Great! Hopefully we're gonna see r/w on /system too, soonish!
sorry this will sound stupid but what does these kernel sources allow devs to do?? I thought gaining root access was the most important thing in customizing stock roms..

+1, Love to see some of the marvellous nexus kernels ported to desire. And fully ported Enomther and Cyanogen rom.
Yeah full Cyanogen would be great too.
Can somebody provide a /proc/config.gz from a stock Desire?
Also, anybody want to try OC-UV on the Desire?

This is not from the stock desire rom. But all roms up to now use the default kernel, so here you go, I had to recompress it for upload purposes.

If my understanding is correct...this will allow custom ROMs with the Sense UI to be created and hopefully...fully functional.
Customized Sense ROM with 100% working bluetooth
this will be a busy week end for cooks!
I think the first thing on the agenda is to Port Peshoots OC Kernal with a fully functioning CM 5.07
Get to work guys))))))
JD
That means we will be able to get Android 2.2 Froyo when it will be available for Nexus One ?

Great news Bala. If you can add option to convert the system and data FS to ext4 it would be great. But then still we are lacking recovery for our phone. Very sad.

TAB:
1. 1.4Ghz OC
2. Gingerbread
3. Loads of Custom ROMS..
4. Loads of Customization.
S SL:
1. NO OC but UC possible.
2. old **** 2.2.1
3. Zero Custom Roms!! :O Can you believe that?
4. No Customization, need % in battery level
I guess i've done a big mistake by purchasing I9003 in a hurry in exchange of TAB. i cud have spent 3k extra and wud have got Galaxy S i9000

Think i have done the same. Should have gone for i9000. Now my only option is to sell this phone and purchase SGS2. But SGS2 is still not available in retail. waiting for one. Looks like moderators have abandoned this phone. No one is ready to develop a custom rom for i9003.

Notification shade

Is there a way to get the power controls added to the notification shade if using the stock GB OTA? I've looked and can't seem to find an App or mod specifically for that.
I've found threads about changing the colors and mostly it's people modding the pngs for it via the system?.apk file but I'm not sure how one would add tat, or if we could, say, take the system.apk from a rom that has it already such as Weapon g2x and just drop that on a Stock rooted OTA?
Any idea's or methods I'm just not aware of?
there's an app called "StatusBar+" in the market that has the ability to add power control widget buttons or w/e in the notification bar on non rooted phones....if thats what you're meaning?
StatusBar+ isn't working for the G2X... Any other ideas??

if that app doesnt work, then the only other way is flashing a custom rom! I think u should just root the phone if u havent already, its nearly impossible to brick the thing unless ur completely unfamiliar with it, but even then, its damn hard! There's a ton of awesome roms with the notification widgets
Yeah my phone is rooted. I'm currently using EB 2.3.3 1.07 which I believe is one of the most stable roms... I just wish there was a way to add that feature (power control bar to the notification bar) to this rom without having to flash a different rom or theme...

Could I just take the Systemui.apk file from one of the Weapon2.5 themes and replace my current Systemui.apk file?
I'm thinking it won't work because I'm on EB 2.3.3 1.07, there may be some other files missing from this rom that I might need??
you won't know until you try.
just make a nandroid b4 doing it.

EB already has that....settings --> Cyanogenmod settings -->Interface --> Notification Power Widget
from my themeing experience of weapon and vibrant roms I think its a combination of frameres and systemui. I could be wrong but if it was me id ask a dev who has it in their ROM already it could greatly ease the method to achieve the desired effect.

Well I will take your advice... I see you are the maker of the Precision theme for Weapons... It looks pretty sweet..
Will you be making this theme for Eagle Blood 2.3.3 (v1.07+)? Or better yet does this theme work with EB already?
FYI... It was your theme that I was going to try and use the systemui.apk file...
I have no idea if it will work on eb or not. Im currently working on a few things, but might be able to port it soon.

I believe he's talking about EaglesBlood 2.3.3, not 2.3.5.
The notification power widgets on gingerbread roms are in the SystemUI.apk. The problem is, unless you are really snuggly with linux, java, and the sdk, your chances of coding your own are weak.
However, if you have a rom available to you from the same android and phone versions, you have a good shot at getting it to work, as with weapons systemui on eb 2.3.3.

I have 1/3 lol. Well it's sad that this is the case. I know it is pretty hard to write apps but it seems some things should just be a given considering, Like why no app for this or even a built in option at this point? Oh Well, I'll figure something out for sure.. anyone wanna send me the systemui.apk from Weapon so I don't have to reinstall it again?

1st Do a search this has been disgussed
2nd Everyones opinion will be different
My personal advice is if you want very very stable go Prime
If you want in between speed stability and battery go Revolver
If you want speed and great battery and dont mind waiting for a few fixes Krakd is definantly an up and coming rom to watch

+1 on that Danzano
Wait for an ICS ROM. I think coming from a phone ROM, the biggest thing you'll notice is nothing...
Honeycomb is Honeycomb. There's no source. You just won't see the diversity in ROMs that you see on phones. The difference between a Sense ROM, and Cyanogen is night and day.
That said, I like Gnufabio's Revolover, because of the Revolver Parts app. Switching Kernels, themes, boot animations, apps from other tablets. Definitely the way to go IMO.
Best way to root? Dude, look in the Dev section.

If you're just getting it and its new, the only option would be razorclaw. If the serial number
starts with B70, B80 or B90xxxxx, razorclaw probably. If lower, you have more options. Lots of reading on the subject will tell you what you need to know. I use root toolkit v7.1 and its great. As for roms, depends on preferance.

Is there really that much difference between 4.1.2 and 4.4?

I'm using Stock 4.1.2 and except 5ghz wifi isn't working am pretty happy with it.
Do the later custom roms add enough performance enhancements to warrant the effort? For me the 'proper' dpi and tablet layout of stock is highly preferred so any other layout is really not desired.
Thanks.

84 views and not one reply......wow that would seem to suggest not a lot of difference.
Try it and see for yourself. +1 for sky high 4.1.2. It all depends what you want, I need hdmi out so Sammy Rom for me.
Good luck.

I realise I can try it but as posted in the original question there's no point trying it if there's not a lot of difference.....and at the moment there seems little, if any, beneficial difference.

Wow. I had good reasons to move away from the stock ROM back when I did it. But that was so long ago, I can't remember what they were specifically. I think a lot of people are in that same boat, which is why you aren't getting any responses here.
I would say that if you're happy with the stock ROM, then stick with it! The easiest upgrade you can do is to install an aftermarket launcher, like NovaLauncher or GoLauncher. You'll get a ton of features that will allow you to customize your home screen layout without having to mess with rooting and flashing ROMs and recoveries.
