[Q] No Tethering for my Transformer ?? - Eee Pad Transformer Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have a rooted (XTRSense 5.01) Droid Eris running Wireless Tether 2.0.2 and Wired Tether for Root Users 1.2. It also has bluetooth. All three work well as tethers to my aging Dell laptop. I recently bought an Asus Transformer (TF) and keyboard dock, in part to replace that laptop when traveling. To my dismay, I have not yet been able to get any Internet access for my TF through my Eris.
Wireless WiFi Tether:
The Eris is apparently only capable of creating an adhoc network. Honeycomb will not recognize adhoc networks. The only workaround is rooting the TF, and that is not something that I want to do anytime soon.
Wireless Bluetooth Tether:
This should work in theory, but bluetooth tethering isn't working for me. I can pair the Eris to the TF, and the tethering app on the Eris seems capable, but the TF wrench for the paired Eris only gives me two choices: "rename" and "unpair". Not very helpful!
USB Tethering:
Last night, I hooked up my new TF keyboard dock, updated the firmware, and then tried USB tethering to my Eris. The TF sees the Eris SD card as a disk drive and I can explore it with the TF File Manager. For example, I can now play my Eris ringtones on my TF (sarcasm intended). However, when I click to start the USB tethering app on my Eris, nothing happens. The TF continues to report no Internet access.
I love my new TF, but I will love it less if I have to start buying hotel WiFi. I have run out of ideas on what to try next. Any thoughts?

Have you tried rebooting or a hard reset. That worked for me. Both wifi and bluetooth work with iphone's Mywi app.
Check out the other tethering thread here that has specific steps you need to follow to enable it.

I know you said you don't want to root your TF, but surely this is the easiest solution?

Dave

Oh, also remember from there that if your app on your phone is only capable of ad hoc, looks like you'll have to root.

You could install ClockWorkMod and then unroot again. You'll then be able to use this method to tether your phone.

i just wrote a step by step on how to tether(bluetooth) to transformer

seems to me the OP needs to read the "for advance users" notes on my post

[Q] Tethering

This question has probably been asked a million times but i couldn't find an answer.
On my HTC Hero (android 2.1), there was an option to tether once you plugged the phone into your computer. This could also be used as a wireless receiver for a desktop computer lacking a wireless access card. I was using this as a last resort after losing dozens of Ethernet cables to vermin under the house. Basically the idea was: connect to your homes wireless router on the phone, then plug the phone into the usb slot of your computer and it would share that wifi connection with your computer. Recently I have switched over to the all powerful HTC HD2 and I am realizing there is no way to do this, that I can tell, with the stock phone. Is there something I'm missing?
I have tried using the Internet Sharing option, as well as the CMInternetSharing.cab I downloaded from you guys, and neither seem to bring this ability to the table. Is there an app out there that can solve this problem?
Ussually a Custom rom will fix this most have the Internet share or WiFi router but you need to HARDSPL your phone. also theres a way for you to do it just deleting your or editing your REGISTRY.
---------------------
Here is the Thread for the roms for your phone
http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=534
and this is the rom I Recomend
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=591784
use the Cookie GTX (white theme)
Follow the intructions on how to install it(rom) also onces done click on your Window button>tools>WiFi Router and you can use your phone as a wireless router also if you connected your phone Via usb to your conputer you can connect using internet sharing.
fixed the problem
WMWifiRouter has a wifi to usb mode.
will definitely be buying it after my trial runs out.

[Q] USB Tether on Tiamat (Manta Ray with Tachi kernel)

Has anyone been able to get USB tethering to work on Tiamat Manta Ray with the Tachi kernel? If you have can you please share with me the steps you took to get it working?
Thanks
I use USB OTG watcher - there is a thread somewhere here about it but it is available from the market. It doesn't work for me if USB debug mode is on. (i.e. settings>applications>development>"USB debugging" unchecked.
USB OTG watcher lets you mount the external drive and you can then browse to it using a file manager such as ES File Explorer.
Hope this helps.
Thanks I will give it a try with USB debugging turned off. I am not sure if the USB OTG watcher will be able to help though since I am trying to connect a USB wireless dongle to my Xoom and not a flash drive. I know some people have been able to get USB tethering to work with their Android phones so I am hoping I can get it to work with my dongle.
Sorry - didn't read your question properly! I haven't tried tethering in the way you meant.
Sent from my MZ601 using XDA App
Can someone confirm the correct script to run to enable USB tethering under this kernel? I am using Scripter (included in Manta Ray) and have entered the following...
dhcpcd usb1
setprop net.dns1 8.8.8.8
When I run the script it gives me an error that interface USB1 could not be found or is invalid.
Thanks
Huckfin,
Following my mistaken response to you yesterday I tried tethering my Xoom to my laptop today. I attached the USB cable, checked my xoom was connected, and then went into Xoom settings>wireless and networking and and activated USB tethering. It worked straight off and I was able to browse etc on my laptop through my Xoom without any issues. I also checked to ensure all other networking was either off (wifi) or disconnected (network cable.)
I am on a UK 3g MZ601 Xoom with Tiamat 2.1 Hammerhead.
I'm not sure it helps solve your problem except that tethering, in my case, does seem to work without any issues.
My laptop is running Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit.
Regards,
Sorry I am trying to USB tether in the opposite direction. You are sharing the connection from your Xoom to your PC. I have a WiFi only Xoom, so I am trying to tether my Xoom from either my cell phone or ideally a USB 4G dongle to my Xoom.
Does anyone use the USB tethering option on Tiamat's kernel?

Yes, it works for me using the script shown earlier in this thread. Could it be that you don't have the correct OTG cable? I purchased mine on ebay for a couple of bucks.
Note that I had problems tethering with Manta Ray, but stepping back to Hammerhead works just fine.
Thank you for your response, I was starting to think no one used this feature. I am slightly confused though. You said you stepped back to Hammerhead from Manta Ray. I thought Hammerhead is the newer ROM with the Tachometer kernel built in.
So just to make sure you are able to tether with Hammerhead and you had problems tethering with Manta Ray? I see a few people having issues with Hammerhead so I have been holding off for an update, plus having to wipe to update makes me a little hesitant.

[Q] Trying to tether Motorola Droid 1 to PS3. Problems abound!

Okay, first off a disclaimer, I know there are many posts about something EXACTLY what I'm trying to do. I've used the search tool, and I've googled the hell out of it. Even asked around, but I just eventually stopped receiving posts. It may very well be a windows problem rather than anything I'M doing.
What I got: Windows 7. A router. Motorola Droid 1. EasyTether App (The paid license, so I can go to secured sites). A PS3. Several ethernet cables (No crossover however).
What I've done: 1) Connected ethernet between PS3-PC and enabled ICS.
2) Connected between PS3-PC and tried bridging Tether and PS3-PC connection.
3) Connecting PC ethernet to router (Uplink port) and then PS3 to router and enabling ICS then Bridging once that failed.
4) Rooting phone and installing a WifiTether app (Later to find out PS3 can't do adhoc).
I'm at a complete loss for what to do next. I see a lot of people having NO problem with it. Is it because I have yet to see anyone attempting it with the Droid 1? Please help! If you need anymore information, I will provide!

[Q] Bluetooth Tether On Official ICS

I've been waiting and waiting for ICS to come out, so that I can use bluetooth tethering to my PC at work, like I do with my wifi-only Xoom. Unfortunately, this seems to be disabled. Can someone please confirm this and let me know if there is a way to enable it? I've seen the thread about enabling it on the 4.0.4 leak with the SQLLite hack, but I'm not sure this would work with the new ICS.
Thanks!
Though I have another Bluetooth issue (mentioning it here cause it also lists a driver issue in computer which is a common issue) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1931540
I have mentioned therein I was successfully able to establish BT tether (will probably post a screenshot later) but If I recall, I had to right click the device (our phone listed under "Printers & Devices" on Win 7) & then click connect & only then the tether went thru successfully and until then it did not. I hope it makes sense to you. BT Tether is very much part of ICS 4.0.4 stock OTA upgrade (can't say about custom ROM's)

My son always tethered to my Atrix 2 with his ipod touch and he also can no longer connect since I updated to stock ICS. I'm rooted and using SQLite Editor, but I see nothing in the settings.db that remotely looks like enabling bluetooth PAN (tethering). Anyone else have a fix?
Can't bluetooth tether anymore
I used to connect my android tablet to my atrix 2 over bluetooth with GB on the atrix 2 and have internet on the tablet. Now with ICS on the atrix 2, I no longer have the internet profile listed under bluetooth when connecting to it from the tablet, and I cannot get internet to my tablet.
It appears that downgrading my OTA ICS is not an option (but I'm still searching), so am I hoping that I can enable this bluetooth ability again. Has anyone found a way to do this?
I am having a similar issue, I just got a nexus 7 and was hoping to bluetooth tether my A2 to it. I don't use bluetooth really at all, but I wanted to use it for this. When I first tried to set it up I could pair my A2 to my N7 but it wouldn't connect. I tried connecting my A2 to my laptop, same thing, it would pair but not connect. However, I could pair, connect, and transfer files between my N7 and my laptop.
I cleared data from bluetooth share and rebooted, no luck.
I cleared data from bluetooth dun and rebooted. At this point I could pair, connect and transfer files with my A2 and laptop, but still couldn't connect with N7.
I downloaded bluetooth file transfer from the market. It said that I could only transfer files to the other device not from it (same thing whether I did it from the A2 or N7). It said that I connected, but when I tried to transfer a file I would get an error.
I downloaded foxfi and pdanet table from the market, couldn't connect or tether with this either.
I did a factory reset, still laptop worked, N7 didn't.
When I go into the bluetooth setting on my A2 or my N7 the only options I have for either are to change name, or unpair.
After each troubleshooting step, I tried to see if my N7 was able to access my A2's data, but it never could.
I have searched extensively and have been unable to find an answer or a solution.
Essentially, I want to tether my A2 to my N7 with bluetooth, They will pair witheachother but they will not connect. Help?

[Q] Tether a rooted TF700 to a rooted Android phone via USB

Hi,
I have a rooted TF700 and a rooted Nexus S both running CM10.1. Is it possible to connect a USB cable from the dock of the Infinity to the Nexus S and use its network connection? If I plug a cable in then the USB tethering option in Settings is greyed out.
I imagine this would involve the use of a different kernel - I'm willing to try and make my own if I need to and someone can point out what config option needs to be compiled in.

If you do it, add the ability for two android devices to be connected together, one as host and the other as attached media device or attached storage so they can exchange files.
Regarding internet sharing, I do this now with my tab and my phone but over wifi. I just toggle my phones wifi hotspot (or you can tether for free with PDANet and FoxFi; depends on carrier - on Verizon fails to be able to download market apps so was dysfunctional for me) and connect the tabs wifi to the phones wifi shared internet (definition of a wifi hotspot). Waaaay better, no wires. And works on stock or unlocked/rooted/ROMd.

This is already possible using the Prime/Infinity dock's USB port I believe. Using the micro USB port on the tablet itself would not be possible as it registers as a client not a host.

Yep, this already works fine using the built-in Android hotspot. My issue is that my phone's battery dies in a couple of hours doing this. I want to use USB because it would use much less power on both the phone and the tablet (and the phone would actually charge while plugged into the dock!).
Actually it seems to work already! I was being less than smart and had forgotten to turn on 'USB tether' on the phone. It's a pity there's no notification on the tablet to show it has an internet connection via USB though.
