[Q] Touch Screen sensitivity issues?? - Milestone XT720 General

My phone freaked out today and the right side of the screen is non-responsive. It played havoc with the lock screen and once I got in, it was opening apps and switching from one thing to another as if someone was touching the right side of the screen. I was running the SteelEpicBlue V4 ROM, so I had to reflash back to Cincy Bell ROM before taking it to the store.
For those with the Otterbox, has anyone experienced touch screen sensitivity issues? I took the screen protector portion of the Otterbox off to see if that was an issue, but it didn't fix anything.
I have the insurance, so I hope the replacement XT720 doesn't have the same issues.

I assume the problem persisted after flashing back to the stock ROM? To me it sounds like a hardware issue. I think you'll be fine with the replacement.

The phone wasn't acting like it was experiencing random screen touches, but the keyboard still wouldn't recognize touches to the "p" or the "b" keys (in portrait mode, anyway).

I know this is bringing up an old thread, but relative to the problem stated above, I got a replacement XT720 several months ago, yet the replacement is now doing the same thing. Using the stock keyboard, I cannot use the p/0 key and expect it to freak out like before in the next few weeks. No one else has seen this issue?

G1 dev phone screen does not respond amost 70% of time

i purchased g1 from ebay, right from day1 the screen does not respond properly in fact most of the times. i need to reset soft one to at least g1 working. i upgraded to jesusfrake adp1.1 but issue is same. looks like a s/w bug or problem as if it were a h/w problem it would not have worked at all. if iam lucky it works like a charm but stops responding once i get some sms/email alert or install any app from market. can someone help here!!
Have you already tried reflashing the firmware? If not, do that. Otherwise, why don't you contact the person you bought the phone from. It sounds like it may be a hardware problem which might be why that person was selling it.
i did flash everything from bootloader to firmware to rooting. but problem remains same...it works for 5 minutes and again screen stops responding but trackball is active....right now iam on latest JF formware..
is anyone facing a simillar problem??? any work arounds....
Sometimes my home screen goes completely blank on me and seems nonresponsive for about 30 seconds. Can be pretty annoying. It seems to happen when I'm switching from an app to the home screen.
Contact HTC directly and ask for an exchange or something. All G1's have been out for less than a year and so they should be covered by warranty.
I put a new screen protector on my G1. I noticed that it had a bad reaction with the touch and I took it off. After I took it off, my touch screen got much worse. It was very jumpy and unuseable. There was a practically invisible film on the screen (couldn't even really feel it. I took a little bit of soap on a lint free cloth and wiped the screen down and let it sit for just a minute (to soak any residue) and wiped away. My screen worked perfect after that.
I was ready to call in for a replacement.
could it be a bug as if it were a hardware problem it would prevent touch screen responding at all!!!
i downgraded to rc 30 and rooted the phone, now its working like a charm!! strange though.......

LCD Screen Defect or Software/Driver Problem?

Hey guys,
I am going crazy here, searching forums did not help me at all.
The lower section of the screen keeps flicking, and not always, what do i mean by flicking, its like the screen at the lower section keeps doing like a strange low refresh rate, and has an old imprint of some old menus. Happens especially when there is the color of gray.
Made a screenshot of the phone, no problems, there, so its not a software rendering problem, might be a drivers problem though, or a defec tin the screen itself.
Frequency is high but not always, and am unable to determine when does that happen exactly. going crazy here, is this a defect? or all touch pro's have this?
Exact explanation summary:
1CM from the bottom of the LCD sometimes flickers as if that 1CM is having an extremely low refresh rate. Mostly happens when there is light gray, but not necessarily, and a soft reset for the phone does not remove it. It happens on random!
Hey,
Yeah it happens to me too! You don't need to do a soft reset, it actually fades away if you watch it closely! I don't know what it is either, and yes it is random as you have stated! I initially thought it was an application I installed as it only started happening after that, so I did a full hard reset and its still happening! Not sure what or how, but hoping next firmware version stops it!
Cheers,
mpls-te
As it happens, that's exactly why I've logged on here today! Any ideas whta the cause might be?
OK, good to see that others have this, so am not alone here, experts here, any ideas? other touch pro users, can you please leave your statements?
I hope its a driver issue.
But from what i noticed, its like, the screen is OFF, as in blank and no back light, but somehow, the application working on the screen before you turned off the device is somehow printing something on the LCD, something that we don't see, and when we actually start the phone and its back light, that OFF LINE imprint pops on screen. Something like that.
Its completely illogical, but dunno, can't find any sense here and am going crazy
Same thing happened to me and a few others as well.
See my thread here.
What rom is everyone using?
I've noticed a similar issue with mine, except rather than something software it seems like it's the backlight for the bottom 1cm of the screen flickering slightly. I don't see any weird pixels or inappropriate screen information, just a dimming/high speed flickering of the backlight in that same regionas yours. It comes and goes. Sometimes weeks without it, then maybe 3 times in a day for a minute or two at a time. Everything else works fine and whatever screen I go to displays fine.
I'm assuming it's a hardware problem with the LED(s) that light up the bottom portion of the screen, and I'm going to use it as an excuse to get a warranty replacement somewhere near the end of the warranty when the phone's getting a little old and worn.

Lool, evil, lets just hope that this problem DOES occur when you go to their shop for your replacement
Good idea though, might do the same thing except that i have to travel abroad to where i got the phone from to actually get the warranty working. Don't forget to re-enable stock SPL and stock ROM
It happens frequently enough I'll be able to get it on video just in case they need proof, but typically they just exchange by mail.
I just posted in another thread about this issue. I have run into the same thing a few times. The bottom portion of the screen flickers, and when i do things that have a dark gray or black screen I can see a ghost image of the left and right soft keys from my TFL3D home screen. It seems to be most noticeable when the screen brightness is set to max. To get it to go away I usually do a few soft resets, and then, if needed, i will turn off the phone and take the battery out for a while. I have never tried waiting it out to see if it will just go away on its own.

I see that everyone posting in this thread, that has their signature filled in, is using the Energy ROM. I find that very interesting.
i am having the same problems, sometimes touchflo3d will flicker at the bottom, near the edges. I also get text that can be read through other screens. Like on pocketshield i can see the left and right softkey words still at the bottom. its so odd !
P.S im on energyrom
I'm on NATF v2.2, not an energy rom. But then again, mine looks more like a hardware issue, as I've never seen any ghost images of text or softkeys, just flickering.
can somebody post screens?
maybe the same problem here...
hardreset, other roms > problem still there:-(
Same problem here and I am using stock rom!
here are 3 screens of my xda diamond pro, using latest official o2 rom and newest romeOS eng
hope you can see this prob?! same like yours?

Well, i doubt EnergyROM has anything to do with that problem, since my Stock ROMz had same problem, never got fixed with any updates HTC used to release. MAYBE some Cooked ROMs out there have this solved, if any, please let us know And my problem is nothing close to screenshots above :S

Dude, those photos are awful, after seeing them am happy with my phone flickering, its nothing close to this.
You see, in your photos, all three of em, you some kind of shadow effect, where text of a button for example has that same text beneath it 3x6mm, that is not my case at all.
My case is as follows, IF i am on the home screen for example all looks ok, except that the bottom 1CM of the screen is flickering. If i go to another window, either a total black one or any other screen, i would still see a ghost of the old home screen, for example, and only at the bottom 1CM.
Will post photos once i get my cam back. Cheers
similar issue
my issue is kinda similar, instead of getting the bottom 1cm or so discoloration or stuck pixels, I get streaks of red or blue on my screen. I have had this happen on each version of NATF I have tried, but don't remember it happening on the stock version (which I am tempted to try again to see if that's the issue).
Could this be a driver issue?
mind is even worse than all you guys, the touch screnn dose not response, and i have the energy rom on it, before it goes wrong. it just suddenly dose not response, than i send it to HTC, they ask for 425.00 for fix.... I will just send this to Asia and get some one to fix it.
But I hope before i send it out, some one can help me here.... anyway can fix it easy!!!!
Hi all, i have the same problem, here's another topic about it

Touch Screen Not Responsive, is this due to Flashing?

Hello I have an AT&T Fuze (Raph100) that I have been reflashing roms successfully for a few weeks now. Yesterday night I had some problems with the touch screen being none responsive. This morning I removed the top half portion of the screen protector and then it started responding again. After doing that I reflashed it again and tried to get my android eclair 2.1c version but I was having another problem I had encountered before (I know how to resolve this issue so you don't have to worry about that). I also wanted to try a different rom so I loaded the new energy rom onto the SDcard (energy's latest stable build 21901.Sense2.1.Apr.25.7z) and I loaded it through the boot loader which I had never done before, I always run the wrapper file through USB sync. It went through successfully, but I am wondering if this is what caused my touch screen to become unresponsive. I also hard booted right after the reflash on the Calibration screen as I read somewhere. I did that twice, I don't know if that could cause a problem. My phone is not bricked though, as I have reflashed it multiple times since then with the TPC v3.1 version, the NRG latest build again, as well as MichyPrima's winmo lite boot loader for android eclair v 2.1c version. I plan to purchase a broken fuze to replace the screen if that is the problem in question, but is this even it? Is it possible to "brick" just the touch screen drivers, even though I am capable of reflashing? Do I need to reflash the HARD SPL? Any feedback or advice would be extremely appreciated''
Edit: LCD screen is slightly bleeding on middle left of the screen
I would say it was just a bad digitizer. All screens have to fail at some point in their lives, yours just happened to fail while you were flashing several roms. Just a coincidence.
Okay so it turns out i found some other threads talking about liquid under the screen, and their method to fix it was to use duct tape on the screen and pull it up. This not only alleviated the liquid issue underneath (still a little wet but not the blob) but it also fixed my touchscreen issue. I have had to use this trick a few times due to screen becoming non responsive but hey its better than throwing it away. I looked up a guide on replacing the digitizer and lcd screen and it really doesn't look like its worth it. Ugh wish they had planned the assembly to be more user friendly. I appreciate the help though thanks.
Touch screen repair
I wish I had known about the duct tape trick. I wonder if it would have worked for me.
I recently had the same issue you described - a non-responsive touch screen. I had it professionally repaired for (eeek!) $125!
Well don't feel bad, I eventually got tired of doing that since it kept requiring me to do the trick constantly, and the tape would lose its sticking power so I had to carry around duct tape. So lame. So now I have to get it fixed, but luckily I found a place that will do it for $75 YAY.
Duct tape
I used to have encountered the same issue..
The duct tape worked for me..
But be careful if any of you who encounter the same, will try..

[Q] Screen spazing

i bought my gf a thunderbolt about 2 months ago. and lately her screen just starts acting up. like the home screen will just spin and pretty much spaz. she can be in the middle of something and widgets start moving around and the screen starts spinning. thers no case or any screen protectors. anyone have any ideas?
My aunt had this same problem and I didn't believe how crazy it was until I attempted to use her phone, I never seen a phone act like that. I tried an assortment of things to fix it but nothing I tried worked. She did have a screen protector on that I thought could be causing that problem but I guess not. She has sense then taken it back to version and had it replaced. No issues from the referb.

digatizer?
Mine recently starting acting funky and strange but not as you describe. It was almost as if a magnet was pulling some of the pixels and causing distortion of colors. It also seemed to freeze up my camera really strange like.. I removed PRO HDR which is a cam app I recently updated and did a reboot and now it's fine. You try a back up/wipe/restore yet?
I have had this happen as well but it seems to happen to me if I set the phone down and don't push the button to put the phone to sleep. It actually happened much more when I was unrooted and running stock but since installing Liquid Smooth GB 3.2 the frequency has really diminished. If anyone has a permanent fix I would love to hear it and try it out.
im really baffled im pissed because i didint buy it through verizon so idk maybe i can contact htc fora referb.
I've never dabbled in HTC customer service but I'm sure they would back a phone with troubles such as yours

[Q] Should I use stock when I take this for repair?

For a few months my phone has had a problem where the screen will take control of itself or become unresponsive, it's not the phone being slow, because hardware keys respond perfectly. Scrubbing the screen with a Lysol wipe helps sometimes, but I'd rather just have the problem taken care of (it seems like it's caused by fingerprints on the screen, which isn't a problem on any of my friends' SKs and initially wasn't on mine either).
Anyway, when I take my SK to T-Mo, should I flash a ROM that at least looks stock for warranty purposes or will they not care?
If I do need to go to stock, how would I go about doing that? As far as I remember, I've never taken a backup in recovery and never ODIN'ed (stupid, I know), so I've no idea what to do. I can flash ROMs perfectly fine, but going back to stock is a mind-boggler for me (disabling Voodoo, etc).
Thanks
Mine always does this.
1. The optical trackpad detects the sunlight, strong indoor lights, etc, as movement and causes spurious scrolling.
2. Water on the screen or a finger just outside the boarder of the screen causes the touchscreen to get confused and either not respond or move on its own.
3. The touchscreen driver is prone to crashing. About half the times I want to answer a call or something, I need to toggle the screen off and on with the power button before it'll work.
None of this is because the hardware has broken. 1 is due to a bad design, 2 is inherent to touchscreens of this type, and 3 is just bad programming.
Ha! I have to do #3 all the time. Glad to know it's not just me. Ridiculous.
Also FYI, #1 never happens to me. I see people here curse that damn sensor all the time, but I have never had mine move randomly in sunlight, and it generally works pretty well for me as arrow-keys.
I also do #3 all the time, and have had problems with the optical trackpad in the past (I've since disabled it).
What the problem appeared to be was that my fingers are oily or something, explaining why wiping the screen excessively was useful. I passed on taking it to the T-Mobile store and instead ordered screen protectors from Amazon. No problems since I applied one.
Has anyone else encountered this, or is this a unique problem? I got through nearly a year without having this problem, so maybe something went wonky in the screen. Anyway, problem fixed
