request: stock android clock apk - T-Mobile Sidekick 4G

So I'm officially done with the Sidekick's poorly designed clock replacement. This wouldn't be so bad, if Samsung hadn't been so arrogant as to remove the stock android clock, which I loved. does anyone have or knwo where I can get the .apk? I tried the market b/c I know google puts some of their apps on there for this reason, but it doesn't seem to be there.
While I'm at it, if anyone has the stock calendar too, that'd be great.

Just pulled these two from my Nexus S (from /system/app)
DeskClock.apk
Calendar.apk
You might need to push these with adb or use root explorer or something...

Thanks a mil for those, although I tried to open them with Adao file manager just now and got a message saying "there is a problem parsing the package." it worked earlier today when I installed Car Home using the same app, is there something else I can try? I used File Expert and had the same problem. I might get Root Explorer if I need to, but I just don't want to buy it to find it won't work for this.

Chances are, until someone actually ports the app, the stock clock from a different phone won't work. It would have to be a phone that looks identical to the package. Therefore, you would need a stock phone running 2.2.1, probably from one of the Samsung line. Usually the Epic 4g has been pretty close, that or the Vibrant. If you can get someone with one of those two phones on 2.2.1 stock to dump it for you, you might be able to get it to work.

[Q] Rooted Droid X questions. 5 issues. Please Help!

Okay, so my Droid X has been rooted for about a month now and I've been going happy-go-lucky with deleting bloatware off of my device. Thusfar I believe I've uninstalled the following: Amazon MP3 player, City ID, Kindle, News, News and Weather, Weather, Terminal Emulator, My Verizon Mobile, Skype, VZ Navigator, and Visual Voicemail. My first two issues relate to this.
#1- I went to Titanium Backup the other day I noticed as I was scrolling up and down the list that contactsunconnected.apk was frozen. I only have the free version of Titanium Backup so I don't even have the capability to freeze apps, so this baffled me. Anyway, when I noticed it I unfroze it and went along my merry way. When I restarted my phone afterward I noticed it was frozen again. I found out that it re-freezes it every time that I restart the phone. So...what the heck does that file even do? And is it okay to leave it frozen? Or should I unfreeze it ever time?
#2- AFTER I'd uninstalled all these apps I happened to be browsing some forums and I was reading that it wasn't a good idea to uninstall these apps, but rather..."freeze" or "rename" the apps so they wouldn't run, but they would still be accessible later on. I read the reason for them needing to be accessible is that if you wanna receive an update (like Gingerbread) in the future you still have to have ALL the bloatware that came stock with the phone. How difficult is it to get this bloatware back? Does anyone have a link to these files?
#3- This is slightly unrelated to the other two issues, but how do you guys feel about the stock Droid X file manager vs Astro File manager? I refuse to be redundant and have two apps that are so similar, but I've noticed that each one has some different strengths that the other doesn't. I really wanna get rid of one, but I'm not sure which one yet. Any suggestions?
#4- The only custom ROM I've tried on my phone was Fission and I was very unhappy. I mean, the ROM looked cool and ran smoothly, but not all my apps carried over. I want a ROM that carries over 100% of my apps. Any suggestions?
#5- How do I go about overclocking my device? And what is the max that I can SAFELY overclock my device at?
Anyway, if you guys can help me with any of these 5 issues that would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

3. I used to use astro, but once I got my droid 2 and titanium backup, there didn't seem much of a point to having astro any more.
4. What are 'your apps'? What do you mean by 'carries over'? If they came with the x, then they might rely on blur. If you downloaded them from the market, then they should work fine in fission. Either way, no custom rom will have everything you want, and moto roms will have more than you want.
5. There's a thread all about this in the droid x forums.

#1 and #2- Do you have any info about these issues?
#3- I see your point. With the built in file manager and Titanium I suppose Astro is useless.
#4- I understand that some of the motorola stuff won't carry over, but some things that I installed from the market didn't carry over. Clockwork Mod was one of those and I had to redownload it just to be able to flash back to stock. Also, some of the other stock apps like Gmail, Email, and Messaging that I DO like didn't carry over. It was frustrating.
#5- Can you give me a link to this?

Not sure about number one at all, I never use that function in titanium.
Likewise, for number two, I'm always running a custom rom, so I never have to worry about that.

Entourage pocket edge development

I was wondering if I could get some help developing some things for the pocket edge... Possibly a custom rom, gapps and what not. Any help would be appreciated.
samsung vibrant malice with bullet
Pocket edge ermine
I just ordered 1 of these for $155 shipped. Of course my 1st stop was xda, & am shocked that there is no activity for this [potentially] great device!
Here's hoping that some of the devs will pick up 1 at these new lower prices & start working their magic

A woot sale is not "new lower prices". That said, I'm in for one, and also looking for the hacking I hope is already going on this!
Checking in too, I got mine yesterday and am very excited about the device.
What I was able to establish quickly is that most 2.2 apps will work out of the box on the Pocket Edge (I made apk backups of my apps on my N1, copied them onto the SD card of the Pocket Edge and voila, I had most of my favorite apps
I would be specifically interested in knowing how to access the e-ink screen programatically. Seems that the current apps focus mostly on the LCD screen.
Did you try sideloading the market? What about amazon market? You didn't order yours off woot and have it arrive so fast, did you?
Sorry, I'm just really curious to see how this thing works out.
Anyone who has one already willing to do a system dump? Is it even possible?
I also Wooted and am waiting on my new toy to arrive.
I just got my PE through a dutch version of woot, I upgraded it to 2.2.1 right away, but there's still plenty to tweak. I have no experience whatsoever with those things, but I'm very willing to learn and help you out, just tell me what to do.

I am not quite sure what to do. I believe it's an adb pull. I meant to do a little more research but have been really busy with work.
Anyone have more knowledge about this?
They have an open development forum on the entourage website that may have useful information for someone wanting to hack this device (I got one on woot too.)
I can't link outside the site since this is my first post, but it's the Open Edge Community Forum at the very bottom of the forum page.
To save a google or two, it's http://www.entourageedge.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?19-Open-eDGe-Community
I got mine (from Woot!) yesterday. I applied the update. I have signed up for the betas, but not installed the beta OS yet.
I plugged in a USB keyboard and it worked well. I did the same with a mouse, though the X and Y axes seem swapped; maybe it only works with a particular screen orientation. I have a Bluetooth keyboard that I will try next.
The included apps aren't great, but they could be worse. I copied some .apk files from my rooted HTC Aria just to see what would install.
Apps that installed and worked:
1) Titanium Backup (the free one). Doesn't do much since I don't have root.
2) Google Maps - everything but the location-based services seems to work.
3) RealCalc - looks freaky on the huge screen
4) Google Listen - though it's broken because it needs a GMail link
5) SystemPanelLite
Apps that would not install:
1) GMail
2) Winamp (I don't like the eDGe's music player)
Looking forward to getting Market and Gmail working one day!
My WPE (Woot Pocket Edge) came today and is slowly charging up. I see two root methods out there, one on AndroidPolice using ADB and one on mobileread using z4root. Anybody have a favorite or comments?
-- Ed
I'm not very good with adb so I think I'll check z4root. Do you have a link?
I got mine today and have been playing for a couple hours. Updated to Ermine. Installed a few apps from the Amazon app store and also copied over a few from my phone.
Everything worked except for Gmail and Google Reader.

HOw? I've owned one of these for almost a year now???
I've played a bit with rooting it already with Ermine and installed the CM6.1 version of Gapps HDPI manually, rebooted. I can't seem to get it to let me add an account. I get the horrible "Can't establish a reliable data connection" error and am stuck at that point
I've read lots of posts about people having trouble adding a google account via wifi and am wondering if something needs to be changed to make it work. I had tried a mock location w/ "My Fake Location" with no luck so far.
Just rooted mine. It was super easy. I downloaded the z4root app from the Amazon App Store and clicked Permanent Root. Et voila!
Now to install AdFree Android and Ti Backup. They make Android life so much easier.

Instructions for Installing G-mail/Calendar
I also got the sucker from Woot. I'm pretty happy with it at the moment. Definitely worth $150!
I'm currently in the process of trying to get gapps to work. At the moment, I have a functional copy of gmail and the calendar, but I'm still having trouble with the market. I'm posting this in the hope that I can help push forward the process and someone more knowledgeable will figure out how to get the market to work.
Anyway, here's the process.
(1) Root your device. You just need to download z4root from the Amazon marketplace and select the "permanent root" option.
(2) Download the Google *.apk files. While you can get these from several places, I took them from the CyanogenMod wiki. Unfortunately, I'm a new user and can't post links. Therefore, you need to (A) Google CyanogenMod Wiki, (B) click on "Latest Version," (C) scroll down to the bottom of the page, (D) download the HDPI files under the CyanogenMod 6 section.
(3) Transfer the *.apk files to your Pocket Edge via USB.
(4) Install the *.apk files with the preloaded ES File Explorer. This part is a little tricky, primarily because the different gapps are intimately related and draw on similar resources. Therefore, you need to install quite a few of them to get gmail/calendar to work. From what I can tell, these are the ones that are absolutely necessary:
Gmail.apk
GoogleCalendarSyncAdapter.apk
GoogleContactsSyncAdapter.apk
GooglePartnerSetup.apk
GoogleServicesFramework.apk
MediaUploader.apk
SetupWizard.apk
Talk.apk
Vending.apk
After I installed all the applications, I still had some trouble initializing my Google account. I would type in my information, but it would take forever and then inform me that I didn't have an internet connection. I discovered that this had been a problem for some previous users with different devices. The workaround was to initialize your account through Google's YouTube app, which you will have to install along with the other *.apk files. I'm curious to see if anybody else has this problem. I'm fairly certain I had these issues because I was messing around with various gmail installations before I arrived at this solution. (Also, I'm wondering if installing "OneTimeInitializer.apk" might also help).
Good luck. I'm fairly confident about eventually getting the Market to work. Also, I'm glad to finally have Launcher Pro and Swiftkey installed instead of the default options.
Thanks for all the useful info!
I tried installing via the CyanogenMod gapps pack like you said and I currently have functioning Gmail, calendar sync, contacts sync, Reader & Maps (though of course you can't really get a location; good for looking up directions anyway). You don't have to install a new calendar app to get your Google calendar to sync. That comes with the calendar sync apk. You might lose the e-ink functionality of the current app if you tried to replace it with the standard Google Calendar app.
Install Gmail last. I had problems with Gmail force closing until I installed it after installing all the other supporting gapps.
I had the same problem logging into my Google account via Gmail, but the YouTube workaround was also successful for me. I got a weird error when I fired up Gmail after logging into my account. It said the account was not set up to sync. I unchecked and then rechecked the various elements in Settings > Accounts & Sync and that fixed my issue.

I've also rooted the Edge (with Z4root, seems simplest and works fine) and so far I've been stymied at almost every step. I'm noticing about half the apps in Amazon's App store don't install. I also pulled the .apk's for Quadrant and SetCPU, neither of them work however.
I think doing anything past installing some Google apps is going to necessitate a custom ROM, but there's not really any development happening for this thing and I certainly lack the programming skillz needed to do so.

If you're asking how to get Android 2.2.1, go to the entourage edge site, head to the forums, and use the partial link below to see the thread:

After rooting (thanks for posting that!), I can't seem to move any apps to the SD card.
I'm looking forward to installing the GAPPS, thanks for the how-tos.

Market Apps Incompatible??

I never came across this issue with my G2, but during google's 10 cent sale I bought a few games (asphalt 6 was the main one I wanted) and when I first got my sensation it came preloaded with N.O.V.A 2
Since rooting my phone neither one of those is now available, they don't show up in the market and when I tried to push the apk file it still doesn't work. When I check the market on my desktop it says my phone is incompatible. I have tried multiple roms, thinking it may have been a sense 3.5 issue, but it happens on 3.0 roms as well.
Have any of you run into this issue? Why does this happen, and how can I fix it?

I can't comment on before or after rooting my phone because I did it straight away, but I can't 'see' either of those games in the Market. I also can't buy Shadowgun. Apart from those people running pirated copies, there are clearly also people who can buy and download these games. I just don't get it. At first I thought people must be using Chainfire's Tegra app, but I don't think it's just that. I guess it should be possible to change something on the build.prop but I can't work out exactly what the key difference is.
After I posted I found this:
http://www.redmondpie.com/how-to-in...-from-android-market-for-unsupported-devices/
I haven't tried it yet but I'll post back when I do. Nova 2 worked just fine on my phone before I rooted it, and I bought asphalt6 with my phone (again, before I rooted and installed new roms) I'm assuming not everybody has these problems, so I'd love to know why some of us have issues and others don't?
Thanks for the link. I'm debating whether or not to flash a stock ROM first to see what happens.
Also, the other factor that clouds the issue is that developers can remove devices from their compatibility list in the Market as and when they choose. For example, looking on their forum, this appears to be the case with the Sensation and Madfinger's Shadowgun.
So from what I'm learning I need the original buildprop from the stock sensation in order to make this work. I tried the directions from the link I posted and clearly changed something because I got an email welcoming me to the nexus s, but my market still tells me asphalt 6 is not available for my sensation.
Here's to add to the link posted.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=20048765&postcount=5
Thanks, I'll try those edits and see what happens.
Purely for info. Flashing back to a stock ROM (1.50.401.1) didn't work for me, though I was still S-off, just in case that matters in some way that I don't realise.
Tried altering my build.prop as per the OP's link but it didn't work for me. Haven't tried kpjimmy's link yet.
I'd still like to find out for sure if anyone can buy these games without an altered build.prop, and if so, why? (excluding anyone who's using chainfire's app...)
So after spending an hour trying things out my phone's nearly dead and I'm at work so I won't be able to recharge it until I get in the car, but as I type it's downloading asphalt 6. It also thinks it's a Nexus S as it asked me if I wanted to update to IceCream sandwich. A little scary as I'm assuming that would brick my phone. Anyhow, here's what I've done so far:
Clear Market Cache & Data. Settings > Applications > All > Market > Clear data.
Launch ES File Explorer. Enable both Root Explorer and Mount File System under Settings > Root Settings.
Navigate to /system. Here you will find the build.prop file. Take a backup of it by copy-pasting it to your SD card.
Open & edit /system/build.prop
Change the following lines to make your phone identify as a GSM Nexus S:
ro.product.model=Nexus S
ro.product.brand=Google
ro.product.name=sodu
ro.product.device=crespo
ro.product.manufacturer=samsung
ro.build.fingerprint=google/soju/crespo:2.3.4/GRJ22/121341:user/release-keys
ro.build.description=soju-user 2.3.4 GRJ22 121341 release-keys
Save file and remember to change the chmod type button back to read only in the system folder
Reboot the phone
My build prop had 2 entries for build description and I edited both of them. I'm going to try to get NOVA 2 as well, I'll post back after I try playing both of them. I just don't understand why it was so flipping difficult to get these?
And why don't all rooted/rom'ed sensations have this issue?
My last 2 questions I might find on my own, but maybe somebody has an answer so I don't have to experiment. If I wipe/reset and reinstall my current rom, will that rebuild the build.prop file back to original?
AND....if I do get both these games working and use Titanium to back them up, will I be able to reinstall them without re-editing the buildprop file again?
More to come, stay tuned...

Shadow Gun was available to us on the market until very recently.
Madfingers found out that there were driver issues that they couldn't fix... or something like that, so they pull it for the Senny for now.
there is a sticky on their forum regarding it.
far as Asphalt 6, log onto Gameloft's site via your phone(user agent set to Android) and you can purchase it directly from the site.
That still doesn't answer the question of why isn't the Market working correctly?
I'm assuming u have a US sensation? My thinking is if you flashed a Rom that is based on the euro sensation then maybe the market identifies the phone as a euro sensation and blocks certain apps that aren't available in Europe....maybe?
Sent from my HTC Sensation Z710e using xda premium
I started with a US updated to the latest release. I rooted it and tried in this order (or close to it):
Android Rev. 4.1
Energy
Elegancia
TMXSS (maff1989's rom)
I had forgotten about asphalt and nova until I was on Elegancia, but on the TMX rom, which is a stock us version basically, it didn't work. I really don't understand the inner workings of android, I'm not even close to a developer level, so if this might be a stupid question...does the buildprop file change with each rom? Basically if I reflash the rom I'm using now it'll rebuild the buildprop?
Yes, build prop changes with each ROM
Ouzo,
this doesn't answer the original question, but it's looking like going directly to Gameloft's website worked for me, at least with Nova 2. The problem though is even though I paid for it once through market the Gameloft site doesn't recognize that, so if I want either game I am going to need to either pay twice or request a refund from google.
Good news that you can download NOVA via Gameloft's website, though to be honest I'm not going to do that because I don't want to create a second account to access their games. I didn't like the idea of giving them my mobile number - knowing my luck I'd end up getting a load of marketing calls from all over ; )
I'm also just feeling stubborn about this. There must be people on here who know. Hopefully they'll read this thread and enlighten us. I'm going to carry on experimenting with other ROMs and see if any unlock the reason why.... Wonder if Sensation XE owners/ROM users can see NOVA etc in the market?

[Q] Managing Running Programs

Hello. I am sorry if this is a noob post and I appolagise in advance but ive been at this for a while so I figured whether or not I missed something I might as well ask.
I recently installed the custom ROM ice cream sandwich by seanzscreams (Its awesome i love it). The one problem I have with it is quite small but is really bugging me. The old factory widget that let me manage running programs (it had a little bar and told me how much cpu i was using) is gone. I searched for quite some time for an alternative widget, and when I couldn't find one I tried to see if it still existed in settings. while I did find the task manager that listed running programs it failed to list my running applications, which I tested. After this I went and found a factory package and ripped the .apk file for the widget out of it and tried to instal it on my phone. Which failed outright, although it was the closest I got to succeeding.
So my question is
is there a way to get that widget back so I can use it
is there a widget that does the exact same thing
did I miss something completely in settings. All I want to know how to do is close running applications. It used to list only the running applications it was very quite convenient.
is there any other possible way of achieving this at all.
The widgets filename is called: SamsungWidget_ProgramMonitor.apk
I dont think im looking for a task manager. I dont think thats what it is. Not sure though correct me if im wrong.
Do nandroid first and flash it if you use touchwiz.
Here try flashing this here.

[Q] HTC Keyboard on CM7

Simple enough. After a long time of searching here and elsewhere, I have found no way to install the official HTC_IME keyboard on a ROM that doesn't already have it. Any attempts to do so just cause a Force Close upon trying to interact with it in any way.
And do not bother saying "just try _____ instead". If I wanted to try a different keyboard, I wouldn't be posting this thread.
I have a logcat that says "Unable to instantiate activity ComponentInfo", which I read is a problem with activities not being defined in AndroidManifest.xml. But unfortunately, the AndroidManifest.xml that comes with HTC_IME is junk. Trying to open it in any program either shows you what looks like non-western encoding, or it won't open it at all.
If anybody has any insight, that would be delightful. Either something I could try to make it work, or providing the logcat that shows all the errors that popped up, or something. Anything to finally get the Sense 3.5/3.6 HTC_IME working on our phones.
If nobody has any idea about this, does anybody at least know how I might go about figuring out any aspects of this problem besides the shot-in-the-dark Googling I've been doing trying to figure this out?
Just in case, I have attached the aLogcat file that I saved, filtered by the app to just show errors (which in this case, is only the errors generated by trying to access the keyboard via the Settings menu). If desired, I can generate and attach one for when you try to actually activate the keyboard via the Input Method operation.
I took the HTC IME apk from the HD revolution rom (system/apps) and pushed it onto my sensation's Virtuous Inquisition and I got it working except for the swype part.
I tried that. But unfortunately, CM7 is definitely missing libraries and/or other files needed by the apk file. Virtuous would be likely to have them because it's built from a Sense ROM, as opposed to CM7 most definitely *not* being built from anything but pure Android.
Someone had thought they found all the files needed to use the keyboard, but trying that did nothing for me, which means either more files are needed, or maybe something has to be done with the very messy and nearly uneditable AndroidManifest.xml file. But it seems that nobody on the forums has any idea. I had rather hoped that a developer might at least know, but of course I appreciate any input.
Would this work?
I'm not sure, but I'm certainly going to download it and give it a shot. Whether it works or not, thanks for the heads up. You've reminded me that I should also look around the forums of other qHD HTC phones in case somebody has figured something out in one of those.
Edit: Bah, of course the download link doesn't work. Every time I try, ESET kicks in and complains. Even when I shut it off. And once I finally got ESET to shut up, IE just refused to download the file anyway.
nvm i signed up for swype beta lol.
