Netflix workaround - Galaxy Tab Themes and Apps

I am a frustrated owner of a VZM Gtab and unable to use netflix, up until recently. I found an app on the market called Splashtop remote and it works flawlessly. The free version only lets you remote to your desktop for 5 minutes, but the paid version is on sale this weekend. The wonderful thing is it streams sound also. This app has got to be the best remote desktop software that I have ever used. I can stream my netflix for .99 cents, get it while it is on sale still. There is someone under reviews that says it runs so well he can play Aion on his phone, lol. I am in no means affilatiated with the creator of the app. I will attached a picture of full screen netflix being streamed from my notebook on my Gtab. Hope that will help some until we get an official Netflix app.

Hey, thanks for the tip. Decided to purchase the app.... surprisingly good. Set-up was quick and painless.
Good app to have in the arsenal.

Hmm, it works pretty well. The only problem I have encountered so far is that it does not work very well on multiple monitor systems where the main monitor is not where the start bar is.
Good call, OP!

As I haven't been able to get any of the unofficial APK's of Netflix to run movies on my gTab, I was thrilled to see this solution and find it works! I just tried the Splashtop free version and it streamed perfectly to my Samsung Vibrant. Since the full version's on sale for $1.99, I think it's worth it even if just a stopgap until Netflix works on my devices directly.
However, the online market has my gTab grayed out and when I try finding it on the market app with my gTab, it does not come up in a search. Grr. I'd like to use this on my gTab until Netflix finally works directly on it.
I'm thrilled to be able to stream to my phone, though, still. Thanks for posting!

Its in the market.
This app has a simple to use interface that lets you stream movies from the web. It has pause and rewind/ forward options as well. This is a great alternative to netflix, and seeing that it won't happen soon for our evo's this was an easy choice. It works well on my evo running cm7, the only gripe would if it was actual full screen for us but I'm sure it will be worked out soon. Hope some take the plunge and enjoy the massive movie base, I just finished watching battle:los angeles at work and it was dvd quality! Now off to see faster...

True but we're paying for the convenience of getting the movie links and streaming with the app, at least it isn't a subscription service.

i changed the device to ro.product.model=Nexus S in the build.prop to spoof the netflix app but still receiving the device support error -__-

Rumors has it that Flash 10.3 has something to do with it, but it's also integration with the chipset itself that has a lot to do with it as well.
I guess I was one of those that skipped the netflix generation and went straight into online streaming. I use Amazon VOD for pretty much everything. No native video app those yet, just mostly use it on my google TV. I honestly don't watch TV or movies on my phone.

+1 on that. I tend to watch Netflix on my T-MoUS Galaxy Tab (just got it working on that platform) or my iPad if I'm remote and not at home.
It's really painful watching streaming video on my phone and I don't do that unless I absolutely have to.
Im currently in the process of testing a few things to get this to work on the GS4g. I was having the strange problem that the netflix app would go back to the home screen after I login.
I am editing the build props and trying a few other things out. So far nothing, but if I get it working I will post how to do it.
I did a little bit of research and it appears that we wont be able to use the netflix application at all unless we have gingerbread on our device.
So without a ginger rom we are out of luck, that is unless we find a workaround or they update the app anytime soon.
I came to this conclusion after looking through the Vibrant forums under the themes and apps section, they also are having trouble with the Application.

Hey guys don't forget the app was only released for certain phone models so most of us will probably need to use some work arounds.
Its working great on Tytung Nexus 2.7. If its not working for you, try this...
- Replace drmprovider.apk in system/apps with this file ( http://www.htchd2forum.com/android-...odes-android-app/?action=dlattach;attach=1284 ). It is the drmprovider.apk from the LG Revolution, which has the required restrictions for Netflix. (Don't forget to back up the original first, just incase).
- Change model name in build.prop to Nexus One (model approved for Netflix service)
- Install Netflix.apk from market (Link in post 1, old Netflix apps that have been floating around didn't work for me, just this one).
Restart phone and try it out! That did it for me, hope it helps on other roms. Good luck!
Props to poster of LG Revolution drmprovide.apk to the guys at htchd2forum, OP of this thread for Netflix.apk, my idea on the build.prop model.

I'm surprised as hell that you people are even trying to use it on phones at the moment
XBMC really is designed for tv use currently there are 2 touch screen skins (made by me again) but they still suck on something as small as a phone you really need a tablet at least for it to work half decent.
I guess its a gimmick factor for now that you can actually run it. But don't judge it too harshly unless your using it the way its meant to be on a TV

Its part of the reason why we didn't just ship out apk's or put it straight onto the "Play Store" because its still got a lot of development to go before it really a daily use app. And everyone would just grab and install all the pre-compiled ones without even reading any informational posts about it and complain that its crap when really the main reason the source code is out is so other developers can help us make it lots better for the day it hits the play store
Thats just the way XBMC rolls  develop in the open and encourage other people to help make it better

Also, where does the app store its settings? The .XBMC folder (in Linux) or the XBMC folder in applications data (on Windows) where the repositories addons and themes are stored.

So I just got this thing for my One X called the Gameklip. What it is is a bracket that mounts your phone to a PS3 controller effectively turning it into an awesome portable game system. It is made by a fellow XDA'er, he charges $15, makes them to order specifically for whatever phone you order it for. Believe me when I tell you, this thing is worth EVERY damn penny. It's just a piece of plastic, but it is damn sturdy and the One X fits in it perfectly. Check out his thread to see what it's about and expect a video review from me tomorrow evening. To summarize what I will be saying in the video, if you game on your One X and use the PS3 controller, you MUST buy this thing. It's not an option. Buy it. This is EASILY the coolest thing ever made for Android phones. You buy now!

It is my understanding that ICS does have native USB game controller support but don't quote me on that. This is just a plastic bracket, there are no electronics in it. The "wired version" just comes with a USB OTG cable. If you have an OTG cable already, you can try it out and see if it works for you. You also won't need to buy the wired one then. But considering where you're posting, I must recommend that you do root. It opens up a world of possibilities, including bluetooth PS3 controller support.
What emulators are you guys using? I grabbed "john nes" from the Play store and I'm having trouble getting the PS3 controller to work with it.
I have used DroidEmu and N64oid so far. Yet to try Gensoid and GENPLUSDroid I have installed.
Finally tried XBox controller and was PnP!
I cant get anything to work with this PS3 controller. It pairs but thats about it.

I can't find a joycenter app on the play store. I'm using DroidEmu and the Sixaxis app. The Sixaxis app starts up and tells me "Client connected" then the 1 light stays lit on the controller, then I switch the IME to Sixaxis controller. When I fire up DroidEmu with a rom running I get nothing. I tried playing with some settings in DroidEmu but no luck.

I know he has a Test App too, but I have to use this as well as the PS3 pairing to get mine to work. I have a thread on it.

Please give it a try and let me know what you think.
Thank you!

Is your phone on the same network as your Chromecast? Also, you may want to try to reboot your Chromecast. I had to do that a few times during development in order to see my Chromecasts.
That worked. Thank you. Had to restart my device and my whole network, but it found it.

has been totally waiting for this app!! thanx buddie ,and can you specify what all format videos can it play??
thanks again man
Uhm, DLNA works for me... also Samsung link and Miracast Airshare or MS WHDMI do a fine job as well. I just don't justify a buying a Chromecast for my tablet or phone. Though I am sure your app does a fine job for phones and tablets that are too old to have such things built in.

Look, not everyone has or wants a new Samsung device. And if you don't even have a Chromecast and have no interest in getting one (I don't have one yet simply because they're not sold in Canada) then what are you even doing here? The developer obviously worked hard on this, just leave them alone and let them do their thing, whether you appreciate it or not.
At the developer: any plans on adding in music streaming in the future? Or does Google look down upon that? I know you're going to be busy adding in sorting and filenames for now. The fact that your app exists at all is pretty amazing, but streaming music would be a Godsend.

Yep - I plan on adding another tab for music. Right now I'm just trying to let the dust settle a bit and fix any bugs that are reported. I am also researching the ability to cast photos from your G+ account.
How does this compare to Allcast? And thanks to the dev for the effort!
This work on cheapcast?

Cast Google+ photos / videos
FYI - I just updated Castaway to v1.4... This version will allow you to send Google+ photos and videos to your Chromecast.
Please let me know what you think or if you run into any issues.
Thanks!
Awesome app man! been waiting for this. I tried the free version and wanted the ability to rotate videos, since all videos that i recorded in portrait mode were being played in landscape on the tv. i thought buying the full version would give me this option, but it didn't work. So i refunded.... bring the rotate video feature and I will purchase!
