Okay I'm having a hard time trying to understand this. So please help me figure it out. What I wanted to do was add an additional line for $10.00 and use Wi-Fi calling on it only. Will they still subtract it from my total minutes or is it free? If it helps I'm also on the Even More Family 1500 Unlimited Nights and Weekends plan.
EDIT: These calls are only going to be made INSIDE the US to another US cellphone/telephone number.
From the Website's FAQ:
How much does Wi-Fi Calling cost?
Wi-Fi Calling uses included minutes in your regular monthly plan and has no monthly cost.
So when you add that line and use the feature, it will use minutes the same way it would if you were using GSM. Also, the same settings for when you would call someone else over GSM, work over Wi-fi. You still get unlimited Nights and Weekends, and Mobile-to-Mobile calling on Wi-fi Calling.
I was on the phone w/ a rep and he said, "hey, you get this for free with the phone. you want me to add it on?" I said ya. So I got it for free. I don't understsand why you would have to pay $10?

They just recently changed it from minutes to free. The ten bucks is the add a line fee.
Nonsense!

So it's completely free now meaning I can call anyone in the US whenever I want over Wi-Fi and not use up any minutes?

Do you have a link to some official statement regarding this. I'm not saying you're wrong, it's just that all their documentation still states it does use minutes, plus I just always like to see evidence
wi-fi calling it's just "reception" for you phone....THIS IS IT !
It just antenna from you wifi.
So everything the same...you pay how much you supposed to pay...

Good to know, thanks.
It is a great service if you have low or no service inside your home/business and have wifi avaliable there, good to keep just in case!

If you're on a Even More or Even More Plus plan (Postpaid) with a Wi-Fi calling capable handset, you'll have the feature of unlimited Wi-Fi calling for FREE (no deduction of minutes).
Apparently, doesn't work for grandfathered plans.
Call T-Mobile (or use Live Chat), they must add it to your line for it to work. Ask for it to be added to your line (Free Unlimited Wi-Fi calling), since it's a new feature (5/13), they might not know about it (have not been trained for it). If they don't know what you're talking about, tell them to try harder
1-800-TMOBILE
1-800-866-2453
or
Live chat [t-mobile.com]
"Currently, placing calls over Wi-Fi deducts from a customer’s in-plan minutes. Effective 5/13, a new feature will launch that will allow customers with capable phones the ability to place calls over Wi-Fi without deducting from in-plan minutes! This is not only a great value, being FREE, but can help customers who experience coverage issues in areas that Wi-Fi is available."
You should be getting a text message about it according to T-Mobile, but if you're impatient...
-A Text Message (SMS) blast is planned to target customers with Wi-Fi Calling capable device to alert the customer of the availability of this free feature.
-The SMS will direct the customer to T-Mobile.com to add the feature. However, they may call Care instead. (I'm assuming they're referring to CS)
-This new feture is available to all Even more, Even More Plus, and 4G Do More rate plans for customers with Wi-Fi Calling capable devices.
Wi-Fi Calling works for:
Calls made from the US to US numbers
Calls made from the US to international numbers (subject to international rates) <-----Note
Calls made from outside the US to US numbers (not charged roaming) <---AKA (I can be in London connected through wi-fi and can call any US number for free without a deduction from my plan minutes)
Calls made from outside the US to international numbers (subject to international rates, but not charged roaming) <-----Note
as found via slickdeals.
just added this through online chat.
i dont really use wifi calling but doesnt hurt to have it right?
I also did this through online chat today. Went very smoothly and took maybe 10 minutes total. Thanks for the tip!
i just added it to both phone.... but some of the glacier roms dont have wifi native... where would i get the add on? the agent was checking my adress to see if i qualified for it? weird, i think if you are in a well known area of coverage they might try to avoid giving it to you? maybe not////////// what eva!!!!
did this earlier (before this was posted)...went without a hitch..great to have even though i dont even use 300min a month

They have to input the address manually so that if you call 911 that the address you gave is the same one that shows up in their systems. Nothing to do with qualifying locations.

I wish I did it through chat. I called 611 and spent about 15-20 minutes on the phone explaining the press release. Not the operators fault. It's T-Mobile not alerting their customer support people of changes. A true pain in the ass.
Let's see how long it takes to activate.
just spoke to them. im on a cheaper grandfathered family plan. i do not qualify. you have to be on a current, non-grandfathered plan to get the free wifi calling.

No, grandfathered plans just needs a different code.
I just finished with them online. They weren't going to add it, saying it didn't exist. Once I quoted their own press release they came back and said yes it is possible. Added it on my phone and my wife's! I'm wondering if it is a plan to reduce traffic on their networks?

can someone please list the devices that are capable of UMA?
I spoke with chat and they, at first, didn't have any idea what I was referring to. I provided the press release to the rep and they were able to add free wifi calling to both my lines. They said it takes about 2 hours for the feature to kick in. When using it on the phone, the app will still say that minutes will be deducted however they assured me that they won't regardless.
Now I do have one question. Does this feature show up on my account under "services"?
I just called and was told that feature didn't exist. I tried tell the girl that it was new and read the release. She said that was a feature a few years ago but now it using plan minutes. I guess I'll call back and get someone else.
Way to go T-mo. Roll out a great new money saving feature and don't train your staff on it.

They call it unlimited because they don't charge per MB after you hit 5GB like other carriers do. I've been caped and it makes the phone almost worthless, but its better than paying 200$ because I went over plan.

when i change to wifi it displays *wi-fi calling uses plan minutes* so it means that im gonna be charge rite?.. even if i change to wi-fi i will still use everything as a regular phone?...

Not if you call T-Mobile and have the Free Wifi Calling service added to your account. It will still say it charges you but rest assured, as long as you call or chat online with a customer service rep and have the service added, you won't be charged for wifi calls.

Actually it's not compatible with the older plans according to a couple CSRs that I chatted with online. They offered to change my plan to a newer one with which WiFi Calling would be free and unlimited. But of course they wanted a new 2 year agreement which I don't want to do.

That's not how it's supposed to work. I'm still on the plan I had with my G1 (3 phones ago) and all they had to do is add it as an extra service. They did it to both phones on my family plan even though the other phone doesn't have wifi calling. It shows up on my bill as "Free Wifi Calling".
Although it's a free service, you HAVE to have them add it to your account or you won't have free wifi calling, it'll count against your minutes.
By service, I don't mean signal, I mean actual phone service.
For example, you don't pay your bill for a month and t-mo suspends your service, can you still use Wifi-Calling even though the service isn't on?
Just curious.

You can use something like grooveip. It's a voip that uses GV to connect the calls. I heard it works well, I dont use it. I use csipsimple which is more complex to set up that's why I recommended groove. I am able to make/place calls over wifi. the sim in the phone is deactivated. I actually use my g2x as my house phone. it operates purely on wifi calling. But if you're asking if you can use the built in app that you use with TMO now? No, you cant

Please don't give out any false info.. It does use your minutes unless you are on the even more plus plan, which then you already have unlimited minutes so it doesn't matter. If you are on a minute plan still it WILL indeed use your minutes.
GrooveIP is actually pretty good and does its job. Tried it out and while it did give a bit of echo for the other party and a bit of delay, it is indeed free.

You should also stop giving out false info. You don't have to be on an unlimited plan, you just need the free wifi calling service added to your line by either calling to chatting with a T-Mobile rep. I have it on both my lines on my family account and it doesn't charge me for my wifi calls. It's great because we only have 750 minutes to use between us.

It does matter what plan you have. I've called and chatted several times and they said I had to upgrade to one of the newer plans to get the feature. I'm on FamilyTime 700 with free myFaves.
The minute I save up enough to buy my Sidekick 4G, I'm heading for this deal.
Right here.
A quick little excerpt
The new flexible and affordable plan will provide Walmart customers with access to America’s Largest 4G Network™. In a survey of Walmart customers, approximately 60 percent cited that having a high-speed data network was a key factor in the purchase of a wireless service plan. With this new offering, available for $30 per month and no annual contract, customers can enjoy unlimited Web, with the first 5 GB at up to 4G speeds; unlimited text; and 100 minutes of talk, with 10 cents per minute after the first 100 minutes.

Thought I might add that this will work with any 4G enabled T-Mo phone... just that you would have to pay the no contract price for the phone.
Nice find dude! That is actually worth cancelling my contract for, I barely use any minutes and pay about $60 a month now. if I cancel it's like $200 but I will be saving $30 a month so:
30x18= 540- 200= $340 of savings and no contract!!
Tnx dude for telling us. I am definately going to switch to that plan!!!!

so let me get thiz straight if u want that deal you have to go to walmart only to get it?
See, that's I'm not entirely sure about. It does say Exclusively at Walmart and it;s online store, as well as T-Mo's website, but how will you get the SIM card? Will it be shipped out to you?
I guess well just have to wait and see on the 16th. I'm going to go to a walmart store and check online nd see if I get it.

That is exactly me! I never owned a 4G/3G phone before (I have the LX before they canned data, now it' sucks ) but I know I'm a HEAVY texter and I love to use data.
I asked my friend, who is on Sprint with the Evo if he uses 5GB/m, and he said he averages 3~4GB, so I know 5GB will probably be more than enough for me (Esp since there's wifi for data hogging things like video streaming)
And when I'm at home, I can just use the home phone, thus saving me on the 100 minutes when people like your girlfriend wanna "Hear your voice" -__-
wow great find! That's not a bad deal for people who don't talk as much as they text!
So how do I go about getting this now?

He had told me to just order it off the Tmobile website then he said that he was told that I would need to buy it from walmart. which is really inconvenient for me since I had to travel from my small town to a town with a Tmobile store /:

I haven't heard anything about that, I don't think they have caught on to it yet (they are just catching up to tethering and that's been around since 2008 on the G1) I know google voice works good, the one thing they said is you might not get as good of reception on prepaid because they borrow towers but I live in the city and get good 4g where I live/work, I think he might've been BSing me to get me to not cancel my contract though

Yeah but I still need to make real calls. I cant give people my skype number since it wouldnt be professional.
I would say your best bet would be google voice. I haven't used it since I've gotten my HTC One, but in my iPod Touch I was using an app called Talkatone. It allowed me to not only place calls over Wi-Fi but also recieve calls too. No carrier plan needed.

You dont understand what I'm saying.
Straight Talk is good
You can get Straight Talk sim card online, works on AT&t's lines I believe. 1000 minutes and 1000 texts, I think it's 5 cents a minute after that limit and 5 cents per mb of data. Oh and it's $30.00 USD for a month. Just don't use any data. I think you can transfer your number, too. It's definitely the cheapest, besides t-mobile's own $30.00 USD a month for 100 minutes, unlimited text and unlimited 2G data with 5GB of 4G data. Very impressive but not many phone calls.
Att much better then tmo and $30 a month with unlimited voice and text with no net. Can use most any Att phone too.
I'm using for my first month the $45 pre pay and LG G3. Next month I will go to the $30 monthly with no net. $45 and up is unlimited everything.
