[Q] Exchnage Email - Inspire HD not supported - HTC Inspire 4G

Hello All,
I've just moved over from an iPhone, and I'm loving this Inspire HD. I've rooted and am currently running CM7 stable.
One big problem for me, it appears this particular android phone is not "supported" by my work for exchange access. I could be way off, but I'm guessing that if they support a lot of android phones and the iPhone, there must be a way to make my phone connect properly.
I tried the trial of touchdown, and it didn't work either.
I'd love a way to make the stock email app work with Exchange. I'm fine with any pin requirements as well.
I've googled my heart out, but can't find a solution.
Any help appreciated!

This might be what you're looking for..

Thanks! That looks like it might do it. I'll update once I find out.

No luck, getting "This server requires security features your phone does not support."
Per my IT department, we only support the following:
Sprint Evo, Verizon Incredible, Droid X, Droid 2, Droid Pro, AT&T Aria device and Atrix 4G device.
Am I actually missing a feature that these phones have?

They probably have exchange set to reject any other reported build. It is an option in ActiveSync(server side).

Samsung Omnia or HTC Droid Eris???

I currently have a Samsung Omnia with Verizon Wireless service. It seems to work fairly well now that I'm using SPB Mobile Shell and few other cool utilities. However, the reviews I've read say that there's a good chance it's gonna start glitching on me and I'm gonna hate it in a few months.
I just got an e-mail from Best Buy about a $50 discount on the HTC Droid Eris. I had already been considering switching to Android because it's where things are heading, and there are more apps available out of the box. The chief complaint I hear about Droid Eris is the battery life being awful and the fact that you can't install apps on your storage card, which quickly fills up your system memory.
I'm wondering if anyone else has an opinion on the matter. Is Android gonna be better in the long run or should I just stick it out for 2 years and hope for good WinMo updates? Is the Eris simply better hardware than the Omnia? Any thoughts?
Thanks.
Welcome to forums
We are a dedicated HTC forum only, so go for Eris if you want to have the great support from this site
Go with HTC & XDA combined for customizing & support.
+1 Droid Eris!
I had Omnia for a year..ran all sorts of custom roms...lvoedit..but then it finally started getting slower and slower compared to other phones...
today i got my droid eris.....

SWEET!!!!! ahhah..this thing has tons of customization ability..as soon as people start messing with it...it'll be a hit...super fast...super sensitive...
did i mention android??? [2.0 update comes out early 2010...cant wait!] only thing better than droid eris for verizon customers is droid.. [its bigger & faster, but heavier]
Eris Droid has no bluetooth dialing capabilities
I will be returning the Eris Droid that I bought today. After trying for some time to get the bluetooth voice dialer to work, I googled it and found that THOUSANDS of disgruntled Eris buyers discovered that there is no capability for it and say they will return it to the Verizon store. The instructions say that you can MAKE and receive calls via the Bluetooth headset. The only way you can do that is with voice dialing. Every cheap cell phone and smartphone I've had for 6 years has had that capability. In a world where using a cell phone while driving is unlawful in many states, this is NOT a trivial feature. This was either an engineering fiasco or a marketing scheme whereby Google and Verizon and Motorola can make more money when they introduce the upgraded BLUETOOTH VOICE DIALER enhanced droid.

Big question, which one?

So what's a better buy, since I am confused and conflicted as to what to get.
Motorola Milestone or Nexus One/Desire?
I actually have no clue, its confusing to think which one and every time I think I decide I go back to the middle.
And I know that for the Nexus One, this website has one strong modding front behind it, but I have no idea where, if any, modding movement exists for the Droid, since I haven't found anything on this forum.
What are your thoughts on it?

I personally have the N1 and also have T-mobiles "droids" aka cliqs... Htc is far better when it comes to hardware. I suggest the N1!
In my experience - if I want to get google/android updates ASAP I would only go with whatever google choses to sleep with (stock i.e. without any skin)
For GSM that would be the Nexus One.

Aha no Droid love? Is there a site dedicated to Droid mods like this has a section for Nexus development as well?

nope, moto is lacking in the game... plus nexus isnt a branded phone... its a HTC/GOOGLE not a T-mobile/AT&T/Sprint/V-word phone that should be enough to go by in your choice...
I'm also kind of in a boat like this one. I have a G1 and desperately want to upgrade. I'm considering the EVO since Austin has a 4G tower here. The prices and plans are attractive too. The one thing holding me back however is the hotspot feature in froyo. Sprint will almost certainly cut this feature out of the froyo update for the EVO since they want to charge 30 bucks a month to use that. I'm wondering if there will be a version of froyo from cyanogen (or the many other developers out there) for the evo to circumvent this (not to mention to get rid of the Sense UI).
This isn't any easier a decision to make now aha.
I vote for Motorola milestone
considering its hardware keyboard
I have a Milestone and the hardware keyboard is useful, but I don't like the way Motorola have locked down the bootloader.
That means that even when rooted, we are limited in what can be hacked about!
I will be getting rid of the Milestone and getting a Desire soon if that tells you anything.

I see what you mean, well I've put in a few offers to some used N1s, my local shop stopped carrying them!!!
If you do not have any need for a hardware keyboard N1 will be better beause of the faster CPU.
If you like hardware keyboards like me you will forget about N1.
There are quite a few forums with support for the Droid/ Milestone.
Depends on the kind of work you want to do. If all you want is a shiny super modded device with great screen contrast (excluding touchscreen response) and speed and early updates, get Nexus One.
If you need to do a lot of typing and/or need better screen response, get Milestone.
While milestone doesn't have a dedicated community behind it, doing lots of rom porting, most of the useful N1 mods work on it. Also, it is a very solid and well built phone. The build quality compared to nexus one is equally good, if not better. You can also get it overclocked to about 1.2GHz which makes it run superfast, if you are worried about speed.

Which phones have 'out-of-the-box' Wifi Tethering Support

Hi all,
A colleague of mine is looking for a phone supporting Wifi Tethering.
Since he is quite a noob, i would prefer to suggest to him only to get a phone that supports this out-of-the-box.
I do not want him to need to install custom roms/rooting etc. (since that would mean i would be solving his issues)
The Samsung Galaxy S is one i know that has this, which others are there. (to be bought in the Netherlands)
All phones with Android 2.2 have this feature.
Here in Italy we have a Vodafone-branded Huwaei Ideos that cost 99 euros and has Android 2.2 and tethering
HTC HD2
for the phones that don't have this feature built in they can always either root their device for it or download Easy Tether Lite (free & no root needed)
Don't all phones with Froyo have built in tethering?
Yes but some providers take it out so they can charge for it or limit bandwidth usages
excuse me while I get my ten posts in

ah I just finished doing that 5 minutes ago
now that I've posted my new rom in the dev. section I feel more at ease
also this new post is a nice way to test my sig
I know it's been a while, but for anybody else looking for an answer... I have been using my SGS (as mentioned in the original post) perfectly fine with wifi tethering to it gets my vote. If your friend gets an older phone with out of date firmware, they won't even have to upgrade as SGS offered the feature back on 2.1 as well.
I see it's not just me stuck on the 10 posts either
I dont know if all 2.2 devices have it without rooting. I know the droid 2 and X both have it.
The T-mobile Comet (Huawei Ideos) is advertised as have it out-of-the-box. I get mine in a couple days, so I'll verify when I can.
G2, which has 2.2 Froyo . I had to wait till the actual upgrade...I believe it is called an OTA?
Not sure, but I got an upgrade over the phone and updated and Can Wifi Call and Tether.

Wifi tether outta the box
MY Touch 4g outta the box thether
hd2, g2, mytouch 4g, nexus one and s basically any of the newer phones have it

[Q] Slightly OT, which cellphone do you use?

So I chose the G Tablet in large part due to the community. My Verizon phone contract is about to end in 2 months and I'm looking at an Android phone (of course). Looking for tethering most importantly for my gtab but I guess I might find that Verizon has locked down the devices too much. I'm open to custom ROMs assuming they are as polished as the ones we have here. Anyone have suggestions?
I've got an EVO and have been quite happy with it. Large modding community, multiple good and polished roms with very active devs, both AOSP and Sense. WifiTether comes with most of the custom ROMS and is free, and speeds are actually pretty good if you happen to be in a 4G area. Phone is good, though battery life is a bit poor (but then again, most Android phones are that way).
All in all I'm pretty pleased with it, though there are plenty of good options out there.
Thanks, I'll have to look into as many as I can. I have a Blackberry now and have done diddly squat for customization of it. Originally planned to flex my development skills a bit but just never got around to it.
Sprint HTC Hero rooted w/ Froyo.
Lg Optimus S (Rooted w/ froyo)
Nexus One on AT&T.
Have been tethering my gtablet since the day I took it home.
Att Samsung captivate great phone except for lousy GPS Samsung should stick to tvs... rooted 2.2
I'm Tethering using Samsung Fascinate. Sucks cuz of no 2.2, still 2.1. In 2 Months many Good Phones will be out So you could try those but Ive had This phone and Droid Incredible for Verizon and both tether fine. Just need Root.
Im using the good ol Droid Eris that is rooted.
I'm Rocking a Droid (Original) with Cyanogen as of now... a few weeks ago it was another flavor.. I love the android phone dev. scene.. Changing Mods is like changing socks.. ;-)
Looking forward to the HTC Thunderbolt Upgrade in FEB
Stuck on the Moment with 2.1. Rooted, customized kernel with Froyo-like JIT enhancements, wifi tethering, and other good stuff. It's reasonable, but so far, no one has made much progress with getting true 2.2 working on it. They released the source for two phones (Acclaim and Intercept) that are very similar to the Moment, but the only community that develops for the phone (SDX) hasn't gotten anything working. It's beyond my skill level, sadly, or I'd try my hand at it.
I'm able to change my phone in April, so I'll probably see what options are available then or coming shortly thereafter.
The droid 2 is a nice phone when it is rooted and you can use it as a mobile hotspot for free if it is rooted, although the droid bionic looks very promissing when it comes out and it has the same tegra 2 processor as the gtablet but it an actually fit in a pocket.
Nexus One running stock 2.2 on t-Mobile with the famous grandfathered 6.99 data plan. Tethering works great. But I've been having issues with the power button not working, so I might finally root it when the warranty runs out so I can assign the power button to the trackball or something.

+1 It was simple to tether a connection between the two (2) devices and it works well.
Google Nexus One on Bell Mobility (i'm a canuckia resident), modded as per my sig. Bestest phone I ever had. I'm planning on getting a Tegra2-based or a Nexus S as soon as those hit Vidéotron in Quebec though.

Upgradeing too a new phone but not sure what

Hello I have a pantech crossover but I'm thinking about upgradeing but idk...
Don't get me wrong this is a wonderful phone to me it lacks in three areas the screen could be better the processor is only 600Mhz but its still fast with apps. And that its older its got froyo OS but anyways need a new one any sugesstions?
get the SGS2
great device!
How much can you spend?
Preferably has a qwerty keyboard?
Like big-screen 4.3'' or 3.7'' normal?
More details can be more specific for your needs.
How much do you want to spend? Want to get it on a monthly or buy it outright?
I see you're on AT&T, I'm not sure exactly what phones they have but the one thing I can give advice for is to not get anything gimmicky. I got the Evo 3D, which is a great phone all around... except for the camera. I can only view the 3D pictures on my phone, and 2D pictures don't look very good because instead of one good camera, it has two cheap ones. Definitely would have rethought my decision last summer when I got the thing.
There are a few things you have to consider
Do you want....
-A new AT&T device (contract)
-A new international device
-A used for a great deal device

true, you need to consider the payment options for but I think you need to be more open as in, what do you use your mobile phone for? some use mobile phones just for calling and texting and if thats the case then you might not want to go for something advanced.
My advice would be to wait. Phones like the Galaxy S III will blow the current phones out of the water. However, if you need a phone now, I'd recommend the Galaxy Note, Galaxy S II, or the Nexus (you'll have to get it unlocked).
The new htc one series is starting to roll out and they are getting some good reviews, as well as the the sony experia s.
I can't decide between the HTC One S andthe Sony Experia S.
Oddly it all comes down to whether I can sync all my google calendars. When I last saw sense (running on Runnymede AIO V6.0.4.3 Special Edition), you couldn't do this. Does anyone know if you can?

Desire I take it?
I could do this stock sense 1.9, and my main daily driver ROM, a sense 2.1 /3.0 hybrid. I have tested / played lots with the runny aio, just not good enough to be my daily driver but I can't recal if I tested multiple google calendar synch on it or not.
Are you sure your not just missing a setting somewhere?
Edit: I can confirm from memory the runny aio did support multiple exchange accounts (one work, one union) (because I wanted to try out the stock sense email app with it), with fully syncing both exchange calendars, so I don't see why it wouldn't support multiple google accounts as well.
To be clear, my two google accounts are one personal, one sport (executive and Coaching) and yes, both calendars sync nicely on Sense 1.9, and 2.1
