[Q] Quick root question.. - Eee Pad Transformer Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I just received my TF and updated to 8.2.3.13 ... is it correct that no root has been created for this firmware yet?
i use the dock alot so the bug fixes included with that update seem important to me.. should i just wait until root access has been accomplished for this firmware or should I roll back to a "rootable" firmware and do it that way?
If the latter part of the above paragraph is the best way to go, can someone direct me on how to roll back to an older firmware.
I really appreciate the help! the TF is awesome! Glad i managed to grab one.

[Q] TRANSFORM 2.2 update

I rooted my Transform but I didn't install the unofficial Froyo. My question is that do I need to unroot in order to get the official update that is now available, on to my phone? I'm still new to the Android system and I want to be sure I don't screw anything up with the phone. Also, if I do need to unroot, can someone point me in the right direction on how to do it? I've seen a few different threads on here for it, but want to make sure I get the right one.
Thanks for your help.
Edit: I found my answer. Thanks for reading.

Help pls - Root vs Forced Update

Hi everyone,
I'm running a rooted Transformer HC 3.1 and Netformer overclocking kernel.
Today I got an OTA update notification, and the update is already downloaded on my TF. I have chosen to postpone the update since I know it will fail, but I can only do this 3 times.
Questions:
1. Is there a way to cancel the update completely at this point?
2. If I let it try to update I know it will fail, but will the device still be usable normally i.e. exactly like before the attempted update?
3. Is there a way to unroot the TF without wiping the data? I would hate to have to set everything up again.
Thanks for your quick help, it seems that I don't have much time before the forced update.
I'm rooted also,if you go to this thread here and read it from front to back,i think you will find your answer... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1171116
I'm gonna wait for a bigger update or a rooted version of this update.

Thanks, I 've read through the whole thread.
I don't think anyone mentioned being able to cancel the update though. Perhaps deleting the downoaded installation file would help, I might try just that...

[Q] Iconia A500 3.2.1 ota downgrade

Did you have 3.2.1 installed or 3.2? Mainly was hoping to use method 2 as it seems more noob proof. Tottaly new to android and dont really get the gist of custom firmware yet. I thought with method 2 their would be less chance of something going wrong.
i had 3.2
i used the following soft: EUUs_SBK_Acer_A501_0.017.01_PA_ATT.exe
i just edit config in the remp folder. i changed uid and model from 501 to 500
Today i bit the bullet and tried method 2 all went smooth no issue now running thors rom on rooted iconia edit note I was on default acer australia rom 3.2.1
ok so after playing with custom roms for full day and not finding one I liked more than the stock I decided to return to stock. I got it done from the 3.2 ota rom from the developer section. Just wondering if I have to do anything else to receive ota updates again. I have used the check for update feature but it says I'm up to date when I know there is a 3.2.1 update available as I had it before I installed the custom from. Is it just a matter of waiting for it?
Anyone here or anywhere else on the web been able to get hold of the stock
3.2.1 update to sideload the update?
ok after spending most of the day reading this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1113878 and trying to digest all the info gee major brain scrammble looks like I will no longer receive ota updates. My bad should have spent more time reading instead of jumping in head first. So now I can either wait for ota updates to be posted here and manually update or go back to custom roms full time. So looks like I will be going with option 2 I found a thread here that ics is in the works so don't feel so bad bout my major stuff up. Out of interest will Acer restore defaults for a price?
Back to stock and getting ota updates see my post on page 25 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1155664
Hi bulcmal, you seem to know how to solve my question:
I own a new ICONIA A500 and after a few moment with it I updated to 3.2 without reading about it and knowing that has a lot of bugs. Now I want to go back to OTA 3.1 so my question is next one:
After I use the second method presented here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1276227
Can I update to 3.1 freely (using the update function on the settings).
Thanks a lot.
Method 2 downgrade and you have the right room for your country I don't see why it wouldn't work. After you downgrade when it reboots you will get lots of force close don't panic its fine, then shutdown tablet complete remove your micro sd card delete the downgrade rom and copy the stock rom to the sd card( I just used a cheap card reader for this) then reboot while holding down volume button on left side and power button keap holding till small white text appears in upper left of tablet screen. On a side note its very important to test unzip both updates (the downgrade rom and the stock rom) to be sure they are not corrupt if the process fails to unzip either update you could brick your tab. Also both roms will be called update. Zip don't unzip files any further than this other than to test that they can be unzipped without issues. I take no responsibility if things go pear shaped just describing what I did.

I wouldn't risk updating from the settings menu the downgrade rom is very unstable and you may get errors see post above cheers.
Hi, I read the post above and have two more questions:
First:
I bought the tablet on Amazon US. How do I know which rom do I need?
And second:
After I flash the stock rom, the OTA updates will be available?
I am new to this flashing thing so bare with me if my questions are a bit stupid.
Thanks a lot.
Do you think this will work with a USB storage?

I dont know wich stock rom you would need Usally you would search for the rom based on what country you are in. But seeing as you imported it I dont know how it would work. On the other hand if you got ota updates in your country perhaps it is now running your countries firmware. I succesfully got ota updates after doing this.

??? Do you mean can you use usb storage to do the downgrade and the installation of the stock rom? If so I think it only works from the micro sd card slot.
Also guys the 3.2.1 update is currently being rolled out if you dont need root you could always wait for that update it may also fix your issues cheers
how long has the 3.2.1 update been rolling out? still stuck on 3.2 here in melbourne. I got the tablet a week ago and it updated only up to 3.2.
I originally got it early-mid november, then acer pulled the update. It was re released about 2 weeks ago. I am still waiting for it to come back to.
ok, thought i was being left behind. guess i have to be patient lol

Help with unrooting and making OTA updates work again?

Hello,
Well first off, I have unrooted the tablet already (I think). I followed this guide here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1154947&highlight=easy+unroot
I would have posted my question there, but apparently this forum wont let me post there since I do not have 10 posts yet.
I currently have version 3.2.1 installed, have the stock recovery installed, and do not have superuser showing in my apps list.
However, I am still not getting ICS OTA update. So I can only assume I've done something wrong.
I realize I can simply download ICS firmware update from asus and update it the same way I did 3.2.1 after unrooting, however that wont work. I'm trying to make sure OTA updates are working because I'm giving this table to my computer illiterate sister and need updates to work OTA for her.
Thank you for any assistance!
Asus pulled the OTA ICS update because of reported widespread problems with it.
Hello Steven6282,
any luck already? was ICS cancelled by asus?
Maybe the solution I mentioned in the post below will help?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=19468648&postcount=7
on that forum they have stock 3.2 Build of 8.6.5.13 in nvflash. But his depend if you are able to use nvflash (serial number of your tablet)? I used this method and then ota also works again. this way your tablet is really stock without tweaks.
goodluck.

[Q] Root, custom recovery, and flashing roms

Ok, so I've been in the root/flashing scene for a while.
I'm very experience with locked bootloaders like my Verizon Note3, but I'm not so sure about my Shield tablet.
I know root is easily attainable, and flashing should be about the same as the others.
My question is, in the event things go badly, is there a way to get back on the stock/non-rooted image?
What about updating the software via OTA to keep being able to gamestream? Does it break root and just force me to root again
or does it not allow me to update? If my Shield dies for whatever reason and I have to RMA, can I return it to 100% stock?
I looked over the forums and couldn't find any full answers, so hopefully you guys can help me.
Thanks in advance.

NVidia posts complete factory images on their website for restoration.
Also, all of their OTAs are full system images instead of patches/deltas. So you can safely update via OTA, root and other modifications won't break the OTA (but the OTA will get rid of any modifications including root.)
