What's the chance of icecream sandwich? - Xoom Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I know we're struggling to get any info here in the EU about even getting the 3.1 update but dobyo think with google pushing for uniformity and open source with icecream sandwich, do you think the xoom will get the update, even here in EU?
Could this beon of the hold ups with 3.1?? Or are we non us xoom users going to be left ut in the cold with a £500+ unfinished tablet?
(Sorry if this was covered elsewhere but the search facility on xda app didnr bring up anything)

You have a device with an unlockable bootloader and fastboot. Even if Moto don't give you an ICS update, ICS will be open source, so you *will* get ICS no matter what.
(This, if you weren't already aware, is one of the reasons why people like unlockable bootloaders.)

I think there is a 98% chance of us getting ICS from Moto. They seem to take decent care of their customers...at least state side.

The phones spec's are nice, and if they would release MIUI natively without requiring a modding community that phone would probably sell like hot cakes. WTB that phone.
Yahh me2! But it's now going to come with Vanilla android 2.3.5 instead of MIUI stock.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using xda premium
At the moment They would have to make a major change in their policies before the phone could be released in the US. The GPL will need to be upheld and until that happens if you want one you will have to order one from China
Yahh since MIUI is closed source code, that would be awesome if they released it!

I just got one this week via China. Its really hard to get. They've just sold 500,000 in 24 hours and run out of stock. I doubt they will be coming to the rest of the world any time soon until they have satisfied Chinese domestic demand
Comes with stock MIUI - did an OTA update a couple of days ago. Build quality and spec is amazing for what I paid for it.
Xiaomi are offering owners the chance to beta test Android 4.0.3 (non MIUI). Not many manufacturers would take this approach
I have given up on this phone, and I am waiting on the SGS III

It's for sure they'll hold back any OTA update until the U.S. release of the Galaxy Nexus. But I want it as soon as possible! I don't understand why some people flash ICS roms with no wifi for example, when the official update is so close.

Why is it for sure? Unless you have inside info that nobody else does. Besides the US release of the Nexus won't impact sales any because the nexus s isn't on Verizon anyways.

Ok, even if everything is working just fine, it doesn't really mean it doesn't have some problems. That's why an official update is better than an "alpha"/"beta" rom.
Besides, this is the reason why you buy a Nexus S in the first place, for updates. After the OTA, it's custom rom all the way
EDIT: @Jeff Dunn: almost forgot, it makes sense to release the update AFTER the phone that is supposed to be the new android flagship. And it doesn't matter that the Nexus S isn't available on verizon. You know, there are other countries outside the US... but nevermind.

But it has been released outside the US already. Which kinda invalidates your point. Regardless though we will see it when we see it. Hopefully sooner rather than later.

Only in North America, and that's only because the American gov't has limited the scope of Huawei's dealings with American carriers. They did so because Huawei works closely with the Chinese gov't and Congress didn't like that they would sell a lot of high end phones in the U.S. In the rest of the world, you can find high end devices that are competitive with Samsung and HTC.. So thank your Congressmen and women for that.

Be happy we're getting ICS. This is a year and a half old phone.
The only reason apple updates for so long is because it has literally like 6 devices to update. HTC has like 30+, all with diffrerent RIL, screen sizes, ram, processors, and carriers.
The CyanoogenMod developers don't work for you, don't expect anything from them.

Android 4.1 is a stupid simple update from ICS. It isn't all that different and a lot of stuff will carry over. The developer's well get 4.1 running as soon as they can, if they can. The reason we don't have ICS is because we don't have a RIL yet. That should come with the first ICS leak.
If Apple's release schedule is superior then I think it's time for you to go buy an iPhone. The dev's are already pretty stressed out about this, and they do all their work for free. You honestly don't have the right to demand anything.
If you want the latest updates immediately after they come out, you should have bought a Nexus device.
Also, Cyanogenmod isn't the only AOSP build out there, and there are many better ones. I'd research into most of them, since the active CM developers for the Tbolt are working with 7, not 9(which is ICS based) it could be a while.
I also hope that your american comment was not serious, but it doesn't matter. The damage is done. Attitudes like that are the reason that a lot of other nations look down on the US and consider the citizen's ignorant and stupid.

what i am saying is that it is stupid how long it takes from the time google/moto releases the code to it gets to us on our phones. Very Nice! Although what it does not say is how long the implementation will take. By that time most everyone here will have most likely traded in their A2 for a Galaxy SIII. Or something more powerful. Look at how long ICS is taking to hit the US A2.
If we don't get JB the $100 offer will be useless to me unless Motorola makes the next Nexus device.
I wonder if they are going to skip ICS and go straight to JB (att version)? May this be what's holding up the ICS soak?

Keep in mind folks, as far as the "developing options" goes, I doubt that means unlocking the bootloader.
We already have a "development options" tab in our leak, remember? That may be why it's on the leak, because Moto was testing it before it was released.
This could be nice. But... if they expect to get the updates out by the end of the year, they ought to start kicking a** instead of dragging it. I'm hopeful.

Their phones are top notch, but they're locked, which is supposedly gonna change, so I'd take a hundred bucks towards a new Motorola if its unlocked, if not my girlfriend can have it.
