[Q] XOOM Au Flashed now no 3G (HSDPA) - Xoom Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi Guys!
I am pretty sure no one else has posted this (I have searched for days)
I just got my XOOM in Australia, (it only came out a couple of days ago) and being the idiot i am, i tried rooting, not thinking that the images for the US models wouldnt work (our model is MZ601, not MZ600), which they didnt. I tried for hours to unbrick it, finally i got it working using the clockwork recovery method with HC 3.1.
works perfectly rooted and all, bar one thing, 3G!
another thing i failed to factor in is that australia uses HSDPA which isnt supported with the us firmware... so if i try to activate, i get "Searching for signal" endlessly.
I'm thinking i'll probably have to wait till EU or AU sbf or images are made available, but if you guys can think of anything to help me out, that would be amazing! thanks so much!

Yes, they have, there's been lots of threads about people doing this to the UK Xooms (also MZ601s) and losing 3G.
Either flash a set of DE ripped images and a language pack, found in a thread here somewhere, or see if one of the hacked-together 3.1 installs will work.

Hi again,
I've tried what a can do from that link you posted, the problem is, that is for rooting when you still have the stock image installed. if i push the frankenrom i just get "the process com.android.phone has stopped unexpectedly" every second or so...
am i missing something? sorry to be a pain

Refer to my post earlier, where I mention "Either flash a set of DE ripped images and a language pack..." and then do that, maybe?

Okay, now i have the german images and a eng lang pack installed, but 3g still isnt working, i can pick up the networks, but i cant connect, i think i had a sim pin on my sim and didnt disable it before, could this be why? if so, how can i disable it?
thanks
(sorry for double post)
Edit: Would putting the sim in an australian phone and disabling the pin then putting it back in my xoom work?
you're a lifesaver btw! thanks so much for helping me out

okay scratch the pin thing, it still doesnt work, i can see the aussie networks (i'm on telstra), when i try to join it, it says cannot connect, and if i set auto, it doesnt try.

Fixed!
guys here helped me to fix it up!

[HOW TO] Debranding /Installing different/recovering bricked firmware on your Defy

Disclaimer: I will not be held responsible for any damage to your phone, your PC or indeed your life from following this guide. The steps in this guide worked for me. If you have problems uninstall everything and start from Step 4 again. Doing this kind of thing could affect your warranty and all that so have a long hard think about it before you go ahead
US Owners - If you flash the UK firmware, you will lose 3g and wifi calling app etc... There are fixes for this problem that can be found on other Forums. A guide on how to restore this which has worked for others is HERE
##WARNING: be careful when flashing 2.51 firmware, firstly its patched so root isn't achievable by the usual methods, and isn't easy to downgrade back to other firmware - I suggest you search and read the various topics on it. My advice is to use 2.21 UK or 2.34 Deblur firmware##
This guide will show you how to debrand your Motorola Defy (Eg bought on T-Mobile UK and want generic UK firmware), or indeed restore the phone if you brick (Eg removing important apps that you shouldn’t have touched!!)
Props go to jutley (Modaco)for his debranding guide for the flipout, and dkspook (Modaco) for his information in other threads, and anyone else who thinks they may have contributed, oh yeah and my Mum.
##Disconnect phone from PC##
STEP 1 Download usb drivers here below
Motorola Drivers Here
STEP 2 Download the debranded Firmware here (To debrand to generic UK I used the one marked UK - choose the one for your country)
Choose Firmware Here
STEP 3 Download RSDLite - I used v4.9, I found earlier versions would not work. Get it here.
RSDLite 4.9 Here
STEP 4 Install the USB Drivers and the RSDLite program and reboot PC
STEP 5 Extract the firmware file you downloaded a while ago. Then copy the .sbf firmware file to c:\Program files\Motorola\RSDLite folder (installation directory for RDSLite). this should come out as JRDNEM_U3_2.21.0_SIGNED_UCAJRDNEMARAB1B80AA028.0R_USAJORDANRTGB_P026_A007_HWp3_S
rvice1FF.sbf for the UK one.
STEP 6 Start the RSDLite program now where it says filename press the select button and find the .sbf firmware file in c:\Program files\Motorola\RSDLite (it should default to this folder) and select the (sbf) file some details will appear on the right hand side.
STEP 7 We now need to boot the phone into the bootloader (as above make sure the phone is disconnected from USB – not sure if matters tho!). Hold the volume up and then power the phone on, after about 5 seconds release the buttons and the bootloader should display - it will show the version and a battery check. Now plug in the USB cable and it should install the drivers . Once the driver installation has finished you should see the phone appear at the bottom of the RSDLite program window under `port 1` - Once this is there you are ready to flash the firmware. NB: I had issues getting it to show a number of times. Uninstalling RSDLite/Drivers, rebooting PC, and then reinstalling these resolved this issue.
STEP 8 Press the start button on the RSDLite and just relax while your device gets flashed, debranded etc. you will see a progress status on the right hand side wait till it reaches 100% but please do not disconect it will reboot the phone automaticly and restart the phone. And just wait untill android comes up and fully running untill you disconnect it should read (PLEASE START PHONE MANUALY) on RSDLite when this shows it is safe to unplug.
Hopefully now you will have a debranded/unbricked phone.
One thing I noticed that was cool is that the data partition stayed intact for me when I debranded, meaning all my settings and installed app (providing you hadn’t moved stuff to /system) were still there after the process – cool! The only thing you will have to do is re-root the device.
Hope you find this useful and I look forward to a great community for the Defy!
Nice job! This worked perfectly. We now just need the tmo us FW. I'm kind of iffy about messing with my phone much more until I have a failsafe.

Whats the benefit of the T-Mobile US Firmware - some kind of extra functionality? If we could get it, we could flash by this method and flash back if we didn't like it anyways I suppose.
In theory this method is a failsafe tho because if you mess any thing up you can get back to a different firmware. I must say I personally would like to get my hands on the original T-Mobile UK .sbf, just in case I wanted to put it back to its original state for returns/repair, so if anyone has found it (I haven't yet) please let me know.
If a tmo us user flashes with the uk FW they lose 3g.
A tmo us or just generic us fw would give us the clean sweep option while keeping our 3g.
Can I use the Uk Firm for a Vodafone Spain Defy??

Now then DJD!
Na we need the .sbf file for it but it no biggy at the moment. Get it rooted mate - easiest way is to download z4root from the market - works a treat and roots in like 10 secs lol.
Stopped going on htcdevscene for a number of reasons, firstly i could never get on the site and secondly i felt the way it was run was very inconsistent.
Just sold my Hero - they are going for between 80-120 on ebay the top end is for brand new boxed. I have just sold mine to a mobile recycle place for £103. This phone is different gravy to the hero for sure.
Anyway mate look forward to seeing you around again
Thanks for this guide Higgsy, very easy to follow even for a noob like me.
I have now said goodbye to Vodafone's crap a mere 20 minutes after opening the box with my shiny new DEFY in that was delivered today.

No probs - Gone be the dirty network custom apps and splash screens!!
Done too. Thank you.
EDIT: Just reflashed and then calibrated the compass. Seems to be working now. Sorry for the unnecessary message.
Ok, having taken the phone out since I got rid of the Vodafone stuff, I've discovered that the GPS is no longer working. I've got GPS Test on it and it only sees one satellite where before it saw a load. I'm going to reload the firmware now, but does anyone have any ideas?
Higgsy what are the benefits of rooting and flashing the generic unbranded software apart from getting rid of the t-mobile rubbish?

Hmm strange My GPS is fine, locks on in like 5 secs, maybe try rebooting with GPS switched on, if you haven't already done so.
DJD,
No real benefits apart from getting rid of any tmobile crap, there isn't much bloatware in the tmobile uk build anyways. I just like generic lol. And as for rooting - please tell me that question is joke surely as a seasoned veteran you know what that is geezer
I know rooting opens up a world of goodies but there arent any goodies for this phone yet in the way of ROMS, at least thats what i can gather so far lol. Can it be over clocked and JITenabled yet? after rooting it of course, sorry im being lazy n not google-ing lol.
Plus for my totally blonde moment if i flash the generic uk firmware would it still mean i could get the over the air 2.2 update when it is released by motorola before t-mobile release their bloatware version?

JIT can be enabled - its not stable imo - I tried it before, gonna have a better look at it.
i would expect you will be able to get the generic 2.2 update, to be fair, I think we will be flashing roms by that time anyways
Anyway stop being a ***** and get it rooted
OI lol,
Just downloaded z4root will put it on my memory card n get root tomorrow me thinks.
p.s z4root is no longer on the market, found the z4root.apk in a thread on here tho luckily lol.
Ok, now I do have a problem. I've flashed the non-branded rom and very happy with it, but my in-call speaker has failed this morning. This seems to be a common problem with the Defy and I suspect it needs replacing or repairing, but I need to put back the branded rom to have the phone in warranty, don't I? How do I even begin to go about that?

[Q] Rooting SGS2 GT-i9210

I just got a brand new SGS2 GT-i9210 from sweden. After unsimlocking it, it perfectly works on our experimental 4G (2.6Ghz) network in France.
I tried to root it, but the zergrush doomlord rootkit v4 does not work properly, it ends with the "Hellions with BLUE flames" error.
I used this rootkit with different SGS2 4G/LTE smartphone and never had problem, it always worked.
I was just wondering if someone could help me to root this GT-i9210...
Thanks in advance for your replies
I'd love to get into this as soon as I've got rid of the Tele2 simlock on my i9210. Any tips on reliable unlock code providers for this phone?
As this post comes up high on the google results for rooting the GT-i9210, here's the link to the ACTUAL page on how to root it.
Edit: Probably better to link to the OCAU thread http://forums.overclockers.com.au/showthread.php?p=14233218#post14233218

I don't dare to belive you.
The root method you refer to in your link is for models sold on the US market, in Europe this model is branded GT-I9210 (EU) and is similar, but not identical to the models in US or Canada.
I have followed a Swedish thread where people has used this method, but many of them has bricked their phones....
The whole process works fine through all steps until rebooting.
The back key and the menu key stops working.
I wish somebody could fix a reliable root method for GT-I9210.
I'm the guy who wrote that post on Whirlpool. I have a pair of GT-I9210Ts, both of which are now rooted using CWM and superuser.zip.
Note that this doesn't actually CHANGE anything on the phone. So it's not going to brick it. All it does is install CWM, and then uses CWM to install superuser.zip. I can't possibly see how it's possible to brick the phone doing this.

Yep, I did this today. The phone's back and menu buttons aren't working. I tried installing softkeys from the Market but still no go. Is there a solution to this problem?
That's.. very very strange. Someone else reported it, but I have no idea why this happened. You're not touching ANYTHING to do with the buttons. All you're doing is updating the recovery.img and then installing a package. I've rooted three phones now, and haven't had that problem.
Can you read http://forums.overclockers.com.au/showthread.php?p=14233218#post14233218 and tell me if you did anything different?

The method you have posted is one I have already tried, 2hrs after getting my phone from Telstra. Back button and Menu buttons blank out and no longer work.
No one should use this method until it is specifically tried and tested for the phone.
EDIT: Just to assist you a bit further with the method.
- A full factory reset was completed, not working.
- Telstra firmware downloaded, installed, factory reset, not working.
- Dialled *#*#2663#*#* - Selected Touch Key F/W to upgrade, not working.
----- Phone F/W was marked as 0x4, Part F/W was 0x0.
I believe this was the issue, the fact that there was a number mismatch.
Those with the GT-I9210 visit this link for Original EU Rom.
www"dot"sammobile"dot"com
As I mentioned on OCAU, I didn't have much of a problem.
"xrobau" Did you have any moment when the buttons did not work?

This generic firmware will work in Portuguese operators? Any European tested it?
Thanks

In my case the keys stopped working after flashing first time a kernel with cwm recovery. The phone also didn't boot anymore. The kernel itself was backuped with the very same cwm.
Before I flashed the kernels with odin and also with "dd" command. No problems with the keys.
Based on these things I got the feeling that there could be something wrong with cwm.
I could not fix it so far.
I'm not sure whether my post would be valid any longer on a thread more than a year old.
Anyway, if someone needs a pre-rooted version of the latest stock Jelly Bean 4.1.2 XXUAMF1 COV (GT-I9210), they can do so from this thread, post #4:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=34712551
Flashed it via Odin & using it without any issues on my S II LTE GT-I9210T.

and then, look like it failed..
this morning, I managed to get back to the recovery boot screen and found that if I press the house icon it show up a menu.. but this menu giving me access to reboot, wipe cache, data or install update.zip (which was supposed to fix my problem) but this menu is blued out and unaccessible..
dunno if it helped..
right now, I am trying to get acces to my phone doing the no battery boot thing but my pc doesnt seem to recognize my phone + I am at work hehe so I am pretty much limited in acces due tu the it protection and firewall stuff
I am gonna try to redo that stuff tonight at home but meanwhile, if any of what I described may give you a clue on how to help me, I really appreciate the effort!

I say you needed to use the g2x android development forums on this site to find a suitable jb rom, not this other site. The one click method isn't very stable, so nvflash is most definitely what you need to try to get working. There are very thorough tutorials on how to get that to work. Do you know which clockwork recovery version you have installed? Should be 5.0.2.0. Once you get home, I suggest you read read read. Do as much research you can to make sure you can follow nvflash instructions to the letter. I know I personally spent about a week researching to make sure I had a solid understanding of the procedure.
I recommend getting nvflash going to get clockwork properly installed, then download a rom from xda, nowhere else. I would even say use a gb rom before trying a jb ...the jb roms are hackfest versions, so they have (from my experience) much poorer battery life, and lack hardware acceleration. Netflix and many 3d games won't work. You can use adampk or mazout's roms but they don't have working radio, i.e. no phone/SMS functionality.

Boot into recovery, there should be an option to format or wipe system. Do that then flash the ROM. It won't boot if you flash it over stock.
Also, use the paranoid android rom found in the development section, same cyanogenmod base but works better.

[Q] general (?) problem with device

Hello Guys!
This weekend i had the Galaxy S4 GT-I9505 of a friend cause he wanted me to try to simunlock his device.
In order to do that i had to flash a other modem version and since I had i there aldready, i flashed some custom roms to satisfy myself (I myself have a company (I)Phone and since then i hadn't used an android phone).
And here's the problem... the wifi didn't work (when i tried to activate it, it just said: activating wifi, please wait...). when I wanted to play a song it said: EQ could not be found. please close other music players(non installed) or restart phone (didn´t help). And when I wanted to switch from photos to videos in the camera app, it just threw out an error message (can't remember what it said). Maybe there were more errors but this are the ones I found in the short testing time.
Yesterday evening I somehow managed to fix it (still don't know how or why). But now I am curious about what happened.
Factory resets and stock rom didn't help. I restored the phone to stock as much as possible, but I think that this wasn't the solution.
Anybody here encountered the same problem(s) and can tell me what the reason was? I searched the forums and google (maybe wrong?) and couldn't find the reason.
I hope someone can tell me =)
thanks
Edit: Sorry, didn't read all stickies =/ (about no questions in general)
Hmmmmmmm Download orginal stock from sammobile an flash it but dont start the phone. Go to recovery and make a superwipe. try.

The problem might be related to modem.
It is reponsible for the wifi and you mobile network.
And when u flashed some else it breaked that function. ..
And after flashing the Stock one Your might have fixed the problem.
This is how I interpreted the problem.
Might be the Reason. ..

Help! EMEI problems

ive been searching around and cant get this thing to connect to a network. i was on mm and i wanted to go back to kk so i tried just doing a full wipe and flashed the fastboot 44s rom (i had a bunch of useless crap saved on my phone and i wanted to get rid of it anyways).
the phone booted up but it says audiofx error and then just reboots. ive tried the msm coloros download tool but its not recognizing my phone in fastboot and neither is the cm11s version of it. i can flash fastboot cm11s roms but i can not get this thing to stay on for more than 3secs.
i have an efs backup from a year ago when this happened but it says the files are corrupted but they shouldnt be. they were iso and i changed their file types to bin (not sure if that makes any sense at all)
could someone please help. thanks in advance
