Does anyone know if using a 3G device while having a 4G data plan can cause damage to the actual device??
If I understand correctly, you have a 4G plan but your device does not support 4G.
In that case, no it won't. Your plan will just allow for 4G devices to be on it but if your device is not 4G capable it will simply use 3G and wont hurt anything.

I have had no luck getting my Vibrant to work with my T-mobile blackberry plan. Phone works, but no data.
If I get a Captivate, unlock it, will it work with T-mobile's blackberry plan for data?
I don't care if it's just 2g and not 3g, I just want data...
I was told by AT&T that it wouldn't work because the data is provisioned differently. I wanted to keep my Bold 9000 for work and the Captivate for all other times and couldn't do it. I'll have to assume that T-Mobile also provisions their data differently.
At&t 3G runs off a completely different radio frequency so an at&t phone wont work on T-Mobile 3g. It will work with 2g and data provisions have nothing to do with it. Still a GSM network. Just get your unlock code for your sim and switch away

An unlocked Captivate will work on Tmobile but you will only get Edge for data.
There is a big draw back as these phone were never design with anythin less than 3G in mind. When ever I was using data (edge) all my voice call went straith to voice mail with no indications of any missed calls.
With Wifi it's fine. Even peoples with AT&T 3G have these problems when they travel to an area with only 2G coverage. Even a person in India told me the same thing with his Galaxy S.
Yeah with edge you cannot talk and use data at the same time. That's why when you're using data it will not allow calls to go through until the data stops transferring.

You should be able to stick with your current plan. That's what they did for me, and many other posters.
Are you actually seeing a 3G icon? What UL/DL speeds are you getting?
There's currently no way to disable 4G and force 3G. You can disable WCDMA, but that will force 2G only.
Tmobile's 4G is actually just 3G plus great marketing. You can disable 3G to help your battery but then you'd be down to just EDGE.
I am getting 4g service I was just wondering wether there was a 4g sim cand or something that would improve the spewed cause honestly its only a little faster. Also for some reason my Yahoo mail won't sync any sugggestions. And btw I'm loving this phoon coming from the hd7

So, to clarify, are you saying there's no protocol difference between TMO's 3G and "4G"? Is the TMO 4G just an upgrade in speed of the same 3G data connection? Since it seems there are 4G SIMs, and the IMEI needs to be registered as 4G, and the phone needs special HW and SW for 4G, I was under the impression that TMO's 4G is actually a different protocol.
I understand TMO's 4G does not meet the speed definition of true 4G, but it could still be using a separate data format and protocol than 3G.
On my phone so I really can't provide all the links and stuff but tmobile's
4G is hspa+ which is 3G tech. You can research more about it if you want.

Is it possible to use a 4g LTE phone on a regular old 4g network? I know that, out of the box, it is not. But, could one, for instance, swap out the firmware for the radio and get it an LTE phone working on a regular 4g network?
I am not sure if this been talk about, and cant find any thing about this on the forum. But this is multiple question.
If I get a 4g phone from another country and use it for ATT can i recieve 4g services?
Also can ATT detect if you are using their 4g network?
And can they instantly charge you with their 4g plans?
Also which phone will let me do that too?
I am fed up with Sprint so I bailed with the phone I got from them and it's unlocked. It appears after doing research that they had the last laugh. This phone can only get 3g using GSM with Cricket. They offer 4g LTE but are telling me I can't use it because of this phone. I attempted to turn on the LTE CDMA but it doens't show 3G or 4G although it appears to be connected and it drops connection constantly. Very unreliable.
So my question, is there a custom ROM that I can put on this phone that will allow me to use 4g LTE on Cricket/ATT network?
No, it wont work because of the Sprint hardware. A custom ROM can't solve this.
