HTC Trophy 7 Won't Install Apps / Games - Windows Phone 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I just bought my HTC Trophy 7 and am trying to download apps from the marketplace, however I can't seem to download without using a wifi connection from a home server, or an actual wifi box...
Why can't I just download using my 3g internet? Any help?
Edit: It only seems to not allow me to download xbox live games like Fable: Coin Golf. I was trying to download the trial... I have an xbox live gold account.

Games over a certain size limit require a wifi connection I believe.

Any way to disable that?

There's no way to disable it.

A warning pop-up would of been nice, ala Android.
Then again Microsoft have by their own admission gone the safe route on everything so far, and I guess you can't really blame them for that.
People suing them for data charge overages might not be good PR for a new phone os.

There is still no excuse for the current OS's lack of notification telling you to use WiFi to d/l the app or the marketplace should tell you. Otherwise you get ticked off users *****ing about it. Its all about making things easier and creating a positive light instead of the typical anti-ms spin that is so quickly propagated.

[Q] [REQ] Internet Passthrough

The G2 and the Sensation have an internet passthrough option that allows you to use your PCs internet connection on your phone.
Is there a way to get that feature to work on the G2X? I would prefer it be native, like the Sensation, or is there an app that can do that?

Like... reverse tethering? Have a 4G data stick for your laptop and no data plan on your phone? Or just not have WiFi? Only situations I can think of. Very odd and probably rare situation, so I hope someone can help you out.
Yeah. It allows you to use your PC's internet connection on your phone - reverse tethering

The only thing I can think of is ... nope, I can't.
Was gonna say proxy, but you can do that without creating extra overhead. Perhaps some sort of spoofing.

If you go to internet sharing in windows xp, vista or 7 you can create a pico-net whereby your computer's internal network card broadcast a network, it must be a ad-hoc network. The range will be about 50 ft and your phone can pick up on the wifi. I used to do this when I had cricket and needed to hook up devices that didnt have a USB drive.
Cheers!
Could somebody enlighten me as to why you wouldn't just use wifi? especially as you can get a wireless router cheap
To prevent the issue of throttling, I could use the internet on my work PC on my phone. No access to Wi-Fi it works wonderfully on the sensation. Any hopes of this being ported?

I can see this being useful in places where only a direct Ethernet connection to a PC is available... travel, motels/hotels w/o wiring, etc... Every method to limit mobile data usage nowadays is much appreciated by me at least.

actually ive gotten the "reverse tethering" to work..but it only works on certain apps and the browser for some reason. im running a stock rooted G2 btw. all i did was leave the usb debugging on and i turned on mock locations..i dont know if that had anything to do with it, but its kind of working. hope this helps or if anyone has a better solution id like to know

[APP] TexTab 1.10 on Galaxy Tab 7... how does it work on YOUR Tab 7?

TexTab is an app that lets you send and receive SMS from your phone, via your tablet. Your message history still collects on your phone for both sender and receiver, but you can control it with your tablet. This is especially good for those of us with smaller phones (like my Aria), and for those of us who do NOT use their Tablet as a phone... or do not have native SMS allowed in their stock Tab (AT&T for example, and of course wifi-only models). TexTab doesn't have access to your phone's contact list, or it's SMS history, but again, the history is normal in the phone, and you can always Bluetooth over your favorite contacts.
I joined in the developer discussion on this app because to begin with, it had some issues, but the idea is a good one. At one point I actually paid the 2 bux but I am concerned that the problems aren't going away any time soon. Here is the thread where I introduce my issues in detail:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1133277&page=31
Has anyone used this yet? Impressions? Issues? He designed this with Honeycomb tablets in mind (specifically the Tab 10.1). The more of us 7-inch owners who give him feedback, the more likelihood he can solve the issues. I really don't think this was ready to move out of beta and into a paid app (which I explained to him earlier in that thread) but IF he can get it less glitchy, it would be worth the 2 dollars for sure. When the app works, it's super convenient to include my phone's SMS onto my Tab along with my other emails and IM apps... our virtual keyboards being far more practical to type on.
It is pretty cool to see and app that does this as I hate having to switch devices to respond to texts... it is a shame it is having these problems like you said I would lore then willing spend $2 on an app that could do this

Is the Samsung apps one the light one? Works OK, not as good Bluetooth range as would really be needed to make it an everyday Walkabout though. Got one room over and lost bt Conection and was a pain reconnecting without going and putting the connection up manually so it was a short lived novelty ...

Must be.. as its not device, I've got it from Samsung apps on both phone and tab. Grab market enabler or similar wipe the Samsung apps cache and stored data select Telstra au and see if its there then. My tab is now wifi only and so i had to spoof a sim to get the apk to open and chose Telstra Australia.

Already installed games

The phone comes with pre-installed games, but as far ad I have heard, they require extra downloads to be able to play these? Does that extra content get downloaded to the sdcard?
If so, could anybody upload the extra download files and link them up here as I don't have wifi and wont be able to download them. Its not really copyright, since its a free download anyway.
Please correct me if I am wrong though
Thanks
The SD card comes with all the data preinstalled on them. And yes it is wares, just because we get these games free, uploading the data on the internet allows people with other devices access to the data.

Your mum thinks a router gives you cancer? Seriously? Does a router not use radio waves? You would have to live in a led box to escape radio waves this day and age
If you have a wired connection on your PC, you could try reverse tethering your device, this will allow you to share your PC's wired connection with your device via usb.

Im just trying to save bandwidth & time and share with myself. Having to download the updates for both phones over and over sucks. Titanium backup didnt work to backup & restore one phones updates to the other phone.

rooting a friends phone:
Try Open Garden or WiFi Tethering (root) apps from market.
You've conflated a couple questions here.
"Which ROMs have a built-in feature for WiFi tethering?"
Most, if not all, do.
"Given that T-Mobile generally prohibits tethering, is there a way that I can tether in a way that I am not blocked by T-Mobile?"
Yes, there are several ways that you can make the traffic appear as though it originated on your phone. Most, if not all, of these are applications, use of things like VPN or ssh tunneling, or configuration of your tethered clients. There are several approaches. Search is your friend on finding one that works for you and that you are comfortable with.

Yes that works or just go to settings>wireless and networks>tethering. No need for an app if its built in but if you want one there's plenty to choose from
Wifi tethering used to work no problem on my phone but T-Mobile very recently seems to have changed something where they can detect it - on ICS ROM's - and block it in the browser on your computer. It takes a few link clicks to get the blocked page.
For this - I have to switch to a google related user agent to not have wifi tethering blocked.

that's funny, i'm using aokp (latest team acid build), and i was just using wifi tethering with no problems at all. not to mention that i'm not even supposed to have it since i have the new plan "truly unlimited 4g." the problem i do have though is usb tethering. i gave my team members a log to see if its fixable the other day, but haven't heard anything yet. its no big deal to me unless i wanna use it to tether my pc when our dsl daily cap is reached (which is everyday, but "i" don't use the pc everyday). basically just gave em the log to try and help those who do want/need it.

It was new for me. And only through the browser. Still connects no problem but after several clicks it will pop up a T-Mobile page saying I don't have the tethering package. I am on Raver's ICS Audiophile.
I was tethering just fine on vacation last week, until I got a text message from T-mobile saying they were blocking it, and sure enough it quit working.
I gotta look into the user agent spoofing I guess... at least before my next trip.
(All three of the hotels I was in were changing $5-10 for internet!)
T-Mobile is on a roll!
Didn't actually think they were gonna give something for nothing did ya.
They know that with strategic planning...(lower the plan price and give you more data)....if they give a little....you'll want more,so now they can ask for more, and sleep soundly when they go to bed at night.
So mine got blocked too, took me a couple of hours last night but found a way around it using Bluetooth Open Garden and VPN combination. Back to free tethering....victory over TMobile!....for now at least.

So using just the VPN client still blocked you??
Yeah, but it's possible that was just because I was trying multiple solutions. I'll look at it again tonight and see if I can substitute the Bluetooth with WiFi and keep it working. I think it might be in my proxy settings....it was late and I was happy to just get access.

Or you can change the user agent for your browser and just use wifi tethering as you normally would. It is a pretty simple fix.

I thought with Google Chrome you have to have the Developers Tools open for that to persist. Is there a simple way to make it stick without having to have the developer tools window open? Thanks.
Edit: Ok, so tried the APN switch on Google chrome last night and it did work, while the developers tools window is open. Only issue was that some of the sites that my wife uses that have display issues on mobile web now have the same issue on the PC...I'm not talking about page layout, but specific links and options not displaying....the reason she still needs to use the PC in the first place. I can definitely recommend the APN fix to people being blocked by Tmobile as a quick simple fix as previously stated in this thread. It took a little longer to set up, but I'm sticking with the VPN for full functionality.
Regarding the wifi use with VPN; I haven't been able to get it to work yet, so sticking with the Bluetooth for now.

Nexus 5 ratted me out to T-Mobile for tethering my nexus 7.

I'm using easy tether app with VPN and Bluetooth connection. Kind of slow, makes it seem like working at work is a better idea. Help, any better way to fix that's less clunky

I use IbVPN but with another phone. So far it works. I assume any VPN solution would work.
Boy, that is probably the most misleading topic ever.
Anyway, the Nexus 5 has nothing to do with being caught tethering as your carrier can tell you're doing it by the user agent of the browser (the most typical method of detecting tethering) and other ways as well.
As for a workaround, there are several available but there's no guarantee on any of them that you won't get busted even so.
It's a chance you take - the carrier tells you it's against the service agreement and you choose to do it anyway; if you get popped and lose your service, the blame lies solely with you alone.
The user agent in this case is android using dolphin browser. Should appear Amy different than my phone.
I'm not whining, BTW, I'm aware of risk and consequence and adult about it. I'm also cheap, so after having used several nexus phones in the past the exact same way and never getting popped sure makes it look like the 5 is the problem doing the reporting about tether use.

This is bad news. I have always been able to tether any tablet through my Nexus device on Tmobile and browse with the stock browser and Netflix app. I have a feeling, Google is playing dirty and sending T-mobile/provider some kind of notice that tethering is now 'on'. I wish they'd develop an app like they did for Google Glass that proxying packets for ANY tethered device. Stick it to the carrier. Especially, Verizon.
