Grip Tape/Suede/Leather - HTC Inspire 4G

To start off, I'm not a huge fan of cases. Yes they're cheap "insurance" but I just don't like the feel of them. Coming from a Bold 9700 I LOVED the synthetic leather backing used. Looked professional and gave me a bit of extra grip. Move onto this phone and it's quite slick. I would like to put some sort of backing on it for extra grip, but I feel that grip tape would look tacky(I'm picky) and be too aggressive. Just wondering if anyone has gone this route with another material instead of using a case.

if you like the look of Carbon Fiber the phantomskinz carbon fiber chromatics give a nice grip to the back of the phone ( at least they did when I had it on my Captivate). I think the other Chromatics are smooth though so you have to get either the white or black carbon fiber ones.

Thanks for the company. They seem to have some stuff that might fit the bill. I also found a company that has sheets you can cut to fit at work, and being the forgetful person that I am, forgot to write the name down. :hs: And why does the iPhone get all the cool cases/grips?

I like the concept of using a metal case but i want to see how thick it is, will scratch etc. before i purchase one!
Thanks guys
im not a big fan of this case but it safe but it ruing the beauty of the phone in my opinion
The open screen design kinda defeats the purpose. Yes, these tend to be big and ugly, but you can hit it like a baseball.
they are okay for all protection, except shocks like drop to a concrete floor or something, the screen will still break
too inconvenient to receive calls and use the phone inside the case
eeeks, this case is ugly and uncomfortable to use on a daily basis
here the same product but in a different colour http://www.pdair.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=10100000_10000000_11000993&products_id=30918
they always comes in Gun Metal (black) and plain silver Aluminum look.
i used it when with my Treo 650, horrible case, they always get in the way
there's my black leather case ..... http://www.husepiele.ro/telefon/sam...ung-gt-i9000-galaxy-s-noreve-flip-neagra.html

Trident Aegis

Trident has the aegis case up on their website for G2x. They only seem to have it in blue and green right now though.
Ordered a green one- will let you know, maybe get some pics up.
Also Fortte supposedly has a leather case in the works, but no details on it. I decided I wanted the ability to use the phone after I had a previous bookstyle case for a blackjack. That was a pain to make a call on.
Like the way it looks but also looks bulky?
Review and pictures would be appreciated.
http://www.tridentcase.com/product_67_92.html
It seems to be available in Black, Blue, Green, Pink and Red now. I am eager to hear how you like the case once you get it.
just from looking at the picture it looks gigantic i dun think its for everyone, more for like outdoor ppl or ppl who always break there phone. But it does look solid but could be better. They should make a slimmer version of the case.
Hey, these looks great!
I might pick up one while I wait for an otter-box, if they ever come around.

It's definitely going to add bulk to it. I have the Aegis for the myTouch 4G. It's bulky but provides very good protection for your phone.
Edit: If you guys are not in a hurry I would suggest waiting for this case to become available at CyclopsCase.com. I think they are a distributor for Trident cases. They are $10 cheaper. That's where I bought my Aegis case and it was shipped for free too.
just ordered the green. I have been a fan of the trident cases for a long time, the cases are top, top quality and offer amazing protection. I had a cyclops on my old MT4G and it was a beast, the Aegis does not look as bulky, but i am sure it will protect very well. I will post pics when it arrives.
The green and red one looks nice. I want to get one later on.
Review of Trident Aegis case for G2x (green)
$30 for case and screen protector
Bought this case to get corner and drop protection- I chose this over a Tech21 Nexus S slip case or a fortte leather case (not released yet) or PDair case because with the touchscreen, I didn't want to have to remove it, use it, put it back in. I wanted quick out of pocket check of email/calendar, back into pocket. I had a book style case (pdair) with an older blackjack II, and I hated the flap front cover when I wanted to make a call.
Shipping was fast via USPS, however I didn't get the screen protector in the box for some reason- the tape did not look neat, so I can't say if it got opened and pilfered in transit. I still have the OEM film protector that came with it, so I will just wait for a new ship of the screen protector from Trident customer service and have that as a backup.
Inner silicone is smooth- doesn't feel tacky to the touch at all so I don't think it will attract dust/lint like other more rubbery silicone. Hard polycarbonate is also smooth, though it doesn't feel like hard plastic that will chip, so that is good. I was worried about Seido as they have many forum posts about corners and tabs breaking. This doesn't feel like it will chip or break away unless I purposefully snapped it.
The final fit is good- it isn't super snug like some of the trident iPad and iPod reviews suggest. It isn't looks- it fits well, and I feel like I could get it apart without hassle to pull the battery if I wanted to.
Ports are covered with silicone tabs- volume and power work well- you have to give a little push since it is below the silicone. Tabs fit right below the hard polycarbonate to keep the in place. Micro USB cable plugs in well- the only port I may have to get an extender with is the 3.5 mm headphone jack since i have an L shaped jack instead of straight jack. It would have to fit with the L portion pushing out over the tab (think due south if looking straight at jack) and couldn't fit at any other angle out (north/west/east), but I think the extender that Trident has (which wasn't in stock when I ordered) would be the best option. Ill probably get something from Amazon or monoprice.
Camera holes and proximity sensor are holes- no plastic covering them, which is fine with me.
Fit in pocket (for a guy) is fine- it doesn't really add much unnecessary bulk. Width is about 11/16 of an inch, height is about 4 and 14/16. Phone/case is about as thick as my older BlackJack II without its case, so I am fine with it.
Overall I am happy with it. I can't say anything about the screen protector until I get a replacement, but I won't be using it until the OEM one peels off. I've never held an Otterbox so I can't compare quality, but frankly I don't think the O'box would be much different in quality. Or at least to justify waiting/pleading with them to get a case out for the G2x. I think it works for my needs- if I had decided on a leather case, I probably would have either gone with the Tech21 Nexus S (same dimensions) or waited to see what Fortte came out with, since Noreve and Sena are too expensive. I wish it was $20-$25, but I can see some of the engineering that went into it so I'm not too worried about the price.
Pros-
Nice non tacky silicone and polycarbonate shell.
Ports are covered but can be accessed.
Camo green is a nice green
Fit is secure but not too tight that I can't take it out.
Cons-
Wish they had more colors for the silicone (would have done a black poly shell with orange silicone to go with my company colors). They have this for the iPhone and a few others.
3.5 mm port likely needs an extender for L-shaped headphone jacks
Screen protector missing, but that may be a problem during shipping. Am not too worried about CS helping me out with this one.
Wish it would have cost $5 less, but it had free shipping, so evens out in the end.

The case looks great! I ordered the green one too! Cannot wait to get it. Thanks for the over view and awesome pics.
Just got the blue one, this is def the best case around.....just as good as a otterbox
FYI- Trident replied to my inquiry about the screen protector, and said that the case does not come with one- it was an error during the first few days of creating the store entry. So don't expect one with the case.
Just received mine in the mail today. 3 days flat which is good going. I got the green and black and could not be happier. The rubber surround is very thick and offers a lot of protection, it will definitely protect against a serious drop.
The back of the case is a hard plastic, but it has a great rubber texture to it.
For the price you cannot go wrong. I have always used trident cases on my phones and have never been disappointed and the same goes for this case. I highly recommend it
Got mine today. I to went with the green. This is a great case I'm very pleased with it. I wish they would make one of there other series that have the screen cover but I asked on facebook an was told there is no plans on making any other series at this point

My take on Trident case
Shipping was really fast. I ordered on Monday and got it in yesterday. I got the red/black one for my G2x, and pink/black Aegis case for the Samsung Galaxy S 4g for my lady. Was really impressed with the build, the grip, and especially the tabs that cover the ports. At first I was totally happy with the size...until I put my girl's on. The design of her case was made to keep her phone both protected and without adding too much bulk to it. I admit I was jealous at first, but that all changed once my phone and case was tested. My phone got thrown about 3 feet from my really high bed, onto my really hard tiled floor. Was worried, but the case did its job. Had it not been for the design of the case, my phone would of been totaled. It really helped protecting the G2x. Overall satisfaction is at it's highest. Definitely recommend this case to anyone wanting to protect their phone without worrying too much about size. Hope this post helps

Just ordered the black one from ebay. $23 shipped... not bad.
After heavy research I decided to try this brand out. I've never owned a Trident case before but as far as protection goes, this looks like the best case out for the g2x.
We shall see!
Had a Cyclops for my vibrant ordered a blue one yesterday shipped out today. If the case in n e thing like my Cyclops for my vibrant I will be happy with it.

I just picked one up from ebay myself...ordered the blue for $21 and change with free shipping...expected delivery will be the 24-25th. I figure it will be nice to have something like this for when I'm out doing recreation, and keep my seidio for business and nightlife.

Battery/back covers?

Does anyone know of anywhere to buy battery/back covers for our phones besides the factory white/black?
I'm not looking for a case, I don't want nor care for a case, I like to feel and see my phone, but I have not been able to find any battery/back covers. I'd love to get a carbon fiber battery/back cover and have the look of like the razor. I think it looks fantastic.
Only places I've tried or know to search on is eBay or Amazon.
I found these but they are for the i9100, not sure if it fits our phone. I only saw white/black specifically for our phone.

I saw an aluminum one on Amazon, I have yet to see a carbon fiber one for the Skyrocket though.

The the i9100 ones won't work, the camera opening is completely different. Those are like a square, the skyrocket is a vertical rectangle shape. Thanks for the idea though.
Have you thought about a skin instead of a whole new battery door?
There is a carbon fiber one here: http://www.skinomi.com/sk9778-samsung-galaxy-s2-skyrocket-carbon-fiber-skin-protector.html
Brad, you freaking rock! That is a great alternative. And achieves what I desire. Thank you sir
No prob :good:
If you get it.. come back and bump this thread to let ppl know how it works. Not like our accessories thread is poppin' anyways.
Skinomi isn't the only option, albeit they are a good one.. I remember seeing more, i'll just have to take a bit more time & look.
A couple more:
http://www.bodyguardz.com/armor-carbon-fiber-samsung-galaxy-s-ii-skyrocket.html
I know people that swear by ghost-armor:
http://www.ghost-armor.com/Samsung/718.html (price is a little higher.. but more options -- like gunmetal)
Which of those brands would you recommend?
As far as color I'm kind of digging the red carbon fiber. Black would look much cleaner though.
I've only ever used the clear skins.. Tried a bodyguardz and a skinomi. They were both about the same.. Mind you, this was for the clear skins.
The thickness/feel/design for the skins your looking for may be different.
With skins, you need to take care of them.. Its sooooo easy to have a corner lift when putting it in your pocket and lint gets stuck behind it.
Check out the warranty/return info.. then try them out. If they have a good return policy, you could simply get another, or get your $ back if you dont like it.
If you go that route, make sure not to discard or lose any pieces because they will want all of them back if you return or trade it in.
Good Luck!
I've got a clear ghost-armor full body on my sr and love it but when I was at the kiosk the kid working it had the black carbon fiber on his and it looked pretty nice. I use a case as well most of the time and the carbon fiber is a little thicker so couldn't use it on mine but I did like it. They also had 1 in the kiosk that had white and black carbon fiber and that looked pretty nice too... Don't know about skinomi or the other brand so can't really say anything about them but ghost armor is a pretty good brand and if there's any problems with the skin they'll replace for free...

$10.
There is a matte or gloss choice.
You won't be able to feel the design, but it looks great. They Have a bunch of skins.
Hey guys thanks for all your links and effort to help, I cannot for the life of me decide on which company to buy from. Some one just pick for me already! Lol
I've also used Phantom Skinz on my T-Mobile G2 in Carbon Fiber, loved it!
http://phantomskinz.com/ Check them out as well
I just put this one on a few days ago, and really like it
http://www.shopandroid.com/bodyguardz-armor-carbon-fiber/4AA9575.htm
It feels thicker than a typical film. When you put it on, you will definitely notice it's there, as the film is alittle thick (which i think is a good thing) and has a rugged texture. Once all the pieces are on, it almost feels like you have a super thin case. Installation wasn't too difficult, and it even came w/ a screen protector (though I haven't put that one on yet since I already have one).

Review of Four Different Cases

Okay guys I'll start this off by saying that I am not impressed with the current case selection for this phone. Now, let's begin with the review.
1.The first case I'll start with will be my Rearth Ringke Fusion hybrid case. I loved this case to death when I first received it on the same day I got my phone, and it has been my favorite case since I got my new one (more on that in a minute ). It feels great in the hand, as it's completely ergonomically similar to the phone itself, and the button feedback is a dream. The clear plastic back has much to be desired, however. The plastic smudges, smears and attracts fingerprints like no other. It also is slippery. VERY slippery. Keep in mind that I have hands that are almost always moist in some form or fashion, so the back plastic of this thing felt like butter. All in all, a very good case and I highly recommend it, except for those with moist hands!
2. Next is my replica Google official bumper. (Replica is perfectly identical to the actual one.) I bought this bumper in conjunction with a carbon fiber dbrand skin, (I still have that on, props to dbrand for making the best skin in the world!) and I was honestly a little disappointed. The stippled texture that bands the sides and sandwiches the fake aluminum plastic piece together feels amazing in the hand. My moist sweaty hands had no problems gripping this bumper, except for the fake aluminum plastic piece that I just mentioned. It's not totally matte, but it's not totally glossy either, it's an odd mixture that feels great to touch, but for me it was a tad slick. It wasn't nearly as bad as the Ringke Fusion case but it was enough for me to take it off sometimes. The buttons clicked with pride and although it did add quite a bit of width to the phone, it had an awesome fitment, no flex or peeling of materials found on this bumper! I would still definitely recommend this case despite the negatives.
3. The other day, (Friday), I received my Mercury TPU case (black), and boy let me tell you something. My hands promptly said NOPE right when I got it on the phone. For some reason I must've been on some crazy drug and bought the thing thinking that it would be some grippy, sticky rubber case. WRONG. All I'm going to say on this one is, misaligned speaker and microphone cutouts, super slippery and the finish on the face of the skin where you see it almost all the time has an orange peel look to it, almost like a ZAGG screen protector. However, the sparkles on the back really made me want to play some funky music!
4. Today, (about 15 minutes before I wrote this), I got my Ringke Slim case in the mail. One complaint: I got an older version, the one with the loose volume slot, but it's not a big deal as I can't really hear any creaking. Other than that minor mishap, for the fifteen minutes I've been using this thin case, and it is EXTREMELY thin, I'm proud to say that this is my favorite case thus far. The matte finish has a soft-touch coating on it that feels like heaven, the button cutouts and speaker, mic cutouts are spot on and without flaws. Most people don't notice it, but this case actually has four little feet on the screen side on the case that allows you to set the phone on it's face and not get the screen scratched. Nice!
The complete lack of top coverage is nice FOR ME because I can finally put my ATH-M50's in my phone without having to remove the case! :good:
Keep in mind that the Slim is a totally different case than the other three, most similar to the bumper however.

4. http://www.rearthusa.com/google-nexus-4-ringke-slim-case
I've been in search of a case i'll actually like. Been thinking about getting the ringke slim but i'm just afraid of the lack of protection. I've never dropped my n4 but for that one time that i do, it'll be great to have the protection.
I also have the ringke fusion, it's a nice case but the back gets dirty and gross pretty easy. The official bumper just feels bulky and my headphones don't fit.
got my Ringke Slim 4 days after i got my n4, had the official bumper ordered with the phone but it just made it too bulky for my taste.
Had my ringke the rest of the time and never looked back. it IS the best case i've ever used on a phone. this comiing from a person who doesnt like to put cases on phone but with this phone just wanted that extra protection. its very slim and doesnt add any bulk what so ever. going on 6 months with the slim and still rocking it.
I own three of the four cases that op reviewed. Exactly my same thoughts for the most part. Pretty well done review. Kudos. Although I would be semi cautious about the official bumper as its known to cracking on the bottom of the usb port. The slim is a really nice case but if covering the back isn't your thing then it isn't the case for you.

I would be tempted to request another one, mine is an absolute perfect fit with all the cut outs being in the correct places. Regarding its slippyness after a couple of days use it starts to get more grippy.
Out of the 4 cases i have bought for the Nexus 4 this is the only one i have kept lol
The Rinke Slim i had was the worst of the lot, made my phone really slippy and offered zero protection.
Honestly I'm surprised there aren't more people using/reviewing the Acase Superleggera pro. I've tried a hatful of cases and by far the Acase is perfect for me. The only complaint that people have for it is that it's bulky, but for me that's a pro. I want my pocket to feel slightly heavy (like 40 grams more than the phone?) to know that my phone is still there, and then I can avoid those mini heart attacks that you get when you think you've lost your phone.
The protection is the best out there,it looks great, isn't slippery at all, feels premium in your hand, button feedback is excellent, not too much of a fingerprint magnet and doesn't interfere with my screen protector.
The only downside is that the back isn't transparent but you get over that initial fascination of showing off the back soon anyway.
I like the Acase pretty well. The amount of lint that it picks up bothers me more than anything. I think it would be nice if the inner case was a light - medium grey, so the lint is less apparent. I have the Mercury, Superleggera, Ringke Slim, and Poetic bumper. I change them out all of the time because I'm not completely satisfied with any of them.
Sent from my Nexus 4
since you have protection on the back and you are using the Rinke slim which is made to fit precisely, do you feel like it is adding too much pressure to the phone? I have a feeling that may have happened to mine and when i squeeze the top part of my phone it creaks. I'm not sure if this was the cause, but if yours has zero creaks then I will assume it is safe to have the skin on the back along with the case.

I ordered one of these yesterday after reading many reviews. Looks like the best bang for the buck and some decent drop protection, which many of the other cases don't have. I also like the fact that the measurements have it only slightly more bulky than the Diztronics case I have, so it will fit in my leather holster perfectly.

I bought a Minisuit (transparent) for protection when going camping, beach, or a very wet day. And I also bought the Poetic bumper. The minisuit is great, the only problem is that the power button sometimes is hard to press. With the Poetic I had problems with the first unit they send me, it broke in a week. I called poetic and they replaced the bumper with (2) new ones, they told me that they had problems with the first batch they ordered, but they assured me that the new one was perfect, today it's been 4 months since I'm using the Poetic and I can say is been great, no pealing, no plastic coming off, and I still have a replacement new one just in case.
I got a white color of ringke slim case. the material is too slippery. never like it. plus the corners feel really sharp by touching it it may scratch my N4.
I ordered Incipio feather case. It may not be slim as ringke but it feels really good.

improve grip without adding bulk?

I really like how the premium materials on the s6 feel but it's likeholding a piece of ice dipped in lube.. crazy slippery. this also makes for very awkward hand positioning if you dare use one hand (which i attempt to do).. this phone is already kinda too-big for me ... also, it's incredibly insecure inside a pocket. if you lie down, it will fall out. if you're wearing something loose like sweat pants and sit down, it will fall out..
i'm looking for a solution to improve grip but i HATE cases .. especially on a phone this big. something like a skin/wrap seemsperfect but I'd like to know how much grip these add. Ideally, I feel like 2 thin strips of a grippy vinyl along the edges would be enough but more realistically, a full back wrap would likely be the way to go.
dbrand and slickwraps seem to be the most popular ones. i like the look of the leather wraps but it seems like they feel more like paper in person (based on youtube reviews). I wish someone made a clear full-back cover made out of a gripper plastic (like old school palm pilot screen protectors).. that would likely work.
anyone have experience/recommendations?
The InvisibleShield HDX by Zagg works really nicely for the S6.
I've got to say, though. Nothing could be more slippery than the HTC One M8. Awesome phone, but very slick.
The official Samsung shell case adds some grip while still retaining the look of the phone. It's lightly textured hard plastic.
I remember seeing a post a long time ago where someone sprayed Plasti-dip on the back of their phone. I'm sure that would definitely add grip, and it is reversible. Not sure it's something I'd want to do, but it is an option.
Just did a quick search :

P.s.- you can get Plasti-dip in multiple colors, including clear.
I am really loving The neo hybrid by spigen.
Probably a bit thicker than a skin, but still minimalist, try the Spigen thin fit BLACK color. The other colors (maybe there aren't other colors for the S6?) are slippery. The black one has a very nice grip, but still easy to take out of pockets. Also, it protects the camera lens .
I have the Samsung shell case, seriously its like having no case on the phone but does add grip

Comes in other colours.
a suggestion
You might want to look at the Tech21 Evo Check at Best Buy. It adds very little bulk to the phone, but a whole lot of grip. I'm waiting for an Urban Armor Gear Outland to be delivered , and although the Tech21 case is not cheap, it gives me peace of mind until the UAG arrives.
I got a spigen clear flexible skin on ebay for around 12 dollars. Very nice slim and adds a lot of grip and still lets the phone shine thru
I got dbrand leather carbon finer skin for the back. It's less slippery to hold and no bulk added.
there is really not a solution for you.
Just get a SUPER thin case
I always found adding a cheap clear skin protector on the back add just the amount of grip you need. Worked for the Sony Z3 as well as htc one M7/M8 from my personal experience.
You could wrap your phone once around with Saran Wrap. Might look a little funky, but it will give you some more grip.
if you don't want a case but want grip and never drop your phone then checkout the flygrip it uses double sided adhesive to attach to your phone and also works as a kickstand in potrait and landscape mode , been using it for years on all my devices , but if you wireless charge then it will get in the way and wont work
I bought a pure gear case. Very slim with rubber siding and clear!! I've used them on several phones. Great feel and low bulk. I also added a screen protector

I know these are expensive but they seem to be a great quality and are truly the thinnest case I have ever seen. You should be able to try them out at your local Best Buy to see if you like it.

hello dont agree, i think its a very well made case, if the case drop, it will hurt one of the corner and will preserve the metal part, try to put the phone on a table in all position you want, the lens and metal part will never in contact with anything (sorry for my english
