[Q] 3.1 Instructions for noobs? - Eee Pad Transformer Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Could someone please post some fool-proof instructions for the 3.1 leak? I have good experience on my DInc but I just have a few questions for flashing this on the TF:
1. We don't have to be rooted, correct?
2. Must it be placed on an SD or can I download it to internal storage?
3. After the update, will we still get the normal OTA update next week?
4. Can i just use the SD Card in my DInc or will that mess stuff up?

1. No root needed
2. Sd card (removable storage)
3. If you're up to date no OTA
4. If it's a micro sd formatted correctly it should work.
Best to post this in the 3.1 thread in the dev section

This isn't related to development. He posted in the right section. I have some instructions posted on my blog. Try those out.

[RECOVERY] clockwork Mod

paul @modaco has achieved a custom recovery, which he has realeased as a beta, but why not let all the users hereon xda know to, this is why i am posting this solution now.

So was this method similar to the Droid X psuedo recovery which hijacks the boot process?
I'm having a issue with the backup process, it keeps trying to back up ALL data on the internal memory instead of just the app data portion. Has anyone else experienced this issue?

Xoom did the same thing. We had to move all media to computer or microsd so it didn't get backed up.

There has already been a version 5.x.x.x posted here that seems to fully work just fine. Why would anyone want to go back to an older version? This is even earlier than the one Solarnz and Roach have introduced.

some of that info is in serious need of updating. The new CWM is not really that old. Kind of suprising that the thread is that out of date. Even Roach and Solarnz are updated more than this one.

[Q] Noob Xoom question.

Just got this thing and have been reading but just want a definitive answer to 2 questions.
1: SDCard slot does not work yet?
2: I have the WiFi Xoom, so I can't get data if I put a SIM Card in the SIM slot?
Thanks.
1) Not on the stock Xoom. If you root and install a custom kernel (see development section) you will have access to external SD card.
2) No

Like he told you, the stock 3.0.1 Android, does not support SD neither the 3.1. But whit a "rooted" SO u can do it.
If you need the update and some guide, i can help u. Or if you want to search in the forums its ok.
See ya!
if you go over to the development forums it will tell you how to root and install a kernel that will allow you to use your sd card. Imo it is worth it, and not that hard to do.
As far as the 3g data it would be a pretty labor intensive job, but I think some people are looking at how to do it.

Thanks again for the info. Right now, I am not in need of any extra storage, so I can just wait for Motorola OR root later.

[Q] ICS update interrupted by CWM! Why?

I have the Skyrocket (of course) and recently downloaded ICS OTA, or some sort of update. The phone rebooted as normal, but gave me the Clock Work Mod screen. I rebooted the phone from there and got a nice error message on my home screen saying the update was interrupted. What am I doing wrong? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Maybe im wrong but to do an update like that dont you have to be on stock recovery not cwm. I know some of the experts will chime in. FYI make sure you put things like this in Q&A for future ref.
I'm not sure if it was ICS or not. But I simply clicked on "Check for updates" under device management and I have one. The phone downloads the update but when it restarts I get the CWM Recovery screen. I'm new to Clock Work, but I went ahead and restored my phone to a previous setting through Rom Manager and tried again. Same thing. Do I need to disable CWM?
This is why I made this thread

Yeah but we all know that no one reads the first page. Oh well same old song and dance lol.
@Madmax, how do I get on a stock recovery. I apologize for being a total noob at this. I couldn't find anything in any other forums.

First thing you need to specify, are you with rogers? Which phone do you have exactly?
flash the recovery file from sammobile through odin. Which also has ICS tar for the Rogers equivalent. Download the file, flash through odin. There is an All in one guide for noobs near the top of the general forum with layed out instructions, just find the post you need on the front page and follow those instructions. It should be listed under returning to stock or unrooting.
i would download the ICS tar from sammobile and use the method in the guide.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1342348
That will show you how to get back to stock. that is the first sticky in the dev section.
Edit: oh beat me to it i type too slow lol.
As this is a question it belongs in Q&A. To OP your questions should should have answers in the stickies and the many Upgrade related thread elsewhere. But since the community pitched in I will just placce in Q&A.
Cheers

Need help updating stock phone to ICS

Hey guys whats up,
I have a friend that wants to update his phone from GB 2.3.6 to the latest ICS 4.0...I have tried samsung kies and is says connecting for like 5 minutes.is not working for me.i have installed the drivers...is there anyway to download the update from somewhere else & installed the update without using Kies?
Thanks

Completely uninstall Kies, reboot, then reinstall it if you want to use Kies. It might work, I'm not sure. More info here.
Otherwise you can probably flash the official firmware files using Odin. I can't remember where to get them, but I know there's a link somewhere in this forum to the official files.
Im getting an error now.says No SIM card inserted.Unable to continue communication.Phone is running on a Tmobile SIM card

SD card problem

Hi, new on this section. I didn't root (and hoped not to unless drastic situations appear) and since I didn't get the OTA update for Android 5.0, I got impatient and flashed it. It's all going well until I realise I have less storage than I am supposed to have. This is because I have two sd cards on my storage. Or as ES File Explorer says so. They re storage/emulated/0 and storage/emulated/legacy. Basically, whatever I have is duplicated and doubled. What I add or remove in one goes in the other so deleting one is not an option. Any idea on what I should do?
Thanks. I have root in case you're wondering.
EDIT: Problem is something else. Check page 2. Please help! Thanks.
Wow... Nope.. You are the first person to have ever mentioned this issue
Sent from my Android 5.0 Nexus 5
Its not duplicated at all. 2 paths to the same location.
As you're new to this forum, please read all the sticky threads in general. This is already covered.

If that is so, then why does my storage show lesser available space than usual? Why do i "use" 8gb if i only actually used 4gb, thus taking up more of my 12.something GB?

Let's say he is right. It isn't duplicated. Then is it possible for me to fill up 8GB worth of stuff into my phone? Cuz then the file managers etc. will read as 16GB which is more than the 12.55 GB I have. Therefore transfer incomplete.
Do a factory reset from the boot loader/recovery
Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk
If you have TWRP or similar, then just wipe the user data partition. Had to do it on mine as it was showing 16Gb instead of 32Gb after flashing the factory image.
Okay, I realised that its not the duplication of my storages that's the problem. It shows I use 11.7 GB when I just use 8GB. Therefore, there is 3.7GB storage taken up by an unknown source. Do I still use the method stated above?
Well? Anything can be done about this problem of mine? 3.7 GB is quite a bit of space out of my 12.55GB.
Bump. I really need help.
