down?
Lots of information that is missing is helpful..
Its powered by Jellybeaned AOKP!

How about putting a widget on your homescreen to toggle data on/off. Keep it on only when you need it. I go a step further, I use Tasker to automatically turn my data off every time my screen times out (because that means I’m not using it... I can restart my data later with my widget when I need it). Maybe that’s extreme, but I’m not just watching my battery.. I’m managing my limited data plan.

It may be that you have wakelocks keeping your phone awake when it’s supposed to sleep. One way to see this is (in GB or above) Settings / About-Phone / Battery Use...then click on the small graph at the top... should expand it to a large graph with traces along the bottom including Awake and Screen On. If you have long periods of time where phone is awake while screen is off, that’s a wakelock problem. A good program to troubleshoot that is Better Battery Stats. If nothing else, follow the instructions in the first post in the BBS thread linked below, and then post a dump to the end of that BBS thread (the developer and a lot of other knowledgeable people follow that thread and will help you interpret results):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1179809
Thru use of BBS, I found that Google Maps is one that was keeping mine awake and I think someone else on the forum reported the same. If that program (Maps) is causing problems, you can disable it from auto-starting on boot using Gemini Manager. It will still be available when you need it, just take a few seconds longer to load the first time after boot. Then need to reboot to stop it from causing wakelocks after use (there may be other easier ways, but this works for me).
Another program (Power Tutor) was helpful to me to see programs that were consuming unusual amount of battery although not necessarily thru wakelocks. In my case Dolphin Browser HD was occasionally drawing very high power even when that program was not actively in use.

Just to provide more details on my previous post (not sure if it's answering your question):
I followed instructions here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=29420959&postcount=7059
In particular, I installed the free program "Gemini Apps Manager". That allows you to stop programs from auto-loading at boot.
So I used the program to stopp Google Maps from auto-loading at boot.
That stopped a large chunk of my wakelocks, as long as I don't manually launch Google Maps.
If I do manually Google Maps, then those wakelocks come back, and to get rid of them I have to reboot.
I don't use Maps that often (only when I go on trips), so it's not a big problem for me to reboot when I'm finished with my trip to help keep my battery use low.
It may also be possible to kill it from the list of applications at Settings/Applications/ManageApplications and killing botht the application and the process...but I'm not sure if it will stay killed that way... haven't tried. I know some applications have hooks that make it hard to get rid of them once they're launched.
But (if you haven't already), I think it's a good idea to use BBS to find out what programs are causing problems on your phone. You may have other apps causing lot bigger problems than Maps. And it certainly may be the case that a program that acts up on one phone can be fine on another phone due to differences in the way the user configures the application settings and the phone settings (along with other possible differences in application version, ROM used, etc etc).

Thanks for your detail explanation. My main question was how can close the app without restarting? i feel my major battery drain is from dolphin browser, befor dolphin i used opera, even that has the same problem. Most of the time, if I dont open dolphin, my phone battery is good, but once I open it, it drains battery. So i am looking for soemthing simple which does, without rebooting the device.
Any way thanks for your help.
I've always noticed a lot of wake locks caused by Location services since upgrading to Jelly Bean. It seems to cause a bit of battery drain for me, primarily because it wakes the device so often (according to BBS). I don't need location updates while the screen is off. Googled for a bit and I found someone suggesting this profile with Tasker:
Trigger is display off
Add a task that runs this command:
pm disable com.google.android.location
Do the opposite when the display turns on, of course (doesn't really appear to cause any lag). I also disabled a few of the Google Now functions that I don't need. Now if I could figure out how to limit the awake time the stock email app uses, and I could see the idle usage dramatically go down.
Any thoughts?

It did work pretty well, but in the end it wasn't enough of a difference from disabling location reporting and all other Latitude functions. Also, I was kind of concerned about the possible CPU time used when disabling and enabling each time the screen state changed.
All in all, just disable Latitude and any functions in Google Now that you don't need. Also, disable location services in any application where you don't need them, like Facebook and Twitter.

Yeah I'm pretty good with having nothing use location settings except Maps. Sometimes I won't get a single wakelock all night, other times I will get an hour and Google Now / any latitude apps are fully disabled. That's why I was curious as to your success.
